The History of the Zaanrai - PART 3 NOW ADDED! COMPLETE!!!

original thread ↗

Many of you might remember my curesd wood elves, The Zaanrai Tribe of Mirchvie. my army is themed on the war against chaos, so that stuff is NOT included in this part of the story. Happy reading

The history of the Zaanrai Part I
about 2500 years ago, there was a kindred of elves living in the glades of Athel Loren, who worshipped Mirchvie, the godess of sorcery. The kindred was called "The kindred of Zanreeia".
In the beginning, the kindred was not very different from the other elves. They lived only to aid the forest and followed Orion's wild hunt and so, but after a couple of years, the spellweavers of the kindred began to study the darker arts of magic. in a short time, they had the power to make trees come alive without being posessed by a spirit of the forest.
After a few more years, the chief councilor of the kindred's obsession for more magical power led to studying of forbidden lores and dark books that only Ariel and Orion was allowed to read.
The chief councilor, Renthalen, was now so mighty that many elves feared his magical powers. He could bind fey creatures such as unicorns and treemen to serve him as minions and make his enemies feet turn into roots, so they couldn't get away before he blasted them with a ball of lightning.
When Ariel heard of Renthalen's deeds, she became furious, and in her anger, she banned the kindred from Athel Loren and forced them to move southwards to the nearest southern sentinent forest: The forest of Engemai, meaning "forest of vicious half-beasts". The forest was located in the human realm Tilea.
Furthermore, Ariel took Renthalen, and turned him into a tree for his deeds. The tree was later cut down by a dwarf expedition.

Hard Times
With the leader of the kindred dead, a new chief councilor was appointed by the council of the kindred. His name was Ranulathion. he became the first chief magistrate of Mirchvie and was awarded with the title "Al'Mirchvie" Meaning Son of or kin of Mirchvie.
Ranulathion was a relatively young elf, who had also studied the forbidden lores and he was a powerfull sorcerer equal to the most powerfull of spellweavers.
The forest of Engemai was not a nice place. It was mainly inhabited by Satyrs, creatures not dissimilar to beastman ungors, but slightly smaller. among other inhabitans were the mighty Auríí, also known as Centaurs, creatures with the lower body of a strong horse and the upper body of a man. Furthermore, the forest was full of dryads and other tree-spirits, unicorns and wolves.
for many years, the elves fought the creatures of the forest. It was Ariel's plan that the kindred would be destroyed by the creatures. Even though Ranulathion and his council used their powers to bind several unicorns and other creatures, it wasn't enough to keep them away. Then the kindred started cutting down trees and colecting rocks to build a suitably safe fortress that could keep the endless hordes of forest creatures out.
It was like the kindred was cursed, for only the elves that were truly tough and willing to cut down trees and kill innocent creatures seemed to have children, that survived.
After about twenty years of constant battle and hiding, the fortress of Daesnáe wasfinally finished. From now on, the elves had a rallying point that could endure most of the forest creature attacks. for more that two centuries, the kindred endured weekly sieges, but the losses were few, for the magistrate council was cleaver. They invented a way to magically summon illusionary dragons and monsters made of thin air, that scared the forest creatures away before thay could break in.

A new Horizon
Over the years, the fortress of Daesnáe had developed into an entire city with huts, a town square and a castle in which the council dwellt. The kindred was now no longer just a kindred of elven mages and acolytes. It was rather a large tribe of elves with villagers and an army of organized units of archers and soldiers. Some of the mages had simply learnt to fight and tought it to their families and aprentices.
Many more years passed, and the elves began to be a bit more adopted to the less marmonic, in-pact-wit-the-nature life in the forest of Engemai. almost every elf's hair was now black like the darkest night, and they seemed to have a language* different from the elves of Athel Loren. As a former spellsinger kindred, every elf of the tribe had the ability to sense magical power over a short distance. Some were better than others.
More years passed and the tribe was named The Zaanrai Tribe of Mirchvie.

The discovery of the Forgotten Castle
In winter, the forest creatures were weak and unable to do much damage to the ever growing Zaanrai community. One day, a young and courious elf named Santhrunil led an expedition into the depths of the dark forest. After twelve days of walking, they reached a place where there were no forest creatures to be seen. The elves felt an unppleasant pressence, but kept travelling deeper into the forest. They saw a great plane full of statues built by ancient generations. one day later, the expedition reached a great castle. The castle was diserted, but it was like something was watching the expedition. Also, the members of the expedition all felt the precence of greater magical winds within this forgotten part of the forest. They stayed by the castle during the night, but when they awoke next morning, a third of the elves were missing without a sign left behind. The rest of the expedition declared the place cursed and hurried back to tell of their discoveries. They told the council about the cursed castle and their experiences within it, and the council declared the place cursed ground and forbit elves to go there.

