Ogre 'Rumour Roundup' - summary on page 1

original thread ↗

With the old topic starting to get a bit lengthy, with random tidbits and wishlisting thrown all over the place, I thought it'd be a good idea to start afresh now that stuff is starting to flow in from a variety of reliable sources.

Link to the thread over on 'Seer: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=312627

Release date: August's White Dwarf has confirmed Warhammer Armies: Ogre Kingdoms for release in September.

Author: August's White Dwarf has confirmed Warhammer Armies: Ogre Kingdoms is a joint work by Jeremy Vetock and Jervis Johnson.

Since the release of pictures of the new plastic monsters which will be making up the majority of the plastics we're getting, I've removed quite a few rumours mentioning them, as, well, they're not really rumours any more. Said monsters can be seen here: http://www.ogrestronghold.com/forum/index.php?topic=20098.0

Ghost21: Plenty of odd weapon options, including some from the old DoW.

Difisher: Plastic character(s) and a separate hero option that grants access to the Lore of Fire who has some cool special rules which have been reported by Deadhorse on Warseer and are detailed elsewhere in the roundup.

Zsoulless: Plastic character(s), Gnoblar Trappers to become some kind of Fanatic-like upgrade, which sounds similar to what EB's said about them.

VooDooChilly:
I heard today from a good source that they will be releasing the Braugh Slavelord model that was exclusive to GW managers in finecast and apparently GW are aiming to have the new Ogre's be the first non metal army and only consist of plastic and finecast.

A chap from one of TobiOgre's German forums asked his local independent about the current lack of Ironguts on the shelves. The indy then went and asked GW and this is the answer he got:
There are going to be new versions of Ironguts and the older ones are not produced anymore.

This could mean entirely new models (a bit unlikely IMO) or a repackaging, perhaps with new weapon options and frills on the frames (Cathayan Longswords, perhaps?).

From Jambodini, who in turn got them from someone on 'Seer:
Chiming in - I've heard of new miniatures for the butcher (unless its renamed) and possibly the hunter (unless its a new 'feral' type unit. The butcher is apparantly 'disgusting' and 'cannabalistic' - and plastic! They can also take rulebook lores (no idea on how many). Apparantly, there is also a mechanism of upgrading characters (like big names) in the book still.

From Deadhorse on 'Seer:

You get ogre magic, beasts, heavens and death mates.

With the caveat that if you have slaughtermasters/butchers in the army, at least one of'em (no restrictions as to which) must take ogre magic.

You also get a separate type of mage - fire mage. It is surprisingly cheap for what it does - aside from being a mage (upgradable to lvl 2 at standard cost) with ogre-character stats, he gets partial ward vs flaming attacks, flaming attacks, weapon selection and... wait for it... S4 breath attack.

Meaning infantry hordes will suffer much if they come within 12" of this fat hottie.

Honestly I'd go double fire mage. You can get up close and personal with these guys, they will decimate any T3 infantry, and will carry two arcane items: scroll and hellheart - all you need.

Hellheart BTW is a random but bonkers arcane item AFAIK: use at the beginning of any enemy magic phase. All enemy mages within a VERY random distance suffer a miscast. Resolve, proceed with magic phase. If any mages are left standing, that is.

Base cost of an ogre bull divides by 10 well. Equipment options are very cheap, like a point or two. Gut plate doesn't exist, so you're looking at a 5+ save/6+ward at best.

The big beasties you're curious about are so-so resilient. Tough as a dragon, but the best asv gives you a 50% chance of not getting poisoned by a skink shot, and it is only available on the monster that looks like it has a thick skull.

Delicious little tidbits?
There is a very reliable way to make opponents Always Strike Last.
All ogres seem cheaper. Slightly cheaper or nearly a third cheaper - the elites have a much lower cost per model.
Maneaters got weird rules that I wouldn't believe if I read them on a rumour forum.
Leadbelchers are good now. I think you can build a really, really shooty ogre army.

