Offswitch's Gnoblog. Now with pictures of full painted army.
Had the army for about a year and a half now but since it's paintjob is coming on I might aswell do one of these blog things. If only to keep onto my status as top ogre in aberdeen. Screw you Tenderheart!
The army will be themed around a group of ogres on the rampage through the empire so I'm going for a purple and yellow theme like the one from Ostermark except I'm calling it OsterMaw because I'm such a comedy bastard.
Anyway first up is my slaughtermaster who will be using heavens
Really? Is this really what we are talking about?
Offswitch18 Mar 2014
Next up is the first of my ironblasters. Needs more gnoblars and fancy bits before it gets painted but I'm looking forward to it. Just getting the footsloggers out the way first
And here is a unit of those footsloggers. The bases still need finished and the lookout gnoblar nest is missing but it'll all be sorted out towards the end.
This is my BSB.Converted using bull and mournfang bits!
And the first of my maneaters. Brute Lee. My unit of maneaters won't have many conversions as I really like the standard games workshop ones. They're among the best models they do.
In the process of painting Golfag for a maneater champion and the pirate maneater.

This looks like a really good, sound solid start to your army; I am liking your BSB and the Maneater really stands out.
Keep up the good work and keep them pictures coming.

Thanks for the kind words. Keeps me motivated!
Finished all the work on another Maneater. Yar. Favourite part about this was painting the little gnoblar parrot on his shoulder. Maneaters have so much character I'd probably field them even if they weren't the most kickass unit in the book!
You may have noticed how the picture quality isn't that good and the models bases are not finished. Well I'm waiting until every model is painted before doing the bases along with their movement trays. The proper pictures will be posted when that is done.
Really? Is this really what we are talking about?

You really are!
Look really great. I've always loved the Ostermark colours, and you've pulled them off far better than most Can't wait to see Maw (sorry, had to!)

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.
And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.

Are you going to use only GW maneater models or will you convert your own?
I look very much forward to see some paint on the heavens butchers. Also, can you provide another picture of the ironguts? The skin painting looks awesome.
Keep it up!

Thank you very much. I have one converted maneater which is bragg the gutsmans as the standard bearer. I also have the limited edition bruiser with pistol as one which I feel very lucky to own.
But here is a tank.
It's not too heavily modified because they have only had it for a short time and the theft will actually result in the empire chasing down my warband of ogres and slaying them all to get it back. This is because all the best stories have an ending and the fact in my tournament scene if you are doing well and are in risk of getting an awesome prize [like a freaking steam tank] chances are you'll play one of the top two players who both have empire and will kill my army to a man.
Really? Is this really what we are talking about?

Great work. Often, to me, the models do not always need heavy conversion as long as the paint job is good and shows the intention with the model which is the case here. I like the worn out paint job