The Tileans
Many years later, the elves first encountered the tileans. They were cutting down the forest to get wood for building and burning. The forest creatures were now also battling the tileans.
The Zaanrai saw great opportunities in helping these humen wiping out the creatures as they thought that the humen would do the same for them in times of need.
This led to the first great war of the forest, with the Zaanrai and the tileans on one side and the creatures of the forest on the other.
After two months of battle, the creatures finally retreated to the dark places of the forest with the cursed Castle. They were not seen again for many years.
The council and the tilean count, that led the army made an alliance, that would protect both races as they would always stand side by side in battle.
The tileans had seen many horors within the forest, so they did not dare to enter it anymore. They made tales and folklore about the wars, and some of it can still be found in the great tomes of Tilea. in tilean tales and folklore, the forest is called "the Forest of the Dark Young" in which fey creatures dwell. The elves adapted that name too.

The comming of Chaos
A few centuries later, the Zaanrai tribe was great as never before. The council was made up of nine of the greatest warriors, magistrates and heroes of the tribe.
The chief councilor and king of the tribe was Ranulathion. He was the mightiest hero ever to have led the Zaanrai tribe. The army of the elves was great and strong.
Now numbering almost every kind of warrior that could be found in Athel Loren, except the fey Wardancers which arts the magistrates didn't know of and the Wild Riders as the tribe did not worship Kournos.
With thousands of warriors, the forest creature attacks were easily warded off just by the Zaanrai Waywatcher scouts.
Ranulathion now thought that his mighty army combined with the forces of tilea and some merecenaries would be powerfull enough to complete his great wish: To conquer Athel Loren, Kill Ariel and reclaim the forbidden lores. He and the council made a plan.
They would attack Loren at winter, as the forest spirits and Loren elves were weak in those times. Everything was actually planned, and the army was fully trained. The Zaanrai only had to wait half a year until the winter came, but things went terribly wrong that year. In the depths of the forest, Ranulathion felt the precence of a magical power equal to his own. He had never felt the precence of that kind of magic before and he knew that it wasn't the forest spirits. He also knew that this magic was in some way hostile. A month passed and the magic precence just kept getting stronger and stronger. Ranulathion decided to wait at least one year with attacking Athel Loren. He knew that this strange magical source had to be checked out. He sent a small army of soldiers to the forbidden places of the forest to check this strange precence.
In the next days, with the small army on its way, the fortress of Daesnáe was overrun by a huge horde of forest creatures. The strange thing was that the creatures didn't attack, they just waited outside the city.

To be Continued

And no, I don't think that anyone could overrun Athel Loren, but such a mighty sorcerer-lord might be crazy enough to think so ;)

The History of the Zaanrai Part II

A new Threat
With the forest creatures just standing outside the fortress of Daesnáe, The army of the elves decided to fight them once for all. As they were ready to fight and opened the gates, the forest creatures didn't storm the elves. Instead, a large old male centaur, aperantly their leader, marched into the town square with a white flag. Thay surrendered. The centaur wished to talk to King Ranulathion and the rest of the council. he told the council about a new horror, that had come to the abandoned castle and about how most of the forest creatures were driven mad by the magical and how they attacked the others. The last sane forest creatures, a quite small army, was now standing outside Daesnáe. The forest creatures were willing to make an alliance with the elves to defeat the horror as a united force. The council thought about it for a while. There were no lie to see in the eyes of the centaur, but the elves were not sure if they could trust the forest creatures after a milinium of war. after many long meetings, the elves finally accepted the offer. The Zaanrai blacksmiths forged fine elven weapons and armour for the forest creatures to replace their savage equipment.

The Siege of Daesnáe
A month passed and the council feared for the small elven army they had sent out to destroy the horror. For every day, Ranulathion felt the magical powers of the horror grow stronger. He was now no longer sure if he could defeat the horror on his own.
Then a day, a group of waywatchers came back from a scouting mission. many of them were wounded. They told about a great army on their way to Daesnáe. The council asked them about what army, but they were not sure. Some thought that it was forest creatures, some other told about twisted monsters and the last ones told about cyclopean creatures of darkness. That night, Ranulathion had a vision about the fall of the Zaanrai and something about many years of darkness without an apropriate king and something about a cursed queen. Ranulathion was terrified and ordered every soldier to get ready for battle.
a few days later, the great army reached the fortress of Daesnáe. As Ranulathion saw the besiegers with his own eyes, he understood what the waywatchers ment. They were forest creatures... well... kind of. Their fur had turned blue and the tree spirits were bluish aswell. They all had only one eye and they tended to turn every forest creature, that was hit by their magic into monstrous creatures like themselves. They fought like they were controlled by a single mind. they did not seem to feel pain, nor did they seem to feel fear.
Then Ranulathion saw their leader. a big, horned hulk with bestial feet wearing a cloak and great bladed staff. He was sure on that one. He could feel enormous magical powers erupting from the dark soul of the creature. He took a spear and mounted upon the back of a mighty unicorn, then he rode forwards against the monster. As he unleashed his magical missiles, the chaos lord just swept them away without any further attention. Then the chaos lord set the unicorn on fire. Blue fire forcing Ranulathion to fight on foot. Ranulathion fired another bolt of magic, but it was swept away as easy as the first. The Ranulathion realized that this thread was greater than he thought, but be for he could think anymore, he was lifted from the ground by the chaos lord's magical powers. "Did you really think that you could stand up to Lord Tzaakron the Everchanging, High Priest and Greater Libarian of the Changer of Ways himself?" The lord asked and impaled Ranulathion with his bladed staff.
After two days of battle, most of the beastmen were finally slain and Tzaakron retreated his forces. The battle was won and Daesnáe was safe, but the Zaanrai knew that Lord Tzaakron would return. almost a fourth of the army was slain. So was Ranulathion and two more Council members.

