Ghark Ironskin & the Ironskin Tribe!!!!

original thread ↗

The large tribe is now nearing the 4,500 point benchmark according to my Excel pointsheet, and boy is it starting to pack a punch. Having collected OK from their release, I'd like to think I've steadily honed my skills, however most of the time, it's just luck.

After taking my tribe in the direction of being lead by Belchfist Beastkiller (Limited Ed Ogre Bruiser model) for quite some time, I decided he and his fledgling force of noobs would join the greater horde of Ghark Ironskin.
Yes. Ambitious I hear you say.

Indeed it was. I currently have a FW Rhinox rider and the second is in the post. But the challenge was definitely what to do about Ghark himself. A suitable model was definitely necessary and i HATE the ridiculous incarnation in the Chapter Approved made from a juggernaut. Drawing Board time...

Days later I appeared with a sketch. Just a sketch, but it would be monumental.

After ploughing all the plastic animals available to buy from any child’s store I discovered exactly what I wanted under my nose on the Forge World site. A dainty thing called Chaos Spined Beast. What a fantastic possessed metallic beast to ride. I also had one happily sat in my cupboard. Joy.

We are talking easily 30-40 hours of modelling later (perfectionist) I arrived with a daemon engine with metallic spikes protruding from it’s hide and cables and gunpowder kegs powering it underneath. The rider is ALMOST totally sculpted. It’s greenstuff basically, the head, hands, shoulder guards and gut plate are from the bull sprue as far as I recall. Following the cool artwork on our rulebook cover – he has beast horns attached to his back that only add to his stature.

Now obviously this baby wasn’t going to not have a base…so off to the modelling shop for some thick plasticard…a bit of a twig and a hell of a lot of green stuffmaking a tree stump and a follower of Hashut (Chaos Dwarf for those who don’t know!) dragging a largely sculpted Gnoblar away towards the back as payment for the monstrous beast.

Now this is a beast to lead an army - worthy of the many, many Attacks and Wounds on his profile. It’s a good job I have 10 painted up leadbelchers ready to take up those Ironskin Core choices! (just for a laugh).

Comments appreciated as always.

Pics on in a couple of hours.

Hey. Pics as promised.

Apologies now for poor quality, and the fact that's it's undercoated black which takes away all the details in pics! Apologies! Will soon get pics of other units from the army up, the fully complete and the sprayed selection!

Here is a teaser pic for the forum, follow the links for the others!

These are all pics of him. Please take the time to view them all if you can. The last one is the underside of the possessed/iron rhinox, which has been totally resculpted myself and has the addition of inbuilt kegs pumping something out to power the beast! use your imagination! :

Thank you both! Model will be much clearer even with basecoats on everything! Hoping for that soon!

Incredibly busy at the moment with university auditions (performing arts course so monologues and songs to learn!) buuuuut I will get as much doen as possible to keep the blog interesting!

I recently was given a Warhammer Giant as a birthday present from my mate...stay tuned for Slavegiant mischief. This leaves my army of Ogres missing only one option - a scraplauncher.

I will sort out some pics of Bulls, Ironguts and Leadbelchers Units soon. And the Hunter should be at the same time too! I've a lot of painting to do!

Steff

P.s. Is there anyway I can show the pics on this post if they are over 100kbs? Or will photobucket have to suffice?

the spiny chaos beast is a favourtite model of mine - I've jsut finished work on having a gorger ride one - and I have another sat in my cupboard intending to try just the idea you mentioned here - take it metallic for a gnark mount :D

unfortunatly I can't see your pics at the moment - seem to be having some connection problems - so I'll edit this post later with further comment :)

I was born and bred in a briar patch!
The chaos dwarf with gnoblar slave is an excellent touch. I'm curious to see Ghark painted. It looks like a real beast!

With the picture of over 100kb, photobucket will probably be fine. I've uploaded pictures of 2mb.

Still incredibly busy because of everything and so not a minute of painting or modelling has been done and much sleep is still required...but here are pics of my first unit of leadbelchers (both are units of five because I have ten models + it gives me the most options)
This is just one, follow the links for the others.

