If you have any suggestions regarding the Stronghold website or forum, please let me know here.
Two things:
1) Quick reply box at the bottom.
2) When pages open, they all seem to be really really wide, and I have to scroll sideways. Not a huge issue, but it would be nice to fix it if you have time ;)

Good idea for a thread, this.

edit> It also irritates me when I post, and it gives me redirecting options. I liked it better when I just got redirected to the thread I just posted in, but I realise that others will probably disagree.

Had an idea (ok, I stole it off another site, but anyways) - a 'comments' system for the articles/paint comp sections. That's where a lot of the Stronghold's best stuff is, and we currently don't have a way to comment on it. :D

SM
At Bugman's Brewery, if you hold the cursor over an abbreviation, a little box comes up stating the most common uses for this abbreviation. eg: CR comes up as 'Combat Resolution'. I think that would be really useful.

Those two suggestions would take a bit more time, though they are good ideas.  I'll see what I can do :)
It wouldm be good if you devided the "Beond the kingdoms" and "Off topic" in two like in the other forum!
I've been looking at the OK vs other armies threads.. I've been thinking about it, wouldnt it be cool to have a similar forum with a thread dedicated to each unit type in  the armybook?
So we'd have a thread regarding butchers only, hunters only, gnoblars only etc. Here people could lay down their succesful tactics aswell as nasty comboes involving said unit type..

Another suggestion is more strict moderation in these types of threads.. As far as I can see there's only one mod, hragged himself, which does equal alot of hard work for just one person, so maybe hiring new mods, you should know most of the oldtimers anyway..
In the old tactics thread alot of posts where simply out of context such as discussing army lists and what not.. Simple deletion of posts not on topic should be standard imo..

Thats it from me atm, otherwise great forum ^_^
A Roleplaying thread, like in the old forum.

Would this (the subgroups) be something to ponder about having on this forum? My idea is to make subgroups to belong too, such as, SKYTITANS TRIBE, LAZARGHS TRIBE, IRONSKIN TRIBE, BAULDIG MOUNTAINEATER TRIBE, FEASTMASTERS TRIBE, ANGRYFIST TRIBE, EYEBITERS TRIBE, CAVE-BEAST TRIBE. And you (Hragged) could appoint leaders for the various tribes, for instance (Ikim) leader of the Skytitans tribe. There could be alot of fun in the subgroups, like just trying to join them, (the leaders could accept or decline any ogre or kickout of the group) give out invatations, or the leader can make ogres meet certain requirements before they are accepted into the tribe.
B'ong
I think it would be kinda fun (and helpful for any campaigns) is we had a detailed map of the old world. Like the world map people could post where their tribe is. We can go as far as coloring in the teritories of each tribe. This can also come with a big fluff conference for each tribe.

Just my two gnobbos. Could be fun and would help bring interest and cooperation in the comunity.
The tribe idea is neat, kind of like clans in Everquest or WoW.
I think somewhere on the main site, or maybe on the forum, a Hall of Heroes (or something suitably Ogrish) would be cool. Where members who've won forum competitions would be listed, along with their victory.

The tribe idea sounds neat.

Warseer has thread ratings were you can can give a thread a rating of 1-5 depending how useful or informative it is, and it lets people know instantly that a thread they might not otherwise spot is worth checking out.  I like it, and I think it would be cool here.

I Fought the MAW but the MAW Won.
@ Blu Blu. That is brilliant! A compromise. It would kind of simulate the roughness of the ogre Kingdoms, all fighting for the best and to be the conquerors of them all. The only problem with the tribe thing is that there are about 1000 tribes on this forum and some may not be able to choose who to join and whose tribes would be selected for this. Maybe there should be a new selection of MODS who all run their tribes and have members. They have a forum with a password each and can talk about stuff that is realted to their tribe. The thing is, most people will flock to the Change Eaters because they'd have the mighty Corai to lead them...

Tribes will want to steal good posters and boot the bad ones

I Do not think that is a great idea because people will most likely feel left out if booted.

