I think it's because it's green. You don't see many green bases these days, and that's probebly why it looks odd. I like it though! Reminds me of a simpler time...

Looks good! I'm thinking about converting the new Golgfag model. His position looks to be just right. I even think he alrdy has some kind of back-stand thing. I'll post pictures when I get around him !
TuShan19 Sep 2011
I've built two candidates for my BSB. I have not yet decided which one will win the position, so any help from you guys is appreciated ;-) The loser will live out his days as a maneater standard bearer.
#1 I built from all plastic parts from various kits plus an arm made from Green Stuff, because there wasn't a fitting one for the arm pose I needed.
#2 is a simple conversion from Bragg with the Mournfangs' banner and a few bits
Cheers, TuShan
- This is Firstey, as he is my first and I got him for my very first post :-)
Anton19 Sep 2011
The first one, easily. I really like the way he's carrying the banner. The sculpting is good too.
Bragg could be a good Maneater standard bearer if you add a souvenir or two.

Both are ace, but I think the first one is more fitting as BSB. The grim face, the well converted Standard, just like a Bruider Battle standard Bearer should look like! Nice idea with Bragg's flag, he makes a good Maneater SB for sure, his look could imply that he was a Dog of War for Dark Elves for some time.

Had a birdman of cotrazza in my bits box and figured that I should put it to use. I've replaced the human with a gnoblar from the scraplauncher kit. Here is a pic, though with 2 colors of primer and a shiny metal bit it is very hard to get a decent pic. For now it is stuck together with temporary adhesive putty(hence the green spots) while I pick the look that I'm after. I may cut the body in half to make it a bit taller, as he's the same size as RnF currently.

I finished my BSB and although its very amateur work and many of you have showcased far better pieces of modeling art work, I am proud of it.
It was the first model I used Greenstuff for (Greenstuff was used for the Mast, the Ogre's Hand, Filler between the left arm and the Ogre Torso, and for the metal bracer at the bottom of the mast) and its also the most converted model I've ever done (I melted metal and plastic to get just the right look that I wanted for it).
The paint job is also the most detailed I've done and I guess I found out (The hard way) that a steady hand is really important... especially for Eyeballs (Tricky little buggers).
So my Gnoblars all look like they are High on Shrooms! HaHa!
Oh and it is also the first basing I've ever done on a model. I think I went too far! There is a lot of terrain on that little 40mm plastic square!
Lots of good lessons learned in this project, but I am really happy with how it came out.
Anyways - without further adieu, below you will find the description of the banner and the theme of it. Below that is a link to a YouTube video of me creating it (as well as the final product in the last 4 slides).
Let me know what you all think!
A special and unique Bruiser BSB that uses the top of a Ship Mast as the Banner Pole. The large wooden frame will be relatively "naked" as I am going to use this BSB to acquire "trophies" from challenge games against my friends (and anyone who wants to throw down a good challenge). Before the game commenses, we will discuss what we want as a "Trophy" and I will say that I want a shield, a banner, a body (or head), ect of their army fully painted in their paint scheme. If I win the Challenge, and thus the trophy, I will add the Trophy to my BSB. Everytime I play with that BSB, the enemies that I have defeated will be showcased on the model and my enemies will be struck with terror when they see something from their own army that I have collected, thus a skilled fighter against that army.
Of course, this is a common theme for Ogre Battle Standard Bearer - the difference though will be all of the trophies on my BSB will have actually been earned from a challenge game.
I've also been told that I make "Inflammatory comments with no backing." -Mercules

Gut03 Dec 2011
Here's mine so far.
All I have left to do is convert or create an ironfist for him, add some greenstuff to make a little more skin on the victim and add a few organs flopping out onto the BSB's head and back. Basically I want to try and make it look like the body was ripped open just prior to battle to boost moral among the troops! Since the tribe I'm using as a theme is Sons of the Mountain, I'm considering making a metal mountain thingy to adhere behind the victim so it looks like their icon on page 20 of the army book. I'm thinking it would fit the tribe/theme pretty well, or it may just be too much going on visually....still unsure about it.

I like how this guy turned out. Still needs a base, and better pictures. Back banner is the mournfang banner, with the ironguts banner tope, tied to his back with rope. The mask (Dragonhelm, anyone?) is the banner top from the Mournfang set. When I have time, I'll probably go back to add a symbol of some sort to the banner.

Yet another Bragg, ye might be inclined to proclaim, alas the very reason behind him was to build a BSB that looks somewhat like a Highwayman. And with the new booke, Bragg entered the equation. I decided to arm 'im with every possible equipment combination so that I vary things a bit. The battlestandard with its macelike foot counts as a greatweapon whereas at other times, the shield counts as an Ironfist or enchanted shield, and the pistol simply is an Ogre Pistol, if need be. All the lad lacks 's a proper handweapon, tho.

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.
And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