Ok, here is the second leadbelcher unit.
*LB's have been pictured first because in an Ironskin army i can use them as Core!

This unit was about 4 months later on than the previous, and took a heck of a lot of patience to paint all the gnoblars on it...count them! that's a modelling mistake I won't make again!

Again this fellow is an example follow the other links for more pics of the unit.

Painting has commenced on the big bad Ghark Ironskin, and I have ventured into the realm of foundation paints! Adeptus battlegrey has proven very useful for this project and fair enough, it has coated a hell of a lot more than a normal paint would! Any comments on foundation paints? Do they mix with the regulars?

Also his base is flocked up, gnoblar finished and tree stump also nearly finished, water effects has been added to make the river bed. it's looking good!

I've got a game with him tommorrow - DON'T criticize it, (I normally am happy with criticism!) but this list was designed for ridiculous fun, not winning power!

1,500 pts including a Lord (house rules)

Ghark Ironskin
Butcher
3 Bulls
5 Ironguts
5 Ironguts
3 Leadbelchers
1 Bull Rhinox Rider w. ironfist.

Used this list for a laugh 3 times before when i just want some fun, and it has absolutely demolished all three ermies it came up against! (Empire, Dark Elves & Dwarfs)

Anybody want work in progress pics of Ghark?...

Just finished a fantastic game of Warhammer that was part of a tournament I'm organizing and running.
Ogres vs Goblin Horde 2,000pts.
It was possibly the most fun i've had in a game ever!

My army list was as follows:
Bruiser
Butcher
Butcher
Butcher
3 Bulls
3 Bulls
3 Bulls
5 Ironguts
5 Ironguts
30 Gnoblar Fighters
8 Gnoblar Trappers
2 Leadbelchers
2 Leadbelchers
Gorger
Gorger

HIs list included a lord was on a giant cave squig, 3 level 2 wizards, several large units of goblins and night goblins (including many fanatics), two spear chukkas, a giant, 3 trolls, and there was a unit of squigs and herders...otherwise it was misc. goblins.

It was fantastic, trollguts proved incredibly useful once more, as did scouting trappers! taking out a spear chukka early on with their sharp stuff (shocking I know). Being horrifyingly frightened of running away from things as i'm not used to it, I shot the giant to pieces with one of the units of 2 leadbelchers...losing him 5 wounds!

Things looked up for me as the other unit rolled two 10's on the artillery dice to fire on the giant...but MIRACULOUSLY he retained his final wound!! The fanatics were released soon after and caused...not that much damage! Two fell miraculously short, one went straight through the Ironguts with the bruiser and Butcher and killed a single ogre and the others bounced around aimlessly. In the next turn 3 were shot down in their prime by my bruiser, then leadbelcher glory!

Things did not go well for the goblins from here, gorgers appeared behind their lines, and squabble took it's toll. One unit rolled a 6 on animosity, moving it 4" forwards...directly on top of a fanatic it had previously released, killing it and 5 of their number also! Some effective magic caused archers to flee, and panic was caused in the stupid trolls which luckily fled off the table! The goblins were finding it difficult to find the courage to charge in...because those that did, were subsequently mauled to pieces by some hungry ogres!

All in all, a total massacre to Belchfist's Brutes, the only goblin left on the table at the end of the game was a chariot which was effectively held up by a charging unit of bulls (how they survived i'll never know)
There'll be food for the boys tonight!

Congratulations on the win.

I'm really liking Ghark. Can't wait to see him finished.

I'm also a big fan of the leadbelcher "gnoblar bomb." If I ever need a 3rd belcher unit I'm going to steal the idea. Of course, sadly enough I'll probably never be needing a third unit of leadbelchers....
Fear tha Thinling Thumpers!!!
Thanks for your comment Thumper! Everybody needs a third leadbelcher unit ... :D

Unfortunately Ghark has been sidelined for a few days (maybe a week or so) due to ridiculous amount of work I have to do. Because any kind of coat of paint on such a large model takes so long, i can't fit in short pain sessions that help stress levels! On th eplus side, my Butcher model has had a second coat of pant on his skin, leaving only three to go, and finally has a strong red colour on his trousers! He's coming along nicely!