I think with the whole tribe thing would not work because 90% of people have their own tribe.
@ shavis I am not big on this idea because it would IMO diminish the whole unity of this site with all he different tribes.

not putting down anyone's ideas this is just my opinion.

cheers,Gorg
They cant stop us let 'em try, For heavy metal we will die.

I think the only way the tribes would work was if it was kept fairly simple.  First off they should be major tribes chosen from the army book, each one should be headed by a mod, and when you join the forum you are tribeless and it should be a reward to be invited into one, like a luck gnoblar.  Each tribe can represent a certain aspect of the hobby, three mods so three aspects; modeling, tactics, and backround.  You are invited to join a tribe depending on what sort of contributions you make to the forum.  So when a member sees that you are a member of such and such tribe, they know you are an expert at tactics and any advice you give in your field will be given an extra bit of credibility.

I think that a system like that could work, but with luck gnobs already in place, it might be a bit redundant.
:maw:

I think that a system like that could work, but with luck gnobs already in place, it might be a bit redundant.

I think this could work, but they would be different. A Pet Gnobbo is for 1 exceptional post or general contribution, not particularly to just one aspect. If you had a Pet Gnobbo count and a Tribe then that would really show people who you are. The lucky thing is there are 3 MODS, but who would do what? They're all so good at everything!

@ Gorg. Yeah, I agree now. I think having debates and stuff would destroy the community here. If you made Tribe status a reward then that wouldn't make people unhappy it would make others happy. I just don't think Pet Gnobbos would have to go or the tribe system wouldn't work. To have a Pet Gnobbo and be in a tribe really shows off your status in the Stronghold.

I am whole heartedly opposed to rating threads.  The issue being that some people are immature and will take the time to go through year old threads to derate someone.  I know it's not something that will happen alot but, unfortunately, those types of things happen on the internet.  As far as tribes and stuff I think it's a nifty idea.  On many other sites they have similar ideas (some call them clans, some call them initiatives, etc.).  Only it's not so much for prestige but they help further the community.  For instance one clan will write tactical articles once a month and another clan may write an article on how to use GS.
This thread is worthless without pictures
Really?  I've never seen the rating system abused at warseer, in fact people only seem to bother rating really good threads or really bad threads.  Of course I have only been participating in online forums for a couple of monthes now, so my experience is a bit limited.

I definitly think tribes have potential if done correctly, and I think with the great community we have here it wouldn't be hard.

Is there some way possible to take the, forgive my lack of technical knowledge, naviagation bar that is at the top of each page and put it at the bottom too?  It would be nice to get done reading at the end of a page and not have to scroll back up, but just hit the navigation buttons instead.  If I am missing something, please enlighten me.  Thank you for your efforts.

Well there is the 'jump to' option at the bottom which can be used to hop between bits of the forum. I'm not sure if this would solves your problem though, which navigatin bar are we talking about?

If this is already being talked about then please forgive me but shouln't we start a new Arena of Death after TO4G.

There are some options as to what we could do:

1. Normal pit fight Ogres only
2. Choose a race pit fight
3. Unit AoD
4. Zombie rising AoD (fight multiple zombies every turn)
5. Duet pit fight

I'm not saying we should start immedeately, but after Tale Of Four Gamers would be good.

Would it be possible to have hyperlinks stand out a little more? Perhaps I'm just a little colorblind, but it sure looks to me like it's nearly the same color as regular text. Bright blue or red and underlined or something like that would help a lot. I've seen a bunch of threads where it's not very apparent in any way that some of the text is a hyperlink, especially of someone doesn't say specifically it is. Take a look at the link in Shavis's post two above mine for "The Cutthroat's Den". It just looks like normal text, you'd have to guess to know it's clickable.

