Welcome to the strongold Mentag and its good to see someone doing other things than plain old ogre kingdoms even though they look cool enough but can be improved upon  .
Iv'e seen a few nurgle blogs before and they have turned out really well and can't wait to see this one develop

wow, very very nice. Each is unique and individual but the inclusion of the repeated shoulder pad motif really adds a unity to the army. I'm relaly looking forward to seeing this army progress. Is this al lyou've got built at the moment? How are you planning on painting them?

More pictures are always nice, trust me you'll not get anyone around here complaining there are too many pics! Your yhetee is a great idea. I agonized for about a week over how to do my chaos yhetees before finally settling on an idea, and the river troll makes a great base for a nurgle yhetee. The gnoblars look nice and I like the little touches you've added to make them more nurgley but I'd say at the moment they still look very much like beastmen (it's a nice change from using nurglings as gnoblars though).

I love the greater Tyrant of Nurgle. It looks great and when you finish off the GS I'm sure it'll look even better. This ia a really ncie looking army. Will you be participating int the Christmas (although it's unlikley to happen unti the new year!) campaign? The forces of chaos could use all the help we can get!

They look great but i'd like to see a tiny bit more boils since nurgle are about plauge not growth.

For the leadbelchers, why not take it to the extreme and give your leadbelchers hellcannons? It might be expensive, but then you could buy one for your thundergut and sculpt the other ones yourself. You could also use tyranid venom cannons or devourers.

first of all you cant have 2 yhettes in a unit. Second of all champions are wastes for units .

This list is 137 points shy of 1000 .
Why not just use your bruiser in the unit. Also most fighty characters will accept and will probaly slay you champion if they are a decent fighter. If you try to challenge mages they won't accept . 40 points for 2 champions would be a lot better spent on other stuff.
Also 5 bulls with your bruiser i suspect is meant to be a hammer unit? 4 ironguts with the bruiser or even 3 ironguts with the bruiser would be a lot better hammer unit IMO. I think you should also field 20-25 gnoblars 32 is going overboard there only there for static combat res that 32 does the same as 20 or 25.
If you ditched the champs and 12 gnoblars you would have 64 points 1 shy of another yhette though your list may be under 1000.
Also i reckon you should only have your bulls in a unit of 3 as a screen and have about 2 units of 3 guts with some command. Its also very easy to convert bulls to ironguts. You have 2 spare gutplates so thats outta the way. On the heads note you can just sculpt them or i accidently used a leadbelcher head thinking it was an irongut bellower but it still looks like that. The box of guts only comes with 4 GW but if you have 2 units of 3 with a standard in each you will have enough bits to make 2 standard ironguts and 4 GW wielding ones. With this you should only have to sculpt some armour onto a normal bull head and hey presto you got 6 ironguts and 4 bulls instead of 6 bulls and 4 ironguts

Don't worry, after a few times out agaisnt your ogres, no player i nthyeir right mind will be issuing or accepting challenges. They'll all be too afraid of the outcome!

I really like the Tyrant! I like your idea of scultping chainmail coming down from the head; it should hide any awkward joins and make him look more Ogreish.

One idea for a unit (probably best on Ironguts or Maneaters) is that they are Nurgle's special chosen as they have the greatest gift Ogres believe Nurgle can bestow on them: bigger guts! Basically, these Ogres are gross, corpulent beasts with an unquenchable appetite, that are forced to eat constantly in order to sustain their mutated bodies. For an example of a fat Ogre, maybe u could use Greasus.

That tyrant is great. Looks like my chaos army is going to lose its guo now!! I will be keeping my eye on this because im also doing a nurgle themed ogre army 

Mentag looks great . Not a fan of that tyrant head normally but works well on yours ... Good work!!

i really like the tyrant and the champios tongue looks really good

although it looks a bit like they are flowing over the rocks, they are some really nice, almost fantastic conversions

Apparently using a paintbrush dipped in water is good for getting greenstuff smooth and removing fingerprints etc.

I like the Nurgle symbol gutplate Ogre, and the titles of the units.

I'm not sure, but I didn't think you could take the Cathayan Longsword as well as the Battle Standard?

I'm sure someone more knowledgable than me can correct me if I'm wrong!

Great looking conversions!  Can't wait to see the tyrant finished.  The way I smooth GS is using the spoon end of the sculpting tool to polish it after it has had a while to set up, or if it is a fairly large, smooth area I just get my thumb wet and polish it with a circular rubbing motion, hope that helps.

I am about to make some markers for the army. I was wondering if anyone has any inspiration for the Gut Magic marker?

due to the sorcerous/chaotic theme of my army, my gut magic markers are going to be spell books, some open, some closed (probabley with guts over them) with the name of the spell on the spine/cover. I've seen some really nice markers but still find it hard to tel which spell they are so think having the word on the marker somewhere will help

I used the 40mm round bases from 40k and used a rock some guts and a heart. I made 2 markers for each of my butchers. Love the Fluff by the way. Nothing worse than a pi$$ed of ogre. Look out greasus I say.

About the gut magic markers, maybe make them diseased like the heart oozing out pus instead of blood, the rock covered in vile slime and the trollguts well, there already vile enough.

