Here alittle background on my Tribe (Might well edit at some point as it's alittle breif).
Thunder Frost tribe are led by Tyrant Farad'n Chill Bringer.
The Thunder Frost tribe live on the lower slopes of the mountains of Mourn around the Ice Caverns of Ymirdrak. They tend to have a fair number of Yhetee's tag along for their hunts due to there proximity to the Ice Caverns and Northern Mountains. In addition to their already stoney skin they have taken on a tint of blue testament to the cold climate. They particularly like attacking Chaos troops being rather close an' all. Might not taste too good but nothing a little Frosty seasoning won't change! But whenever possible the Thunder Frost tribe will seek out more succulent meats for a change as and when the chaosy pallet gets too dull! Up and coming Ogre's within the tribe will often get sent out to "secure" such meats as part of the tribe's initiation. Always a good way to get popular with the tribe quick!

Just had a 1000 pts battle against my friend and his skaven. Won a minor victory alot of the army performed quite well. Lead belchers wiped out his Jezzials in 1 round of shooting. Iron blaster took 3 wounds off a warpfire cannon which got finished off by one of my Kittys!!! Even my Gnoblars killed 6 skaven with thier traps in one go when they got charged!
All in all a fun game!
Now I got to figure out what achievements I just got

Well my battle against Dwarfs went pretty badly. It was a tower mission at 1k points.
Well Iron blaster exploded in the first turn. The second turn my main ogre unit with butcher in it panicked and never rallied after a sabre tusk was killed near them (note they were at full stregth!) My lead blechers had leadership problems as well while holding the tower. Failed 5 leader ship tests rolling a result of 10 each time on my ogres!. Leadership roll clearly are not my friend.
A really fun match none the less with some really comical moments. Hopefully will have better luck tomorrow against the Bretonians.

Haven't been painting much but been doing alot of building lately including the start of my BSB's banner. This banner will go with the Avatars of war model which I have and is intended to be removable eventually. Here's a few pics:-
As you can see if mainly just kit bashing simple stuff (they fit so well though). Will add some extras to it to hang from the hooks when I decide which bits I like the most. C and C welcome. Hope you like.

I am going to have a battle today with one of my mates (dwarfs) for 1000pts. The scenario we rolled was Dawn attack. I have made a list with the intention of getting this achievement.
54. Just the lads - field an army containing ONLY ogres, no animals, gnoblars, etc. Bonus if you also win.
So here's the list I am going to take. It's quite minimal on the character due to points restriction and obviously lacks chaff. The unit of maneaters will help to get behind lines and get over the Dawn attacks random deployment problem. With lead belchers to soften up anything that my Guts will be charging. Finally I really wanted a BSB since I don't have many units to try and keep me in the game as much as possible.
Here's the list:-
Heroes 248pts Bruiser with Enchanted shield.
Bruiser BSB Heavy armour and Ironfist.
Core 336pts 7 x Ironguts with Musician and a Standard bearer bearing The Standard of Discapline.
Special 416pts 4 x Maneaters with Heavy Armour 4 x additional Hand weapons. Special rules will be Scout and Stubborn.
4 x Lead Belchers with a musician
Total 1000pts.
Not sure what dwarfs I face yet, so I will post them later. Wish me luck and lets hope I can get the achievement plus bonus for winning For the MAW!
P.s. If I made any calculation mistakes please let me know and any C & C is welcome.

Well heres my battle report 1000pts against dwarfs. My opponent took a horde of dwarf warriors lead by a thane with some kit. 16 Thunderers 1 cannon with some runes and a unit of 20 miners with a steam drill. A pretty basic army, my friend doesnt have many dwarfs currently so he just run what he has.
Deployment. The Dawn attack scenario saw me rolling highest and getting to choose which side I deployed. Both my units units that I could deployed both rolled for centre region of my deployment. Luckily my units didnt get split up. My friend had similar luck with his 3 units and put his horde in from of my Ironguts. Cannon and Thunderers to the dwarfs left flank in that order in front of my lead belchers. I Then deployed my scouting Maneaters on the dwarf left flank to threaten the thunders flank.
Turn 1 Ogres. I got first turn and pretty much moved everything up the Maneaters moved close to the Thunderers for a charge next turn. Ironguts with my characters marched keeping 13 inchs away from the dwarf horde. My Lead blechers moved up and fired at the dwarf horde but caused no wounds at all.
Turn 1 Dwarfs. My friend pretty much didnt do much except reform his Thunderers to take the Maneater and make a stand and shoot. (I didnt move my Maneaters close enough to deny that. Bad me!) He fired his cannon at the iron guts and hit but only done 2 wounds so it got stopped. (Phew!)
Turn 2 Ogres. My Ironguts made the charge to the horde of dwarfs. The Maneaters easily made the charge to the Thunderers. Lead belchers moved up and took some shots at the cannon inflicting 1 wound. Onto combat. Stand and shoot account for 1 Maneater and a wound on another, The Maneaters then proceed to smash apart the Thunderers (no wounds on impact hits). They break and are caught and the Maneaters who overrun into the cannon crew. (they passed their panic check). The main combat see the Thane making a challenge. I accept with my general. The challenge ends with the death of the thane for no wounds in return. I take 2 wounds and loose an Iron that was wounded, then proceed to chop up the dwarfs by 10+. They lose stead fast and need double 1 which they fail. They promptly run of the board with a roll of 11. I pursued 8 and stop just at the end of the board.
Turn 2 Dwarfs. His Miners arrive thanks to the steam drill reroll. And come in behind my Lead belchers. The Cannon is murdered by the Maneaters (Nearly with impact hits alone! I needed 1 more wound for the achievement).
Turn 3 Both. This turn is fairly uneventful mainly reforming marching and closing gaps for both sides.
Turn 4 Ogres. More moving around with lead blechers moveing sideways 3 inchs to get enough space for the Maneaters to come in beside them. Tehy shoot at the Miners but only kill 1 of them (7 shots close range :S)
Turn 4 Dwarfs. My friend attempts to charge my Maneaters. He only needs 7 and rolls double 1s for his charge and fails. (Insult to injury at this point for him).
Turn 5 Ogres. I declare dual charge with my Maneaters and Lead belchers who both make it, with my Maneaters making a 10 on the role! D3 impact hits incoming! The combat starts with the Maneaters getting 6 impact hits and making 6 kills! With a few from the Lead belchers. The rest of the combat see that the Miners are reduced to the command group only before they even strike back. The steam drill toting prospector kills of the wounded Maneaters. The Miners break and are run down ending the battle early with a Massacre for the Ogres!
This battle got me 4 Achievements:- 3. Brace for impact! - During a game, an ogre unit successfully charges and rolls 10+ on the dice 24. Win a game using ogres vs. Dwarfs 43. Now you see me - field a unit of scouting maneaters 54. Just the lads - field an army containing ONLY ogres, no animals, gnoblars, etc. Bonus if you also win.
Got the win! I was very lucky with the deployment IMHO along with good combats and charges. Very happy with the results though. Hope you all enjoy the read.
Victory for the Ogres!