The second King
After cleaning up the spoils of the battle, the remaining council members elected a new king. His name was Manarion Al'Mirchvie. He was no wizard, but an extremely skilled fighter. He had been a council member since he was young. His wife, Fareinil Al'Mirchvie was also a skilled fighter and high priestess of Mirchvie. She became the first queen of the Zaanrai.
For the next many battles, Manarion and Fareinil fought side by side at the forefront of the Zaanrai army.
They both had a Spear of twilight. The most powerfull weapon and strongest symbol of power among the Zaanrai. Only the mightiest of council members would be awarded with such a powerfull weapon. anyone wounded by one of these spear would die from their wounds imediately. Many battles were won by the king, the queen and their mighty warriors.

The second Siege and the Curse of Lord Tzaakron.
Though there had been lots of battles against Tzaakron's endless hordes of twisted beastmen since the first siege of Daesnáe, Lord Tzaakron had never shown himself on the battlefields since he killed Ranulathion.
Then a day. A hundred years after the first siege, the remains of a centaur scouting party came back to Daesnáe with the terrible news. Tzaakron was on the way to Daesnáe once again with a great horde. Not only consisting of the one-eyed beastmen, but also of warriors clad in shining, magical blue armour, and one-eyed, mutated beasts far larger than the 'normal' beastmen. Tzaakron also had mighty centaur-like reptilian beasts that he called shaggoths and a variant spicies of Ogres in his ranks.
Most of the centaurs that delivered the terrible news were either partly twisted or badly wounded.
The king and queen told the rest of the council about the army. The council was now consisting not only of elves, but also of the great leader centaur, who started the alliance and the ancient Branchwraith Vandalia the Gnarled.
The council ordered the united army of elves and forest creatures to get ready for battle. They also sent Glade riders out to make their ancient tilean allies aid them. Only a small group of tileans came though. Most of the tileans were too scared of the tales of their first battle within the borders of the forest of the Dark Young, so they did not dare to go there.
Then came the night where the Tzeentchian army reached the city of Daesnáe. Everything the centaurs had told about the army was right, the army was numbering at least as many warriors as the Zaanrai army. The armies fought against each other for two days and nights. many brave warriors were slain. Then Fareinil finally took her spear and rode against Lord Tzaakron. Even though Manarion begged her to stop, she rode on. The spear of Twilight hit Lord Tzaakron directly in the heart, passing right through his thick armour and into his flesh. Tzaakron screamed so loud, that every warrior could hear it. His hordes then fled away to return once again. Tzaakron himself was badly wounded and called upon the ultimate wrath of change upon Fareinil. The sky itself cracked and a great eye appeared on the sky. It sent a great lightning against the poor Fareinil, but then the wind started to cry in the trees. The voice of the goddess Mirchvie sounded. "My brave priestess. You shall be spared for the terrible destiny of feeling the wrath of change!"
Fareinil started to glow with a bright green light. Then the lightning struck her and everything turned normal. Tzaakron was gone. Fareinil was unconscious for a few hours after the battle. Nothing seemed to have happened to her. Manarion stayed by her side until she awoke. She didn't really remember what had happened since she hit Tzaakron's chest with her spear, so Manarion told her the story.
By nightfall, Fareinil turned strangely ill. she started to glow with the same bright green light as right after Mirchvie had talked to her. When the light disapeared, Manarion saw what he would see every night until his death. Fareinil had turned into a white wolf. The symbol of Mirchvie. Even though white wolves are normally threated as sacred beasts by the Zaanrai, Manarion and Fareinil saw this as a curse.
The council had a lot of discussions on how to break this terrible curse. Manarion was especially worried. None of the spellweavers seemed to have the needed power to break it. Every night, Fareinil still turned into the white wolf, and by dawn, she turned back into her elven self and she couldnt remember anything from the night. If just Ranulathion had been alive. He had the knowladge and power to break the curse for sure, the elves thought.

To be continued in the last part!

I Just wish I could see it represented in an army.

You can: http://s15.invisionfree.com/the_dark_forest/index.php?showtopic=65

And an RPG too: http://s15.invisionfree.com/the_dark_forest/index.php?showtopic=47

The army is mostly based on part III of the story which should be up sometime next week (Unless I have too much homework)

I have the beastmen from the RPG too. You're all very welcome to register on TDF, if you want.

The army is very nice, though the Treeman is exceedingly weird. What do you use the centaurs as when your opponents don't let you use the rules you made for them?
2 Pet Gnoblars! I dub them Itchy and Scratchy, for reasons that are too private to divulge.
I use them as WRs of course.

