The Deathcheater Tribe - Bullhax' plog of undead ogres

Hello everyone just a quick introduction of myself and my project:
I started out as a Vampire Counts player and have had a lot of fun playing them, but I've long wanted to start a new army and I quickly decided on Ogre Kingdoms - I love the models and the 40mm bases make me able to field my undead ogres as zombies too.. When I got 500€ back for paying to much for heat/gas/water in 2012 I used it all (smart move I know) on Ogres

Hi again it is time for the first update of the gnoblog:


I've had a lot to do and time has been scarce but I sneak as much time as possible converting and assembly of my Ogres.. I'm done with the command group of the Irongut unit, I've taken extra time on the Gutlord so I've done some single shots of him:

I've "cut off" the hands of the banner bearer and the Gutlord and given them swords instead.
The gutlords left hand swapped with the blade of a two-hander from the Mournfang-kit his right the one-handed sword also from the MF-kit. His stomach was left open with a gnoblar carrying the Gutlords guts on his fallen gutplate.

The SB has a regular ogre sword in place of a hand swinging through the banner which to make sense will be painted ethereal!

I'm nearly done with the command group of the Ogres too only needing the bellower to be done, I will be away the entire weekend so pictures will be up in the middle of next week. After theese are done I will focus on getting my irongut unit first and getting the bases done too.!

thanks a lot! Very happy to hear you like it! The SM model is called Dark Vlad and made by a company called Enigma, they really have a lot of great models!

I will try to do a lot of converting and weapon swaps to get as unique ogres as possible without it being over the top!

Good start here! Looking forward to seeing more. I had a lot of fun modeling my one zombie ogre. I too contemplated an army of them... maybe some day.

Cool I always enjoy looking at other peoples work for inspiration, I've searched the forum a bit but can't seem to find any pictures of your zombie ogre, if you have postet pictures of it can you give me a link, I would love to see it!

Hehe, I'm exactly the same, I tend to have more ideas of cool armies, conversions etc. than I have time or money! But my Ogre idea was to good to pass up, had to make it a reality!


I will try to get my next update up tomorrow, I have a rather large exam coming up this friday so i won't start my painting before next week at the earliest.

As I tend to change stuff up as I paint I will only post a rough idea of the colourschemes I will be using. If People want a complete list of colours used, I tend to write down what exact colour-mixes I end up using so I will be able to recreate it at a later time and will gladly share if people are interested. I use the old GW colours and will write the names on the pots I have

Skin: Normal skintoned base highligted to a pallid green, painted stitches on limbs and torso. Some tattoos on the more bare / low on conversion models.
Cloth pants and banners: Bright yellow, with fresh/dried mud on the lower parts
Metal: mainly a very dark metal colour, rust and verdigris all will be used.
Eyes: Will get a green glow like the sword on my Dark vlad model to emphasize the raised undead look and feel of the army and tie it all together.

A new little update - 4 models was all I had time for since the last time and it only came down to a couple of arm and weapon/hand swaps...

Also I've had my first experience with the horrors that is finecast...

I've heard/read a lot of horrible stuff about it but decided to give it the benefit of the doubt as I really wanted the Firebelly model and couldn't find it in metal close by.. That stuff is pure crap, blebs, holes, funky bends and more-annoying-than-plastic mould lines.. There was a horrible bend to the lower part of the hammer that I tried to smoothe out, I didn't use hot enough water though, my own damn fault so it snapped right off... I tried to make it into something positive and swapped the ends with the two handed hammer on my Crusher as the end left here was to small to make it believable.

It will be a while before I dive into buying a new FC model again if ever.!

I instead used the little spare time I had left in hollowing out a Chaos Warrior helm that will be featured on the Gutlords base to tie the two together.. It will be placed in the murky water to look like it flew off and got stuck in the muck when my Vampire Lord struck the unfortunate chaos warrior. Will include a picture of this when the whole model gets done as I wont pin them till both base and model is painted..

The bellower got his weapon from the Crypt Horror kit, the crusher got an irongut hammer and a ironfist from the Mournfang kit..
The standard bearer got an arm from the Mournfang kit, and a weapon swap from the offhand selection on the Ogre-sprue..!

When I have more time I will burn some flesh wounds on some of the models backs/arms and greenstuff the gaps from the swaps. Now exam friday and getting hammered afterwards!