Edit: Poo... two more posts until I'm stuck with "Hunter" for my title. I don't like hunters! Can I have something else? Slaughtermaster maybe? :)

Yes, links are difficult to spot, I'll modify them so they stand about a bit more :)
I know our army of the kingdoms section has the "army lists of fame", to help give new people an idea of what competitive lists look like, but here's another idea:

What about a skewered army list thread for people to post tried-and-true successful ogre tournament lists? This could be as easily done as someone submitting their list to a mod, as well as the short tactics/bat rep area that you see on the army lists of fame.

I think this would help show new players a bit of variety (many of the army lists of fame are quite similar), and as different ideas/tactics/combinations come into the fold, we can expand and keep a record of what has worked and what hasn't. If this is something that might generate some interest, submitting guidelines could be as follows:

:Point Value
:Army List
:How the army has done in tournaments (and which ones)
:general tactics

Anyway, just thought I would throw this out there. Undoubtedly, it would take the thread time to really fill out, but it looks like a few people on the forum have done relatively well with ogres lately, and I'd be willing to bet a few of them would be happy to contribute.

I see what you mean, ikim.

I guess the only problem I see with the voting part of the army reference lists is you will have a lot of inexperienced people voting. It might be nice to have a separate thread of proven, successful, tournament lists where others' opinions and popularity are left out of it.

Regardless I think an update at the end of summer would be well warranted.  :D

A "Board Name" where all the Ogre Stronghold contests could be gather or a open special thread in the top of the "Gates of the Stronghold" to link any contest being run. Think it would help anyone coming for a check to see if there is anything going on as competition, be easy to find the info for all and would help the community in gathering people instead of losing their made activity under regular chat.

On the main page of the forums it's easy to tell which forums have unread posts. However, once you click into one of those forums, the individual threads with new posts have no icon that distinguishes them from threads with no new posts. Any chance of getting the unread threads color coded?

And I noticed that URL links are still the same color and don't stand out. :(

Anyway, my comment about the link color still stands :D

Also, is there any way to get that little folder structure thing that shows which forum/thread/post you're in to be at the bottom of each page as well? i scroll my way down through a thread while I read and then have to go back up to the top to click back out to the thread/forum root. I know there's the "jump to" pull-down box, but its less convienient to use.

But with all the WFO, I suppose they could have a real and definite use!  And I assume they're as random as irony dice (and without the eeeevil name).  Are they standard UBB code?  I wonder ...

I dunno squat about code, but maybe warseer says somewhere at the bottom, or has a link to the code/build engine that runs those forums. If it's remotely compatable with our forums, that should be added, chop chop. :D

I'm now just thinking about it, having noticed through an armylist in the Armies of the Kingdom section how outdated the skewered lists are. I don't want to say they are bad, but they belong to an early school of thought, and Ogre players know better now. So I'm wondering how hard it'd be to go over the whole site, and review things like skewered tactics, articles, and the Ogre wiki. Have some dedicated specialists update things.

Here's some forum stuff on putting dice roller mods into SMF (what's behind the Stronghold) -> http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=26713.180

Not 100% on my PHP or such, but for those in the know ...

I agree that the old squered lists are a little "dated" now - I think we'll open up a new competition to get the better variants back in - and award some more pet gnoblars.  I'll discuss it with the other mods and get back to you soon.
x105 - keeping pace with my wins!

Ogre achievements: 65/101 latest: maneater (play in 5 different venues)

Latest Fantasy Result: ogre kingdoms vs. high elves - 1500 points - win!

8th edition: 105/25/12
New ogres: 36/6/5

I was born and bred in a briar patch!
So what's up with the chatroom funciton? I can't log into it, it just sits there at "logging in..." and then eventually disconnects. I wouldn't be shocked if my place of work is port blocking the java applet it launches, but I was wondering if other people have problems with it or if anyone actually uses it.

It works just fine for me (at home, no nasty port blocking!).  But I hardly ever use it.  Whenever I log on I never seem to see anyone from OS.