(The stats for centaurs in that ancient topic is the same as BOC centigors, which is the closest thing to centaurs in WHFB)

The History of the Zaanrai Part III

Luinil Al Mirchvie and the death of the Wolf-Queen
Not many years after the first siege of Daesnáe, Fareinil and Manarion had a daughter. Just as her mother, the child suffered from the terrible curse of being turned into a white wolf at night. The child was named Luinil Al'Mirchvie, meaning "Eternal Star of Mirchvie". Even though Luinil was friendly and intelligent, most of the other children avoided her. They were all afraid and saw her as a being of chaos. Only Thelarion Al'Mirchvie, the son of the High Eternal Guardian talked to her. They spent most of their childhood together.

Then on a dark and rainy night, Daesnáe was besieged by a small warband of chaos warriors and beastmen. As they broke the gates, Fareinil charged forward killing many of the attackers with her bite. After some time, the leader of the chaos warband, Wradchúúk the Giantslayer went tired of seeing his men fall to the injuries caused by a silly wolf. He took a spear from the hand of a dead elf and hurled it at Fareinil. Fortunately, it only hit the wolf's hind leg, so she wasn't deadly wounded. When Manarion saw this, he hurried to protect his beloved wife, but before he reached the wolf, Wradchúúk had severed her head. Manarion looked at the dead wolf as it turned back into an elf after dying. Then he became filled with anger and sent his Spear of twilight directly through Wradchúúk's head.
After a couple of hours, most of the warband was slain. The rest of them fled.

After Fareinil's death, Manarion became strangely paranoid. He spent a lot of time raising his daughter. She grew up and became a vicious warrior skilled in the usage of bow and arrow. She could hit almost any opponent at a long distance. Luinil was also skilled in the art of using Ahiyren, a pair of spiky knives. Luinil's only wish was to grow up and kill Lord Tzaakron and thereby breaking the curse.

The next few years
When Luinil reached hundred years, she was old enough to join the mighty Council. Thelarion, who had joined the council two years earlier, looked forward to having Luinil by his side.
When it came to the great election, everyone, except Thelarion voted against Luinil's joining of the council. Most members considered her unstable and unqualified to the job of entering the council. Even her own father voted against her. He was too afraid that something would happen to her if she became the new queen.
As Luinil couldn't be a council member, she thought that she would never fullify her dream of killing Lord Tzaakron, but then Thelarion promoted her to Eternal Guardian of his 1st company, so she could fight in the army.
Luinil was not too fond of heavy armour and disciplined, ranked warfare, so she left the kindred. Thelarion, who liked her a lot gave her another chance. He let her join the scouts.
Scouting seemed to suit Luinil much better and she was happy with this job for a couple of years. After five years of service, Luinil was promoted to Waywatcher. The Zaanrai Waywatchers were known as a wild kindred, that dressed themselves in animal pelts and stuff. The whole beast thing with the waywatchers suited Luinil very well and they accepted her as a leader and did not seem to mind the curse at all.

A Ranger joins the elves
It was on a cold winter night, that Luinil and her waywatchers was on a quest for hunting down a herd of raiding centigors that she first encountered Henry Sleipneer.
Luinil and the 'watchers suddenly reached a glade where the snow was red. Luinil went barking rapidly and the waywatchers became aware that the centigors might have let them into a trap.
Then the centigors attacked. They were hideous like the other beasts with blue fur, pale skin and only one eye. They seemed to have trapped Luinil and the waywatchers, but they fought bravely. Then a dark silhouette appeared. It shot like mad at the centigors, then it went away. Luinil and the waywatchers managed to kill the beasts and went home.

The next night, Luinil was walking through the streets of Daesnáe. Suddenly, the wolf saw the same silhouette as last night sneaking around WITHIN the walls of the city. The wolf charged and bit the person in it's leg, so that it screamed out loud. Some elves had heard the noise and went out. They steadied Luinil and looked at the person. It was a human. Probably tilean. It was against the laws of the Zaanrai to hurt humans, so Luinil was judged to take care of the man until he was well enough to leave.

Taken from Henry Sleipneer’s Journals, sommerzeit 2nd, 2512 IC:
The next day, I woke up in a bed in a beautifully decorated room. I don't really remember how I got here. I remember that I was in the elven city to steal the necklace that Simeon told me to do. Then some hound attacked me and I must have been placed here to recover. When I looked at my leg, I saw that it was bound with bloody bandages. The next thing I saw was two persons, a man and a young woman. They were probably elves. One of them, the woman went to me and apologized for injuring me. I doubted that such creature of beauty could have done this. I knew that it was some kind of hound. Then I remembered the tales my uncle told me of werewolves and I got terrified.

Taken from Henry Sleipneer’s Journals, sommerzeit 18th, 2512 IC:
I've been staying here for a little more than two weeks now. My leg still hasn't healed completely. The elves are nice to me. Especially the black haired girl, who apparently caused this damage to my left leg.
Although I speak fluent elvish, these elves are hard to understand. I believe that they speak a variant of the language of the Asur of Ulthaun rather than the Asrai language that I know so well.

They must be some kind of sub-species of the elves that are described in Simeon's books. All these seems to have black hair and black eyes. They are not as much in pact with the nature as other elves, they are burning wood for instance. They seems to be allied with some beastman sub-species that are more sophisticated than I've ever seen beastmen be.