Tyrant is a little bit more expensive. Slaughtermaster I think is a lot more expensive. Conversly, all the hero options are much cheaper. With the ogre mages really taking the cake.

Overall I think you're going to be happy with this one. The list has enough potentially devastating "weapons" to completely annihilate an opponent if you play it right. The ogres got a bit cheaper, but more importantly - they got very good support units: unlimited gnoblars, some of the cheapest redirectors in existence, move and fire war machines of all kinds plus heavy cavalry with a truly monstrous statline.

From Darnok via a birdie:

Magic:
Ogre Magic has been reworked and spellcasting now works the same way as for all wizards. Spells are pretty much similar to what they used to be, except they last until next magic phase and are not RIP. Lore attribute is bloodgruel - on 2+ mage gains 1 wound and +1 to cast for his next spell, on a 1 takes an S6 hit.
Ogre mages can take great maw, death, heavens and beasts magic.
New mage model is the firebelly, who uses lore of fire, costs araound a fifth more than an empire cannon, can be upgraded to lvl 2 for the standard price of a wizard upgrade, can take a great weapon or extra hand weapon and has S4 breath attack, flaming attacks and 4+ ward vs fire.

Magic items and big names:
Big names still there and come out of magic item allowance. Didn't get changed that much from what you currently have. Best one is probably giantbreaker - doesn't require giant in the army - for the cost of dispel scroll model can't refuse challenges or flee but gets +1S.
Magic items are few and generally meh compared with common items. Thundermace basically gives you one thundercrush attack just like the sphinx has for a ton of points. Most interesting item is hellheart, which causes a miscast in all enemy mages within 5xD6" at the beginning of enemy magic phase - one use only, costs 2 scrolls.

Core units now include ironguts at five points less than they used to be, and with all command models costed at +10 points (which is same across the book).
You can get 40 gnoblars for the cost of one dark elf sorceress, and they come with throwing weapons attached and no prerequisites.

Special units got a lot of changes, leadbelchers will now fire D6 shots every turn, no misfires, and are move and fire with no penalty for moving. They cost one point less than Yhetees, which cost one point less than talisman of preservation.

Maneaters are half an empire cannon in points, and basically choose two special rules (you cannot chose the same special rule for two units) from a group of 8 - including poisoned attacks, sniper, stubborn, swiftride, strider, vanguard, itp, scout.

Mournfang cavalry is the new heavy cav, with a lot of options (potentially a 2+ armour save), tons of attacks and a price tag that is in the vicinity of a bloodcrusher, depending on what armour/weapons you take. 3 wounds, D3 impact hits and a total of 7 attacks per model make them somewhat fearsome.

Gorger is now special and gets a bit more expensive, but loses the rule by which it had to end movement closer to an enemy unit. It does have frenzy, unbreakable, killing blow and ambusher special rules.

Rare
Scrapalauncher is rare, slightly cheaper I think and similar to what it does now (S3 KB catapult)
Ironblaster is an empire cannon with horrible fluff and a pretty unpleasant misfire chart. It is nearly as expensive as a hydra, but has move and fire, S10 grapeshot and a special rule that allows you to roll two dice for bounce and chose the highest, even if one is a misfire.

The two mammoth-like critters are:
the stonehorn, which can have a mounted harpoon launcher (S6 D3 wounds 36" bolt thrower that doesn't penetrate ranks and is move and fire if mounted), 4+ armour save, does a lot of S6 impact hits on the charge, has dragon-like stats (but lower WS, Ld and initiative), M7, 4+ armour save and a special rule which halves the damage from all multiple-wound weapons that hit it.

and

the thundertusk, which is a support version of the above - has a mounted catapult that doesn't get hurt in any way by misfires, a harpoon and a 12" S6 KB weapon (chaintrap) - 3 weapons on its back, and gives all enemy models within 6" ASL. The tradeoff is - no impact hits and one less attack.

Both of these big beasties cost as much as around 5 wraiths.