Little more to add to the list. I done my first free hand banner! This is basically the starting template for what I will use on my BSB banner. I am wondering if bold colours would be better off here instead of blended, to make it stand out more.

Very well done with the banner! I, personally, like the blended aspect. If anything, I'd suggest adding some peripheral visuals for your BSB banner to make it more stormy/mountainy. The red is a great background for both the peak and the lightning.
Actually, the more I look at it, I'd almost suggest not having a 'hard' line across the bottom of the mountain. If you could let the colors 'bleed' out onto the banner proper, it might be cool. Sort of like the roots of the mountain?
Keep up the good work, sir!

Thank you very much. The suggestion of pulling the line off the bottom may make a lot sense. I will trial the idea on my mournfang standard bearer (when I get round to painting him!) before trying it on the BSB. (who still needs to be built!)
Thanks for your feedback.

Banner looks good. I like the blending on it too. I agree that taking the bottom line off the mountain and blending to base into the red back ground would look good. The main thing that detracts from it (for me at least) is just positioning on the banner. it feel like it should be higher up to get away from the tatty edges of the banner. As it is now I feel something is needed on the left and right to balance it. My suggestion to improve this without tooo much drama is to remove the white line and make the mountain slightly shorter or to paint each side in another colour, maybe white. I did this to my BSB on one side to balance it.

Really like the banner. Keep up the good work! Maybe having a little grey/black cloud where the lighting is coming from might help.... but it looks great just the way it is to. Thanks!

I do agree with you here Warlordsteve. My idea to widen and balance this banner out is to add snow/sleet coming from the sky around the sides. This will also add to the whole Thunder Frost theme of my tribe name. Could make a "light side" and "dark side" of the mountain maybe. Perhaps pulling more white to left and greying out the white on the right side. Thoughts?

I had a similar thought when when I was brain storming the Tribe symbol in the first place. I decided against it in the end for a couple of reasons. One being that it would probably further lengthen the banner making it alittle to high for my liking. And two was I'm pretty sure my cload painting would be awful!
Thank you both for your compliments and feed back. Very helpfull!

This could work too. The good thing about painting a banner is if you don't like it you can always paint over it and try again.

I got an Invite to a "Lock in" at my local Games workshop in Bristol. Its going to be a fairly big battle with about 4 a side teams Storm of Magic game with 3000pts per player. The scenario is basically the 3rd battle of Blackfire with Orc's versus Empire plus allies on either side. So it's gonna be big and fun!
The invite itself is rather amusing so I got a picture for you guys.
Hope you guys like it. I will let you know how the battle goes on the 20th.
P.S. My Ogre's will be fighting on the side of the Orcs in this battle.

Well I had my big battle and will post about it later. I have pictures as well this time. It's going to be a long post so will probably post in Tales of Conquest section and set up a link in my Gnoblog. In the mean time here some progress work on my BSB. (I have been bad and digressed from my monthly challenge painting.)
Hope you like him. He's still need some green stuff filling around the top of the gut plate. And the Banner is meant to be separate so it optional. (need magnets for this) I will make another small rocky base with some "stuff" on it that I will use for this guy when he not a bsb.
Thanks very much! Hopefully once I get my hands on some green stuff and fill the last parts that need it I can get onb with painting the main dude. Quite looking forward to it!

Won a 2400pts game against skaven and picked up some achievements.
55. You can't touch this - pass a 4+ ward vs flaming with a firebelly. 60. Overpowered! - win 3 games in a row with your ogre army. 80. Altered beast power up! - boost every unit in your army with a single augment from the lore of the great maw
Nice little game where my army performed quite well. With the exception of failing some easy leadership tests and having my slaughtermaster, and Irongut unit nearly get run down by 15 clan rats. Could have been so humiliating. Otherwise was a good match with a sporting opponent who had some bad luck (warlock engineer fried himself in the 1st turn:) ) allowing me a nice 500pts win.
Hopefully will have some more pics coming soon of my mournfangs. Yes I'am actually painting them! I will do my painting pledge this month if it KILLS ME!

The banner and the musician look fantastic. As for advice all I can say about the horns is that I just painted it brown as a base and then worked up to white in sections using beleached bone, and if I remember correctly i also used beastial brown. I will post a picture of what mine looks like on my gnoblog here in a couple days, so you can get an idea of what I'm rambling on about.

That would be great matey. I went the other way trying to start with a stoney colour then washing the tips but it's not quite worked too well to be honest. So I will have to do some repainting for sure.
I do think my banner tribe design looks much better then the banner I done for my ogre bulls a few pages back either way.

It's really easy when you typing a reply in these forums, underneath all the standard emotes is a link saying "more". Just click that and you will get an extra small window with all the extra stronghold emotes that you can leave open so you can use in typing your signature.

Ah...I was thinking of the more ironic; "Sticky" fingers Maginty the one-armed bandit of Mourn. His ability to "retrieve" lost or misappropriated items from the battlefield is legendary; but poor old sticky found out the hard way that relieving a sabre tusk of his lunch is not only foolish, but can drastically reduce the number of bookings you get for your Lyre playing performances.

So first up I finished the inside of the mouth lots of reddy pink flesh followed by a gloss varnish to make the appearance of wet saliva mmmmmmmmmm
I hope the pics angles are ok to see the gloss
And here I'm aiming for an obsidian look for the horns so started with a dark grey and put a heavy wash of Nuln oil. I left one horn in this pic grey to give you guys and idea of how heavy. aside from some gem stone detail I am thinking of varnishing the horns as well in gloss. Do you think I need another layer of black wash?