The Girl that injured me and seems to take care of me is apparently called "Luinil". She is never to be seen after nightfall, damn!

After a couple of months, Henry's leg was fully healed, but he didn't leave. He stayed with the elves and he swore to fight for them. Nobody really knows why. Some says that it was because he thought that he had discovered an undiscovered elven tribe, others thought that he stayed with the elves to claim his part of their slaughtered enemies treasures. A few meant that he stayed with the elves simply because of Luinil.

The Fate of the Dark Young
Henry had now stayed with the Zaanrai for almost one and a half year.
It was a nice, hot summer day that Council member Athrition Al'Mirchvie the Hawkmaster came home with the news that a third siege might be on its way. Manarion, who was known for being a great tactician, spent some time thinking of a way to avoid this. The elves simply didn’t have enough warriors to stand against another siege. After two days of meditation, Manarion announced that the only way to survive would be a counter attack. The council ordered each council member to lead his or her army to Tzaakron’s fortress, the forbidden Fort Zachrenburgh. The council ordered Henry Sleipneer and a couple of elves ride to Tilea and call upon the great army as a last chance of getting more troops. As the last thing, Manarion personally ordered Luinil Locked up inside the palace. The armies went on their way. They left the civilians behind with only a few guards left. The council’s plan was to meet the forces of chaos on the halfway and kill them by surprise.

After a few days, Henry came back from his hometown, Ravensburg with a mighty army. Henry was son of a mighty count, who had been killed and could therefore claim his army at any time. The tilean army was led by Henry’s childhood friend, Arthur Foalie. The tilean army numbered nearly a thousand men, so they should be able to do at least some damage to the forces of chaos. When Henry and the Tilean Forces reached Daesnáe, They found Luinil locked up. Henry ordered one of his captains to order the guards to release Luinil. Then the army rode on.

Thelarion’s army was the biggest of the ten elven armies. Numbering nearly 2500 elves of which half of them were mounted. After two weeks riding, they reached a glade and put up their tents to stay for the night. Soon, they awoke at the sound of screaming people. The camp was under attack. A great beast herd led by the infamous Beast Lord Raaghan the Hideous had found them. Although the beasts were only half as many as the elves, they had the advantage as they had caught Thelarion by surprise. Thelarion was truly the mightiest warrior of the Zaanrai. With his greatsword, he jumped through the ranks of beastmen killing a fifty beasts on his own hand. After a couple of hours, it looked good for the elves, but then Thelarion saw Raaghan. A big hulk of a beastman. 9 feet tall and wearing a yellow robe. In his left hand, he held a great staff unscripted with runes and symbols of change. His right hand was literally shaped like the claw of a crab. Thelarion raised his sword and charged the monster, but the beast was too powerful. Before Thelarion’s sword touched the beast lord, Raaghan had already cut up Thelarion’s chest with his claw.
At that moment, Henry, Luinil, Arthur and their army reached Thelarion’s camp. Raaghan threw Thelarion away and started smashing elves with his massive staff. Henry saw Thelarion struggle with his chest cut up and leaped into battle. He severed Raaghan’s head. Thereafter he cut Raaghan’s body into shreds and pieces. When Raaghan died, the rest of the beastmen stopped fighting and started shaking like they were having electric shocks. The elves and humans hurried to kill the shaking beasts. A spellweaver had the theory that Raaghan was a kind of Hierophant, who controlled the minds of the other beastmen. When he was killed, there were simply nobody to control the minds of the beastmen and therefore, they got shocks. The battle was won, but what a loss? Thelarion, the mightiest warrior had been slain. Luinil did not talk for three days after Thelarion’s death.

Meanwhile, Athrition and his army of Warhawk and Eagle riders clashed with a mighty host of Tzeentch Daemons. To Athrition’s luck, the daemons could easily be outmanoeuvred and shot. No great warriors were slain in this battle.

Luinil, Henry and Arthur went on. A morning, some tilean pikemen found a wounded Bretonnian knight lying on the ground. They picked him up and placed him in a baggage cart. In the coming days, the apothecaries of the army took care of the knight. His name was Faile De Panar Sebban. He claimed to be a great lord of Bretonnia and promised to reward the elves for taking care of him. Then re rode on.

After twelve days of travelling, the ten armies met up at the great plains of Fort Zachrenburgh.
The elven and human alliance was met by a chaos force ten times as large as itself. Many great heroes were fighting for each side. With the elves were Luinil, Henry, Arthur, Manarion, Athrition and the rest of the council and many others. Within Tzaakron’s twisted warhost, you could see creatures of darkness such as Aekold Hellbrass, Tzaakron’s apprentice and Grimwald the Battle Standard Bearer. Among the Beastmen were the gigantic doombull, Ghorgrell the Massive. He was created to be Tzaakron’s new beastman Hierophant. Strangely enough, Tzaakron himself was not to be seen on the battlefield.