Hopefully it is possible to revert the changes?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I *think* I've got all the pages fixed now.  If not feel free to revert the pages I've missed back to before they were defaced.
I think I'll end up just forcing logins for the Wiki now as it appears we were hit by a bot.
Its really annoying people make such things, it messes up a lot of things.
Good that it is fixed.

On Da Warpath forum we had all sorts of excellent activitys. There was that army book we made our selves wich I think ended up in some WD in USA and the DWQ - an internet magazine. Correct me if your already doing something like that.

Such activitys really bring the forum together and attracts more members.
You gonna eat that?

Hmm, here's an idea I kinda stole from the Bolter and Chainsword:

An Ogre Painter. Basically there'd be a blank Ogre drawing (One of Corai's awesome drawings no less ;))
*wink wink nudge nudge*
Then all along the sides there would be little boxes that can be clicked on and you choose a color...

Well, maybe Corai can explain it better, since he's a member of the B&C.

He should know what I'm talking about.

If a email newsletter/magazine sorta thing were to happen, I'd be interested in helping. I'm not very good at anything that would be useful for this, though.

Technically, the 'Dont' in the phrase 'Dont you get it?' should have an apostrophe in it, between the 'n' and the 't'.

1st, I'd like to say that I'm digging Pet Gnoblars, being as new as I am.

2nd, I have seen a thread in the announcements regarding why certain people earned their Pet Gnoblars.

This leads me to my question/comment.

I've earned 2 Pet Gnoblars in my short span here and while I have an understanding why I earned the one I have no clue why I earned the other. Granted I try to be as informative as possible and protect the site as if I myself were a Moderator, but that's just how I am. So, I'll sum it up like this:

Is there anyway that we can continue to update the above mentioned thread or even PM the people who have received Pet Gnoblars as to let them know why they have earned them?

Thank you for the Pet Gnoblars so far guys. It gives reason to continue to provide for the Ogre Stronghold as a whole.

How about having a Guest Section so Guests can speak, for an example you don't have a computer to get to and say you were at a library, they would only have time to put a quick note, that is my reason for the Guests section on the Stronghold.

@FF, over 1000 posts there is no difference at all in post count.
And most of the people are over 1000 posts anyway I guess.

I look more at the poster and the post then the amount of posts to see how I should approach the information in that post (still following me?).

Yes I follow you and I do the same completely.

Being about to used this post to gain the tyrant rank, our current highest I think I have the right to comment :P

To be honest I think the post number and ranking system can encourage our younger users to spam a little and a post a lot of one liners. There's nothing particularly wrong with that but it doesn't help the community grow much. The pursuit of pets for example would be better. At least with the limit rank there is no benefit from beyond here.

I can personally see merit in both sides of the argument, but for the first time in a long time, I will have to agree with 1337WinKarchevwhateverhecallshimselfthesedays... I think the introduction of further ranks will give people more of a goal, and when I was climbing the ranks, I was inspired to post by the thought of reaching higher and higher. But, I do see what you mean Scroth, in regards to multiple one-liners, and similar pointless posts. However, I don't often see these sorts of posts around these parts much anymore...

on a totally different topic...

Hragged for a while now i have been running a poll to see the opinion of the ogre players towards online RPGs.
i got the idea from my time spent at the herdstone and the under empire. both of those sites have RPG forums for players to start RPGs in.

the poll results at the time of this post are:

yes - 24 (68.6%)
no - 3 (8.6%)
don't know - 1 (2.9%)
don't care - 7 (20%)

for more up to date results please visit my ongoing poll here --> http://www.ogrestronghold.com/forum/index.php?topic=16157.0
if there is anyone who sees this post and wishes to vote or comment on the RPG idea feel free.

Hragged the reason i post this here is that i hope you will consider starting up a special forum for Ogre RPGs, i realize this will be a lot of work and will probably take a while to complete, so i understand if you don't want to do it.

We used to have an RPGs forum section, but there wasn't enough interest or activity in it so it was merged Maw-pit Sagas. Many previous attempts at RPGs here have failed, but a good bit of time has passed since the last one - looking at your poll results, maybe we now have enough people who'll keep playing to make a dedicated section worthwhile.

