Deamonbreaker Tribe Gnoblog

After saying hello in the Bellowing Hall and looking for army list advice in Armies of the Kingdoms I made the trip to my local GW last night and picked up a Firebelly, and Ogre Battalion and two boxes of Mournfangs. I guess I’d better start a Gnoblong. I get at least as much out of hobbling as I do from playing and I’m really looking forward to painting my Tribe.

Last night I washed all the sprues with warm water and a toothbrush (lol, anal) and did my basing. I’m hoping to get more or less everything built this afternoon.

Sounds like you've picked up a nice mix to start off with Were you planning to kitbash/convert any of battalion to character models? There's some amazing inspiration on here.

I probably should have done that. Haven't painted in so long that didn't even occur to me. Can scratch off the paint with a fingernail :S

Most of the time it's not necessary Matt but as I said - I can get a bit anal and it only takes two minutes.

Have you tried varnishing? That might help your paint stay in place. A can of Purity Seal from GW won't change the colours you've painted and should help the paint stay. Easy to apply too...

Are there any threads that would especially pop to mind when you're talking about battalion box conversions?

That is true, but I had a can of purity seal that was obviously a bit dodgy and left my models with a light white coating. Safe to say I was massively annoyed!

^ that was probably to do with either spraying on too much / too close or spraying during high humidity. That or it could have been a duff can.

The last one is the gallery which is just crammed with amazing conversions. I've never had the problem with paint on plastic scratching before so only used varnish on metal models. Seems like a worthwhile idea though I think it might be because I'm using Vallejo paints which are thinner.

Excellent start with the basing there, looking forward to seeing this army start to come together.

I have to say that I have never washed sprus (unless you mean Finecast, which is different) before. I can't for the life of me see what the point would be? In over 10,000+ models I have never had any where the paint has come off. Each to their own I guess.

There are loads of conversion pics etc about here, but it might be easier for people to chip in if you have a theme for your army and needed a specific idea for a conversion (a Pirate Butcher, Spider loving tyrant etc).

Over the rest of the weekend I'm going to:

• assemble the riders for the Mournfang
• liquid greenstuff and greenstuff some of the gaps (especially those back gaps behind the arms)
• If I'm really lucky get the bases primed black and the miniatures primed grey

I've got my first real game of WHFB on Sunday afternoon - 1000 points against high elves. The guy I'm playing is a tournament regular and High Elves are his signature race so I hope he goes easy on me.

Thanks for looking. I'll be up to my elbows in Liquid Greenstuff and Kneadite for the rest of the day. I'm hoping to break out the airbrush and spray some primer before the game tomorrow. The bases will be primed Vallejo black and the Ogres will be Vallejo grey.

All hail photobucket !!! Seriously though models are looking great cant wait to see them painted ! And when it comes to making characters from the kits the armour from the mournfang kits comes in very handy such as the helmeted heads and the chainmail arms aswell as the ogre pistol , so using those parts to make a stand in tyrant (who can later become bruiser / maneater when you get more bits to mess around with) is relatively simple to pull off , as most people will tell you though getting a bsb in there is pretty important for us ogres but you may want to wait until you have lots of cool bits before you make one at the end of the day though its your army and you should make it how you want ^_^

BSB is a must, but as TE has already said; the more kits you buy the more bits you get and that makes stuff easier to convert and look half decent.
Betallion boxes, Mournfang, Stoney/ 'tusk boxes all have loads of great spare bits. So too does the giant kit if you ever get one.
Failing that, a pleading request to stronghold members will often result in the generosity of others bestowing bits upon you. Were good like that

Game against High Elves tonight. Big block of Phoenix Guard with FC, Banner of the World Dragon and a level 2 on High and a level 3 on Shadow in the front. 3 units of 5 Reavers. Got totally stomped. He Miasma'd and Mindrazored both the Mournfang and the Ironguts with the Phoenix Guard which was totally brutal. Game over after that really. As I type this out I remember I had a Scroll on the Firebelly and I really should have used that to dispel the Mindrazor.

The Firebelly was pretty great at evaporating the Reavers with Fireballs. The Leadbelchers were pretty funny (rolled 18 shots from 3 of them 2 turns in a row).

I feel at this level I could have really done with the Butcher on Maw for buffs instead of the belly. He had 5 levels to my 2 and I felt that I really didn't have much of a say in the magic phase.

Cant wait to see the brush hit these fellas. You could not have picked a better collection of bode to start with either, thats a very very good mix to not only give you variety but also a fearsome force on the tabletop.
