Monthly Painting Challenge - May 2014

It's already MAY?! Time for the...


Just joining in? The idea is, you make a promise to paint and/or build/convert a given number of models at the beginning of the month, and report back with your progress, if and when you manage to complete it. From here on out we will refer to this as your "Pledge"!

The Rules:

• All Pledges will be frozen after the 10th day of the month. There is no changing of *any* pledge after day 10. Pledges are still accepted after the 10th of the month, but they can not be changed once they are made.
• If you finish your pledge, and you would like to really impress the rest of the Stronghold, you can then go on to add a Bonus pledge. Any additions to your pledge made before the 10th go onto your initial pledge and will not count as a Bonus pledge.
• We need to know The number of Models when you post your pledge. 3, 8, 10, or even 100. Saying "A unit" is not acceptable.
• Extra incentive: I will be awarding to those who complete their pledge. I'll also be awarding an extra to the one pledgee who posts the best photos of their pledge throughout the month!

*Please* post the progression of your work (pictures if at all possible). One of the best things about this thread is watching everyone's work come together. It's perfectly fine if you don't post any photos, however. Feel free to make separate posts, and then link into this thread so that others can comment directly in your own thread in the Butchers Cauldron or your Gnoblog.

FAQ
Q: So I can Only do Ogre Kingdoms or GW Minis, for my pledge?
A: No. There isn't anything stopping you from building and/or painting anything you like, however this is the Ogre Stronghold, and we are naturally more excited to see Ogre models. If you're working on one of your other Armies or projects, and/or any other Models, please feel free to make a Pledge.

Q: I need to change my Pledge!
A: well.. You have until the 10th day of the month.

Q: What if I don't have a camera?
A: We operate on the honor system. If you say you did it, we believe you. There may be small prizes awarded for photographic evidence, but you really only get the satisfaction of lying on the internet if you choose to do so.

Q: Will you do one of these every month?
A: That's the goal... We'll do one of these close to the beginning of every month...

Q: What if I finish my pledge but decide to do more?
A: Paint away! If you mean, can you get a head start on next month, I guess so. But it's not as big of an accomplishment  to make a pledge with 75% of the project painted at the start of the month...  That's not to say that sometimes the last 25% of the project your working on is not more than worth being a pledge of its own..

Q. I have not completed my Pledge for the past few months, should I still enter?
A. You bet! The idea behind a painting challenge is to develop some discipline as to what you're going to build or paint. Part of the challenge is to learn what you can complete within a given month, and what you can't. If you find you're not able to complete your pledge for the month, then reduce the size of it.

After JUST scraping through my first pledge i am determined to do much better this month.

3 bulls, 2 leaddies and 2 kitties........judging by my progress thus far, im far over-reaching myself here

Just going to keep this pledge small and simple as my work is going to be really busy this month with a massive move from 2 hospitals into 1 big newly built hospital.

I need to paint 9 maneaters (8 are already started, one is for the executor), then build and paint 4 ogres and an ironblaster.

Got my AS exams this month so my hobby time will be severely dimminished so its just a small  pledge this mo th , I pledge to Finnish painting the gnoblar pulling the basket of heads to accompany theviking's model for the paint n trade event depending on how I end up allocating time for revision and what not this may increase

edit: realised how small this pledge actually is , gunna add some more to it , so in addition to painting the accompanying basket of heads i will also be painting the base of both this and the main model as i have bought the appropriate colour to fit into theviking's army , i will also be painting 1 empire witch hunter for my "turning friends into models" thread

I've also got a big move to a new apartment ahead of me. So most of my time will unfortunately be taken up by packing the place up before the end of the month.

However, I'll start off with something simple and relatively quick: Basing. I've purposefully left the basing un-finished, as I wasn't sure of what I'd be going for. The Hunter competition did change this though, as I settled for a snowy plains look So the plan is to base the rest of the army to match the Hunter:
1 Firebelly
6 Bulls
6 Ironguts
4 Leadbelchers

If I find time I might go for a bonus pledge as well

Well, it's been too long since I've done a pledge. I think if I complete this one, it'll be my third...? Well, either way, here's what I'm going to attempt for May (if I can find time from work lol):

1. Finish my Paint-n-Trade model. Easy, mandatory, but still, necessary.

2. Paint my last two Mournfang beasts. When they're done being painted, I'll have my MFC ready for war! Well, in a "full-painted-army" tournament, at least

I don't want to go too overboard, as these three things will take a good li'l chunk of my hobby time. However, if I do manage to get them done, I'll throw in my bonus pledge:

A. All Bulls Painted, with a picture showcasing all of them. (I only have a few left!!!)

So, yeah, I'll get the first two done, at least

i realy want to get some of my own models finished this month, been flat out with a commision whitch is nearing finished still to do for this month are
2 drop pods
10 scouts
10 devs (depending if the models do get sent to me to paint up, if not im not too worried)
belail (again depends if the customer sends him)
librarian (again if hes sent him)

then with any luck i will get onto some of my own models,
1 beastman ghorgon, got to buy and build him this month
10 ork boys to paint
 that should do for a months work. will be pleaased if i can get it all done, with out painting becoming a chor

I pledge to paint my Crabling/Halfling team for Blood Bowl. I think that is 16 models.

