Ogres vs Daemons

original thread ↗

Anyone else have trouble against them? I charge, I bring discipline standards and I use butchers for stubborn...I usually always turn tail and run against them. What am I doing wrong?
Might need a bit more detail.  If it's a regular occurrence, perhaps:

Roughly what army your opponent is using
What your army list looks like

Roughly what happens in the lead up to you turning tail and running.

Unfortunately Daemons are a pretty horrible matchup for us, but I think this is roughly up to date
Most recent result: Victory.  2000pts Ogres w/ Giant vs Skaven.  Giant even crotch-stuffed a Chieftain and Engineer

Aside from the Epidemus abomination of a list, DoC are not too bad.  I have played this matchup from both sides a large number of times and I actually feel Ogres have the edge.  The typical Nurgle stuff can be defeated both at range and up close with overwhelming force.  Magic wise, they have no scroll and their normal clutch spells (Cacophonic, Infernal Gateway) are of limited effect, so stuff Treason and you are usually good there.  Iron Blasters tend to win the shot war with DoC cannons and make life rough for a greater daemon.  Maneaters and MFC are majorly difficult for just about any DoC army to face in combat.

The real issues come in with Great Wall of Nurgle, where someone plops all their core in one PB deathstar unit and backs that up with large beast and fly units.  Character walls with Butchers and SMs can stuff this (immune to poison) and Maneaters can just plain out fight those units.  My favorite SM build (Tricksters Helm, GW, 4++) can block out an entire beast unit by himself, actually.  Really, all you need to do with DoC is gun down the chaff and get position.  Ogre units are faster, better in a prolonged grind out, and generally less expensive than DOC ones, so once the chaff is gone it is usually easy to lock them in and choke them out.

Epidemus changes the whole dynamic, though.  If he is on the table, do not engage until he is dead....