Then the battle started. Many great warriors and heroes died on the fields of battle. Manarion rode a great chariot pulled by four strong stallions. It smashed through the ranks of the beastmen until it bumped into Ghorgrell. It was really a strange creature. With only one eye like all beastmen and great yellow claws instead of hands. Ghorgrell took up a horse and torn it apart. Manarion took his bejewelled Spear of Twilight and put it into the eye of the mighty doombull, who did not die, but struggled and then disappeared in a cloud of smoke.

The battle went on. By nightfall, the elves retreated into the forest, but they were overrun by the beastmen, warriors and marauders. As the chaos creatures reached the forest, Dryads, Treekin, Treemen, Centaurs and Satyrs charged them. Then a horn sounded. It was Sir Faile, who had returned with an army of bretonnians. The elves rallied and charged again. It was an amazing sight. So many warriors in one battle. The battle lasted for days.

Then a morning, before dawn, the council went into the forest to plan their next move. Manarion ordered the other council members to gather their forces and fight on. He asked Henry to stay.
Henry could see the allied forces fall to the powers of Tzaakron’s army.
“Why don't we help them?” Henry asked. Luinil was a wolf and couldn't answer. “Wait and see, young human. This is all part of the plan. This battle will be finished soon!” Manarion said in a dark, all-knowing tone. “We are getting killed!” Henry shouted. “I know. It’s all part of my plan!” Manarion laughed.
"DONT YOU SEE THAT WE ARE LOSING!?" Henry yelled at the king. Manarion took Henry and lifted him up from the ground with only one hand. “I'm the commander here, I say when we are losing and winning! I'm in charge!" He said and threw Henry to the ground. Luinil snarled at the delirious king. "Keep away, changeling! You're infesting me with changeling magic!" Manarion kicked the wolf with his steel boot, so that it went away and hid behind the Henry. "ATHRITION! COME DOWN HERE! WE NEED YOUR HELP! THE KING HAS GONE CRAZY!" He shouted into the sky. A warhawk rider came down from the sky, he landed close to the king. "My lord! I bring bad news! The village is gone! Wradchúúk the Giantslayer and his war party killed everybody and burnt down the village!" he said. "I'm glad to hear so. I always intended that to happen." The king said as he picked up the spear of twilight and impaled the warhawk rider. "NOOOOO!" Henry shouted as Luinil barked aloud. Henry grabbed his sword and charged the king. "YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE KILLED ONE OF YOUR OWN!" "FOR FREEEEDOOOM!" He charged. Manarion lifted his hand and Henry levitated from the ground. He struggled, but couldn't get free. Luinil ran forward biting her own father's leg, so he fell over, losing the grip on Henry. Athrition and his company now came down from the skies looking at what was going on. The next moment, Luinil started to change into her elven form. When the transformation was over, she instantly ran to her wounded father, looking at Henry with a twisted gaze. "You... You're one of them! A servant of Change! How could I have trusted you? You did this to my beloved father!" she cried "That's right! Let that be a lesson to you my daughter. NEVER TRUST A MERECENARY! Now kill him!" The king shouted. Luinil and the warhawk riders took aim at Henry. "You're wrong! I didn't cut your father's leg! You bit him! LOOK! IT'S A BITEMARK! NOT A CUT!" He yelled. "I dont believe you" Luinil cried. "How much did they pay you to betray us?" She asked, crying. Henry started to run. He knew that he would be shot by a hail of arrows in a few moments. What was this madness? First the king and now Luinil.

Luinil stood at the side of her father, ready to fire the bow.
"How could he?" she asked. as she let go the arrow. At the same moment, Manarion stopped the arrow by grabbing it in the air. "Let him go! That creature will be punished by his dark gods, when the battle is over." he said. Luinil fell crying in the arms of her father. "I trusted him! What a mistake!" She said. "You did well in trusting him. The only mistake you ever made was not trusting him!" the king said with an otherworldly voice.
Luinil looked into the gabs of Manarion’s helm. "What do you mean?" She asked. She stopped crying due to the shock she got when realizing that the king's eyes were glowing red. "Stupid girl child! I'll reveal it all to you now." Manarion said. Luinil was terrified. She didn't know what to think, say or do. "Why do you think I did not let you join the council? Why do you think that I let everybody hate you? Why do you think that I ordered my own men to attack an army far greater than our own?" the king laughed. "I..I...I don’t know..." Luinil whispered. She sat down in confusion and started to cry again. Never had she been so afraid and confused. "Don’t you realize that you could had had friends and if we Haven’t let Tzaakron breed more warriors and attack us over and over again with small war bands killing a few elves, we could have defeated him a long ago." Manarion continued to laugh. Luinil was in chock. " I left the village unprotected, so it could be destroyed. I did all this, and now the race of the Zaanrai will fall!!!" the king shouted out loud. "No... You're lying! This is just a nightmare!" Luinil screamed.
"Oh yes, this is a nightmare! A nightmare worse than you can imagine! this is my true self!" The king said.
Manarion took off his helm. His face split into two faces. The spear of twilight turned into a staff. The once so pretty elf grew in height. His limbs grew longer. His legs and feet turned into the ones of a beast. His robes turned black, blue and yellow. Horns grew from his forehead and spikes from his back. His armour turned into the one of a chaos warrior. "Surprised, my beloved daughter?" The terrifying creature spoke with his snake-like voice. "Who are you?" Luinil asked. "I am your father, I'm the murderer of your mother, I'm the betrayer of your kind, I’m your worst nightmare. My name is Artemis. Artemis Tzaakron the Ever-changing." The creature said.
Luinil almost fainted. "This cannot be true! I don't believe you! SOMEBODY!!! HELP ME!!!" She screamed in despair. The warhawk riders fled, but Tzaakron pointed his staff at them and they began to change into hideous winged furies and spawns. Only Athrition and a standard bearer got away without any further damage. Athrition’s left hand had changed into a hostile greyish tentacle, that tried to choke him. He grabbed his knife and cut it off. "AAARGH! My hand!" He screamed as the tentacle fell to the ground.