Also my brand spanking new slavegiant! He is built up and greenstuffed the gaps...with the wall section on a chain right arm and the bent left arm and am wondering about whether or not to add chains, convert him etc. Any comments? Or tips as to how to convert him in not too extensive a manner? Thanks

P.S he doesn't have the millstone around his neck, I felt it covered too much of his precious gut.  :P

Could really use your opinions about the ginat guys...I know there's the cooksnatcher giant that looks very cool...how about ideas for an Ironskin giant for me! Anyone?

Anyway...another battle today! very short affair. Round two of tournament...facing Dark Elves.
Similar list to before, in his army he had:
Lord on cold one
A Wizard of some kind
large unit of killing blow people
2 units of 25 spearmen
26 crossbowmen (!)
bolt throwers
cavalry x 10

Well the game went very well as you can imagine with the amount of ogres I was fielding...
Butchers wiped everything they could see...and totally dominated every magic phase, not one single miscast!
Killing blow doesn't work on ogres, so the 'black guard (?)' were rendered ineffective and wiped out. The leadbelchers took offence to 26 crossbows aiming at their mates and decided to do something about it...killing every single last one of them in a single turn! :O

this unfortunately didn't cause any panic! The cavalry posed the only problem, sorted by +1 T and Stubborn, and they were munched by a unit of 7 ogres (5 ironguts and 2 butchers) before they piled into his lone lord level character (alliteration!). This was an interesting round...coming out as a draw! He killed two ogres! Next turn i challenged him with a Butcher with a useful weapon we all love...he thought he was free suffering only 1 wound this round...which promptly multiplied into 3 and he died a horrible death! How we love elves!

By now he had two blocks of infantry left - the two units of spearmen. Rank bonus! How we hate that as ogre players! fully ranked up, standards, musicians...how to go in at a disadvantage...
How do you combat a disadvantage again? Oooooh yes...Ironguts, Lord and Butcher in the front, Bulls a flank of each unit, and 2 gorgers to munch 1 of the units and trappers in the back of the other. That was a fun combat phase...

Massacre! to the Ogres...we lost a grand total of 3 models! a Bull to shooting, and 2 ironguts to his Lord. And at the end of the game he had nothing left. How to win in 3 turns!

Thank you for your interest.

For an ironskin giant, obviously you need alot of metal. And ironskins aren't big fans of thinlings, so stay away from gnoblar attendants. Give him chains, because it is suitable, and just hammer plates into his flesh.

loving the army, and i was wondering if your base for ghark was pre-made. coz its exelent! especially the gnoblar :).

regards
Wayne and Garth, the gnoblars.

@ all: Thank you for your comments!

@ Reg06: Hmm...how to go about metal plates though? any ideas? I have some plasticard...but it would be a bit tricky...and green stuffing flat things is a pain! How would you go about it?
Also the gnoblar attendants is avery good point...but they had no trouble selling off thousands of them to the chaos dwarfs...so perhaps that could come in somehow?

@ Blackmaw: Thank you very much! The base was two pieces of plasticard that I cut to size, using a pre-designed diagram i came up with. The upper piece was then cut along the lines of the river and glued to the second after much filing to get smooth river banks. The tree stump is about an inch of a twig/branch I searched for in a park near me, and a heck of a lot of green stuff work. The cannon ball and quite  bit of the gnoblar is greenstuff also. I copied an already existing gnoblar model's clothes to get the right feel. The chaos dwarf was discovered in a bits box! and the chain was just from a hobby store! A good project! Turned out a bit different...but I like it nonetheless.

All giant suggestions are helpful!

