I've always read other's gnoblogs but never did one of my own.  I guess its time I give back, (even if its just to show people what NOT to do by example)

I wanted to do my ogre army in a theme of them living in the wasteland after the great maw came.  I tried to paint them as dirty and as ugly as I could.  I've tried to base them to keep with the theme.

I'll just do some quick pictures of the army as it is now, and then update as normal. I have more WIP pictures of things if anyone is actually interested in those.  http://www.flickr.com/photos/sigmar13/sets/72157626864701248/

That's not everything, but I thought it would be a good introduction.

Nice! Very cool skin tone, is it a bit of green in it?

Clean those mold lines and keep showing your army!
It was a terrible, indescribable thing vaster than any subway train—a shapeless congeries of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and un-forming as pustules of greenish light all over the tunnel-filling front that bore down upon us, crushing the frantic penguins and slithering over the glistening floor that it and its kind had swept so evilly free of all litter.

Since learning about the new maneater options, I've been planning on making a unit of Scout/Sniper maneaters with braces of pistols.  It's a gimmicky unit, but even if they don't manage to snipe your character, they're still a unit of maneaters my opponent has to deal with.

Anyways instead of just getting 3 or 4 ogres with pistols and calling them maneaters, I wanted to do something crazy... Ogre snipers. The best part is that I was able to pull it off using an ogre head, a kroot rifle(if I can find a more suitable rifle I'll swap it out, but when you think about it whats more ogrish than a gun with 2 knives on the ends), and an old t-shirt.

So I rolled up some of tshirt bits I cut out to make the ogre body.

I cut another square of cloth to cover the body then its just putting the head and gun on the model.

What self respecting sniper would go to war without facepaint

Then cover the whole base with tall grass for him to peek out of (it also hides the fact that there is no body or anything under the cover.)

I decided that the maneater sniper unit is going to need a standard bearer so I can take the flaming banner.  A huge flag would look rather stupid so after talking it over with some friends (sorry I don't remember who made the original sign suggestion) I decided on a little wooden sign.

I bought a pack of "craft sticks" from target and got to cutting.

Eventually I decided on the following pieces to make my sign.

After some practice on scrap pieces, (I knew I would only get 1 try at this or else I would have to rebuild it) I got to painting.

AAAAAANNNNDDDDD finally, the finished model.

Now I just need to get off my butt and finish the other 3 snipers.  I just need to finish painting and basing them.  On sunday I fielded them as 4 sniper scout ME w/ brace of Ogre pistols and HA.  They performed like champs.

I've been meaning to do some objective markers for a while, so I've decided to start working on one of them.   I'm going to make a little outhouse and then attach it to a 40mm base.  You might be thinking why would an army be fighting over an outhouse, and I think that's exactly why I want to make it my objective.  Maybe someone is hiding in it, maybe there is a hidden magical item in it... maybe the general had a some REALLY spicy food the night before....

I still have a bunch of craft sticks from the sign/standard for the maneaters, so I'm working with them again

Its a little rough looking, but what outhouse isn't.

I wanted to make it a different color than my sign so I decided to actually paint this instead of just throwing devlan mud wash all over it.

I wanted to get it on a 40mm base and add the moon to the door, but after a few dozen tries at painting the half moon on some spare wood, I've decided I'm probably too tired to try doing any more work tonight.

Fantastic! I did an outhouse once as well, for the same reason: it's unexpected, so it's fun :D

Took me long enough, but I finished the Maneater Sniper Unit.

I've all but finished with the outhouse.  I would like to get a little crecent moon on the door but after about 100 attempts I don't know if I'll be able to.  I had a few attempts that I probably should have kept, but I was trying to be a perfectionist with it and now I'm just so pissed at it I'm not gonna try again tonight.

So today I finished up my poor man's display board.  As with most things, I prefer stuff to be functional and practical.  This is where the inspiration came from for my display board.  I wanted something that I would be able to use to tote my army around from table to table at the tournaments.

I eventually decided that one of those breakfast in bed, kind of serving trays would do the trick.  I started with the KLACK tray from IKEA.  Why this tray, because I live right next to an IKEA and it was 8.00.

I painted the white part of the tray the same color that I paint the bases of my Ogres, then after it dried, applied glue and the rocks.

TADA!  That's it.  Its not the most interesting display board, but that's on purpose. Its functional, matches the look (if crappy can be considered a "look"), and was pretty cheap.  I'm considering painting the rim part of the tray black, just to give it some contrast.  That's what I like the most about this tray, the rim is wood so it shouldn't be too tough to paint whatever color I want.

I am currently working on a hill and some trees that match the board/bases that I can put on the board to spice it up a bit.. Plus how many times have you said the words "Do we have any more terrain?"    Just remove them from the display board and place them on the battlefield.

I'm eventually going to do a lava theme'd  board(to match the bases) for my tau and my next project which is a custom 40k marine chapter and I think I'll take what I've learned here and improve on it.  This tray work Ogre army (and probably for any other "Elite" army) but I don't think you'd be able to squeeze a goblin or skaven army on there.  I hope I can find something similar in function only a bit bigger.

Hehehe thank you very much sir.  I'm just glad that they seem to always make back their points and some!  Once i finished them, I was afriad they wouldn't work out and I wouldn't be able to field my favorite models in my whole army.  I've actually considered expanding the unit to 8, and not scouting them, but I've sniped enough wizards and bsb's that they will be scout snipers for a long long time.

