Monthly Painting Challenge - July 2014.

Well it is officially July. Half of the year is already over. How are you coming along on your painting goals? Lets get started with our...


Just joining in? The idea is, you make a promise to paint and/or build/convert a given number of models at the beginning of the month, and report back with your progress, if and when you manage to complete it. From here on out we will refer to this as your "Pledge"!

The Rules:

• All Pledges will be frozen after the 10th day of the month. There is no changing of *any* pledge after day 10. Pledges are still accepted after the 10th of the month, but they can not be changed once they are made.
• If you finish your pledge, and you would like to really impress the rest of the Stronghold, you can then go on to add a Bonus pledge. Any additions to your pledge made before the 10th go onto your initial pledge and will not count as a Bonus pledge.
• We need to know The number of Models when you post your pledge. 3, 8, 10, or even 100. Saying "A unit" is not acceptable.
• Extra incentive: I will be awarding to those who complete their pledge. I'll also be awarding an extra to the one pledgee who posts the best photos of their pledge throughout the month!

*Please* post the progression of your work (pictures if at all possible). One of the best things about this thread is watching everyone's work come together. It's perfectly fine if you don't post any photos, however. Feel free to make separate posts, and then link into this thread so that others can comment directly in your own thread in the Butchers Cauldron or your Gnoblog.

FAQ
Q: So I can Only do Ogre Kingdoms or GW Minis, for my pledge?
A: No. There isn't anything stopping you from building and/or painting anything you like, however this is the Ogre Stronghold, and we are naturally more excited to see Ogre models. If you're working on one of your other Armies or projects, and/or any other Models, please feel free to make a Pledge.

Q: I need to change my Pledge!
A: well.. You have until the 10th day of the month.

Q: What if I don't have a camera?
A: We operate on the honor system. If you say you did it, we believe you. There may be small prizes awarded for photographic evidence, but you really only get the satisfaction of lying on the internet if you choose to do so.

Q: Will you do one of these every month?
A: That's the goal... We'll do one of these close to the beginning of every month...

Q: What if I finish my pledge but decide to do more?
A: Paint away! If you mean, can you get a head start on next month, I guess so. But it's not as big of an accomplishment  to make a pledge with 75% of the project painted at the start of the month...  That's not to say that sometimes the last 25% of the project your working on is not more than worth being a pledge of its own..

Q. I have not completed my Pledge for the past few months, should I still enter?
A. You bet! The idea behind a painting challenge is to develop some discipline as to what you're going to build or paint. Part of the challenge is to learn what you can complete within a given month, and what you can't. If you find you're not able to complete your pledge for the month, then reduce the size of it.

I skipped last month to try and come back strong after a string of fails. Lets hope that works!

This month I aim to base and paint;

30 Orc boys w/ command
25 Orc arrow boys w/command
10 Black Orcs w/command

Bonus if I get that done; Orc warboss and a random conversion using greenstuff.

Job done. Best get on with it

This is my first painting challenge but I'm aiming for:

Finishing 6 bulls
Finishing 6 guts

Bonus if I get that done. 2 MC

Right my Pledge:

1. Finish my stonehorn head (again)
2. Paint my special addition Bruiser (one with pistols, he will be a maneater).

Both my first pledge and first real attempt to paint any miniatures:

-6 bulls assembled, converted (ie made "piratey"), and painted.

If done early I'd like to start on/finish 4 leadbelchers.

A simple pledge for me this month, just a few test models for my burgeoning skaven horde. One slave, one plague monk, and one storm vermin.

Coming along.

This month I plan to:
Convert a Heavens Slaughtermaster.
Paint a Firebelly
Convert 4 Leadbelchers (if the parts arrive in time)

Assemble and paint:
4 Leadbelchers
6 Ironguts

Less ambitious pledge this month since I will be on travel for some of it.

4 Mourngang Cav
4 Rhinox Riders (or Mournfang if I buy some more)

after having a tragic accident with a paintbrush involving the death of around 20 ork boys ive decided to aim to finish the green tide. or at least get a healthy chunk of it out the way.  last month saw me building and baseing around 70 boyz, it went realy well and i even got the first squad finished off, but as disaster struck a whole squad ended up in the bin. ive been working on finishing off the other 50 whitch are now mostly complited. so for this month i figured i would replenish the casualtys in the horde.

finish the first squad of 50 boys
build and paint up another 20
build and base 30 extra boyz

bring on the green paint

right after failing last month i have loads to do!

firebelly x2
ironblaster x2 (maybe just basecoated)
BSB (temp)
5 ironguts
4 bulls
Tyrant (temp)

cant fail this month as i have a tournament at the end of it!

this is all i have left to do this month. get in

Zolas; I have to say it, and I am sure I have said it before, I love the skin on your ogres, not only the colour but the way you paint them. They just look really brilliant. I can't wait to see this guy finished and joining the ranks of an already well painted army. Keep up the great work.

I think procrastination is the root cause of your trouble. I expect to see a pic of the base coat at least on one of your models by tomorrow

You'll be lucky! I dont finish work until 16:00 UK. Mind you, how long would it take to undercoat 1 model....if only i could just stop posting replies to everyone on the Stronghold then i would have so much more time for painting...but then you would all be deprived of my witty banter!

Great work everyone! It's really inspiring to return to the Stronghold when there's such an abundance of awesome models and Gnoblogs to check up on!

Still little details to do on individual models, but practically done painting them. Got a bonus Ironblaster done too! Pretty productive month I must say, especially with having a week off for honeymoon!

Pheww, with literally only hours left of the month I finished the challenge.

Sadly did not finish my pledge.  Shame on me.  Lack of self motivation and fatigue.