I voted for chains, and would suggest the option of using cannon barrels as weights.  Given the nature of an Ironskin army, cannon barrels should be a more common commodity that could be used in conjunction with chains to slow down the giant and keep him in his place.
oooh good idea!

cannon barrels....hmmm

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
A few metal plates ideas;
1) Plasticard. Not a lot of work required. Thin plasticard can be bent rather easily, and the thicker plasticard can be softened with heat (hot water works well). Anyways, you only need something just a tad thicker than a credit card, and that shoud do a one directional bend rather easily.
2) Greenstuff. Roll out some greenstuff, cut a plastic ziploc bag along its seems, lubricate the insides and flatten the greenstuff in between the plasitc. Let it sit for a little bit so it is hard enough to move without ripping/warping, wipe of the excess lubricant (if any), and apply.
3) Bits. I'm sure you have plenty of clubs and ironfists left over, and gutplates, just take a snarp knife and cut off the little metal plates that are on those.

Then just cut out some rivets and nail them on!

@ just-josh: you are correct the 'rhinox' is from forgeworld...but look a bit closer and it has been extensively converted also!

@ Reg06: thank you very much, the warm water idea is genius (not used to plasticard!) and the rivets etc. also awesome...we're gonna have one angry giant!

Weeeeeeehey! I'm back! One audition succesfully completed (depressingly, really abdly so i doubt I'll get a recall there!) which leave me with much more time to...learn the words for my drama practical exams that are in a week :(
No but on a high note, the second rhinox rider that I ordered...oh wait? 2 months ago now from forge world has finally arrived this morning. It looks fantastic and the frustration has mounted that i can't do anything about it for a while! Both of my units of four IG are goin to get a boost to 5 man units each now with the spare ogre bodies from the sprue. (the rhinox rider kit comes with an ogre bull sprue, and the rider is sculpted in resin so you effectively get two free ogres!) and so my actual 4,200 point army should be full of models and needing paint to reach the table!

Unfortunately my camera still is being g*y (can i say that?) so no pics for a while :( but you can sit safe in the knowledge the the Ironskin tribe still isn't paying it's tithe to the big fat overtyrant  :D

Extortionate pricing of Forge World in the UK gave me a rhinox rider (number 2) and sufficient parts for 1 (only a base for two full really) ogre bull for £26 plus £3.12 p&p. But hey ghark needs an escort!

Drama practicals fast approaching (Monday) and the tempation of rhinox riders is nearly too much to bear! National Youth Choir of Wales is also rehearsing on Saturday for which I was meant to have learnt about 12 pieces of music...I have learnt none. Great! That's a bit of a problem. Also had a two hour tutorial of Capoeira this morning and it was awesome! Well worth giving a go, but then I went to dance class (want to go into music theatre don't judge me! Lol) and have destroyed my knee completely (again) and pulled my hamstring!  :(

Have you been practicing Capoeira for a while? or is this just a one time thing to get some training for a specific performance?

no that was my first class, but because i've been doing dance for a while now and free-running/parkour for two years I picked it up really quickly and loved every minute and so have decided to make myself even busier by adding capoeira to Tuesday nights!

Many apologies for no replies for some time and perhaps some forum absence! My drama practical exams are tomorrow evening and I have yet to learn my words. This is worrying. This is an incredibly testing time and is likely only to get worse as i have 5 concerts all stuffed into the three days after my exam! Sounds great...but when you haven't had a chance to learn the music things become tricky. Especially Faure Requiem!

Anyways, apologies to all who are awaiting pics of things, updates of the gnoblog etc. More should be with us soon. Please do not adjust your settings, normal service will return soon.

Thanks.

Hello, your models look promissing keep up the great work and hopefully better light next time.

Greetz
G
Good evening everybody!

Having had my first day off today since christmas day itself, I've finally got some modelling done!
My slavegiant has had his left arm (where the shields normally go) greenstuffed, and covered in chain with a hanging millstone from it, and a bit of chain from his collar also.
The second rhinox rider is totally built after a while of filing, only basin next before he gets an undercoat and he and his fellow rhinox rider (and ghark) can all be painted together in stages. (I want to achieve the same colour on both rhinoxen and my memory of my painting stages it...terrible). I must say that the two rhinox riders look fabulous next to one another and ghark looks ingeniously huge inbetween them! (not that he can join units)

Apologies for no pics, they should come soon (i.e. tomorrow) so keep looking! comments always appreciated

Anyone want to tell me what I should paint first? Ghark and the rhinox rider, the giant, unit of 5 ironguts, sabretusks, or finish my butcher...

