New Forum Software

As you can see I've upgraded the forum software from old, easily hacked, feature lacking, unsecure PHPBB2 to fresh, fast loading, highly secure, feature rich SMF.  This forum software really is the best on the market right now
SMF is actually the evolution of the forum software I had used when the Stronghold forum was first created (known as YaBB SE), so some of it may already be familiar to a few of you.

Anyways you'll be happy to hear I've transferred everything over from the old forum, including your accounts and all of the topics and posts.  The only thing that didn't make it across are your avatars, but feel free to upload them to my server via the avatar setting in your profiles.

Some things have changed in regards to the layout of the forum as well as a few of the forum section names, and although it looks a bit grey and boring right now (it's the default template) I will be putting more work into my own forum template in the coming days to make it a bit more homely and Ogrey
There are lots of new features for both members and moderators alike, and I've yet to unlock a couple of the best (they just need a few tweaks first).

Oh and don't forget, the 7th is the 3rd - 9/9/06.

IMO, the old one was better! Will this have buttons and skin? Will the "View posts since last visit" work soon? What the heck?

The forum won't remain looking like this, it will be made to look more like the old forum and the website. Just give me a bit of time to sort out the template, colour codes, logo and images
Extra features like a quick reply box require further work but will be along soon (it wasn't a standard feature of the old forum software either).

The main driving force of this update to new software was the security issue, PHPBB2 forums are much easier to hack and susceptible to automated spam bots (which I'd been having problems with over the last couple of months), and with the amount of Warhammer forums and websites being hacked recently it's better to keep with the times as forum technology advances.

Nice work, Hragged! Thanks for being proactive about security, and putting so much effort into this site.

...btw, I did notice the RSS feed isn't active anymore, at least not at the old address. No biggie, but please let us know if it does come back.

The ArchGerbil is pleased to see the Stronghold advance in the ways of technology even though the ArchGerbil is personally dead scared of technology(Tech BAD!!!). Many shall be the crys as the ArchGerbil nibbles on their toes!!!

Yeah the feed addresses have changed, and they are active right now (unlike PHPBB they are a standard feature in SMF, you should already see the RSS logo image in your browser). You'll just need to bookmark them again at their new addresses

Since everything seems to be running smoothly, I've removed the old forum and repositioned this forum from www.ogrestronghold.com/forums to the usual www.ogrestronghold.com/forum.

Ok, maybe I'm just being a knucklehead, but I can't find the RSS icon, or the address. Where should I look for it? I'm running IE6.0.2 if that means anything.

Ah OK, I don't think IE6 ever got RSS features properly built in.
I take it you used the RSS button I placed at the bottom of the last forum to get the feed before?

In IE7 and Firefox this symbol appears in the browser address bar when a feed is available for the page you're viewing:
In those browsers all you have to do is click on the icon and it'll save the feed as a live bookmark folder that updates the links within it as new stuff is posted on the forum (from whatever section or thread you were in when you saved the feed bookmark):

I've actually been using a site called Netvibes (www.netvibes.com) as my homepage, which allows the user to customize windows with different RSS feeds- the Ogre Stronghold is one of the feeds I monitor.
