Tutorial: Converting bulls to maneaters/characters

original thread ↗

Bulls (ogres) – maneater conversion
Alot of threads keep cropping up with this so I made a guide on how to bulk up the bull (ogre) body to make a suitable looking man eater.
You will need:
-   1 ogre bull
-   Razor saw
-   Some spare sprue
-   Greenstuff
-   Pot of water
-   Sculpting tool/clay shapers
-   Hobby knife
-   Clippers
-   Superglue
-   Plastic glue
-   Pinning drill and pins
-   files

Firstly in order to be worth of that stat line the Ogre needs to be bigger and badder.
For this the easiest way is to add some height.

Step1: cut the ogre as shown, straight through the middle and just above the knee on each leg. Then clean up the area with hobby knife/file taking off that bit that looks ‘furry’ and flattening the surfaces.

Step2: In order to keep scale, use two bits of the same height sprue. Then add two bits to each of the gaps. This joint will be strong if you use plastic glue. Don’t worry about any over lapping bits as you can trim these out after wards (but try keep it within the boundaries)

Step3: Glue it all together and try to keep the position he was in initially as this will help the joint to have a smoother finish. It should look something like this:

Step4:  Start filling in the gaps/ big bits of spare sprue will save you a lot of acess greenstuff (see belly)

Step5:The roll out a flat piece of green stuff wrap it round the legs joint and mould it in. Then follow the trouser indents with a sculpting tool/clay shaper to add to the look of the trousers.

Step6: Then for the back and belly fill it in with greenstuff, if you want an un gutplated belly then this will make an excellent base. As for the back musculate try and follow the ridge of the back and then add in any other muscle forms (look at a human back for refrence)

Step7: Now he is ready to be armed and festooned with loot and armour (sizing shot)

First Tutorial so C&C welcome  :)
Thanks,

Nice tutorial the only thing that bothers me is its a little to tall for my tastes. The height it is right now seems like it would be a bruiser or tyrant. IMO I would use one piece of the sprue instead of two this would make it taller but not too tall. Overall it was a great tutorial.

Keep Calm and Praise the Sun!
I think its quite cool someones making a tutorial about this.
Personally I dont like Maneaters this much,
but its nice to have an inside on someones thoughts and work progress on these.

Maneaters can practicly be anything. Why not learn from someone
some of the tricks there are and then adding some skill or ideas.

Great Idea! Keep doing it until the end, buddy!

First and NEW GnoBlog comming very soon!
This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you very much. Simple, yet effective.
Nice work on the tutorial.
I did the same thing to make my slaughter master, but also only used 1 sprue.

Ogres
Wow, that's a great idea! Thank for sharing that! I am going to have to try that on a few of mine now. ;) Thanks!

Good idea, but as has been said, I think 2 bits of sprue makes them too tall, and too thin by comparison.

I may try this at some stage when I've finished all my other Ogre stuff, of which there is still a lot! :D

HG
Wouldn't their arms look real short compared to the rest of the body? :P
Lol, they would look like Ogre T-rexes or something.