Fluff is here!!!!!! Hope you enjoy:

“Tell me a story grandpa, tell me a story!” the child called as his grandfather turned to leave the room. After a slight pause in his stride the man turned,
“It’s late little one, and I’ve got to work in the morning…”
“Please?” pleaded the boy. Knowing full well that his grandson didn’t like being left to fall asleep in his small room with only a candle for light, Jacob pulled up a stool next to the child’s rickety wooden bed.
“Now you listen carefully! I don’t want you interruptin’ me, I can’t concentrate much these days!” He added in an almost playful manner. The boy giggled for a moment.
“You know those mountains you can see out by the side of the house? Real far in the distance?” the grandfather began, the boy nodded in reply holding his heavy quilt up to his nose.
“Them’s the Mountains of Mourn. No ordinary mountains. Huge. Like nothing you’ve ever seen. Called Mourn after what happened to the original tenants, skytitans they were, but the world mourned their gentle souls when the newer, meaner tenants came and devoured them all.”
The boy was engrossed totally in the story, he loved his grandfather’s fantasies, he had a knack of making the ordinary world seem, interesting and full of myths and legends. It was probably because of his days in the Emperor’s army that did it, he thought.
“Well them new owners…they took over the place see. Each one of them twice out size, and twice as strong, and they don’t half eat! Well, there’s many of ‘em who’ve risen to rule a specific area, and even one who now believes he owns the lot. But I know different. You listenin’ boy?”
“Yes!” said the boy chewing on his quilt now in excitement.
“There’s an even meaner one up further to the North. He’s not all there anymore. He was a savage brute when he was all there, but then he lost his pet. A Rhinox it was. You remember me telling you about them? Huge they are! Well anyways, he about as near to loved that animal, an ogres don’t care for much ‘cept themselves so this was rare. And then it gone and got itself killed.”
“How!” the boy loved the tales of gory fights his grandpa could imagine up even more than the fantasies.
“Wait a minute, that’s not the point of the story! Didn’t I tell you not to interrupt as well?” said Jacob in a kindly but frustrated manner. The boy withdrew back into his quilt to show his intent listening.
“Well, this ogre fellow. That’s what they’re called, ogres, by the way, the big ones in the mountains. He was so angry about these fellas that killed his pet, that he went to where no-one likes to go. Saw the dwarfs didn’t he. But not ordinary, stubborn dwarf, these dwarfs was…funny in the ‘ead, like. He made a deal with them for a thousand slaves, they would raise his pet back from the dead in metal form, stronger and angrier than ever. Quick as a mechanical steed he served up their slaves, goblin creatures they was too, and soon enough he had his steed. They even chucked in some fancy armour for him too.
Anyway, now he’s back. He doesn’t talk much, especially to anyone ‘cept ogres. In fact the only ogre he ever talks to is his second in command. Lonely chap, you can see why he’d be angry all the time. He spends all his time on that new fangled rhinox of his. Skin like steel it is, maybe it is steel, but it certainly ain’t like a live one. It breathes steam. Somethin’ odd about it I tell you. His boys, they follow him like sheep. Most of ‘em pretty silent almost all of the time. That doesn’t sound as odd as it should, mind you. If you’d ever met an ogre you’d know a silent one was incredibly odd. And not only do they copy his silence, his fancy armour too. He has so much iron on him or around him at all times, they all love the stuff. More than gold! You listening boy? Oh.” The boy was sound asleep, snugly wrapped in a ball in his quilt facing the window, content at the fantastic world his grandfather had created inside his head once again.
“That’s it, boy. You sleep easy now, thinking its all fabulous fantasies. You’ll learn, you’ll learn soon enough the way things are goin…”

After finally getting a response from an irritating (brand new!) video camera, I have some updates on what's been done! No painting I'm afraid, only modelling, all the bits were annoying me during my word learning! So here goes some updates on how things look at the mo.

