how to use sabertusks correctly?

original thread ↗

I have heard a lot that an ogre kingdom player should put at  least 1 single unit of sabertusk in your army to hunt warmachines, march block or secure the flanks. but how do you keep them from dying/fleeing? I usually meet an  army with either fast cav with bows/pistols or scouts with blowpipes or gutter runners with poison. so if I charge them they will stand and shoot, if I get 8 inch away from him so he can't stand and shoot, he will shot me next shooting phase anyway. which they never will do because any decent player wouldn't waste a turn shooting on a 21pts unit. Well I maybe answer my own question there, but anyhow, is there something more that I should know or think about before deploy sabretusks for the first time?
What i do is put the sabertusk behind my unit of 6 bulls(now keep in mind these are 1300 point games so increase the amount of ogres as needed) then once the bulls get into combat with what is usually the enemies more CC oriented unit the sabertusk  will go out from behind them and charge towards the closest warmachine or, standalone wizard. To increase the survival rate i usually have leadies tying up another combat unit and ironguts with chars going towards a shooty unit, but that's really any ogres tactic "Charge Forward".

The place holder tactic actually allowed me to use a 'tusk to take down a VC Lord on a dragon, so their purdy good
