The Tribe of Olaf Menschenfresser

original thread ↗

Well, this is the army I need to paint up within the next two months. I made a list today which I'm going to try out wednesday. This is the list:

Slaughtermaster - 385
Level 4, Lore of the Maw, Fencers' Blades, Greedy Fist, Glittering Scales

Butcher - 188
Level 2, Lore of Beasts, Hellheart, Ironfist

Bruiser - 184
Battle Standard, Armour of Destiny, Ironfist

11 Ogres - 393
Light Armour, Ironfists, Full Command

9 Ironguts - 432
Full Command, Standard of Discipline

10 Trappers - 50

5 Maneaters - 340
Heavy Armour, Brace of Ogre Pistols, Sniper, Poisoned Attacks, Captain

1 Sabretusk - 21

1 Sabretusk - 21

Thundertusk - 250

Total: 2399

And this is the army:

Trappers

11 Ogres, BSB on the right, Butcher on the left

9 Ironguts, Slaughtermaster on the left

5 Maneaters, I'm thinking of making another 4, all with cowboy hats and call them The Daltons  8)

The only one that is close to finished painted

Record since new book:

Looking great!
Love the idea of the Slaughtermaster and the Butcher leading from the front, should put the fear of the Great Maw up most opponents-which is nice :D

One criticsim, and please don't take it the wrong way-The cowboy hats sound like a lot of fun, and alot of work-Try sourcing them from kids toys like Playmobil might be a bit big, Lego, or even Timpo from Ebay etc-Saves a lot of work in the time span and you can always go back and model them later with GS etc

Cheers mate!

How can that possibly be take the wrong way? Sounds awesome! Just need to find some more handguns and cowboy hats and then I'm good to go! :D
Of course I have lke 20 handgunners that I never use, can always pull thos apart, and pistoliers! Wow, never thought my 4k Empire army would come to use! :)

For handguns, try the Warlord ECW range.
When you mentioned the idea of Pistoliers, I thought of the WG cavalry.
If you want some as an idea to work with then pop me a pm and I'll get a few in the post. I really like them as they're plastic and so easy to work with and the Warlord guys seem to know their stuff when it comes to detail. they look very small compared to OK stuff but if they aren't much to your taste for sheer BOOM factor (and I know they aren't quite as bombastic as I'd like for my Leadbelchers). They are however a very cheap alternative to GW Pistoliers/riders and whilst small ie realistic for 28mm, they really do look the biz.
Then again, some of the Playmobil Cowboy/cavalry sets have Colt style pistols. Not great on details but at least you get a dhalf decent chamber wo work with. The barrel is easy, but to do a Colt Navy (for example) chamber in GS, well I wouldnt like to attempt it. The holsters and bandoliers wouldnt even be so bad, the chambers etc, well thats something else.
Alternatively, the selection of cannon/mortar available from Redoubt or better still Renegade (not a plug but such a nice guy to deal with) would look great fielded as six shooters.
I actually started a Dalek Steam powered ACW Confederate drone for a mate using cut up cotton buds for a Gattling Gun style barrel for some very large scale modelling for him. I REALLY have to get i finished but I fear it may be Christmas before I get the oppurtunity to do so...oh I miss painting and modelling...soon to start again though soon.....:)

it took me a moment to realise what looked wrong about that BSB. consider for a moment that the skull of the stonehorn is in fact... stone. and probably very, very heavy. really doesnt seem credible that the ogre would be able to stand under the weight of it let alone it be precariously perched atop a long pole. assuming he were able to lift it, a few degrees of movement and it would topple over!
Heavy? It's a bruiser! He's probably killed it and made stoneburgers out of it! Of course he can carry it :)

I agree about the pole though, I might make it stick in his hand instead, or perhaps make it shorter or something. Played a game with him today and he really does look awesome on the battlefield. He was in a large unit of Ogres (3 wide) and the banner was wider than the unit :D

You could drop the banner down considerably, for flavor I would consider adding some gnoblars with pole to "help" support it.
What if you did something like this for the back banner;

If my awful, awful, Paint mockup wasn't clear, that's 3 much shorter poles (big spikes? Elephant tusks? If they were curved it'd probably look better) in brown, and then the rope tying the skull on is in red. The rope across the face I don't think looks great (maybe it should go vertically through the eye sockets and then tie to the pole behind the skull, so the cross over is hidden), but had made to many edits for Paint to undo it.

reg06 has the right idea! would be awesome, much more stable and credible, whilst looking even more 'ogrey'
Looks good.  Instead of tied on another way to go would be hooks either through the sockets or through the skull and horns.  If I get the chance I know a gnoblar eating is going on a horn, I just have to justify the kits the missus.
Reg06, that's a brilliant idea! And it's looking even better than in IRL, your paint skills are truly that of a master ;)

I'm getting back to work on the army tonight, need to have some painting done :)

Undercoated some Ironguts today, will have them finished by friday I hope.