Hey guys was down my local GW last night and though I was hoping for a 1500pts battle there was a 40k event on the go so only a few FHWB guys down luckily there was a couple of really friendly chaps a Dark elf player and a new ogre player having a small 600pt match just to have a practice with his new army.
Had a 600pt with the ogre player He had 2 units of bulls (5 and 3), level 2 butcher and 2 MFC.
I went with a level 2 firebelly, 5 IGs, 10 Gnoblars and 2 single kitties.
Battle was mostly in aid of advice and pointers with the ogres at least from my limited experience. Sabertusk really came in handy in preventing a rear charge from MFC into my guts and allowed me to reform and win.
I encouraged our new friend to join the forums who is our new member under the name Plotorien. He's a really friendly guy and very sporting. Also taught me a little greenstuff rope effect technique that he used for his converted butcher to great effect. Top bloke.
Either way nice to get a game out finally as not done any battles for awhile. Man i am rusty though!

Just a quick update on the battle I had last Tuesday against an Empire army.
Started really well had my maneater on the flank and they charged and made a mess of a cross bow unit. Sadly the broken unit was not caught and a missed opportunity to flank a horde and mess up his battle line was lost due to the maneaters failing leadership (with gleaming pennant) happy days. Had an even game for about 3 turns but I put out a challenge which held my main units and I got flanked and beat up basically. Oh well we live and learn.
Was a good battle I know this is very brief but considering I'am rather rusty I was happy with how I did. For the most part I did NOT my fears or stomps. This alone I was very happy with also remembering magic items was great too. All in all a good experience and I learned a lot.
But sadly my win streak of 6 is now reset so gotta get back in there and start busting heads. I will hopefully have a game against Vampire Counts on Tuesday coming so fingers crossed. Any advice will be kindly received.
Will also have some painting progress pics up soon too.

Zolas, how do you base your guys with snow? I just did some Yhetti and am about to paint my Thundertusk and have been thinking of using snow on the bases, and I really like the look you have.
Zolas05 Jul 2014
Hello Havoc.
My basing is pretty simple to be honest.
1. So just a simple sand base. 2. Base coat codex gray (and on edges of base) 3. Drybrush with a lighter grey (as you please with this one) 4. Drybrush with Whitescar. 5. Paint specific area patches with generous bit of whitescar. 6. Now PVA the whitescar patches and dip your base in GW snow flock.
You can use other flock if you have other stuff available. I paint the patches of white for under the snow flock as it helps to prevent the snow looking greyish as I had this problem with my earlier models. (Some of which I need to correct this.
So very simple really. Note this tends to be pretty flat if your after fluffy white snow you would be better off with a different technique that involves bicarbonate soda or something.
I would have linked you a nice guide to making various snow bases that GW published. Sadly it is now not available since GW updated their website. Along with the Old to New paint conversion chart. Fun times.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards Zolas.

Had a nice friendly game at my local GW in Bristol. 1500pts. My list was mainly for giggles and catching achievements as well as an excuse to get my Hunter out killing and butting heads!
My List:
Tyrant Kineater, AoD, RRR, AHW. (Wasn't using BSB so kineater still keeps me a re-roll.) Firebelly level 2 Iron curse, D scroll, AHW. (Fireball and Flamming sword of ruin.) Hunter Blood vulture, 4+ ward.
Ironguts x 7 FC std of disc. Gnoblars x 10 trappers.
Leadbelchers x 8 bellower. Sabertusks x 3 singles.
So wanted to have a Tyrant because why not and Kineater can still give me a short range BSB which is nice in small games. Hunter on foot for achievements including trying to get vulture kill! And 8 leadbelchers for achievement and because I really want to see that many shots at once!
His list: Bare in mind he did make it up on the spot mostly.
Runelord as general. Rune of spell breaking, GW. (cant remember a lot of the kit on the characters) Thane BSB GW Thane ahw Engineer.
Longbeards x 20 ish GW's, FC. Warriors x 20 ish shields, FC. Thunderers x 10. Thunderers x 10.
Gyrocopter x 1. Gyrocopter x 1. Organ gun x 1.
Ogres Turn 1 It get first turn as I finished deploying first. My Hunter vanguards on the right with his fav kitty and his Gyro Vanguards right in the centre. I move up pretty aggressively on the left with kitty and IG's and leadies and Gnoblars move up to.
Magic 10 vs 6. RRR and fireball at Gyro to try and kill it. 2 wounds off with a misscast on the belly (str6 to all casters that didn't wound ) and got Flame sword on leadbelchers. Shooting saw the the leads finish the gyro as I didn't really want it hanging around. Hunter tried to vulture a thunderer but the plucky dwarf made his save! Curses!
Dwarfs turn 1
Little bit of shuffling around on his part. Shooting left thunderers remove my kitty (Im happy with this better then wounds on IG's) and his Organ gun gets 2x 10!'s on Art dice for 20 shots into my guts. 4 wounds get through and I forget my Iron curse save. Not bad really!!! Also right thunderers shoot my Hunter with kitty but cause no damage.
Ogres turn 2.
I'm pretty sure he has that items that messes up charges. So I march IG's up to bait him out. Gnoblars also march up to get in the way, my last lone kitty moves up ready to charge his Organ gun next turn and says hello to his other Gyro (yes he did park it there!).
Magic 8 v 5. Fireball kill a longbeard and flame sword on leadies again but he uses his spell breaking rune. Luckily I don't loose the spell though! Shooting saw my Hunter miss with his vulture (curses again!) and the leadies removing 9 Longbeards! Good turn out.
Dwarfs turn 2
Longbeards and warriors charge my IG's left thunderers don't move, Gyro moves out to deal with gnoblars. Shooting Right thunderers shoot Hunter again but he makes his ward saves. Organ gun rolls 2 x 8's! on Art dice at the leadies doing 7 wounds! ouch! But they stick around! Gyro steams 5 Gnoblars but they stick around thanks to the general. COMBAT! No challenges, I make way My Tyrant to Longbeards and Firebelly to warriors (idea here is for Tyrant to remove Longbeards before they can swing and Firebelly to flame breath and have a T5 hard time for warriors) Tyrant kills 2 longbeards and Firebelly flames 6 warriors! The rest of combat accounts for the remaining Longbeards to a man and another warrior. I only lose IG champ and a few wounds on the IG's and 1 wound on the Firebelly. I win combat, Thane BSB fails leadership and dies. Warriors stick on steadfast.
Ogres turn 3
Lone kitty charges Organ gun, Hunter with kitty swftstride into thunderers who's stand and shoot does nothing. Gnoblars and leadbelchers move to take out Gyro.
Magic 4 v 3 some how I still manage to get flame sword on leadies again! Shooting gnoblars thow stuff at gyro and do nothing (more for the giggles tbh) and leadies remove the gyro from play. Combat see my lone kitty fluffing his attacks and get properly bashed by angry cannon crew! Hunter with kitty removes 3 thunderers (kitty fluffed again) for no return, thunderers stick. Main combat see's the Tyrant kill 2 warriors and the IG's kill another 3 only 2 wounds come through onto the firebelly leaving him on 1 wound now. Dwarfs warriors hold again. Pics after combat:
Dwarfs turn 3
Left Thunderers try to flank charge IG's but stumble a bit. everything else is in combat bar the organ gun which shoots leadies. rolls a missfire, rerolls from engineer produces another missfire! Then second art dice comes up 8. Still manages to remove another leady but not enough for a panic here. Combat Hunter and kitty both get 2 wounds on the thunderers but the kittys wounds are both saved! The Hunter packing more of a punch kills 2 more dwarfs who run and are cut down. The Main combat see's the dwarfs fail their fear check and the unit is systematically butchered (4 kills from the Tyrant alone) only leaving 2 characters left who run and are cut down. In a last act of defiance the runelord kills the firebelly though! Oh dear.
At this point my opponent Tom concedes the game with only the organ gun and 1 unit of thunderers left. I have only lost 2 kittys 3 IG's, 3 leadies and the firebelly, oh and 5 Gnoblars!
It was a really relaxed game and bot me and Tom were cracking jokes and having a good laugh. Generally I actually forgot a few things like my Ironcurse Icon. Even forgot the Tyrant would have had LD 10 thanks to Std of Disc (I was playing as 9 in the game). Kineater never came into play as I passed my LD tests first time if I had to take them. Didn't get my Vulture kill yet but I really enjoyed playing this list so I'm going to get another few games out of this list for sure.
I hope you guys enjoyed the read.

