The Ogre Stronghold's Cristmas Campaign - A suggestion.
A couple of minutes ago, Corai and I had a discussion about the fact that there are ogre tribes on this forum representing the 4 powers of chaos. That conversation inspired me to do an OGRE STRONGHOLD CRISTMAS CAMPAIGN about chaos corrupting ogre tribes in the mountains of mourn. Could this idea work, maybe? Perhaps, people, who are interested could sign up here with a name of their general and a little bit of fluff + a description of which side they're fighting for. Some fluff, that I've thought of is that Corai's Slaughtermaster, Skyronn has allied with a tribe of Tzeentch Beastmen, The Flying Beaver's Nurgle Army have joined up with the NUrgle Ogre tribe, Lexy's Chaos Horde has joined up with the Slaanesh tribe and these are fighting against the forces of the Stronghold, lead by Overtyrant Hragged and his lesser tyrants for control of the mountains.
What do you think?
Please note that this is just a funny idea, that sprung into my heaad as I looked at the chaos gnoblogs.
Please come with your oppinion.
I think that we could start the campaign by december 10th or so, or even earlier, then end it in the middle of january/february.

Oddly enugh, I really like the idea. I'm not sure how we'd implement it, but I think it sounds like a great idea and we could have a lot of fun with it! So Sign me up

I would be down for backing up Hragged anytime I here-by pledge the mercenary band of Arcael as free conscripts to the over-tyrant's cause as he needs them.
In order to do it there are some decent programs out there (like photoshop or autocad) that can do real measurements. We know all the base sizes and such so... Battles over email, tho they take a long time, are pretty fun. It loses a certain portion of the game (you can measure before you move and such) but it gets the point across Anyways, count me in!
This thread is worthless without pictures

I am not to sure I understand, but to someup- you want to start a campaign between ogre tribes? And each person submits a character (and only a character, and not his units also?) to this campaign for use in it? If I understood this right it sounds pretty cool. And what is the pts. limit for the character. B'ong
Dtrik27 Nov 2006
Sounds like a great premise for a campaign, however where could you find enough ogre players nevermind ogre players with chaos themes? Like I said though, it sounds really fun and I'd love to get in on it. But it does seem a little short notice to run it as a christmas campaign, maybe do some planning and run it later if all goes well.

Anyway, I don't really understand how this is going to work, but the idea appeals me... keep it up, Kyte, and post your thoughts.

I'm not exactly sure how this would work. It sounds cool, but how would the battles be worked out? I'm not sure I understand. Sounds cool though, the tribe of Shrewd Fulg would fight for the Stronghold.

Was just playing Warhammer:Mark of Chaos (new computer game that just came out)!!! hehe Here are few ideas on the spot for the Campaign.. They need to be revisited but since we are only bashing things up.. here it goes.
The campaign would be easy to put in place. You would have to create a huge map of the northen area of the Mountain of Mourn and simply copy it as a post image on this forum to be seen or download. Map would have circled area with stronghold here and there, few Key terrain, some hills & mountain to take over, canyons & tunnel. Next compile an equal amount of starting points for both side for all the army that play (Choas Ogre vs Ogre, O.K. rules). Each week people would move their army forward or stay in position for defending points or offence points to be gain (depending on rules put in place). When 2+ army face each other on a zone we check the amounts of points, the bigger win the zone & the loser must retreat 1 zone loosing some amount of point gain. People are allowed to join with other tribes on their circled area to boost the amount of points at that position or moving forward with a another tribe (max number of tribes in one zone to be check).
If at a time there is a draw in points on a zone where 2 group face each other... then we go to the real game. Which would be play directly on this forum during the week. A drawing of the battlefield would be put up by a third party easy to update with photobucket each night. The team would move their army forward using command as; team, unit, number of inch, 10-30-60-90 degree right-left-forward-backward, charge or not, magic use. When dice need to be roll the use of a third party or use of small dice program could be put in place.
Army would be small in size since im thinking alot of people might get on it. For that reason I would throw the idea that all players start with a heroes/tyrant with only a unit of bull (given an amount of point). Each 'single zone point' gain on the territory taken, stay in place or defended... could be 'sold' on a pre-game/during-game Mountain of Mourn Market list... to buy a certain type of unit to join that player ranks (player army). Example: 1 point gain on the campaign map equal 100 points gain for your army, can only buy one unit per week. This way an easy battle could be put in place at the campaign start while keeping a huge fight for the two last player still alive near the campaign end. Following a built up of experience and acquisition of unit during the campaign for these 2 army.
Just a throw down idea ! Would need a good amount of time to be put in place for the rules and the maps to be done in advance, but would be simple to play and manage. Winner side win that full territory on a bigger map representing the Mountain of Mourn as in O.K book.