Two of the gorgers I'll be using. Borrowed these from a friends VC army (ghoul unit fillers) so I can't take credit for the paint job. I'll be painting my gorger to match these two though. That's also close to the type of basing I'll be using.

Much better idea with the BSB, that looks awesome! Is the banner pole and standard from the Mournfang kit?

Btw consider your mate's Gorger idea completely stolen! I've had a box of Chaos Spawn sitting around for a couple of years now, and this seems like the perfect opportunity to actually use it!
Please Sir, can I have some Maw? - VN's Ogre log

Thanks mate! Actually the pole and the standard is one piece and taken from the Thundertusk kit, I realised if I was ever going to use a monster it will be the stonehorn so no need for all that thundertusk stuff :)

That'a a great idea! I think I have about 4 Chaos Spawns lying around as well, hey, if I ever play skrag :)

Things are coming along.

Mournfang beasties are close to finished, will hopefully have the riders done today as well so that they're finished.

The Ogres, Maneaters and Ironguts are finished and based with black sand (going to paint all bases and grass them later on)

Working desk, it's WAY too big, takes up most of my living room right now.

So far I have yet to finish before friday:
BSB, Slaughtermaster, 1 Gorger and 3 Diretusks (direwolf sabretusk conversions, cheap and quick!) and of course basing the entire army.

It's now 02:30, Friday the 4th of November. I AM DONE! FINISHED!

I just based the entire army and glued dead grass on their bases.

Going to a team tournament tomorrow (well, it's past midnight so technically today), kind of like a mini-ETC with four players per team and I'll be joined by O&G, Dwarfs and Skaven. Currently there are 17 teams coming and I have this feeling we'll end up in 7th place, don't know why though.

Sadly my camera is out of batteries but I will put some pictures of the army after the tournament :)

Cheers!

Wow! You have been very efficient!
I was following your Gnoblog, and was very curious to see if you would make it...
Even though you don't have pictures yet, I'm sure your army looks great, the minis you've already shown are really nice, I especially like the way you work on metallic parts.

Anyway good luck on the tournament, make us proud to be fat. :P

Oh, and have a Gnoblar for your hard work. ;)

Greyback pelt, where have you gone?
Cheers Kay! Here come the pictures!

Army. Close ups of everything further down.

Here are my three Diretusks (or "puppies" as I call them), dire wolves with fur instead of all the mushy gooey stuff.

Three Gorgers, only the "real" one painted by me though.

8 Bulls (ogres).

9 Ironguts

6 Maneaters with Brace of Ogre Pistols and Heavy Armour

4 Mournfangs with Dragonhide banner (of course).

Bruiser BSB with look-out gnoblar

In his rightful place

Slaughtermaster

In his soon-to-be rightful place (I'm laying down hellheart+carpet and going for fencers, scales, fist combo, also with discipline banner the whole army is Ld9 instead of 8, makes a hell of a difference).

Our team placed 8th out of 19 teams at the tournament. We were in 6th place before the last match (facing swedens Dark Elf ETC players team, but that's good because that means we had a chance at 3d place, if only we had beaten them..) and if only I had remembered the stomp attacks from Mournfangs we might have ended up 7th. TWO hammerers were left and they would have easily died by the 5 stomp attacks I forgot and then his BSB would have died as well and I would have ran into a machine or two. But hey, we all make mistakes and sometimes they cost us our games. I'm thinking of tattooing the word STOMP on my hand though..

Now I'm removing ONE gorger and ONE bull and inserting a level 1 Beast butcher with dispel scroll instead and the slaughtermaster will join the Ironguts instead of flying around by himself.

Now I can get back to my beastmen, 2500 points needs to be painted, deadline: Christmas

I agree with Reg about those green parts, they do stand out in a weird way... but the rest is gorgeous, the maneaters are really great especially the guy with the chinese(?) hat, he has badass written all over him. :)

Too bad for the forgotten stomps, it's a mistake I tend to do often... a tattoo, well... maybe not, but I might right "stomp" on the back of one of my banners... :P

LOVE the MFC!!  I like them alot more without the tusks.  the LoGnobo is cool too.  Stick with the green "teeth" on the banner, but make them look like warpstone or jade, and it will be good.

I'm gonna dismantle my spawn I have and copy your buddy's idea, too cool!

great use of the tied up guy from the stonehorn bits!

Army well done!

GutChef
My wife says I cheat at games; I don't cheat, I just don't learn all the rules!

Cheers guys!