A stonehorn can also be the mount for a hunter, which costs almost as much as a high elf prince.

Last but not least: the sabertusk. Special unit, 1-10 unit size. Each one has 3 S4 attacks, so aside from being the redirector of your dreams, it can sometimes work as a mage assassin. One costs slightly more than 4 halberdiers. T4 and two wounds.

They can't use general's leadership or battle standard re-roll, and their own LD is 4 - and can only be joined by a hunter - so I would say they will only come in two unit sizes - 1 or 10+hunter. This second option is not so bad - the unit will cost you some 350 points, but it has vanguard, swiftstride, and 30 S4 WS4 I4 attacks + whatever the hunter brings.

With thanks to Wilq, here's the rumoured point costs (in Gnoblars) for units in the book:

Tyrant - 105G

Slaughtermaster - 125G

Butcher - 50G

Bruiser - 52.5G

Hunter - 65G

Firebelly - 60G

Bulls – 15G

Ironguts – 21.5G

Gnoblars – 1.25G

Leadbelchers – 21.5G

Maneaters – 25G

Sabretusks – 10.5G

Yhetees – 22G

Mournfangs – 30G

Gorger – 45G

Scraplauncher – 65G

Ironblaster – 85G

Giant – 100G

Stonehorn/Thundertusk – 125G

Other rumours from Wilq includes:

Hunter still cannot be the general.

The lore attribute 'Bloodgruel' causes the caster to regain a single lost wound on a 2+ when a spell is successfully cast, the signature spell grants stubborn to a unit within 12"/18" (the latter is presumably on a boosted casting), and the rest of the spells include 3 augments, a hex, a magic missile and a template-based direct damage.

Trappers are purchased as an upgrade for Fighters and the Giant is now stubborn!

Clubs seem to be normal hand weapons with no special rules attached.

Bull charge grants normal impact hits, but if you roll 10 or more when calculating the charge distance each Ogre inflicts D3 impact hits!

I'm sure there's plenty that I've missed from several others, but these are the people I consider most reliable (no offence to anyone). Please feel free to mention stuff yourselves.

Rumours from Darnok sound tasty but not too sure about the Leadblechers having normal cannons and being move & fire!!!

He says they wil move OR fire.  I'm still not sure about normal cannons.  That would most definitly boost their points cost somewhat.

Maybe they have small cannons?  Like S5 with half the range of a normal cannon?
That's 44 achievements done so far.  44/101 only 55 to go!
I'd get increasingly annoyed if they couldn't move and fire, regardless of their STR and damage. If the rest of my army is running into combat I need a unit which can keep pace and still pummel pesky Light Cav./ Skirmishers/ flanking units, not a unit which sits back and watches my main units flank get charged.

Thinking about it, it could be an upgrade to the unit like the Savage Orc Big Stabba rather than the whole unit having normal cannons.

I'm excited about the new release.
I like the scaly skin save for ogres, that always made sense to me looking at the background. I hope it's not the regen bonus.

I'm not sure about the maneater rumours, sounds a bit like one of those units that you don't use because Ironguts are more cost efficient.

I hope the plastic yhetee rumour is false, I had hoped for some decent maneater / irongut plastics.

I like the current Irongut plastics, in general I think that our plastics are among the best out there, especially considering their age! Would anyone use the CLS option rather than GWs though? Especially if their save went up, although I suppose Str 5 is pretty decent, it'd depend on if we got WS4 or not to if I bothered to use them I reckon.

I don't like the regen idea. We can get a parry save that can be negated(flanking) if we want. Much rather have a 6+ thick skinned and a 6+ gutplate armour  save for a combined 5+ armour save. Add regular armour and we'd be good to go.
I would gladly take the CLS option if our Ironguts become S5.  Still wounding most infantry on 2's, only now you're WS4, I4 and still have the -3 armor save.