Kyte29 Nov 2006
Barabas, your idea is awsome! Kind of the same as I thought of, but much better explained! If I understand this right, you have to play battles over the internet using the forum, email or MSN. I think it could work, but damn, it would be boring. Another idea would be to do like the game Risk, if you know it. Then just have a map, two teams and lots of players. Each player may do these things once a day: Attack, Move, Reinforce/Trade.
Then every army could start with about 20 points. Characters could join an army to boost thier skills. There should be a list of units, that gives advantages/disadvantages to include in the army.
I still can't figure out how to fight. Maybe, we could use an online dice simulator or something?
get it?
BTW, Off topic, but is the ogre on the banner gonna get a santa hat on december 1st?
- Kyte
Corai29 Nov 2006
I really like Barabus' idea, but agree with Kyte that battles over the net run the risk of being a bit boring. we could try using an online dice simulator, or a much simpler (but less authentic) solution. It's a simpler but relies a lot more on trust. When two people meet in a zone and need to fight, why not have them go out and pay real world opponents using the same points leel, then PM the result (who won, by how many victory points) to a 3rd party referee who decides whether one person wins thezone or not.
just a suggestion
Thanks Corai

It seems like a good idea, but hard to implement in an appropriate fashion. I don't relly know how it could work. Online battles seem very tedious and it may be hard to describe exact battlefield postions.
"Thinling weapons ain't much good to us. Too fiddly. And too big for the Gnoblars. So we let them little thieves give em' all back using one of their...wotsit wagons. Pointy end first." Cool, a pet gnoblar! He can be named Squisqueek.
Barabas30 Nov 2006
Yea ! I see all your points...
The second idea in mind was to keep the huge map with the zone. Give each players points for defense & offense move. Keep the market to buy unit with their points but instead of an online army fight when two player face themself on a zone it would be their Tyrant that do the battle instead... if their army have less than 30% pts in difference... like a challenge... Let me explain !
Army Point +30% Kyte & Coray are on the Battlefield each in their zone. Kyte make an offence move to take a zone with his 1000pts army facing Coray on the defence that only have 500pts. Both army have more or equal to 30% difference so both army cant fight each other and its a win or die situation since no other tribe is in the area to help Coray. Coray being in a small stronghold is given 200pts for a defence position but he his still over-run by 30%. Result he as lost the zone to Kyte, lost all his army due to war and must back out of the zone to a friendly occupy area.
Army Point -29% Coray having pass some time with is chaos tribes partners in crime have acquire enough points to try and take control of Kyte Zone. Coray now have a 900pts army while Kyte trying to defend his position for some turns now only have an 800pts army (lost 200 due to no supply being brought to him by the Ogre side). Coray make an offense move on the zone. Kyte due to the stronghold on this zone is receiving 200pts putting him at 1000pts. Coray dont care and make the move aniway. Both army can face each other because there is less than 30% difference between both (900pts vs 1000pts). A "Challenge" is given !!!
Challenge Coray have 'Challenge' Kyte on the battlefield. Both tyrant meet in the circle of war and face each other while both army bloody guts themself out upon the battlefield (The fight is only play between Tyrants or single Heroes, that is if one of the two player have gather an Heroe in his army during the campaign). Kyte has 100pts difference over Coray and because of this he is receiving a special ability / weapon / enhancement (only for the fight) of 100pts... that he can buy before the battle. Kyte decide to take a magic weapon for 100pts to face Coray within the circle of war. Both Tyrant face each other.. The winner will take the zone with half of his army... the looser wil be out of the picture and will return to the starting zone of the campaign.
Heroes A player that have gather a Heroe within his army can use him to fight instead of its Tyrant. If the heroe win the challenge.. result is the same as if the Tyrant hade won. If the Heroe is kill than a second match can be order and play with the player Tyrant (Like having 2 chance to win the fight against one opponent).
Circle of war The Tyrants fight is done over a choice of maps (1 of 10). The map is show as a picture for 'both to see and choose' on the Campaign thread of the forum. The picture depict a 9x9 or 12x12 square zone to play on (picture is different depending on the map taken, and squares are mark like a chest game/bingo sheet A1,B3,C6). Rules are the same as within the 'Ogre Gut Olympics' and or 'Punt-A-Runt' etc... Both player choose the fight style offer within the campaign rules and agree to it...
How to play There is alot of way that both players can play the fight. Players can decide to use webcam to roll the dice, play in real life if they can, msn/mail/forum with a third party that roll the dice or use a small free program on the web to be downloaded and roll the dice within it (Have it just need to find the website were I got it ?? Both need to log at the same time tuff with a third party to watch and dm the game).
More ideas to put on the fire !!!
B. Sorry for the trashed english style !!! Mais jmen fou comme l'an 40 carrement sti !!!