Nothing too huge to add, but inspired by the Gnoblar army in the Armies of the Kingdom forum.  I've started to work on some "unit filler" for my gnoblars.  I thought I'd make some traps and put them on bases to represent them being Gnoblar Trappers.

Using nothing but a chopstick I got with some chinese food, my dremel tool, and a rock from my driveway; I was able to make these 2 in relatively short order.

Pointy stick trap

Deadfall Trap

In the unit

I have a couple more traps I wanna do, and then I'll start not-so-mass production of them to bolster the ranks of my gnoblar units.  I'm thinking maybe doing 1 trap for every 5 gnoblars so it doesn't get overused, but is still noticeable.

Inspired by the awesome work of Omaeshin on his gnoblog  (I highly recommend you look at his because mine pale in comparison)  I started working on my spell markers again.  I had already done some of them (Toothcracker and Spine Marrow) but Trollguts and Bullgorger required some greenstuff work and I've had VERY mixed results on sculpting in the past.

Spinemarrow

Toothcracker

Bullgorger

Trollguts

I also started working on some Lore of Fire ones.

Cascading Fire Cloak

I'm going to attach the flaming cloak to a gnoblar or something once it's dried and painted.

Flaming Sword of Rhuin

Fulminating Flame Cage

I have a skeleton that I'm going to put in the ring of fire once its painted.

I've also partially finished 2 more gnoblar traps.  Anyone who's assembled a unit of bulls with ironfists (and I'm guessing if you're here, you have)  knows where these come from.  I just cut the hand out of them.

Got my spell markers finished.  I like that way that MOST of them turned out.  I think I might want to take another shot at flaming sword, but it'll work for now.

Gnoblar Leadbelcher

I really want to make a full unit of these, but it doesn't look too out of place in my regular leadbelchers unit or it works a pretty neat unit filler.

I also managed to hammer out 28 more gnoblars.

Whowie, I don´t know where to start!

The hiding ogres made me chukkle out loud so my girlfriend asked me what I was up to! Talk about getting lots of points for little money with those maneaters ;D You outhouse and roadrunner traps are great aswell! :D

And thanks for your kind words! I´m quite proud that you hand me the honour of getting you to do your own magic markers, who are great btw! I like the Ichor coming out of the trollguts... make you visualise how toxic that stuff is :D

But dude, I won´t get a Firebelly for quite a while due to my slow armyprogress, but I´m copying your fire-spellmarkers! That "Flaming Sword of Ruin" makes my eyes glow! @,@

PS. I don´t know if it´s annoying or fun, but I´m working on a gnoblar unitfiller 40 x 40 mm too... with gnoblars operating a big cannon aswell! Damn you! No more mind reading for you mister... *puts on aluminumhat*

I am going to try running a Purple Sun/Flying caster setup and to accomplish this, I'm going to be using an Slaughtermaster and have him ride the Arabyan Flying Carpet from the main rulebook.  So I decided to model the flying carpet, but because I don't want to have to ALWAYS use it.  I magnetized my SM's feet and now have the option to do both.

There are magnets hidden under the carpet so that the SM won't fall off.(I am using the metal model for this)

Facing ogres is like facing an avalanche.

Thanks for the flying carpet slaughtermaster idea.  Is that a flying base upside down or did you attach something else flat to the top?  What material is that carpet made out of?

Thanks,  I've actually had to go back and add a pin to the feet of the Slaughtermaster.  I guess the magnets have started to weaken or something.... Also there is an issue when having to place him on solid ground.  I'm considering getting the Arabayan Maneater and converting him a little into a Slaughtermaster.  Probably wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't the metal SM.

Haven't been doing a ton with my ogres recently because I've been focused on my space marine army, but now that I'm closing in on it's completion (ok well by completion I mean having over 2k points assembled, converted, and painted) I'm starting to get back into my true love.

(Enough rambling, on with the Ogre stuff)

Much like I did with my Ogre snipers, I'm going to try working my "Poorhammer"  magic on a unit of Yhettie.  My idea is to make some nasty looking snowmen for as cheaply as possible.  If it works out, AWESOME!  If not, I throw it away and call it a day.

Some very early WIP pics

So I'm sure I'm not the first one to think of this idea, and maybe not the first dumb enough to try it, but I couldn't find anyone else who had so I figured I'd give it a shot.  As of right now, I've spent:
$10 on styrofoam balls
$3 on a cold temp hot glue gun
$2.50 on the bag of Square bases from GW (There are bunch of bases in the bag, so I'm calling the bases for this 1/4 of the price)

So as of right now, that's $3.10 per Yhettie. Compare that to 17.33 per model that GW charges for their finecast ones.

More pictures as I get closer to completion of the first model, unless it's awful... in which case I'll never mention it again!

After having not painted anything new for my ogre army in a loooong time, I decided to take a break from painting hideous bikes, and paint some hideous ogres.

I've almost finished the first of my Mournfangs

The other thing I've been working on is converting my old 6th edition brick Steamtank.  After stripping it, reassembling all the broken parts (I haven't used this model is about a decade), and gluing a bunch of ogrey looking bitz down, we get this.
(Please excuse the poor photography)

I can't wait to get home tonight and start putting some paint onto it.

I ran up against the deadline of a tournament so I spent the night before slapping paint everywhere trying to make this look decent enough to show in public. I'll be the first to admit that it could use some major touch-ups. My photography skills don't do it much justice either, I feel it looks pretty good sitting next to my other Ogre stuff.

To add to my collection of spell markers, I made myself a comet.
