Firebelly

Picked one of these up earlier today, thought it would make a good Firebelly:



But I found out the legs are far too skinny to make a good Ogre..



A bit of conversion work and Ogre parts made this, my new Firebelly!

Also thinking of possibly redoing the tribal patterns on my firebelly, I think the idea is nice but I don't think I've executed it well enough.

Aaaand I'm back! HUGE thanks to Zolas and Slayith for voting for me in the Gnoblog of the Month competition! You're now like my favourite people ever.

Anyways, I've done a test thing. I re-read my old Ogre book, and was kinda inspired by the oldschool Grey skin. I did grey ogres before, but they turned out awful. So I tried again on my Slaughtermaster, starting with a mix of Codex Grey with a tiny bit of Tallarn Flesh, then building up until nearly pure Bleached Bone for the highlights.
Here's the big guy, bear in mind he is very very much a WIP:





I might continue with this skin for the rest of my Ogres, what do you guys think? If I don't, I'll keep him and put his odd skin down to his ingestion of certain unsavoury foods...

Looks good so far.  Blood is particularly awesome.  I like the mace too where did you get it from?

I've been busy...
I recieved a huge heap of Ogres! This included an oldschool Giant, from which I converted an Ironblaster! It's not the most original of ideas, but here he is. It's still a WIP, like the blob of green stuff on the Ogre's spear, but you get the idea.

Superb conversion! Whilst you say it's not overly original, it is the first of it's kind I have seen! I really like it The only suggestion I would make is that the hand on the side of the cannon needs to be holding a strap or something. It seems a little odd, and as though the cannon is just positioned there, as opposed to being held

That aside, brilliant! Can't wait to see it painted!

Anyway, here's more, just in time for the end of the month! I really need to get some better pictures tomorrow, my models are pulling their usual trick of being ridiculously anti-photogenic.

Anyway, the Firebelly has been changed. I've sculpted him better, it may not be clear in the photos but his skin is a lot smoother which makes for a better paintjob.





But as some of you noticed, he's really hard to rank up! The solution: Bug. A Gnoblar who got too big for his boots, balancing on scrap to look (in his opinion) as threatening as his Ogre idols!



And now the ranking problem is fixed.

Those Gnoblars... kinda like the duct tape of the Ogre world. Fixes any problem!

Work on a new Maneater: Bog Squigeater.

Bog is a Maneater, who has a reputation around the Badlands as a popular mercenary for Orc tribes. When he offered his service to the famously brutish Warboss Bagga, the Orc thought it amusing to "hire" Bog as an entertainer, throwing him into a pit with a starving pack of Mangler Squigs. The toothy grin was wiped off Bagga's face when Bog proceeded to beat each of the squigs on the head with a bone, and then devour the beasts in front of the entire tribe. Since that day he has become rich serving Orc tribes, and strides into battle wearing Black metal and a Greataxe from Bagga's personal armoury.

Three Maneaters very nearly finished. Fluff to come.

Brilliant firebellies! Excellent maneaters! Is that a horse? An army marches on its stomach is so very true with ogres.

Played against Orcs and Goblins in a small 1500pts skirmish - lost.. again 
My list was along the lines of

Firebelly General
          -Dispel Scroll, Great Weapon
Bruiser BSB
           -GW, Heavy Armour
7 Bulls
           -Ironfists, Bellower
6 Bulls
           -Ironfists, Bellower
6 Ironguts
           -Standard of Discipline, Bellower
4 Mournfangs
           -Bellower, Ironfists, Heavy Armour
Ironblaster