As long as we don't need to take a mandatory unit of bulls anymore.
That's 44 achievements done so far.  44/101 only 55 to go!
The Longswords would make them very good against a lot of mid to light infantry, but standard Bulls already do that very well. The stuff 'Guts need to handle is what they need GWs for, Chaos Warriors, monsters and other tough things.

I'd be all over that too, it's quite a cunning way to give Ironguts WS4 :D

I think that the 6+ almost has to be an armour save, seeing how nothing in our fluff mentions any restorative powers, only ogres being very tough to kill. This would also make sense as far as the gutplate is concerned, which they protect because the do NOT restore their wounds.

I really hope though that the Ironguts won't be getting CLS and instead the maneaters will become better. I love maneaters and I really want a reason to be placing them in my army. If the IG's got +1S AND CLS they'd just be cheap maneaters.

Although, getting scared because of possible bad changes does make me forget that we'll be getting cavalry! Moving a whole 2 inch more than our two legged friends, but still, cavalry!

The best will be if we get the 6+ gutsave AND the IG can take a shield/ironfist if they take CLS.  that's a 3+ save   (I don't think I'll be holding my breath on this one though)

I highly doubt IGs will get any form of shield

At best it would 3+ (scaly skin, gut plate, HA) at worse it would be 5+,6+(HA and regen).

I suspect that 4+ is the most likely bet though (scalyskin/gutplate, HA)

another rumor, this time concerning yhetti...

yhettes will be more bulkier

i'd be sad if my metal yhetee didnt fit with new models....

8th Edition Record (new book) :
Ogres - 25W, 4D, 3L

55/101 Ogre Achievement.
Also from Ghost 21:
Yhetees new models, possibly not first wave, will be more useful gamewise.
Slave giants will be a mount option, possibly for gnoblar characters.
Some sort of choice system for gut magic, possibly buying spells.
Hunters get larger packs and some sort of bear thing
Hunter possibly in resin
Ogres will have new weapon options

looking closely at this, hunter with larger packs.... possibly some kind of Herder? Like 1 Hunter + multiple pet? (like the Dark Eldar's beastmaster)

I dont where else to put this so I do it hear.
At the warseer Ogres rumors. The last few post have been saying that there will be no Incoming! Ogre kingdoms  and we only get a one week notice for incoming. It starts on #63 http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=304539&page=4

Don't see why there wouldn't be an Incoming! I mean, Tomb Kings got leaked as much as Ogres have been. I'm not cynical enough to believe GW would hurt their line hype just to punish a few loose lips.

Unless there was sunken ships. Like big ones. Full of fine cast merchandise.

harry's post didnt say there wouldnt be an incoming article, it was just about his rumor posts....
if our new book had just
1. a gutmagic upgrade
2. no impact hit distance requirements
3. increased defense of any kind even just 1 extra armor save
4. Rhinox become official
5. Hunter upgrade

Just those things alone would make our army exponentially more versatile.
Imo I can make my army withstand alot of punch and dish out more punch than normal as it is.

One of the rumors that got me pretty excited was the mammoth beast that we can mount with chars.  Hope thats true.
Detail looks a lot crisper than some older shots. It's certainly different to the standard GW colour scheme.

Though it could just be an Ogre model from a Studio guy's army. Just, you know, playing Devil's Advocate!

when i saw it, i was like "wow, they really improved their ogre painting over time"

i think its way too similar to previous model to be finecast... maybe they just wanted us to believe that Ogre can do nicely in Storm of chaos too...
My Blog
Could just be the paintjob, but I think the model itself does look a little more detailed than before, especially with the Gnoblar's facial expression. Asides from that, the sheer quality of the paintjob (around the eyes and gums in particular) makes me wonder whether it is indeed the new army colourscheme, it looks a little too good to just be something picked out of someone's collection IMO.

The crisper details could well be due to the fact, that the picture is like four times larger than the actual model and in very good resolution...

Might be finecast as well, I have nothing against the current butcher models. They fit the fluff very well, and look good on the table.

