Would a LOTR Mumak make a good Thundertusk conversion?

As a complete green stuff novice I wondered what people thought of a mumak as a thundertusk.

Years ago picked up a mumak from ebay and have never used it. Would be nice to give it some purpose and hopefully end up with a cool ogre conversion at the end.

Is this perhaps a little too adventurous as a first attempt with green stuff?

Or just any suggestions would be gratefully received!

It would make a fantastic Thundertusk conversion! I have often considered doing this myself, but the price of the Mumak has put me off.

Greenstuffing is all about practice. The more you do it the better you get at it. It is that simple. Take some loose or unused ogres and practice on them. Failing that, bang into any toy shop and buy up some of them uber cheap plastic dinosaurs that they sell for kids and practice on them.

I would say with the Mumak; If you have one, I would go for it!

Do the research on GS and google youtube videos. Loads of advice out but there is a 'knack' to it that once you find you will have confidence to do all sorts.

1st golden rule to rule them all: Make small amounts!

That and patience - do something good? let it dry and cure before you mess it up!

Thanks for the excellent advice, I'll pick up some green stuff/milliput and get practicing. Will probably start with something smaller and try converting a butcher or maneater.

As much as I've watched youtube tacticals and battle reports weirdly never thought about green stuff. Found some good videos now though!

That's tremendously helpful thank you. Was going to try modelling a stomach to go over where the gutplate should be but that gives me a much better starting point.

Thanks K. I'd looked but couldn't find a thread specifically about it with pics. I like the thundertusk model but that conversion is really impressive. The mumak is obviously bigger but don't think it's a problem.

So long as it's on a monster base (the same as the Stoney or 'tusk) then it is game legal.

We have to remember you are talking about two different things here; rules and modelling.

Rules state the base size and painting & Modelling allow you to be creative. The two things are kind of separate. (within reason obviously).

The best way I was told to understand this is; for a 40k Ork army you can have an upgrade called "red paint job". It makes vehicles move further by another inch. If you pay for it in the rules, then you have it.

Does the model have to have a red paint job? No. For my army blue counted as red. I payed the points so I have the upgrade, the painting and modelling of my army was a different thing altogether.