Rhinox riders to accompany Ghark:

Unit of ironguts to accompany Belchfist Beastkiller (bruiser) standard WiP

My slavegiant! Simple easy conversion but I'm hoping it will be effective!

Thanks for your comments! bad and good!

Nice giant.
With a single rhinox rider you get two full bull bodies, right? Just without the bases?

Yes basically, the rhinox rider resin is an ogre body on a rhinox that has no head or arms. So they supply you with a bull sprue to go with it (both the one with the actual ogres on it and theone with the left hands, for obvious reasons (so that your riders will have left arms!

This gives you two full ogre bodies spare, they even gave me a base for one complete ogre, and anyone who's bought an ogre Bull sprue can make a full ogre out of the other parts and their bits box, all they need is a base :)

Soooo, rhinox + two bulls for 26 quids!

Do you think the Swedish Chef from The Muppets could cook for Ogres? I do. *Bork Bork Bork*
I would love to tell you that I sculpted the thing myself and it took me two minutes, but I just couldn't! the bases were ones I bought online from a store situated in Poland I believe. The service was incredible, I recieved the bases very quickly, and there was one item missing which they sent immediately after apologising and sent me a selection of other scenic bases by way of apology. This is the site:http://www.sciborminiatures.com/en_,index.php

My butcher has had a dose of paint now and is looking a lot better for it! so he should be coming along for a photoshoot later this week.

Right ladies and gentlemen! Coursework is complete for the evening, and university auditions completed for the time being, and so the evening presented me with some free time!

I have successfully finished painting my Butcher (minus the hanging gnoblar), and also pretty much finished both of my Gorgers also. These were annoying me because they almost always appear in my armylist, and it was very annoying that they weren't finished/started etc.

Also, after that painting session, I succeeded in conning my friend and his brand spanking new 2,000 point Beastmen army over to my house to play. Here's how it went

Armylists
Ogres:
Terror Tyrant
Butcher
Butcher
Butcher
5 IG
5 IG
3 B
3 B
3 B
4 Leadbelchers
30 Gnoblars
20 Gnoblars
8 Trappers
Gorger

Beastmen
Wargor
Hero
Hero
Hero
25 Pestigor
2 large beast herds
10 warhounds
3 dragon ogres
3 trolls
5 Centigors
20 Plaguebearers
Dragon Ogre Shaggoth

Deployment -

Centigors, Shaggoth, Trolls, Pestigors & Lord, Beast herd, Dragon Ogres, Plaguebearers

Bulls, Bulls, 4 LB, IG with 2 Butchers, IG w Tyrant and Butcher, Gnoblars, Gnoblars, Bulls
Trappers

Turn 1
Trappers were so placed to help avoid ambushing units.
Turn one was won by the ogres, and so everything moved as fast as possible towards his lines. Leadbelchers shot hell out of the Shaggoth and took only a single wound (2 misfires!).
All the Butchers did their business, and the Centigors were removed from play with an effective panic test which was great to watch!

Beast turn 1
Pretty much everythin moved forward once more, The Shaggoth charging leadbelchers who elected to flee. Pestigors stopped 2 inches away from the large tyrant irongut unit and generally teased them just to be annoying. NO shooting

Ogre Turn 2
Regenerating Trolls took on Regenerating Butchers and Ironguts this turn, and the shaggoth reached the death pile from two charging units of Bulls. The leadbelchers successfully rallied. To the left of the centre, rolling was incredibly poor against the trolls and they won the combat convincingly, Only just held due to Outnumbering. In the centre, the Tyrant wasn't in combat and so a Butcher lost a wound in a challenge against his lord. Ironguts cut down eveyrthing in front of them here to try and even the ocmbat res odds...and won by 1. Phew close call! Enemy broke and were destroyed (no ambushing units, general is dead). On the right hand side everything went to plan with the gnoblars shooting the plaguebearers to pieces while the bulls (miraculously) dealt with the dragon ogres.