I wanted the green teeth on the maw banner to look a little magical but the army isn't finished yet, just playable ;)

Highlighting to do:
All pants on bulls and maneaters
All green stone
Bull standard
ALL skin on ALL ogres (needs to be a little lighter)

So the army isn't finished yet, but on hold for now and Beastmen have taken their current place. Then I need to go over and finish the Ogres, re-base my entire goblin army (196 models..*sigh*..) to have magnetic bases but after that I'll have three fully painted armies. Looking forward to it :)

Today I actually attempted playing a HORDE! using the swedish composition system that can be found here: http://forum.sverok.se/download/file.php?id=2644

I used this list:

Tyrant – 280
Sword of Bloodshed, Ironfist, Heavy Armour

Slaughtermaster – 345
Fencer’s Blades, Glittering Scales

Bruiser – 184
Battle Standard Bearer, Heavy Armour, Talisman of Preservation, Enchanted Shield

Butcher – 149
Beast lore, Great Weapon, Dispel Scroll, The other trickster’s shard

Firebelly – 179
Obsidian Lodestone, Potion of Speed

12 Ogres – 419
Full Command, Look-Out Gnoblar, Ironfists

5 Ironguts – 270
Musician, Standard, War Banner

6 Maneaters – 441
Full Command, Heavy Armour, Brace of Ogre Pistols, Banner of Swiftness, Poisoned Attacks, Swiftstride

1 Sabretusk – 21

1 Sabretusk – 21

1 Sabretusk – 21

1 Ironblaster – 170

Total: 2500

Comp: 10,2

I completely massacred my friends O&G. He had 20 Night Gobbos remaining on the field and I had lost 2 sabres and the maneaters (last round, d'oh!).

The horde worked well, anyone is afraid to walk into five ogre charactets, especially when equipped like that and having another 30 regular ogre-attacks :)

I'm going to try this horde thing next time, it was kinda fun!

Wow, impressive work! I really like your maneaters, really balanced conversions. Something about them makes them very smooth for the eye to look at, but I have to admit it, I am sold on your friend's unitfiller gorgers. What's the bitz recipe for them? Is it alot of GS or just pure plastic?

Also, a pet gnoblar for "Der Menschenfresser" :D agreed, everything sounds cooler in german. You bench aprox. double the weight when listening to Rammstein ;)

Think of it as a magic glove, like Michael Jackson use to wear, you could even model your character up grabbing at his crotch.

Haha! Cheers Danne! Ja, det är jag på bilden och dreadsen är så långa att de börjar kittla i stjärtskåran ;)

I currently have 7 maneaters, I'll be making a unit filler for the 8th one, a bunch of barrels of gunpowder and the gunpowder monkey guy from the Handgunner set and some other stuff, gnoblars perhaps :)

I've you haven't tried playing maneaters with poison and BoOP, do it! You'll never go back to not using them! With swiftstride and banner of swiftness they're only 1" slower than Mournfangs, WS4, S5 with poison and so on, we don't have a stronger unit in our army, especially one that can scare greater daemons :)

Hahaha, in the list I'm planning on basing my army on, I have 6 poison/swiftstride maneaters :D missed out on the banner though :)

Uhm, how about my gorger question? :)

Haha, fan va mysigt :D

Oh right!

The Gorgers are simply Chaos Spawns with ogre heads and hands, then some fur sculpted on. The cheeks of the heads are filed down as well so they look a lot skinnier.

I personally will be using the new plastic gorgers GW released last week for my army though, see them here: http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2130403a_99120207017_CryptHorror01_873x627.jpg

Those with some fur instead of the open wounds and badam! Three gorgers! You could just paint them pale and purplish like mine and they're done right out of the box :)

Thanks :)

Yeah, I considered those too when I saw the VC release :) They really do look beast! And they are perfect size-wise, which is kind of unusual for an ogre player to be blessed with! I'd keep em' as they are though, not adding any fur (the spikes looks great in my opinion. if you still like fur though, you are provided some fur for the vargheists). I don't even think you need to switch heads! With some chaos magic, that could very well be the way an ogre/gorger head would look like. The only thing I don't like about them is probably that stupid tablet one of them is holding, but hey, could always be swapped for a regular ogre weapon, or perhaps something else.

I'll keep myself updated on your gnoblog, I'd really like to see how those could turn out!

I think they look a lot nicer than mine. I'm currently in the "horde-mode" so not many gorgers fit in my list but I usually play 3 of them in my armies, they just give me so much and at only 270p, it's a bargain :)

Well, I wouldn't know as I haven't played my first game yet, I've just read the brb and our book a couple of times and lurked around the forum for almost half a year (wow, time runs by), but they seem like a cool choice! I'll hopefully get my hands on skrag + 6-7 gorgers when I've finished putting together a decent 2400pointer :-)

Wow, I'm good at drifting away. Anyhoe, take care så kanske vi hörs!

Haha wow, that is true! Haha, such a small world.

Uhm, reason I haven't played my first game is of economical reasons. After all, this aint a cheap hobby, so 2000 will be very hard to complete... In a couple of months my 1000 list should be finished :O I'd love to come down to Halmstad for some games though (when I have enough models, that is)