He had a Doom Diver, a Rock Lobba, 7 Trolls, 2 Wolf Chariots, and 2 large blocks of Night Goblins, one spears and one bows.
Turn one, I moved everything up. Firebelly burned 2 trolls with Fireball, having got off the 3D6 version. My Ironblaster then misfired, as it does every freaking game. Luckily I only got the lurch one.
He killed a Mournfang with shooting, and charged the small Ogre unit with a Chariot, and the large one with Trolls. The Chariot killed an Ogre with Impact hits, then was destroyed. Trolls were wounded twice, did two wounds in return.
Another Goblin Wolf Chariot redirected my Mournfangs away from the Bow Goblins, but luckily I could close the door and switch to the Spear ones. The unit of 6 Bulls who destroyed the Wolf Chariot also charged this block. I kill nearly 20 goblins with my Mournfangs and my Bulls, and pass every save in return My ironguts are still faffing around in the middle of the field.
My ironblaster fires again, but screws up the shot, killing two goblins. Fireball kills 8.
He then destroys my Ironblaster with a Rock Lobba and a Doom Diver. He charges my Ironguts with my Wolf Chariot, and my Mournfangs with another block of Goblins. Two Ironguts die to impact hits, and a third to Goblin attacks from the Chariot. I manage to win combat by 1, and avoid breaking and getting overrun, as I always do. The Goblin combat goes on, I lose 1 Mournfang, and two bulls, killing nearly 15 goblins across the units. The Troll combat goes on again, doing two wounds each.
My Ironguts charge into the Bow Goblins in combat with my Mournfangs, Firebelly's breath attack doing a large amount of damage.
The combats go on, until finally my Bulls defeat the Trolls, my Mournfangs die, my Bulls break and escape the Goblins, and my Ironguts-Firebelly unit is overrun. I lose the game on Turn 6 by a clear 600-700 points.

Seriously, I can never win against OnG.

Ouch such a close game!  Loosing 2 Ironguts to 1 set of impact hits ouch!  Nasty stuff.  And the Ironblaster well they do what they do don't they?!

Look like it was a fun game though!  Sure you will get a win against OnG soon buddy.

Thank you! Liquid greenstuff (hope it works), paints, and a Stonehorn-sized base are on order at the moment, so should arrive tomorrow. Can't wait to paint this.

Liquid greenstuff (if you have never used it before) shrinks allot as it dries. This is not a problem as such, but like I say if you have never used it, expect some shrinkage. If you are planning to fill big gaps with it then I would humbly suggest you don't bother and use proper greenstuff.

Liquid greenstuff is very useful for making things "textured" and adding stuff to bases (although GW sell textured basing stuff now...) and it can give an excellent decayed effect to things. Equally it will fill small gaps and cover badly prepared mould lines, air bubbles etc. That's my experience of it anyway.

Thanks for the tips Gnoblar, it seemed to work well for filling in small gaps.

Progress - WIP shot of the paintjob on this thing. The new GW Technical "Nihlakh Oxide" is absolutely astounding. It's thicker than a wash, and more "clingy", so it covers a gutplate or whatever fully in one coat. It's perfect for getting that blue copper-y rust (is it rust?) on metals.

I love this concept, and I love this model. It is looking awesome. I have also just got this Ni- oxide thing, but have yet to use it, so it should be interesting; looking at the results you have there it should be really good. I believe the term for this oxidization of copper is called verdigris (though the spelling could be wrong).

I can't wait to see this model finished, it is that good that I am really enthused to build one myself. As an aside; what were you using the liquid green stuff for? I ask because I was wondering if it was for the Mur...well what-ever the elephant thing is called. Before I invest I would be keen to know the highs and lows of building this beast.

Looking good! The new oxide wash is top notch for sure, I use it all the time. It was easy to make before but it just takes more time than its worth to just buy it.

- I think if I was to do this I would cover the entire model in greenstuff and make it furry. Only because my theme is highlands/mountains. I could see this going sososo well with a meadowlands, grasslands, desert theme. Like I said, looking great so far, looking forward to more.

The Liquid greenstuff was used for gap-filling, gaps which were partly my own fault for not holding the model long enough and tight enough so it came apart slightly before it set (the Mumak comes in two massive halves, which you clip together)
And yeah, I'm doing more of a grassland theme now so I didn't think it'd need fur (plus fur would take forever and my GS skills aren't top-notch)

Highs and lows of the Mumak model:
Highs: Aweseome, easily converted, well-sculpted in most areas, really big!
Lows: In some areas the sculpt isn't great, it's clearly modelling putty with lines cut into it with a knife.

I had the idea of doing something like this too(but with fur) but the prizetag kept me from buying it. Had I found one at 50% I'd have been all over it!

Very nice indeed! I have always had plans to use the Mumak for a Warhammer conversion (namely a War Mammoth for my WoC), but seeing it done so well just makes me want to go out and buy one now!