Hello there! Great idea dude! I think it could work and be very succeful. A couple of my friends have hordes of chaos armies, so i will be fighting on the side of the ogres!
No one can stand against the might of the ogres! Surrender all others!
ShrewdFulg01 Dec 2006
Barabas, that sounds way more doable. That way I can actually see something working out by online play if the gut olympics/ pit fight rules were used with the respective model's stats. That's a good idea and I've wanted to try out the gut olympics stuff.

wouldn't that give us chaos players a massive numerical advantage? would we need to include another non chaos site as well, or do ou think there's enough 'loyalist' ogres to side with Hragged anddefend the Stronghold?

Barabus came up with some good ideas on how to make it work, as did a few other posters. I don't thnk we actually decided yet though! Maybe it's time to appoint someone to actualy be 'in charge' of this thing and organise us ogres by bellowing us into line!

Well lets see whats missing...
1) Need to built a map with area of concern lets say 50 individual zone on it, with 2 huge zone on each side for entry point & in the 50 zone we would include 8 special zone for people that have other army than Ogre or Ogre Chaos or Chaos. Map will include special area where people can defend few stronghold and tactical emplacements.
2) Need to built a list of what people can buy with the points they acquire following the fluf of the O.K. book.
3) Need to built 10 arena for the boss to fight inside of it (If we go with the post i made way back).
4) Need to built the large map rules and point out the rules refering to the Gut Olympics & Punt-a-Runt (last is for those that want faster play).
5) People start with a heroe, gain points to get bulls, become tyrant, gain point to get unit, face the opposition, try to keep as much stronghold they can. Need to find the ending and what will be declare depending on who win.
Did I miss anything ? B.

That would indeed be a good idea, as Christmas is now over
I'm going to move this over to the campaign section. Campaigns like this only work if the community is interested, so instead of me laying down the law as to how it'll work I'm willing to let you all continue to discuss and plan it for a while and we'll see what we can come up with together
Edit: on second thoughts, there's a rumoured official campaign for summer 2007, see the other topic.
2nd Edit: The Nemesis Crown is indeed the official GW campaign for summer 2007, I've created a new campaign discussion section devoted to it.
Barabas06 Jan 2007
Ive prepare a few maps ! But yea might simply drive this into a home campaign instead of an online one... Aniway the Canadian are making a campaign in february for the coming of the big campaign this summer. They have made a site for it so if anyone is interested. ( http://ca.games-workshop.com/botb.htm )
Might simply drive the campaign we wanted with the same format but make it pure Ogre vs Chaos Ogre. Have a look at the site and send who is interested ???
EDIT: Im preparing a personal contest for the occasion of the GW 2007 campaign will put the detail within the thread linked to it.
