Hellheart.....wow

original thread ↗

Hey everyone I had 2 games yesterday with my skaven buddy and I finally put the hell heart on my slaughter master. 2000pts he brought a screaming bell with a grey seer and 2 warlock engineers. 1 warlock was in the same unit as the grey seer and the other was in a unit of clan rats beside the bell unit. I moved up and rolled a 3. All 3 wizards where in range I didn't expected what happened next. In order this is what happened.

He rolled a 11 for the winds

Greyseer- rolled cascade , took out 24 clan rats greyser got sucked into the warp and took last wound off the bell.
1st engineer - rolled magical feedback, lost a wound and lost 6 dice from the power pool.
2nd engineer-rolled power drain , lost both wizard lvs

After resolving everything I won due to his fortitude falling below 2 breaking him game over turn 3.

I can really see why people rage about this item I know I wouldn't like the be on the receiving end that's for sure.

Wow... NICE!!  :D
Yeah, when it works, it HURTS lol... Of course, people have to give it some lenience, because it is 50pts, arcane only (which 2/3's of our casters only have 50 magic points allowed as it is), and has a lot of luck involved with it (rolling d6 for distance effected, PLUS the enemies' rolls on the chart itself may not always be as bad).

However, when I played a game against a VC "wizard's council" list, I managed to catch all 4 of his wizards, and popped all but the lvl4 general (which I wished I had, cuz it would've ended the game so much more quickly too lol), it was definitely useful ;)
24 Gnobs! Wow, 2 sets, crazy!
Toothy, Workie, Sir Reginald, and Busty (for the bus explanation)!

43/101 Achievements earned! Woo! Got some of the tricky ones!

New book WLD: 17/8/2 ... A good quick game to get me re-invigorated, glad it was a win either way lol

It's definitely powerful, and well worth its points.  But remember certain armies do have counters for it (including Lizardmen with their Cupped Hands) so you might wind up on the receiving end of your own big bang.

Man, he was very unlucky. The chance of that happening is pretty low, and thats why the HH isn't broken and there's no reason to whine about it.

its an item that takes all a butcher's magic item inventory and is not even guaranteed to work. You have to get close to catch the enemy.

For every time it sucks somebody's general into the warp there's 5 times when you roll a 1 for distance and get nothing.

True, but as with anything that causes butthurt it gets comped out of stuff because there's that 1 in a few hundred thousand chance that everything goes right with it and it only costs 50pts.....

Best Hellheart Result - 3 Dead Vampires + change
Pulled out the Hellheart against Lizards at Adepticon.  Slann rolled a 4, which he chose to reroll and proceeded to roll snake eyes.  Slann was then sucked into the dimensional cascade and GG.  Best 50 points ever spent.
The dude abides.
The best one for me was facing vamps, hit all 4 of his casters with the Hellheart and he rolled two 8-9 results that hit all his casters with S6, killing all his wizards apart from his vampire lord that limped on with 1 wound remaining.

That said, the first time I ever faced off against the hellheart, I rolled a dimensional cascade with both wizards, so that wasn't fun.
I used the Hellheart in 5 games at Brawler Bash.  I rolled a 5 (hit both wizards of Gutlord Inquisitor's army), a 6 (hit the tomb king heirophant, his only wizard, that was way in the back), then a 1 (nothing), a 1 (nothing), and a 2 (nothing).  Other than the use vs tomb kings (where I needed a 5), the distance required was less than 15 inches in every game.  Still missed rolling a 3+ on 3 attempts out of 5.

So yes, it often fails.

That being said, I noticed my opponent's definitely alter their play when they know I have the hellheart.  Sometimes, I think it is worth it just for the intimidation factor.

Even if they know that you have a habit of taking the hellheart they change their playstyle.  For once I didn't run the Hellheart the other night and he still kept his wizards (TK) well away just in case I had it.
