Ogre lovestory..... Bad Santa

original thread ↗

Hi, this will be my first post on the forum, but I have been luring in the background for quite some time. But I felt that now was the time to take my rightful place in the wondrous place called Ogre Stronghold.

So I have soon been playing Warhammer for about two years. I started player Vampire Counts and built myself a crusader-themed vampire army. But this year I got bored with them, and I soon started looking for a new army to love and cherish. In the end I settled for Ogre Kingdoms. I just liked all the possibilities to theme your own army, and even better you wouldn’t have to paint 200+ models to build your army, hurray  :)

I might ad at that point I had only seen an Ogre Kingdome army at a tournament. I hadn’t tried playing with them, I hadn’t played against them, I hadn’t even seen the book. But I didn’t let that stop me. I bought my first box of bulls, and fell instantly in love with them.

I knew right from the start that I wanted to do a Christmas themed army. I now know that I’m not the first one with that idea, but come on they where made to be Bad Santas. I quickly ordered a battalion-box and two giants and stared converting. I think that my neighbours must have thought I was mad, sitting in my apartment in the middle of May and June with a Christmas CD playing and singing along with all the carols. But I loved every minute of it. In the middle of June I had painted around 2000pts when I realized that I perhaps should get the Ogre Kingdom army-book also. Painting is fun and all that, but I like playing more.

All of my friend thought I was crazy. Building an army without even looking in the army-book. But I had and idea of what I wanted and went for in. Looking back at things, I maybe should have looked in the book beforehand but what the heck. Who needs scraplaunchers when you can have slavegiants instead

So I have made a list of Christmas things I want to have in my army:
A Christmas tree: Done, now looking for something to make Christmas-presents of.
A Snowball fight: My leadbealchers fire snowballs, that is the Ogre way
Snowmen: I have made 3 so far and they are awesome. I can use them as bulls or Yettis depending on what I need. I will make several more
Santas wife: Done
Santa
Rudolf: Ogre with rednose and reindeer-horns

To do list:
Carollers
The three wise men
The newborn jesus-gnoblar
Nutcracker
Gingerbread-men
Giant Turky/ham
Gnoblar hocky-team
Reindeer: I have found some toys that might work, now I just must make up a fun them.
Skis/sleigh: I’m going to by some scraplaunchers, and convert the to Christmas-presents-launchers.

I will try posting pics later
Welcome to the Stronghold KhazModan.
I'm pretty interested in seeing this theme played out, because it truly is new. The only Christmas themed ogre I've ever seen is Wildcard's; http://www.ogrestronghold.com/forum/index.php?topic=4631.0.

Very festive! I like them a lot.
Ridiculawesome. I like this so much.
The only thing I really see that should get fixed is a quick hit of dull coat to cut down on the shinyness.

You're going to continue the theme when you expand with the new book, right?

that takes a lot of "balls" to make a army like that. i see you mostly use a flat colour to paint have you tryed army painter mid tone. it will give you lots of definition and is easy to use. they have a good website with articles on how to. armypainter.com

heres a link to my more random models and paint projects, my ogre army can be found by following the other gnoblog link.
Very funny and very nice, keep up the good work. :)

Keep Calm and Praise the Sun!
I just felt that I had to update my gnoblog since it is the holidays and all. Sadly my painting skills have not improves since last time but I have manage to add quite a few new units to my tribe. I´m still thinking how my stonehorn/thundertusk should look. If you have any ideas plz tell me.
I still have to go over some of the units with washes and stuff but bear with me, I haven´t played one game since my last tournamet in september. So I haven´t even tried out my new units yet

So first I have added a few more snowmen to my Yheeti/Ogre unit

I have also added two Ironblasters to my army

and the back

of course I have bought some Mournfangs, right now I have two groups of three

As sabertusks I´m using the boars from Boarriders

I have also made a new Bsb that can also work as a hunter

this is an Ogre way of disguiseing oneself during Christmas

here is an overview of what I´ve got so for (except gnoblars)
Good to see this army continue.
I think you missed an opportunity to get some reindeer in there in place of the sabretusks. Some Welf horses with gs antlers would work well. Although Christmas hams work too.

That really is an amazing army!  Love the snow ogres!
Stay Frosty

Games Played (New book) = 22

W - 11  L - 10  D - 1

Best Win streak 6.  Current Win streak 1.
Monthly Paint challenges done = 9
I have bought some toy-reindeers but they where a bit big, but I might just try to squize them in either as Mournfangs or do a big Santas sleigh to use as a Stonehorn.

The Snow-ogres are brilliant since I can use spare-parts to build them  :D
Love this.

One point of criticism though: most of your browns could use some depth.
Whether it is with washes or highlights doesn't matter, but I think they bring this wonderful army down.

