New uniformed Ogre theme

original thread ↗

Hey guys

Im right now in the process of rethinking a theme for an Ogre army.
I have been through all the different categories and need a bit of help.

I dont wanna do pirates, arabian ogres. I like the uniformity of the Clan McThundergut, so I have decided I want them to have uniforms.

What I need from you guys is brainstorming. What would be an awesome uniformed theme?

Hi Jim,
I was toying around with the idea of Civil War Ogres.  I decided to go a different direction and wouldn't mind at all if you took that idea.
Hi Jim

Don't know if it's helpful but I have a few (perhaps too many) random suggestions. Romans, celts, ancient greeks, sioux. WW1 germans or british...

Matt
Hmm... Indians... bamboo armour and feathers.
That just might work.

thx

Idea's? oh boy, right here we go;

Zulu's (black guys with savage orc style shields and spears)
Star Trek (you know it makes sense!)
Star Wars (cummon, you could do it...each character could be recreated in ogre form)

Ok, so we have strayed from uniforms;

Civil war confederates
Nazi's (controversial but still doable...SS style uniforms leather trench coats etc)
Buffalo Soldiers (a Rastafarian ogre army...it would look so good)
300 (again it would be so easy to do them Spartans and ogres lend themselves to it so well!)
Beefeaters/ Royal Guard (big fluffy black hats and red uniforms...they would stand out!)
A police force (woop woop it's da sound of da police! Pick a force and make 'em)
Canadian Mounties (big pants!)
Circus Freaks (you know this one would be cool...everyone hates clowns; they just look so sinister)
Native Americans/ Australians/ Eskimo's/ Maoris (the tattoos would be a challenge for the latter)
Shaolin monks (a sea of orange, burgundy and yellow...devout ogres; wax on wax off!)
Geisha (not afraid to go female...then go geisha!)
Samurai (not as exciting as other options, but still an option)
DPM (could always go camo...would be fun to paint at least)

Is that enough ideas?

Monty Python!!  Oh, yes go Monty python, that would be good!
Or 80's metal ogres! They could all have mullets, leather jackets and white hi-tops!
or Hip Hop! Why not go Run DMC or NWA ogres! That would look good; Ogres in track suits and bucket hats!

To be honest I could keep doing this for hours...I wont, but I easily could  :D

haha G_H you have pretty much just summed up what happens in my head when i feel like converting xD so many ideas !!!!

I think ogre uniforms is an amazing idea and G_H has covered pretty much all of them as a HUGE star trek/star wars fan of course i would love to see that but if you are trying to make it so that they would still fit in the warhammer world then those arent really an option (its only logical [sorry i couldnt help myself])

An idea that popped into my head was to green-stuff t-shirts on them and paint them as the blue t-shirts that games workshop staff wear (with the GW logo on and everything) with the champions of each unit wearing the managers black t-shirt (unless your local stores have a different t-shirt colour system) and each unit can be a different store xD would be a great conversation starter and the look on a member of GW staff's face would be PRICELESS to say the least (you know its true)

Star Trek would be a riot.  Those units of 3 Bull chaff units...you know they need red shirts.
This is why I love brainstorming. Its productive, It's way out there but most of all its great fun.

Thx guys  :D

Actually, I don't see why Star Trek wouldn't work...you don't have to put phazers in their hands or anything. It's just the uniform.

The GW staff would work especially for tarpit units; units that are designed to slow you down by constantly trying to flog you the latest shiny new thing "and do you want some glue and paint brushes with that?".

Simpsons? That would work too...don't actually make the characters but ogres that resemble them. I am currently working on some Monkey Magic Maneaters (see Gnoblog) but there are not enough of these for an actual army.

What about Asterix the Gaul?

There are loads of comic books you could go with; X-men being the most obvious.
Horror films; so many characters to choose from like Pinhead, Leatherface, Jigsaw, Dracula, Frankenstein's monster (or Adam as his name actually is, Jason, Freddy etc etc

Strayed from uniforms again though...sorry!
Still like Monty Python. I saw an entire empire army done out like the Holy Grail once....it was absolutely awesome. Ogres would look just as good.

In the end I would be tempted to go Confederates....Ohhh, or Sharpe (with Sean Bean) them uniforms were pretty cool.

What about different units of service personnel? That would be cool! You could have a unit of postmen, a unit of chefs, a unit of refuse workers, coal miners, Milkmen, Nurses & Dr's, any service industry in fact! The more points the unit costs the higher up the social ladder it could be Maccy D's workers as bulls and Judges as Maneaters! That would be a cool army!

I am stopping now...like I said before, I could go on. And like The Executor; this is the kind of stuff that swirls around in my head every time I pick up a model....  :P