"Now, My daughter, my beloved spawn, my avatar, my host! We must return to my great throne-hall to sacrifice you in the name of change. At last, I can become the mightiest of creatures, a Daemon Prince!"

Henry ran for his life with Athrition and his eagles coming after him. Henry stopped and shouted out loud “Then kill me!!!” as he didn’t know that the Warhawk riders had found out that it was actually Manarion, who was the betrayer. The warhawks landed and the riders jumped off. They told Henry the story and they decided to go back to Fort Zachrenburgh and rescue Luinil.

Meanwhile on the battlefield, Arthur, Faile, the rest of the council members and the army fought on. Now, a mighty shaggoth entered the battlefield. It was gigantic. The army fought on as Henry and the warhawk riders entered Fort Zachrenburgh through a window. The eagles couldn’t get through and flew away. Henry, Athrition and the standard bearer rushed up many stairs. After almost an hour of running up stairs they reached a great gate. They opened it only to find more stairs. After some more stairs, they reached a second gate. This one was made of metal. It was glowing in a sort of different colours.

The army finally managed to kill the shaggoth, but then Aekold Hellbrass’ army returned. Aekold’s army was far greater than the remains of the alliance. All hope seemed gone.

"Whatever's in there, you must remember that it's the enemy. Show no mercy." Henry whispered and opened the gate. When he opened it, a cold wind hit their faces. "It must be here." he said and entered.
The hall that they entered was the greatest room Henry had ever been to. Even bigger than the Arabian temples of the Middle East.

Henry looked around and saw the spiky, mutated Lord Tzaakron. He seemed to be a third daemon, a third mortal and a third beast. His legs were furry and bestial. His feet were the ones of a beast. He was wearing a suit of armour resembling the face of a daemon. His face was actually two faces. His bacl was covered in a furry cloak. Spikes bursted through the cloak and out of his back. In his hand, he had a staff. The staff looked like it was alive and was made of elven skin. The creature was a terror causing sight. Tzaakron turned around and looked at the man and his elven followers. "So. You managed to get so far, Henry. I'm impressed." Tzaakron said with his usual snake-like otherworldly voice. "Come on, daemon and fight me! Grab a sword and leave your magical powers behind and fight like a man!" Henry yelled. "How dare you to speak to your master in that tone?" Tzaakron said. "I'm the changer of ways! I'm the master of magic! I'm the high priest and greater librarian of the lord of change himself!" Tzaakron shouted. "Now let me continue sacrificing your girlfriend. I have a present, that can deal with you in the meantime!" he said and fired a blue ball in the direction of the standard bearer. At the moment it hit, the standard bearer lost his banner and took himself to his stomach emitting sounds like he was choking. "Oh no! Back off! I've seen that happen to many warriors during battles against Tzaakron's hordes! BACK OFF!" Athrition yelled. The next moment, the standard bearer almost exploded leaving something that looked like a blob of meat. The blob grew and grew. Soon it was a great spawn of chaos with uncountable mouths and claws. Henry leaped forward and cut off the beast’s head. Another head grew from the ever-changing creature. Henry kept cutting limbs off, but as soon as they were cut off, new ones grew out.
Tzaakron laughed. Then he turned around and continued saying spells and prayers. Luinil laid hypnotized on the alter. She did not feel anything because of the paralyzing spells cast upon her. Tzaakron fired another blue ball out of the window hitting the cloud full sky, making the clouds disappear. The sun was setting.

The armies saw the sky change from clouds to pure blue. "That's the sign! Attack!" Aekold yelled and charged forward. The battlefield was full of blood and dead bodies of both elves, men and warriors of chaos. "We'll do like them!" Faile yelled! "For Gloryyyyyy!" He screamed as he charged. The army did the same. At the moment the armies clashed, Faile's lance penetrated Aekold's thick scale mail and torn him on the lance. The army stormed forward cutting the wounded champion into pieces. Though the battle seemed hopeless, the alliance killed many more chaos warriors than the chaos warriors killed men and elves. It was like the bretonnians were blessed by the Lady and the elves were blessed by the goddess of Mirchvie. The tileans loaded their crossbows and fired a hail of arrows. After some fighting, Arthur killed the last Character. A bird-headed sorcerer dressed in yellow robes. The armies of chaos stopped fighting and moved into a circle around the alliance. The horde of chaos now had only one hierophant left: Tzaakron. If Henry and Athrition managed to kill Tzaakron, the army would fall apart and victory would be in the favour of the alliance. The armies started to fight again, but this time, the blessings seemed gone. The chaos warriors were numbering three times as many warriors as the elves and the alliance was losing badly.