LOVE THOSE YHETEES! Love 'em

Now all we need is the 7th edition rule that said if the models are killed they don't get to fight and we WOULD be a broken army! lol

Ogre achievements: 41/101
This army makes me happy  :)

My Ogres have been put on a back burner for several years now, but I still like to bring them out sometimes and give them an airing. And you can write amazing fluff about them;

There had been a short autumn in the Empire this year, you could already feel the cold winds from the north sweeping down south. But there had been a long and prosperous summer and all the warehouses were stocked with food for the winter. But that people did not enjoy the coming of winter because they all knew what winter meant…… Father Gutmass were coming to pay them a visit once again.

Father Gutmass was in a merry mood, actually the whole tribe was in a merry mood. They could all feel the cold winds going south and all knew what it meant, it was soon time to visit the south once again.
Father Gutmass amassed the tribe outside one of the “workshops” (slavepen would be a more accurate description, but you don´t want to argue with an ogre so if he calls it a “workshop” you better agree or you will probably see the inside of the "workshop" faster than you can say; Merry Christmas)  and bellowed “You can all feel the wind, and you all know what that means”, “GUTMASS TIME!” the tribe answered. Father Gutmass once again bellowed “And you all know what we do to get in the spirit of things! Bring out the bells!”

All Ogres turned around looking at the great cavern that was behind them and a merry jingeling of bells could be heard from inside followed by a loud “Dong”. A huge thundertusk emerged from the gloom towing a sleigh with a large Screaming bell, beside the bell stood three ogres happily pulling the rope to make the bell swing. “Now, everybody sing!” Father Gutmass urged his hoard.

“Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way,
Oh what fun it is to kill
And pillage human things, O
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way,
Oh what fun it is to kill
And pillage human things.
”

“Now, who is with me to go and pillage us some presents!” Father Gutmass bellowed. The hoard of Ogres went mad with joy. From the mountain you could hear the yhetees answering to that ancient bell as well. “Ho-ho-ho, Merry Gutmass!”

The sound from the Screaming bell could be heard all over the tundra and all the other tribes; ogres, greenskins and chaos worshipper alike knew what it meant and hurriedly moved away from the path the Gutmass tribe always used. If you knew what was good for you, you moved when Father Gutmass were coming, or he might decide that you had been a very naughty boy indeed, and you wouldn´t want that now would you?

“Grul have been good this year and have eaten all the gnoblar Mother Gutmass place on his plate so he can come this year”  Father Gutmass proclaimed. The little gnoblar responsible for keeping track on the Naughty and Nice list made a notation in the book. “Next is Malruk” the gnoblar squeaked. “Malruk, wasn’t he the one who got his arm ripped off by Rudolf? That was naughty of him, Rudolf suffered from digestion problems several days afterward, I think that he will have to stay behind this year”. “That was the last one” that little gnoblar squeaked. “Ahh, finally is everyone ready?” Father Gutmass stood up in his huge sleigh that was being drawn by several mean looking mournfangs (The leader of the pack looked less than happy since a big red nose had been glued on his nose). “We can´t disappoint the little human children that are expecting us, so let’s go!” Father Gutmass bellowed.

The city guards of Magdenburg were watching the horizon were a big snowstorm seemed to be sweeping in over the land. “It will be miserable to stand guard tonight” one of the guards said. “Don´t worry I manage to liberate a big bottle of wine from one of the thieves we caught today, we just pop it onto the fire and I´m sure that we will manage to keep our warmth” another guard said with a twinkle in his eye.
The storm seemed to be sweeping towards Magdenburg with tremendous speed. One of the guards leaned over the city wall to spit, “Guys, do you feel the wall trembling?” All of the guards put their hands on the city wall, the wall seemed to vibrate like something heavy were thumping the ground and the vibrations were getting stronger. The guards all looked on one each other, at the same time they heard a sound that seemed to come from the approaching snowstorm “Tipp-tapp, tipp-tapp, tippe-tippe-tipp tap tipp, tipp, TAPP”

The snowstorm swept over Magenburg. The poor cityguards never knew what hit them, out of the billowing mass of snow the yeheeties emerged easily climbing the walls and ambushing the guards, dragging their screaming bodies back into the billowing snow. The city gates trembled when a giants club hit it, “Ho-Ho-Ho Father Gutmass is here and where is my PRESENTS!” (Father Gutmass had never really understood that Father Christmas gave away presents, he instead interpret the holiday that the humans should give him presents a.k.a food, gold, a good fight…)

*several hours later*

Father Gutmass were sitting in his sleigh and picking his teeth with a state-troopers sword. There had been no real resistance from the city but he had gotten a piece of a human breastplate between his teeth and it didn´t want to budge.
“So what city is next on our list” Father Gutmass asked the gnoblar that had to keep track of such things. “It is the city of Uppsala”. “Uppsala?!” Father Gutmass exclaimed “it has been a longs time since I was there, but I´m sure that they have missed me, what are we waiting for lets go"