My exam went well and I did get hammered so mission accomplished 

Well this is what I've been up to:
The head from the Zombie Dragon kit, I've had lying around for ages and always wanted to use it for something, the horns for the kit I used on the Nurgle Giant I entered in this years Golden Bat (and that won 1st place in the general category) so I needed to replace those.. The Mournfang standard bearer will in all likelihood carry the Dragonmaw banner once or twice and the banner itself has some dragonscales sculpted onto it so I thought it would be a perfect fit.

I used the spare tusks from the Mournfang kit and cut them to fit. I cut off the roof of the mouth as the flat part on the ZD didn't look good at all at this angle. The sword arm was cut open and greenstuffed to fit, to make room for the horn and to give the model a more imposing feel. The banner arm was cut - mostly replaced with paperclip metal To make a skeletal arm. the hand was then filed down to remove the fingernails make them slimmer and cut where the joints would be (this is hard to see but should be noticeable once painted)

Im toying with the idea of getting the dragonscale "apron" from the Giant kit fitted onto the model somehow maybe as a cape? But that will have to wait for tomorrow. If you have any ideas please feel free to write!

I want to do more to the arm but my limited sculpting skills are making it hard, for now I will wait till this layer is dry and try and add more tomorrow to make the joint look more real.

My idea for the paint scheme was to paint the Ogre like the rest of the army but that the mournfangs ethereal this would make them stand out a lot on the battlefield and I can use them as unit fillers in a Black Knight bus or even as a Mortis Engine proxy when I play my VC army.

As the painter in me is itching to come out and play soon I will start painting the Mournfang Standard bearer and the command group of the Iron Guts..

I will be away AGAIN this weekend so it will have to wait till next week.. This gives me time to add the last modeling touches to the models I've done so far before I prime them.

Ok I'm finally done, redid the metal a number of times, ended up pretty well but will be "perfected" over the next couple of miniatures.. I can't settle on doing NMM (as it doesn't fit with my VC's) and pure metallics just doesn't work for me if I want it to look above average, so I mixed the two, as has been my habit when painting bronze in the past (Tin Bitz and Snake Bite leather) tried to do the same on the iron too, together with washes and glazes I quite like the potential this has so I have to toy around with it some more!

The UHU (I used a substitute that apparently dries fast as hell) mixed with tamiya worked rather well. The Glue wasn't as good as the UHU showed in the video so I couldn't mix it with darker colours so it got a bit too bright on the banner; oh well, I think it looks good anyways.!

Overall I'm really happy about the model, I learned a thing or two in the proces of doing it which is something I have as a goal every time I paint a new mini..

Further notes:
In regards to the pictures; I just couldn't get a nice shot from afar because the banner kind of messes it up so you lose something no matter what angle you shoot from.
The jaw muscle on the dragon head will get some gloss varnish but I have no more at the moment so you will have to imagine that being somewhat shiny

Well...I'm just gobsmacked! You have real talent there, mate! That Dark Vlad model has always been a favorite of mine and, if I wasn't such an ogrey bastard, I'd jump straight back into Vampire Counts....again. Really nice work.

Ok update time. (finally)!

My original plan was to convert the AoW Ogre Hero into a BSB, as of now it's two and a half month since I ordered and paid for the mini and still nothing!

I took matters into my own hands and converted one from various OK and VC bits.. Not at all what I planned in the first place but I am very pleased with the model none the less!

Cool theme, put simply - great idea and great execution. A wonderful little gnoblog starting here. Lots of pics and excellent painting style. I give you my pet to look after, he likes salmon fish steaks and his name is Kenny. +1 gnoblar

much obliged good sir! Thank you for Kenny I will treat him with as much respect a gnoblar can hope to achieve in an undead ogre horde. He will get fielded as a Groinbiter in my army!

A small update, two 40x100mm bases of gnoblars trappers included. I decided to make a use of all the excess gnoblars that come with the Ogre kits to save money, i like the trappers but they're expensive so I made these standins instead with a bear-trap spears in the ground and a makeshift cannon. Kenny will conquer all!

The main thing I learned was that making fire look good is HARD.! Need way more practice till I get that under my belt. Will redo it when I have more time and make some OSL.











Oh and I totally went overboard with the rust this time.. Should clean it up but that is for another day xD

I have to say that your mournfang banner bearer is probably the only warhammer model I've ever seen that has made me feel nauseous.  Props to you for that one.  Thi sis the first time I've viewed your thread, and I love the  VC SM model.

Thank you for the kind words! Next project is four ironguts! Will do some more till I have enough for a full unit. I dislike painting huge batches of models but will try to paint theese four at the same time