The sun set and Luinil's ears slowly got furrier. "C'mon! Change your stupid girl child!" Tzaakron thought while turning the end of his staff into a sacrificial knife. Luinil's hands and feet turned into paws and her teeth got sharper and pointier.
Henry had managed to kill the spawn, but then Grimwald entered the hall through a window. He leaped against Henry ready to kill him. Then came the great flash of light from Luinil. In a few seconds, no one were able to see anything. Henry heard the noise of someone hitting something. Henry was sure that it was Tzaakron cutting up Luinil's chest with his bluish knife-staff. The flash continued for much longer than it used to. When it ended, Henry stood behind Grimwald. Though temporary blinded, he took his black sword and cut off Grimwald's head. His dead body fell to the ground, his black blood ran out onto the floor of the throne hall. Henry turned around in a rush expecting to see Luinil turned into something terrible and an even more terrible daemon prince standing next to the altar, but there were no daemon prince, nor was Athrition in sight. Henry went to the alter and saw that Luinil was lying on the alter barely untouched. She was an elf. AN ELF! AT NIGHT! She had fainted, but she was still breathing. Henry went to the great balcony outside the window. He looked down and saw Tzaakron. He was torn on the pointy end of one of the lower towers. His staff was nowhere in sight. Tzaakron's body started to shake. He could not be alive. Could he? Then came a great flash of blue light from Tzaakron's body. A shockwave followed. It sent Henry flying many meters away. His head hit the altar and he fainted.

Henry woke up on the plains with a terrible headache. He stood upright and saw that a few men and elves were burying the bodies of the fallen warriors. Arthur stood talking to a tilean legionary. "There you are, sleepy. You've been gone for hours, you know. A couple of your fancy birds picked you and the girl up when the fortress fell apart." he said. "The girl? Luinil? Where is she?" Henry asked with a desperate voice. "Take it easy, mate. She's still sleeping. Over there in one of the first-aid tents. Leave her alone for a couple of hours and she will wake up. One of the medics told me that she was drugged by many magical weeds,." Arthur said. "What happened to the army of chaos?" Henry asked. "They just seemed to melt from the inside, when the big git fell out of the window and exploded. What an amazing firework that sorcerer made, when he died" Arthur laughed. Henry couldn't see the funny thing in having lost a thousand men and only survived with a bit of luck and the help of Athrition's eagles, but Arthur had always had the ability to laugh even in the most desperate of times. Henry laid back and looked into the skies. He couldn't really remember what happened after the flash of light. Did Athrition kill Tzaakron by pushing him out of the window? Where was athrition? "Hey Arthur!" Henry called. "What?" Arthur said and looked back over his shoulders to talk with Henry. "Do you know what happened to Athrition?" Henry asked. "Athriti-what? The elf with the fancy birds? Haven't seen him. Maybe he's dead. Many are." Arthur answered. "We are only about 50 men left. 35 are from my tilean forces, 10 are elves and the last 5 are Brets." He said and walked away. Henry stood upright and went to the tent. He could hear Luinil's breath. They had survived. After an hour's waiting, Luinil woke up. The first few hours, she was a little dizzy, but then she came to herself and embraced Henry. "You saved me!" She shouted. "No... Actually, Athrition did..." Henry answered.

When darkness fell, Luinil backed away awaiting to change, but as ten minutes of darkness passed without any change, she opened her mouth not knowing what to say. Nothing happened all that night. Henry and Luinil went to a cliff a few miles from the battlefield. "I want to show you something, while You can see the darkness." Henry said very excited. They looked out from the cliff and saw the moon. It was a great, brilliant full moon that evening. "What's that" Luinil asked. "I bet you've heard of it. It's the moon." Henry asked. "It's beautiful" Luinil said. For all night, they just sat on the cliff looking at the moon. For the first time, Luinil could remain elven at night.

The End

Sorry it took so long, but it's a long reply. So long that it extended the maximum post length...
Wooooo! I love it!

Thanks a lot. Could you specify why?

Your thoroughness, the way you can keep such a long story fresh and interesting, and its general plausibility (for fantasy. When I use plausible in this sort of context I mean nothing happens like repeated giant monster attacks or sudden magic abilities manifesting out of thin air). However, to be critical some of the writing was a bit clumsy and I'm not sure how Manarion turned out to be Tzaarkron. But overall, a really nice epic.

I'm not sure how Manarion turned out to be Tzaarkron.
That's one of the things left unclear to the writer. Some says that Tzaakron posessed Manarion, when Farenil was cursed, but thet's only guessing...

Then I believe it is time for a side-story: the possession of Manarion.
Story can detail how Manarion became possessed, how he fought and lost against Tzaarkon's possession and why Tzaarkon did it.
Not that I'm being pushy or anything, it's just that that is a major plot hole that I feel needs filling.

Nice idea. I'll do that if I have time.

I would appreciate it.
