Starting afresh !

original thread ↗

Hey there everyone. So I took a big break from war-gaming in general and only recently thought of getting back in to it :)

I had a decent sized ogre army, roughly at least 2500 points worth. And it got stolen! Yeah I know, sucks right? I'll not bore you with details, suffice to know I had an idea who it may be but when I asked them about the where abouts they said I don't know and without proof there isnt anything I can do!

So that was a kick in the teeth. But I fancy starting a fresh!
I still had 2 built mournfang models sitting in my room so I'll enjoy painting them. And the remnants and extra bits and pieces from a battalion, which, includes 6 unbuilt bulls! Woohooo!

So I'm thinking of using a couple of them to make my SM/Butcher(s).
Was wondering though, are the heroes supposed to be generally bigger? Is there any way to bulk these guys out without alot of GS work or is a simple bull model sufficient (size wise) for my characters? :)

I look forward to your replies and I'll hopefully get a Gnoblog up and going, Maybe the 'Returned Tribe' or the 'Prodigals' ;)
Shame all that money went down the drain just to spend more now, hope theyr'e at least being treated properly :)

My suggestions:

1) Take your six bulls. Convert 1 into a slaughtermaster/butcher. I'd give that model an ironfist and splatter blood all over him. If you can find a hatchet bit, that would be best. Convert a second bull into a bruiser BSB. Give him also an ironfist and give him a banner. Maybe also try to find a gnoblar to put on his base.  Then with the other 4 bulls, turn them into maneaters with xhw.
2) Buy a battalion box. This will give you 4 ironguts, 6 ogres, 4 leadbelchers.
3) Buy an ironblaster.
4) Buy a sabretusk pack.

At this point you will have a slaughtermaster, bruiser bsb, ironguts, ogres, leadies, mournfang, maneaters, and kitties. Enough for probably a 1500 point game with all the core elements of a good ogre army...
If you want to make the characters a bit taller, here is a really nice tutorial I used:

Wasn't too hard and makes the bulls stand out just a bit.
The dude abides.

Battalion contains 16 ogre bodies so 6IG 6Bulls and 6 belchers, also plenty of random gnoblars.

Hope this makes rebuilding slightly cheaper
Those who live by the sword, get shot by those who don't.

When I started I got
2 battalions
Iron blaster
Sabretusks
 Done

We really do have one of the best battalion set out there.

That's 18 Ogres... ;)

You will get 6 Ironguts, 6 Ogres, and 4 Leadbelchers (IIRC you can make all regular Ogres if you like).
My hood is my castle...