Thanks! Glad you like them!
Been spending alot of time painting but time is bearing down on me so I will probably not be posting anymore pictures for a wee while. Fed up of painting this evening though so gonna do a quick summary of my recent games.
The goal is to get this list painted for a 2500pt 32 man tournament in the town of stirling in Scotland!
Heavens Slaughtermaster
Bruiser bsb
Firebelly
Butcher
Two units of seven ironguts
Seven maneaters
3 sabretusks
2 Ironblasters
Practice games have been going pretty well. In fact too well.
Game One- Dave's New Vampire Counts.
A mostly on foot vampire counts army centered around a bus of skeletons with a blender lord, banshee and some necromancers. There are some more necromancers in some zombie blocks behind the lines and a unit of crypt horrors and a unit of ten hexwraiths.
It looks hard and I haven't used my ogres for about seven months so when deploying I'm getting that steering wheel isn't quite attached feeling you get. I've also been using daemons so I'm wary of panic tests and all the horrible things that happen with them. I deploy my army towards the corner with the BSB and slaughtermaster in one unit, the hellheart butcher in the other one and the firebelly in the maneaters.
Not alot happens in the early game in terms of movement other than the vampires running across the board at me. I push my hellheart unit towards his lines. The firebelly doesn't get his magic missiles through so the hexwraiths bear down on me, my iron blaster kills a crypt horror but he gets raised back and my other iroblaster's cannon breaks. Guess he's just a T6 chariot now. How rubbish!!!
The mid game is where it gets interesting. My hellheart unit gets charged in the front by the horrors and in the flank by the vampire bus. The hexwriaths are right in front of my maneaters positioned for a flank charge into my mini gutstar [another name for a mini gutstar is 'an irongut unit']. The hellheart goes off, hits four out of the five wizards, kills two of them and ends the magic phase with all the lost dice. The unit gets battered but doesn't get run down in combat. In my turn after this I charge his hexwraiths completely relying on getting firecloak off in order to kill them. I use my sabretusk to block his vampire bus from getting into my battleline. I don't get fire cloak off but I do cast comet next to his hexwraiths. They lose combat but I hold thanks to stubborn.
In his next turn the vampire bus charges the sabretusk, he fails his terror test due to the banshee in the unit and he redirects into my gutstar. This is worrying as blender vampire lords tend to blend things. Thankfully in his magic phase my comet comes down and kills all ten hexwraiths in one go aswell as some zombies and a unit of direwolves. Yeah heavens is awesome. In the big combat the vampire lord is forced into hitting my tank of a slaughtermaster and doesn't kill him. The units start to grind each other down.
In the end game my ironblaster charges into his bus's flank and kills the necromancer, the horrors kill the irongut unit and while the slaughtermaster goes down to the vampire his unit eventually crumbles taking him out with him. Last turn sees my maneaters kill his crypt ghouls for a strong victory for myself.
I relearn how awesome ogres can be and how much of a problem ethereals can be. I was lucky they didn't hurt me more.
Game 2Dave's New New Vampire list
Having the maiden voyage of his new army be unsuccessful Dave has rejigged it to have a ghoul king and a unit of ghouls, two mortis engines and a unit of graveguard .
I sit back for this game as he has nothing to force me to come to him. By turn two I kill one mortis engine with my iron blaster but don't really achieve anything with magic other than killing a unit of dogs. I manage to get a combo charge with both my irongut units into his graveguard unit about turn two and between the smacking from the ogres and the crumbling I kill him ito a man. This doesn't appear to be a problem as I have my sabretusk blocking his ghouls unit with vampire from getting a flank charge. Dem be tactics. Me smart.
My maneaters with firebelly charge into his crypt horrors and as the flaming impact hit wounded him the rest of the unit crumbled in one turn. I overrun to escape the flank charge of his vampire unit though it does have a sabretusk blocking it so I wasn't in any major danger anyway but you've got to play it safe.
His turn and it starts with the mortis engine killing the sabre tusk and letting the ghoul unit with vampire charge the flank of my character bunker. [fuckity fuck] If I had killed one more graveguard I wouldn't have been in this situation which is rather annoying. This sees the start of a grind with sees the hellheart go off and stop another magic phase and my bunker unit wiped out aswell as my maneaters when they charged in later on. Models are dying from miscast explosions and flame cages and the other mortis engines bubble effect when the ironblasters kill it.
At the end of the massive combat the ghouls king comes out beaten and bruised with only a few of his fellow ghouls alive but he is victorious. At the end of his turn six he has secured himself an 11-9 victory.
Only I went second so I put two cannon shots into his stupid maneater killing face to change the outcome of the game to a 12-8 victory for myself. I'm that skilled.
Things to note from this game. Never ever ever ever put maneaters into ghouls. That is a bad idea.
Game 3- Conor's High Elf army.
This army has alot of my biggest weakness with my build- high BS shooting; two units of archers, four bolthrowers, a unit of sisters and a shadow mage. The combat in this army comes from two units of 28 white lions. There is a few eagles and reavers running around aswell.
I've ran at this army before it hurts at short range so I decided to play defensively so if his shooting does damage me beyond repair then at least he can't charge me to get all the points off the units. So I deploy my maneaters in hard cover in the center of the board and my units of ironguts to their right. He's got his units of white lions facing my irons guts and his sisters and archers facing my maneaters. The bolt throwers are spread out along his lines. Am I hell going to walk into that.
Again nothing much to say about this other than how cagey I was. I got a comet down which wiped out his sister unit and a bolt thrower while also damaging his wizard bunker on turn one and another which finished off the bunker in turn three I believe. His shooting at long range didn't really hurt me much. Lost about three ironguts I think but by about turn three he had very little of it left so he ended up running his white lions towards me. A combo charge from the two ironguts to the front and an ironblaster to the side absolutely smashed one unit of them. Conner didn't have a lot of luck in the magic phase which combined with losing his wizard to a cannonball the turn before meant I got harmonic convergence off on all three of my combat units aswell as iceshard onto the white lions. I nailed about ten from impact hits alone and managed to kill all 28 of them in a round. Harmonic convergence is brutal on ironguts. I overrun out of the arc of his other white lion unit and the rest of the game was just me getting a few more points from shooting.
I didn't lose a unit. Not even my sabretusks.......
I liked how heavens gave me the option to stay back in this one. With my fireballs and comets aswell as the cannons and maneater pistols I can get a good few points at range without risking any myself. Also the fact all my characters have great weapons means I have nothing to worry from the banner of the world dragon. That unit I pulverised apparently had it and I never even knew it. Wasn't the nastiest of high elf armies but I feel the same tactic of casting a big fireball and a comet in the same turn while hanging back will work against most high elf builds.
Game 4-Dave's New new new Vampire Counts army
Dave has given in after my killing of his hobby in the last two games and he played the knight bus. It had no easy cannon targets so I aim ten from the back of his vampire lord and kill him turn one. I'm ace.
Game 5-Dave's New new new Vampire counts army again.
I might play with the wisdom and ferocity of a vengeful god but I am really a forgiving one so I told Dave to keep his vampire on the table and continue. His bus actually makes it into combat with my unimportant units of guts before the hellheart goes off and causes two cascades on the bus killing a vampire hero and 15 black knights leaving the vampire lord and the wight king. They still kill the unit but are promptly cannoned off. I'm ace.

Just about to start painting some ogre bulls as I just can't fit in a second good sized unit of guts into 2250pts; the size of army for my next tournament in the middle of may.
I am cheating though and will be using the command models from one of my gut units so I only have to paint four rather than seven. I am impressed by how many bodies you get for so many points but I am worried about high armour saves really wrecking that units day. Overall though I am optimistic about how it will preform in a more elf dominated meta.