Bonus pledge will be to paint all my Deadzone Rebs and a Maneater for Gnoblar_Herder.

@Randroid, sorry to be a noob, should i apply for my little gnoblar for last months completed pledge? i only as as he will be my first one

you shouldn't get disheartened by failing pledges....just pick something realistic if you need the sense of achievement. Without posting a target here you are probably more likely to get even less done.

Ha! I have actually found myself saying exactly this! When I was rushing to get my Hunter finished and my wife asked why I was in such a hurry to finish this thing over and above doing other stuff like cooking etc, I did end up saying "well I have to do it because I promised some ethereal people out there in cyberspace whom I don't actually know, that I would get it done. And a promise is a promise!"
She wasn't impressed. 
In fact she came back with " yeh? and you promised me you'd fix the shed..."

What else could I say? other than "um...yeh, but that's not Warhammer?" (probably finished with the simple sentence stopper Duh! as well) Divorce papers are in the post apparently

Agree 100%, i love this thread, it keeps me motivated along with my Gnoblog. Its also great to see the new stuff others are working on here.

Hi I'm only new and I know its passed the 10th of the month but...

Just finished painting 2 sabretusks today and working on 4 mournfang and 1 ironblaster for the rest of the month!

(IF I manage to finish them quickly then I will do 6 pistol wielding maneaters too!)

Well, I got part one of my challenge done! Behold...



My Mournfang, all completed! The two for the challenge are the ones in the middle. However, I was excited, so I decided to mount all four and showcase them

As for part two, I have just received my shipment of plasticard, so I can now craft and complete my Paint'n'Trade ME. With five days left to go on that event. lol

@pantat  just put your pics up at whatever stage they are at, and when they are finished too.

Finished my Sabertusks base now complete with severed Gnoblar arm.  Just the kitty to go now.

 (These are the models that I received with a bad paint job on them and I didn't want to strip them or respray them - explains some of the grey on them). Skin is complete on all of them at the minute and the green has had a wash - will carry on with them tomorrow!

I've now finished both of my Mournfang beasts, as well as the Paint'n'Trade model. Woohoo! Now, maybe I'll take a little time to try and finish all the Bulls to attempt my bonus challenge. I don't think it'll happen this month, but it never hurts to try!

I think that makes this month complete for me....though hoping to finish my paint n trade model for alacard88 too

i dontthink im going to finish this month, the models that are a commision have just turned up today. so that leaves me with belail, librarian, 5 vets plus 10 orks still to do. they are currently grey and in bitz. tho on the plus side my ghorgon looks cool

I ended up deciding not to play my Crablings though they are mostly painted... so that is a fail.

Got my rebs mostly painted up right now and GH's Maneater too. Here's hoping I can finish strong in the last week or so!

I have finished my P&T Maneater, the last bits of which are drying as we speak. Just got to go balls-out to get my chaos siege giant finished and I have managed to get a challenge done!

Back from Face Off the first tourney run by the Dwellers Below guys.

It was an awesome event and I managed to come away with 2nd in painting!!

cut it abit close but i finnished my pledge !!! so here they are theviking's model for the paint'n' trade event and the first model of my 'turning friends into models' thread

I am sad to admit that I failed my painting challenge for this month. Got busy with a lot of other stuff. Looking forward to June's though!

A fast start from me fell away but ive finished, just in time again!

Hey guys managed to just finish my sabertusk. (I know it's past 12 but I had to load up the pics etc.

Would have finished this bad boy a lot sooner but been delayed by my poor little son (now 20 months) who has cut 8 teeth in the past few weeks, so not much sleep I can tell you!

I like the Bue and White theme. What I have heard from some fellow wargamers, the young ones do take a lot of the gaming/painting time. But it is all worth it when they finally defeat you with their one army... (preferarbly ogres ofc...)

Thank you very much!  I certainly hope he takes up the Hobby it would be nice to have regular games.  Can't predict the future though so fingers crossed!

A swing and a miss for me this month. The maneaters are on the verge of completion, but the ogres are still wearing their basecoats and the ironblaster hasn't been touched.

Shamefully yet another fail for me. 

Whilst I did finish my paint and trade model, plus numerous other stuff I didn't pledge, I never finished my Chaos Siege Giant.