Nice work, this made for a good read. It's great to see your Hunter out on the table as it is such a lovely (well painted) model. Certainly puts that sea of grey plastic & Undercoat to shame!
If you were playing a even smaller points game, would you still put Kineater on the Tyrant? That is to say; at really low points would it still be worth doing this to have a "ghost" BSB?
I ask because (with some luck...if i ever get a day off) i am hoping to start an escalation league/ game with some friends soon and am trying to thing of ways to bolster a Lord to stand a chance of keeping him the game. It has crossed my mind (as someone else has suggested on the forum) to just not bother with magic at all and try and use the very girth of the ogres to just pummel everything i can muster. When i say low points we are talking a starting cost of 500/750. Like very low !
Great read though, can't wait to see another outing with this list.

Well I have made some progress on the Gnoblar hero competition. Rummaging through spare bits I have managed to create this:
While somewhat based on Skragg a little I just could not resist giving the little fella a meatcleaver! That reminds me I have to add a second cleaver to the pot! I wanted to have a gut plate in the bottum of the pot to have a maw in a maw sort of thing also to give the dude some more hieght. The little buddy in front is there to pull my little hero around Added an extra base to main base for extra height which I will green stuff into a little mound. I plan to add some "troll guts" into the maw pan too.
Hope you like it.

Thanks for the kind words regarding my Gnoblar hero. I have not done any further work as yet but hoping too today.
Had a 2400pts battle with Deamons of chaos player (he was using a tourney list). My list was just a giggle list (took 3 gorgers and 2 scrap launchers for achievements).
Was a nice friendly game my luck wasn't on my side sadly Hellheart needing 3 and rolling a 2, would have caught 2 wizards bunkered in a unit of horrors in a building shame. My slaughter master was running Death and casting purple sun multiple times on 6 dice no miscasts saw it either fall short of targets, get dispelled or rolling a missfire and killing 3 of my own ironguts. Gorgers didn't want to come onto to the table either 2 out of 3 made it. ! gorger did kill a unit of horrors on his own though. Found out the hard way that beasts of nurgle are really nasty, and cheep for what you get. Learnt quite a bit in this battle though deamons table in the magic phase was funny he had some khorne hounds arrive via ambushers only to get killed the same turn by Dark prince thirsts, which was quite funny. Skull cannons mount can attack flanks/rear when charged which I didn't know. Deamon engines eh.
All in all not a bad game I really used my kitty's well march blocking and redirecting. I considering the heavy casualties I took and saved enough to for a 12 v 8 in temrs of tournament points which I'am actually quite happy with considering he had a tourny list and I had a giggle list.
Hope you guys are well.

So done some major green stuffing for my Gnoblar hero. Sorted out the mound on the base plus an extra small one. (Had left over green stuff).
Also added some troll guts. Used a pin to add the holes. Hehe. But I'am most proud of the small armour plates and straps holding them to my Heros arm. Really small work that I really didn't think I could achieve. I have to admit green stuff is growing on me and I can see how some people can get good really quick with a little patience. Also added an extra meat cleaver in the pot too though the pics don't show it well at the moment.
Also made a new "quick" Gnoblar hope you like his 2D feel.
Hope you guys like the pics.

Little up hehe.
My Gnoblar base with the sand on. I have actually started painting him I will post up more pics.
So if some of you have seen Jock o Straps Gnoblog you have a heads up on this. I went to a Tournament in Bristol called Vengeance which was being held by the Bristol Vanguard last Sunday. I was going as a spectator so I could get some experience in Tourney environment.
So it was a really good Tourney with some really cool lists (3 full goblin list!) there was 2 ogres players one of which was our very own Jock o Strap I mostly watched Jocks games which he has kindly reported on in his Gnoblog. Wood elves are just nasty by the way!
So first I wanted to share the other Ogre army which was Ogre/orc conversions but in an albino style! Apologies for the first blurred picture.
The second picture I wanted to share with you was a Dark elf cauldron of blood which had a working water pump with red water to simulate blood! Simply amazing work! This Dark player was only 2200pts (this was a 2400pts tourney) as he was practicing for another tourney and he actually bagged 2nd place! Wow Dark elfs are nasty!
Also got a picture of best army painted which was simply a stunning beast man army! More pics of this army on Jocks Gnoblog.
And finally you know how we all love Giants and monsters! (Talking to you G_H!) There's nothing better then seeing 2 Giants in close combat!
Except 2 giants and a stonehorn in close combat! Compliments of Jock's first game!
Best moment for me easily!
Really glad to have meet Jock o Strap at this Tourney. He's a top bloke and ran a crazy list with no magic and 2 giants plus a Stonehorn! Awesome! Looking forward to seeing him at future events for sure!
Hope you enjoyed the read.

