Ogres from the North...

original thread ↗

Army Background:
Many stories are heard about the 'Ogres of the North', each race around the North wastes have their own stories to tell from the smallest of Goblins to the mightiest of Chaos Champions. It is heard that they used to fight alongside The Empire, mechanaries, 'defending' againsts the Orc hordes and the threats of Chaos to the East of the Empire. But they Were a different tribe back then, a different Tyrant.
It was during a Chaos raid from the marauders of the North when the ogres fought alongside with a small force from Ostermark. The force was ambushed by a Chaos horde. The battle left only a few empire survivers, only several were keen to tell their tales of what had happened.
It was thought that the mechenary ogres had all deceased during the fighting or fled after seeing the losing battle, realising there was not much chance and dead humans don't pay.
These were all tales, stories, which for the Empire state troops kept them at ease. This was thought to later be confirmed with the corpse of the Ogre Tyrant found close to the battle field in a mangled state. The cuts were not from Chaos weaponry, for the wounds and cuts on the body were from large, blunt blades which the stongest of Chaos warriors could lift.

The Ogres had not been killed or fled, but instead something had drawn them to join the chaos marauders, and head North... for they had been chosen

I have many ideas from the army, conversion ideas, paint schemes ect.

The idea is to have three main blocks:
Khrone Ironguts with the Khorne Tyrant (i was lucky enough to get a Warhammer forge Chaos Ogre from GD 2010).
Slaanesh Bulls with Slaanesh BSB Bruiser (converted).
Nurgle Bulls with Nurgle Butcher (forgeworld Ogryn).
My Firebelly will then be Tzeentch, on a disc of Tzeentch (Arabyian Carpet)

So here is a list of what I am am wanting to get done with the army (Updated November 2012)

Ironblaster Complete

Ironblaster Complete
Scraplauncher Complete

Armies on Parade Board Complete

I did a test Irongut, going with a slight purple skin colour in the recess. The bases is cork tiling with some thick snow. The clock is made from plasticard (heated to create the form). Green stuffed fur and armour.

I have also been (slowly) working on the Thundertusk, I decided to open her mouth to give a frosty breath effect, shown in the artwork of the armybook. After some hakcing and green stuff work it turned out ok. I then added a unlucky empire swordsmen, who is in the process of being frozen and attacked by sharp shards of ice (made from a biro casing of course  :P)

I its not complete yet, still got some details to go, basing, crew, fleeing and wounded empire troops along with finishing off the frosty breath
Placement of Empire Troops (Still WIP):

Christmas goodies, more to come on later updates:

Heres a quick WIP of the second Thundertusk. To show the difference in the two thundertusks I changed the tusks converting the Ironblaster tusks in place. After some cutting and removal of ropes and join marks they surprisingly fit pretty well.

More to come C&C welcome :D

Think of it as a magic glove, like Michael Jackson use to wear, you could even model your character up grabbing at his crotch.

Wow they really are something special-Even the flames/smoke/flying effect with the green stuff matches the GW Firebelly style-Very, very impressive!

Have you used GS before? You have, haven't you? :P

The painting and modelling both look super, hats off and can we see more soon please?
I just love the thundertusk.  Wow, what a nice model, certainly with such a nice paintjob.

thanks once again guys, for all the great feedback.

The sky went dark, as the large beast aproached the Emipre line. They knew it was on the way long before they had even seen it. For it chilled the air around it, breaking even the strongest who dared to get in its path...
Update: Thundertusk :)

Thundertusk is lookin real nice!
DONT FORGET THE TUTORIAL ON THAT CLOAK!!!  8)

The Tusk is lovely, but what kicks it up a notch is the excellent diorama like base.

Bögenhafen dudes getting the bottoms kicked!
My hood is my castle...
Incredible Tusk. The open mouth looks so much better, and the diorama seems very much alive. Love it!
Love your themed army so far, consider me a fan   :D

Is there a crossbow bolt in the tusk?  It is the only thing that has been bugging me why that guy is reloading unless he already shot the thing once

The answer to everything is sabretusks.  There is no problem that can't be solved at least in part with kitties.

I really like what you have done with the Thundertusk's base, the extra time and effort you clearly spent on it really shows and makes a great model look even more amazing.

Very jealous of your skills!

Cheers,
Mike.
I must say that Thaundertusk is amazing and on its base with the empire is WOW!

Keep Calm and Praise the Sun!
How did you paint the thundertusk horns?
it is quite simple, I used a feathering technique starting with Scorched brown, highlighting up to bleeched bone. You use the brrush to create the lines on the tusk which to the eye create a texture. hope that helps.

Right then guys, was planning to have some ironguts done, but have been in a converting mood :p
I conveted my Slaanesh themed BSB. I wanted to show that the brusier was Slaanesh but keep the banner more alround chaos. The oge body is from the ironblaster along with the helmeted head. I used the armour plates from the deamon prince kit.  Gave him an extra clawed arms and some ropes :S
The guy hanging of the banner is from the giant kit, took some time removing the giants hand (still needs some greenstuff work). I also added another detail, on the banner I added a hand which is hanging from on of the hooks (gonnan be great to paint :P)

I also created a Nurgle ogre (Bull). I used the spawn kit and just scupted the rest, trying to build up the body like it was growing. The gut has been opened and he also has a nurgle looking foot. His right arm is from the forgeworld plauge ogryn.

Thanks,

Damn, I wanted to have the first Thundertusk with tusks from the Ironblaster, but great minds think alike...    8)

Excellent work!

Everyone else has already commented on the great work you've done on the Thundertusk so I'll simply say that your conversions are characterful and well executed. :)