I'll re-open the RPG section later today for a trial run. If we still have an active RPG in a month, it'll stick around :)

Sod the rules, everything can go up 50 points for all I care, I want the new book for Captain Lardgut! I remember I used to refresh the pages so I could try and get every piece of advice...

Same here, I'll definately look at the next Bellower !

The only real limit on the effectiveness of gnoblars is the owner's tolerance for painting so many of them.
I'm putting forwards a humble request for a stickied thread in the FAQ section to help explain the full implications of the latest batch of erratas concerning Gut Magic. About half of the questions coming up recently are asking 'is GM RiP?' or something of a similar nature and it'd save people a lot of page-flipping.

Not a necessity, but it would be great if members could connect to their individual gnoblogs from the home page, rather than having to search.
If you add your Gnoblog to your profile you will have a "Gnoblog" link under your name with your other forum details which you (and others) can click - it takes you right to the thread. Hope this helps.

Randroid you are a shining star in my computer illiterate sky. Thanks a million. :>D
Small update based on a comment I noticed elsewhere: I've re-written the forum section descriptions so newcomers can quickly and easily understand what each section is about - they're much more straight to the point now :)
This seems a suitable location,
Can we have a sort of Party to celebrate the release of the new book when it comes?
I have no ideas beyond this point but we could hope some compititions chance to win some big names a few games or something, just because evreyone will be buzzing with exitment and as we are the biggest(?) ogre apreciation society I think this would be a good idea :D I could help arrange it and stuff but my skills are limited...

Thanks for listening,
TLK!

We may or may not be already planning a brand new "Battle of the Tyrants" series of contests for that very purpose (veteran members will remember the last one!) *shifty eyes* :D

Edit: coming in 2012.
i would like to be able to rate everyones pictures as they are some awesome ones and postiong takes up a little longer
Suggestion withdrawn...totally forgot about our Pet Gnoblars.

Feel free to devour this posting and enjoy your meal! :D

On the Stronghold home page there are random pictures of ogre miniatures, would it be possible to make it so that clicking on the picture would take you to a picture of that miniature in the gallery?

Currently it is it takes you to gallery, which has a lot of sections so it can be hard to find the awesome model you just saw on the home page. :(

Example: I click on a picture of a bretonian ogre it takes me to -> Bretonnian Ogres by ogrebane
So I'm new to OK and fantasy as a whole. I have read through the OK book and a copy of the core rules are on their way to my door.  After reading through the OK book, as well as many threads on this site, I have a decent idea of how to use the different units, but I think it would be beneficial to have a thread or something called Know Your Army to go along with the Know Your Enemy thread to give new players a basic idea of how/when to use thier units.  I know a discussion on this happens in some capacity in numerous threads every day, but a quick run down on each of the units with basic tactics included I believe would be helpful.  Maybe even a subforum for each so users can talk about alternative tactics/uses for them as well.  I've looked all over for something like this but haven't seen it. Hopefully I'm not blind.  :D

Not sure if this is the best place for it, but my Avatar has disappeared. It was one of the stock options, but they seem to be unavailable now. Will they be back? I suppose my suggestion is - can they come back please! :)

Not too necessary, but:

1) Other armies' lists should be in the thining realms section, as our section is called "armies of the KINGDOMS."

2) There should be an option in "know your enemy," or a seperate section, for fighting certain army lists, instead of posting it in "the feeding grounds."

Thanks for listening.
Facing ogres is like facing an avalanche.

There should be a new ogre area,so they learn how to use the forum properly.......
90% of teens today would die if Facebook had a system failure and was completely destroyed. If you are one of the 10% that would be pissing themselves laughing , copy and paste this to your signature.

I'm putting it down to my noobish ways.

Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to glue and buy
Could there be a seperate space for mathammer? It would be full of fun/tactical facts that would help a bunch of people with list building and playing. Thanks!