This event sounds like it was loads of fun, some amazing painted mini's there too. I did read Jock o Strap's report over on his Gnoblog and 6th is a more than honorable positioning!
And Zolas, you are indeed more than correct; there is nothing in this world like the sight of the double Giant attack! Such stories of the "tall two" tag teaming their opponents is one of those things that always makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
But, the tall two and a stonehorn? Why this is the stuff of legends sir!

Cheers Jock! The lamp is super easy. Just painted white with lementars yellow glaze over it. I then done the metal work and simply added a second coat of glaze after. It really is that simple! (Always looking for an excuse to use glazes.)

Glad you like it. Very easy again thanks to GW technical range. They really are quite nice.
Simple metal base (Boltgun metal from old range) black wash little watered down but not too much. (Nuln oil.)
Then Typhus corrosion lightly on some bits and more heavy in bits you really want to weather. Dry brush with Ryza rust lightly and build up more in bits you want really rusted. (These last 2 paints are meant to be used together. GW did some videos on how to use these paints when they launched them. Should be easy to find on youtube.)
Finally I just applied some bright metal (mithril silver or what ever equivalent it has now) straight on the edges I wanted to look like had been struck or scratched. I think this is essential as it really contrasts the weathering look.
Hope this helps guys. I'am really glad you like the work. It's helping me to keep going!

Thank you so much guys! I'm always happy for for people to use my ideas. Really makes me happy happy to think I am helping others with their hobby. The different wood was really quite easy Used the same base and first layer. Then it is a case of using different washes sepia for lighter wood and agrax earthshade for draker stuff. For that extra lightness just a very light drybrush of bone colour of some description.
But in all honesty a lot of the credit goes to the model it self. The detail in the wood grain is really good and allows it to be painted easily in this way.
Have got some more progress but just need to finish some small bits and start gluing some bits together finally. Will have some pictures soon.

A question as I've really been struggling to get any kind of wood (chariots and all the way down to spear shafts) look at least halfway decent. What colours do you use for wood? And probably more importantly, in which order?
As others have said, that Ironblaster looks great, slightly jealous here.

Well for this IB I did this.
Undercoat: Black. Base layer: Rhinox hide base. First layer: Drybrush lightly Skragg Brown layer. Building up in places you want to be brighter. Wash 1: Watered down Sepia. Wash 2: Agrax earthshade on the wood you want to darken. Highlight: Ushabti Bone drybrush. Very lightly on the sepia covered wood you want to be lighter. You must be light here so you don't make the wood look dusty.
And that's it for the IB I hope this helps.

Thanks very much Steve!
Well I had a doubles practice game with my Tournament partner a week ago for our doubles tourny. It was against ogres and skaven (we were using empire and my ogres). Going to keep it brief basically we won in good fashion with 1 major combat my Iroonguts and 6 bulls dual charging front and flank of their Irongut unit character bus. Both units got an ogre charge and dealt 8 wounds before combat started and their was a mounted priest with the guts allowing re rolls to hit due to hatred. Basically it was quite the brutal combat and one sided in our favour. Either way a good game and good practice.
Now for some Updates! I have very nearly finished my IronBlaster. Only some detail on the back horn to due and that's it. But he's tourny legal!
Hope you guys like him. It's just finishing touches and now fully built! Actually I got my second day today of my doubles Tournament and I must say this guy done really well yesterday! I will be posting up about the tournament at a later date.

Amazing work as always Zolas. Every time I see some of your guys I can never get over just how striking your skin tone is; it really pops and sets the whole army apart from others.
In the case of the Ironblaster, it's the little touches like the pink/ maroon straps that really make this stand out. The painting overall is excellent and your attention to detail is second-to-none, but the use of innovative colours (like the blue skin on the ogres and the Ironblaster straps) just makes you army stand out above others. If I had been left to my own devices with a free reign on colour I would never have come up with this pallet, for that you act as an inspiration not only to me but I am sure to many others who look at your work and say "why not". For that alone you deserve a Gnoblar at the very least!
Keep up the good work mate.

Gnoblar_Herder09 Nov 2014
The finished IB looks fantastic Zolas, really excellent work. I hope he does you proud in the tourney.
It does beg the question though; what have you got left to do for your army? That is to say, what are you doing next? One of the problems I find (well, actually it's not as much a problem to me because I am greedy and unrealistic...) is that after one has amassed a large, well rounded army of 3000pts you have kind of covered all possible options for a "playable" army. It's normally at this point that people tend to stray off to another army.
I was wondering what you have left to do for yours? I say this is not a problem for me because I love Ogres too much to ever "stop" doing them. As I slice the cellophane off my 5th box of Mournfang or 5th Ironblaster, I often ask myself: when do you think you will ever use all these models?
Of course, the answer is the day I meet someone else committed to building a 10,000pt army of their choice. I have had a slight break from my ogres; not playing as such, but painting. That is all changing now as I have had a recent burst of enthusiasm to expand even further with my army. No Ogre horde is complete without Ironblaster number 5 and giant number 7
Where are you going with yours?

As always amazing work Zolas, loving the Ironblaster . I like the colour scheme on the Rhinox! I may try something like that on my mournfang!

Thanks very much buddy glad you like the blaster.

Thanks sooo much G_H! My current project is my firebelly at the moment. I like you however, aim to big a rather big army. I have all sorts of non painted stuff hanging around. Things like most of my maneaters. (I actually own all the GW maneaters in metal). Also have the old scraplauncher. I do have 2 thundertusk/stonehorn (one of those from the Hunter competition.) Also some yhettes and a gorger too. not to mention some unpainted Ironguts and a whole heap of Gnoblars!
However, after the firebelly I really want to show you guys my giant I have converted. So pictures of that soon (ish).
Also keep getting random Gnoblars coming my way but have no idea who's giving them to me as they don't post on the Pet Gnoblars thread! Hehe. Not that I mind at all mind you!
Kind regards Zolas.