Corai's suggestion is good, and I might just go one step further in suggesting using Zombies instead of militia, as less conversion may be required (eg. I reckon there's a Zombie torso on the sprue with guts spilling out of the belly).

wow, the model looks excellant. As you said, you still have a lot to do and I'm not sure what you're planning but I'd advise distressing the metal areas more as they both look a little clean and fresh in the picture. Also the skin, while painted/blended exceptionally looks a little hale and healthy to me. I can see the sunken, sickly thing you've got going on but I'm not sure if maybe it needs a tinge or a glaze of a slightly 'off flesh' colour. Just my opinion of course, as I said at the beginning, the acual painting is fantastic

Looking great man.  Maybe for the skin a couple of glazes of 1:1:5 green ink:yellow ink:water would give it a bit of a sickly look.  You might want to try on a test model tho   It is definatley looking awesome tho man, ,keep up the good work!

Wow impressive work, can't wait to see him finished.  Is this really JUST a Bull or was that a typo? If all your Ogres are going to be converted and done to such a high quality the army will definitely be amazing to see.

I love the model so far (apart from the clean, bright skin and metal, but that's already bin covered). Just one gripe though: I don't like the stance of ur model on the base. I think it might look better if the model is either standing on the stone, or 'climbing up it', not marching at a slant.

Try either patches of water down green/ brown washes to make him look more Plaguebearerish or a little green ink and rotting flesh mixed into the normal top layer of paint. And it does look excellent, there just seems to be a small blob of putty or something on the gutplate. If it's something I'm just not seeing, then ignore this...

It looks great and like others said i'd rather have more of a greenish off colour to the skin tone to make it look nurglish. Other than that it looks awesome and the base is real good, i just do some sand and snow

I have faith in you! I finished painting 14 wardnacers and 5 glade riders at 11pm the night before a tourny. Be prepared is my moto! 

Looking great. the bleached white of the animal skulls woirks really well with the flesh colour you have, and I hadn't noticed before that the eye sockets were hollowed out to allow for that real mask feeling. Excellant work. Looks like you've got a busy 2 1/2 days (or is it 1 1/2 now?) Looking forward to seeing the finished thing ready for the tourney

black could work (it is, afterall, the classic night gobbo look) but I'd consider a more earthy and natural brown. You've done a great job getting a really natural looking skin tone (as natural as green skin can be, my point is that it looks like skin rather than neon!) and I think this could tie in nicely

Corai I don't have a clue how I will do the robes. Have you any ideas? I don't mind the standard black though I have never highlighted black extensively before.
I am going to try some more models tomorrow and go for a strong layer build from Catachan to Rotting leaving the guys quite pallid. I will probably start a new gnoblog for them anyway.

Since your gobbo's have a pallid skincolor, a dark codex grey (one part codex grey and one part black as the 1st, heavy drybrush and a light drybrush of codex grey) drybrush would look nice, IMO.

I'm late to the party and just want say how awesome your army looks. This thread pretty much swung me on choosing Ogres and, if you don't mind, i'll be bending your ear for some painting tips over the coming months.

Did you post a pic of the complete army btw?

The chosen mount is an odd one, but you haven't produced anything that wasn't great before, so I'm excited to see what becomes of this.

It's looking amazing, awesome work on the scythe handle.
But where is the brontox rider?

It's looking really fantastic. The detail in the cuts and sores is incredible, and I really like the nest of tentacle toes. Is he going to be holding the scythe in both hands?

Q How did you get the wood effect like that?
I have tried loads of diffrent ways but my stuff always comes out looking scratchy.

Amazing work Mentag. Everything is coming out very well, but the exposed entrails look more like nests of worms because of the small diameter (they're still amazingly well done).

The wood effect is done by simply drawing a blade or tool along the green stuff in very tight lines. To vary it don't make the lines too straight and sometimes push the grain apart making it look a little wavy.

Realy?  Thats how I do it, you must have a much more steady hand than me.

How much setting time do you give the GS before you sculpt and do you vary your mix much?

I don't know, I think it looks like an ogre wearing a box. The shoulder pads stick out to far, the breastplate looks like just a flat sheet hanging down, and I'm not a huge fan of the arms. In all honesty, I think you could do far better. But that's just one man's opinion.

I think what Reg meant, is that the plates are too square ( and also compared to each other)
The armour needs more rounding to make it fit better on the model

The slavegiant is looking awesome.

I agree that the front of the chaos armour could do with curving more if possible (something to think about on the other maneaters). If youre trying to make it look like a giant chaos warrior, have you thought about adding some skulls around the neck (ala archaon) or one of the arrow shoulderplates that curves over the shoulder then dissapears under the fur cloak?

Looking at your other work, I think you could sculpt much better armor than what you did with the plasticard. Even if it is just some shoulder pads and a breastplate.

I think the armour needs scuzzing up a bit more, like chunks missing, dents and axe bites etc etc.
Also maybe some rivets and chain aswell to hold it all together would look better.

Blu I don't know about the steady hand though patience does help! I leave the GS overnight to dry.

...I think you miss understood me I was'nt saying how long do you let it set for before handling but how long arfter you have mixed a batch do you leave it before you start to sculpt it as different drying times give different working properties to GS.
