Captain Urga's Howdy-doo, Hey, and Hello

original thread ↗

Hello everyone long time prowler of these boards and I finally took the plunge to join!

I have been playing Warhammer (mostly fantasy but some 40k,Battlefleet Gothic, Inquisitor, etc) since the age of High-Flying and the introduction of the Chaos Dwarfs. Oddly enough, with the exception of a unit from this army or that, I have never truly had a full blown assembled, converted, and painted army! I have only ever played with family and friends and we typically just "proxied".

Ever since the release of the Ogre Kingdoms I always found myself drawn to them, they are comical, characterful, and in small enough numbers that I felt I could spend a bit of time on each model so that they would look as good as I would want them to. On top of that, the fact that they can essentially be a clean slate with which every single collector is able to have a lot of wriggle room to make them their own has been a huge draw to them for me.

Reading through their first book my thoughts instantly went to them making awesome pirates in the Warhammer world (I know, not that creative anymore hehe  :P) with their wanderlust, mercenary streak, gunpowder, etc. and decided to model my Ogre tribe as pirates. Thus, the concept of the Ogre's of Togretuga was formed!

For anyone who managed through my monologue thank you for your patience and pleased to meet you! I hope to be able to contribute to this forum as a payment for all the priceless knowledge, ideas, and amusement I have gotten from it  :D
Looking forward to seeing your pirates.
Minds are like parachutes. They work best when open.
Hi Captain Urga, welcome to the stronghold! :)

Matt
Thanks guys for the welcome! :) I always knew this to be an extremely helpful and friendly place! I am finishing up assembling the rest of my second battalion box and once I try my luck with some greenstuff (my first attempts at using it) I hope to start a gnoblog!
Well hello there and welcome to the forum.

Ogres do indeed seem to fit with the pirate theme and to that end there are some very good "pirate esq" conversions and models to be found around and about the forum. These may give you some inspiration and ideas for converting your own force.
You could try by starting with Michael Johns Gnoblog;

A Gnoblog is the best way to document not only the process of your army build, but also all the games you are sure to win against the lesser thinling realms. Feel free to start your own!

Can't wait to see you army progress, once again welcome to the OS