Turn 2 was the last of the game. My opoonent didn't have much left on the field at this point, and none of his ambushing units could come on either, and to rub things in ridicuously, I'd lost only one IG out of my whole army (not even a gnoblar!) he conceded and the day was won for Gharks underlings!

Hope this has been entertaining. Will upload some pics of the Butcher and Gorgers soon.
Thanks

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
Thanks JJ! It was indeed a short brawl...!

As daemons will become a pressing matter very soon, and courseowkr is really P***ing me off I've decided to contemplate the future of my ogres.

I literally have nearly everything in the armybook now. The only things i am missing are: Greases Goldtooth (out of choice), the Tyrant model (I have the limited edition variant) and the Scraplauncher. I have 19 Bulls, 10 Ironguts, 10 leadbelchers, 2 Maneaters, 5 Yhetees, 2 Gorgers, Slavegiant, Tyrant, Butcher, Hunter, 2 rhinox riders, Ghark ironskin, 50 gnoblars and 8 trappers.

As you can tell i like as many options as possible. If I want a shooty army I can have one etc...

However (and this is where you guys come in), It is not complete until it's complete...and painting aside, i want to know what should be built next. What do you think? The options arein my opinion:
Another Butcher or 2
Tyrant model to represent a Bruiser
Scraplauncher

That's not any particular order remember, so (without me making a poll) can you please let me know what you think will benefit me the most.
Thanks for reading!

Hey what kind of experiences have you had in playing the Rhinox Cav? Some friends of mine are trying to talk me out of them because they said they would be too easy to outmaneuvar and cost too much. Just thought I would ask someone who has used them before I decide against getting them.

hmm no worries about the poll then.

Rhinox riders. I have yet to use both of them in a game as the second is fairly new, but I have used a single rhinox rider quite often. I can honestly say that with a sensible deployment for him, he has never been outmanouvred by any opponent I have faced! The Terror is a MASSIVE bonus to the army, without the ridiculousness of a giant (which might I add costs more than a single rider) and also, it effectively unloads 8 attacks into combat from one base!

The best idea is to use it on the very taking out small units, or even better flank charging with another of your units in the front. It's move of seven is usually plentiful, but if you face dark elves with steeds or something just deploy him more centrally.

Only once did he break, because I charge a unit + detatchment on his own with him in his first game thinking he was invincible...thankfully the 3d6 flee was enough! and in a few turns time he had his revenge.

Well worth adding to the collection...perhaps a proxied game or two with them to see if you really want them?
I'm sure your opponent won't mind considering ther FW prices...

Hope this has helped.

Nice. I think I will just cut some balsa wood or something to base fit and run them like RC. I made a 2250 list that looked like it could hit very hard and had 2x3 RC with Bull Rhino in each.

Didnt leave too much room, but I still managed to get some good lure units and an IG unit for the Tyrant. I have it at home just not here.

But if I do get them, I will definitely splurge for the FW models - they are just awesome in all their awesomeness.

The times you have fielded them, have you had any trouble with him being picked out for shooting or do they tend to worry about the other hammer units? Did they one wheel only ever affect your movement? Or how about the "reform" for all turn maneuvars? Was that a problem?

I agree about the awesomeness of the FW models.

I haven't had much trouble with them being picked out for shooting, i think mainly because it was a single rider and my opoonent worried more about the bigger ogre units (i play regularly and my opponents soon learned what was dangerous!) but if they do get picked on by shooting, a unit of 1 should take two units shooting away from the rest of your army at least, and a unit any bigger shouldn't even worry as it's likely to survive pretty much anything anyway!

The manoeuvers thing has never been problematic for me, in character for ogres i do my best to keep to the "CHARGE!" tactic at all time, fleeing and baiting occasionally. as long as it is positioned for maximum terror effect you will definitely get your points worth out of this beast!

Or, you could do one butcher and then you could also convert your tyrant/bruiser guy :) Then you'd have the bruiser you were after, plus another butcher :D

Indeed and in fact that sounds like quite a good plan (albeit an expensive one for a skint guy!)