Hello I finally finished my report on the doubles Tournament that I went to on Halloween.
Sorry about the wall of texts and no pics. But I hope you enjoy the read none the less.
Next up soon will be a friendly battle report against Dark elves and hopefully a pic of WIP on my Fire belly. Also there a Warhammer league starting up at my local club which I will put up more info on later.

So quick battle report from a 1500pts friendly game against a friend at my local GW and his Dark elves. Quite a casual game. The next 2 pics will show what we had after deployment.
For the Drak Elves: Bloodwrack shrine with medusa, 5 warlocks, Witch elves (with terror banner), Corsairs with level 4 Sorceress, Shrine of Khain, and a War Hydra.
For my Ogres: 1 Kitty (out of pick), 5 Leadbelchers, 10x Gnoblar trappers, 7 Guts with Firebelly and BSB, 3x Mournfangs with Dragonhide banner, Ironblaster, 1 more kitty.
So the Dark elves started moving forward, not much happened really he had really had bad winds of magic.
Not wanted to get combo charged until my Ironblaster and got to work, So chilled out leades killed a warlock (4+ wards ftw!). Magic was un-eventful. Ironblaster hit the Shrine of Khaine but only managed to do 1 wound.
Repeat of the 1st turn for elves and their magic continues to be poor.
End of my Turn in this picture My kitty spotted a flank charge on the warlocks but whiffed his attacks (or they saved) and they got to reform. Leads tried to shoot the Bllod wrack shrine but produced nothing. Ironblaster started a series of trying to hit the War Hydra and the Shrine of khaine. Hitting the hydra and doing 2 wounds. I did manage to get off Cascading Fire-cloak on my Guts and I'm sure I toasted some Witchs with a small fireball.
So the elves advance again, poor magic and/or me dispelling the right spells. Warlocks kill my poor kitty. In my turn I advance my Gnoblars to bait the Witchs. I tried to charge the Mournfangs into the corsairs needing a 7 and fail with a little stumble forward (Drat and double Drat!) so my 2nd kitty kindly redirects. Magic is pretty good getting off a 2nd level fireball and getting 2x sixs for hits! About 9 Witches burn horribly! Mwhahahaha! Leadies try and shoot the Warlocks again but roll low on shots and do nothing. Ironblaster tries the same trick again but a wound roll of 1 just doesn't make the cut!
So this picture is a whole turn extra now, Witches charged the gnoblars and loose 3 of their number to dangerous terrain and stand and shoot. They overrun into my Ironguts. The Bloodwrack has tried shooting leadbelchers for a few turns and only knocked off some wounds. Magic is still terrible for Dark elves as his luck continues to be awful. The Corsairs kill my kitty and set up a charge at my Mournfangs. In my turn, magic doesn't do much but my Cascading Fire-cloak tourches what was left of the witches bar 1 before combat allowing my guts to finish her. Love that spell cheap and cheerful! Leadies kill 2 Warlocks at range. Ironblaster missfires and goes for a spin.
His last turn (before shop closes) Corsairs take 2 wounds of the Fangs and take a few wounds back. No magic again. I counter charge the corsairs in the flank with the guts. The combo of Cascading fire-cloak, flame breath and a nice amount of attacks pretty much smashes the corsairs to bits who break and are run down. Leadies finally kill the Warlock off as well.!
Sorry I didn't get any more pictures. All in all kept cool and won the day. I was very happy with how magic went. Even when he did get dice I felt I made good choices in what to dispel and what not to. Fire-cloak is like an always strikes first against elves and is something you should not forget about. Made combat just embarrassingly easy for me. I had terrible luck to say the least, but also he did not dispel Fire-cloak which is a remains in play and suffered for it. I felt he could have been more aggressive as well.
Totaled up the points (including bonus points for kill the general and claim 2 banners in close combat), he got 92pts from me (kitties and gnoblars) and I went home with 1020pts. (16 - 4 TP's score wise though thats from a normal 2400pts tourny set up I don't know if there is adjusted version for lower point games. Still getting into the Tourny scene.)
Hope you enjoy the read, and my first win against Dark elves (soft list).
Kind regards Zolas.

Congrats on the win mate, sounds like you guys had a blast!
And your Ironblaster looks amazing! I really like how you painted the whole model. It looks really realistic and natural, and this combined with the blue-ish skin on the Ogre works very well. Great work!
And for the point that G_H brought up, I run into the same thing every now and then. Not as bad in the Fantasy side, but in 40k I kinda do lose my focus for an army after I've got a playable army with a couple of extra choices to choose from. But I find that the enthusiasm does find it's way back

Ooh, a league! I really like gaming leagues and campaigns, but unfortunately the campaigns that I've taken part in lately (or well, in the last two-ish years) have ended prematurely due to time schedules of the players getting too complicated for gaming at specific times
Especially the type of leagues that aim for amassing a certain number of units/points before the next game round is something that I enjoy. I've got loads of un-assembled and unpainted models, so having deadlines works for me : D
Keep it up mate! - Loran

I love the idea of a league and a campaign, id love to be involved in both. Sadly the local clubs here play a horrendous amount of different games, meaning they only have a passing interest in each.
Im all for variety but nobody seems to have the staying power for a league or a campaign.
You will have to keep us all up to date with yours

Aye that does seem to be a common problem with leagues were they tend to end suddenly. For this league there are going to go 6 rounds and then have the top 4 players face off for semi finals and a final. Keeping it short and sweet.
Hopefully if there is still interest in then we will get a second one running.

Right been a bit lazy recently in posting on my Gnoblog.
I had my first game in a local league against O+G's before Christmas. Was a fairly nasty game with up's and downs all round. Highlights included his Big spider boss charging 3 leadbelchers in a building and getting spanked! (5 wounds out of 5 dice all 6's!) Lol
A whole unit of 6 ogres taking a charge from 3 wolf chariots and dying horribly. (Those chariots later charged my Ironblaster and failed to kill him and then fled!)
He didn't have much luck with his artillery except pretty much killing my Mournfangs off nice and easy. Got to love doom divers.
The battle was going my way until I charged my Ironguts into his archer horde who then released 3 fanatics all of whom stopped 1 inch in front of the unit thus double the D6 hits so I took 6x D6 hits and my entire irongut unit was wiped out except characters. The characters then basically could not be killed and nearly wiped out the archer horde. They did kill the BSB though which was nice.
All in all a good game. My first game against O+G's properly and a learning curve. I made some clear mistakes and it should be noted he passed nearly all his leadership tests.
Still result was O+G 1210vp's and Ogres 839vp's. 12 - 8 win for the O+G's.
We did have secret missions and both of us choose the "Kill War machine". I killed his Doom Diver with my Ironblaster and He could not killed my Ironblaster for love nor money. This earned me an extra 3 points.
Totaling up 11 League points for myself. Not bad really considering a loss.
Will post up more later as I have a tourny to post up.
Kind regards Zolas.