So another Butcher which will easily look different to the first because of the kit, and a Tyrant that will look like a Bruiser...any ideas? Or just use the tyrant model anyway, I almost always use a Bruiser with a Great Weapon, Siegebreaker or tenderiser anyway (basically easily represented by a GW) or a brace of handguns. Any cool ideas for a conversion that's not MAJORLY dramatic?

Thanks

Right! FInally I got the camera to do some business again!

These are VERY WORK IN PROGRESS pics - but I got the camera working and so I thought I better not waste the occasion.

Please do note as well, that I was fiddling with the 'white balance' on the camera and now it doesn't seem to pick up highlights! The gorger skin is much lighter than it appears though still not complete, and the meat on the butcher isn't shiny like a gem that's bad lighting.

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
I think that they look great.  Don't be too hard on yourself Belch. I'm especially loving the flesh kabob in your Butcher.  It looks just like fresh bloodied meat.
thanks for the support guys, it's really helpful and I appreciate it lots

both the gorgers and the Butcher should be finished next week sometime, and who knows, I migth even get a game in

The gorgers look alright but could use more shading in my opion. I like the blood on the butcher.

BigD
- 5 fighters and 1 trapper; the beginning of a vast gnoblar army. A gnoblar revolutions is at hand!
Just went through this thread for the first time.

I love the overall feel of your army... It looks quite dark and gloomy.

Which is good for Ogres.
The tyrant base and Irongut bases are sweeet!

Your paiting skill is excelent.
Nice detail on the Ogres like the eyes, Tatoo on Tyrant, the nails of the Butcher and I like the blood on the butcher.
The collours that are used are fitting good toogetter.

great too see your painting stuff and keep the good work going.
Unofrtunately, courseowkr final deadlines for three subjects are this friday and I'm struggling to keep up. I haven't completed a first draft of one of them yet (*gulp*). So until the weekend, modelling is still postponed.

However I have just been looking back through the gnoblog, and realised how little of the army you guys have actually seen. I think it's about time for a family photo and a photo of some bulls and Ironguts!

@ BigD: The gorgers do indeed look fairly 2D in those pics which is a shame :( a result of 'white balance'? :p but they are wip and need one more coat lighter anyway, so hopefully the camera will sort itself out soon enough

@ warhammerlord_soth and Dooppie: Thanks for your comments guys, the dark angle was intentional and hopefully it gives them a slightly more realistic/evil persona than the usual guys :p even if it's a teeny tiny difference! lol

Anyway, just to let you know, I thought my auditions for Music Theatre Courses in the best places in the ocuntry were going veeeeery badly, but I've had recall auditions with them all, and have also been offered a place at possibly the most renowned of them all; Mountview in London. So after the summer it looks as though i'm london bound.

Must dash - lots of coursework to do!

Thanks for keeping up!

Sorry for the huuuuge bout of absence - but a retunr to the gaming world has been heralded over the last week with my daemons arriving - which you can follow to completion (hopefully) in a new gnoblog here: http://ogrestronghold.com/forum/index.php?topic=9274.0

This does NOT mean ogres will be left behind however. They will indeed perhaps end up playing my daemons to see how the armies fare against one another.

A-Levels in 3 days don't promise much though :| should probably start revising ...

I've got a serious knack for missing out on cool G'logs

Anway just wanted to say keep the work up when you can, Ghark and his mount looks brilliant, really would like to see it finished!
But hold on, a Gnoblar in payment for the mount? how the hell did Ghark manage to pull that trade off

Good stuff, keep it coming!

You can't be old and wise, and have youthful memory... even if you are FF

Achievements 39/101

Latest: 9. Sigh! - lose more than 3 ogres to any one casting of a spell that involved you taking an initiative test as part of it's resolution

Riiiight gnoblog resurrection number 2!

A pre-emptive strike here as well until next monday when i return to my models!

The single model on the base is/was Ghark's favourite pet gnoblar that he kept with him at all times. Thw Dawi Zharr took thousands of gnoblars and other slaves as payment, but demanded a personal loss for personal gain from Ghark himself ;)

I will also try to get that army pic for you, family photo with good lighting! You haven't seen much of it! Gosh :)