Hey guys been meaning to post this up for a while but have just been massively waylaid.
I attend a tournament at BIG (Bristol Independent Gaming). It was before Christmas 2014. Its part of a set of 3 tournaments which will add up all the points at the end of the last Tournament and announce the overall winner.
This was an Un comped tournament and did allow end times stiff. This included the end time Characters if people wished. (Luckily the Khaine book had only just come out so they were not allowed in this one.)
Heroes. Bruisier (BSB) CofC, Dragon helm, warrior bane, lookout Gnoblar, HA, IF. Firebelly level 1 Gnoblar Theifstone (wanted to see if I could steal something from my opponents), potion of speed, AHW.
Special. 3 Belchers- bellower. 4 MFC HA, IF Bellower, STD with Dragon Hide. 2 single kitties
Rare. 1 Ironblaster.
Game 1 against really Nice chap called Pano from Gloucester using his dwarfs!
This was a good game for me. I got into combat turn 2 and really busted heads. The main combat with my guts and his hammers could have gone either way but he had an unlucky LD roll and I ran down his lord. Amassing notes were 1 kitty and a cannon crew fighting for 3 turns straight and nothing happening! At the end of the battle he only had his BSB who passed a leadership test needing a 6 in combat and remained the last dwarf standing!
Win for the ogres 16 4. Pano was a really sporting opponent and luck was not with him. Would be happy to play this chap at any time. Fantastic bloke.
Game 2 against Mark from Exeter and his empire army. He had Karl Franz ascended, steam tank, 4 chicken knights a unit of Inner circle knights and 3 units of archers.
This game surprisingly did not go my way. Karl Franz went to town to say the least wiping out a fair amount of my army on his own. Nasty fella. However I felt I did well I only had my leadbelchers and Ironblaster (1 wound) at the end and had managed to kill his steam tank 2 units of archers (1 unit panicked off board by Brain gobbler!) and his unit of inner circle knights getting spanked but my unit of ogre bulls with +1 strength buff.
Loss for the Ogres 2 18. Happy with this considering Karl Franz ascended was in the fight and I didnt get 20 0.
Game 3 against Matt from Bristol (Vanguard) and his skaven. (2 warp lightning cannons and 2 doom wheels.
This was a rather frustrating battle. I struggled to kill the doom wheels all battle. My Ironblaster blew up his own gun turn 1. He wasnt having much luck with his warp lightning cannons eithers (10 missfires in a row over the tournament) Both of us being a little frustrated with the dice gods!
Another Loss for the Ogres 7 13. Not too bad was hoping for more of a draw here but hey thats how it goes.
Game 4 against Dave Musgrave (Bristol Vangaurd) and his Empire Knight army. Luthor, Marius and a runefang general. (2 runefangs in total :S)
This was a great battle against my former tournament partner from my Halloween Tourny. Proper blood bath resulting in about 2 units left each. It could have gone my way but a bit of bad luck on re-rollable Ld test saw my general and BSB killed. If they could have held 1 more turn I could have counter charged and wiped his last unit. Either way lots of serious combat!
Draw! 10 10. Probably my favourite game of the tourney. Really light hearted and funny. Dave is a great opponent and a top player looking for fun of all!
Of 17 players I came 12th which Im fairly happy with. Bear in mind this tourney is part of a set of 4. You get 50pts for each tourney attended. 1st place gets 30pts, second 20pts and 3rd 10pts. After that you get points depending how many players there are and what position you came.
I got 6 pts for my 12th position so this leave me with a total 56pts currently.
Next tourney is in march and has an interesting comp. Heres the link for the next one for those that are interested.

Well attended the Second Tides of War tournament held by BIG on the 8th of March.
Interesting comp. No lords period! only 1 unit from any entry can be taken except core which are restricted to 2. So for ogres only 1 choice from any entry including heroes, special and rare.
For ogres this posed a small problem for me as heroes level wizards only have Ld 7 and Bruisers are our only option for BSB. However, I had a thought that I could still use special characters I decided to use Golgfag maneater as the army general with standard of discipline in the unit of maneaters in order to get around the Ld problem.
My List:
Heroes. Golgfag Maneater - 260pts. (Equipment focus here was to get Crown of command). Brusier BSB - Talisman of endurance, Enchanted shield, Ironcurse Icon, Biting Blade, Look-out Gnoblar, Heavy armour. - 189pts. Firebelly level 2 - Dispel scroll, Ruby ring of ruin, AHW. - 207pts. Butcher level 2 - Gruuts sickle, Great weapon. - 194pts.
Core. 9x Ironguts - Full command. - 417pts. 3x Ogres - AHW. - 93pts. 3x Ogres - AHW. - 93pts. 10x Gnoblar trappers - 50pts.
Special. 4x Mournfangs - Bellower, Standard, Dragon Hide banner. - 350pts. 7x Maneaters - Full command, Standard of Discipline, Look-out Gnoblar, 3x AHW (On FC), 2x Great weapons, Heavy armour. - 456pts. (Posion + Immune to psychology). 1x Sabertusk - 21pts.
Rare. 1x Ironblaster. - 170pts.
Game 1. Against Adam from Bath and his High elves.
Adam had large unit of white lions lead by Korhil (General). silver helm unit, spear elves, phoenix guard 2 units of archers, shadow warriors,1 bolt thrower and 1 white lion chariot.
Golgfag rolled a healthy 90pts getting him crown of command, Armour of destiny and Rock eye. Generally this battle went my way. My Ironblaster killed the white lion chariot. My Mournfangs made a long charge to the silver helms and wiped them out with no return wounds. They later wiped out a unit of archers. Firebelly cooked the bolt thrower and a fair amount of elves here and there with use of fireball. On the right flank 1 unit of ogres and my kitty dispatched the shadow warriors the kitty later dies to a rivers dangerous terrain test. The ogres managed to flank charged the archer unit (larger unit) which survived the initial charge and finished them off. Oh well.
Finally the main event was my Ironguts and Maneaters dual charging the White lions and wiping out all of them except Korhil who died in the next phase by Golgfags hand. At this point my Ironguts got flanked by the phoenix guard and I lost the combat. The Ironguts held but amusingly my maneaters ran. I charged the rare of the phoenix guard with my Ironblaster only doing 1 impact hit and killing a phoenix guard. The phoenix guard then made every save expected of them and won combat. Ironblaster ran and the Ironguts killed. Btattle ends.
1494pts for the Ogres, 790pts for the High elves. 14 6 Win to the ogres!
Game 2. Against Dave Musgraves Empire.
1 large Knight bus inner circle, 1 steam tank, 1 cannon, 1 hellblaster, witch hunter, level 2 heavens wizard, Luther, priest, and an engineer. Also 2 units handgunners, 1 unit cross bow men, 1 unit archers, 1 unit of halberds, 1 unit great swords plus free company.
Golgfag only rolled 30pts this time round. Not enough for Crown of command but got him glittering scales and rock eye.
This was a very typical me and Dave battle that ended in our standard way. Dave set all his missile troops on his left flank and everything else on the right. I had my Mournfangs 1 unit of ogres and a sabertusk plus my ironblaster. Everything else went opposite is main forces.
I took first turn. I advanced everything aggressively forward. My units in striking distance with their missile troops. Ironblaster hit the hellblaster only to do 2 wounds!
My troops on the right flank basically collapsed. Mournfangs taking losses and running and my ogres and saber failing easy charges. My maneaters charged and spent a few turns beating living hell out of the steam tank. Ironguts made a longish charged against the inner circle knights and wiped them out in 1 turn. My Ironguts eventually getting killed by the great swords. My maneaters after killing the tank went on a rampage wiping out the halberd unit, 1 unit of hand gunners, the cannon and the unit of crossbow men. Charge and forced already fleeing archers of the board.
This battle basically ended in quite a mess. Dave getting 1620pts and me getting 1490pts. 10 10 draw!
Game 3. Against Ross Stevenson and his own Ogres.
Ross was running 1 butcher (Ld 7 general), 1 firebelly, 1 BSB, 1 hunter on stonehorn, 1 ironblaster, 1 kitty, 2 units of Gnoblars, 1 large unit of bulls and medium unit of Ironguts. Also 1 scrap launcher and 1 unit of 6 lead belchers.
Golgfag rolled another 90pts and ran with Crown of command, armour of destiny, rock eye.
Fair amount of bad luck for me at the start of this battle with my Ironblaster blowing himself up on the first turn. Lead blechers putting holes into a few units. His Gnoblars and my Gnoblars going at it and mine getting run down. My Ironguts eventually got their hands on the lead belchers and killed them panicking off the scrap launcher. They were later killed by a flank charge from the Stonehorn hunter who had been held up by a flank charge from 1 of my 3 man ogre units. My maneaters charged His Ironguts and showed them why maneaters hurt. 12 wounds before the guts even struck. They broke and ran and were cut down. Ironblaster panicked of the board as well. The maneaters then charged and killed the unit of bulls. Golgfag nearly getting killed by the firebelly but surviving on 1 wound.
After all was said and done Ross had 2012pts and I had 2204pts. Granting me a 11 9 win.
Conclusion.
Great tournament. Loved the comp and really loved using Golgfag Maneater! He never died and with him and his nasty unit of maneaters the really dished out the pain! Golgfag and the maneater captain alone having 6 attacks each at strength 5! I found the small units of ogres very useful in my games. Not wimps by any means and enough of a threat to generate target saturation. Also seeing a Stonehorn in use against me, really gets me wanting to get mine up and running.
All in all I finished 9th out of 22. Also I was highest Ogre player. (Out of 3 I believe but not certain). Very happy with the result considering some of my bad luck. If I had gotten off some of the charges I needed in the second game it really could have changed the outcome.
With this result I am now placed currently 6th in the Tides of war series. I am hoping the next 2 events will work in my favour and gain myself a higher position. Hope you enjoyed the read.
Kind regards Zolas.

This is a great over-view of your games and it sounds like you had a great time! Nice to see a majority of wins for your fatties too!
I have never really used Golgfag, so its interesting to hear how effective he was for you. I am more surprised that the small units of fat-boys with AHW turned out to be useful. Its probably something I would not have considered doing myself. When I get a chance to actually play some more games soon (I have nearly sorted my life out and moved house etc etc) I may give this a try. I would certainly like to see if I can use Golgfag with the same king of success!
Anyway, nice work on the report and it appears you had a good time to boot! Excellent stuff Zolas.

This is a great over-view of your games and it sounds like you had a great time! Nice to see a majority of wins for your fatties too!
I have never really used Golgfag, so its interesting to hear how effective he was for you. I am more surprised that the small units of fat-boys with AHW turned out to be useful. Hey G_H! Good to see your posts again!
Yeah I did really enjoy the event. Was very happy with my performance. Tactically I didn't feel I made any mistakes. My movements went well and the only thing that really let me was dice rolls. The second game could have been very different if I had made those charges.
As for the units of 3 fat boys with AHW's I got the idea from Jimmy and his awesome Batreps. 93pts so cheap as chips. And you should really get some Golgfag time in!
I have another tournament to report on soon. (Lightning Strike 14th and 15th March 2015). So that should go up soon too.
Kind regards Zolas.

Indeed. It's mainly down to the interesting comp used. Here's a link so you have a better look at the rules and comp set up. I would highly recommend just doing some friendly matches using this comp. You can really get some nice unusual lists.
Kind regards Zolas.

Sooooooooooo...... I have been rather busy lately but I thought I would finally post something. Been working a little bit on a giant. Finally got round to adding a chain to him and wanted to share. I have given him a Gutplate from the thundertusk shoulder and horns from the mournfangs. I also gave him an Iron fist of his own made up from Ironblaster parts and ogre gut plates along with an ogre sword for extra stabbyness! There is also some green stuff around for leather strapping (also on the ironfist) which I carved some mountain shapes into. You can see them on some of the close up shots. The chain is also threaded through his collar as well (got this from a model train convention, happy days!)
I hope you guys like his start. here you go.
I hope you like him. Any comments are welcome.
Kind regards Zolas.
P.S. Nice to be posting again.