The paint job is, however, not really gory enough for my liking though.

That sure is one unhappy looking Gnoblar! Almost feel sorry for the bugger!

The only real limit on the effectiveness of gnoblars is the owner's tolerance for painting so many of them.
If they really are "about the same price as an Irongut", they might be more useful, considering their advantages. Definitely worth a try !
I would say one Yhetti equals about 22 Gnoblers. No new stuff or stats but aura of frost only affects enemies.

So what are we to make of SoM? For example Yhetees: Surely they would not be in SoM in that configuration if that is how they are going to appear in new AB or what would be the point? Does this mean we are not getting sabretooth packs (I was betting that we would and the versions in SoM look tasty too!)? In general, if it is in SoM is it out for our AB?

Why not? It's only a (presumably) 2-3 month wait, so it's not as though they're revealing too much too early. We're still going to have Yhetees, and 'Tusk packs have been a pretty solid bet since the release of the last book. There are units taken from other armies in the SoM too, like Razorgor herds.

Good point on razorgors, looking at it that way these could be solid hints for what is coming after all. The upcoming WF campaign book references SoM for the stats on the Lamasau too.

In that case; Ignore my previous STOOPID post. What do we think of the new style Sabretusks, yhetee and Rhinoxen?!

I confirm there is a mention of a Lore Attribute on the cards of our new "Maw" spells. No explanations at all given on its effects though.

That says one thing though : our book is finished and ready to hit the shelves, the wait won't be long anymore ! Yay ! 8)

See, though it fits with the spell we have now, and with what we have grown to expect from Ogre magic, I'm not sure if this is going to be the way they will go. Almost precisely becouse you have described it as "like TK magic" - it's too similar an effect for two very different armies. Plus with the Lore of Life attribute out there, there are already two different healing attributes.

It would be nice to see them come up with something different for the Ogres. If they remove the self-damaging aspect of the spells, there will be no real need for the healing aspect. It may be that they have kept the current names - which are cool - and applied a different set of rules to the spell/attribute. It could really be anything.

It would be nice to see them come up with something different for the Ogres.

Id love something like this;

Bloodgruel.  Gutmagic spells typically involve feeding and augment spells, such that whenever a gutmagic spell is cast on an ogre unit, roll a d6.  On a 1+, the unit takes a wound as some overexuberant ogre takes a bite (literally!) out of a neighbour.  On a 2+, the unit gains a wound lost previouslly in battle.  On a 6, the unit goes into a feeding frenzy! (the unit gains the frenzy rule).
Haha! Might be a bit powerful with the potential destruction that a unit of frenzied Ironguts would cause...

Their tears will be a perfect addition to the Butcher's cauldron.
No more so than frenzied Minotaurs with higher WS, S and I and proper impact hits for 7pts more.
I don't suffer from mental instability. In fact, I enjoy it immensely.

Gutlord Inquisitor: FORUM FIGHT! Me, I'm betting on the stronghold. Sure, they're outnumbered with thick skulls, stubborn bull-headedness and an inflated sense of self-worth, but hey, they're Ogres.
I think Frenzy shouldn't be a possible lore attribute, as it would be pretty powerful. However, a  feeding-frenzy-granting augment spell in the new gut magic lore would both be quite fitting. Maybe add the same rule minotaurs get with always having to pursue, but never being able to overrun, and it would be really fluffy.

A magic banner doing the same thing would also be cool...

All I wish for is the same level of internal balance we have seen with the new TK and OnG books.
I dont think frenzy on a 6+ would be an issue, but i agree that as an addition to our lore somewhere frenzy would be great.   I have always felt that braingobbler if cast on a friendly ogre unit should cause frenzy (glimpse the maw!) and turn it into a useful multipurpose spell (retaining the panic test on enemy targets).

Look at it this way; our lore will gain a 7th spell and a lore attritbute, if bloodgruel is an attribute, we are looking at *2* new spells, not to mention any changed ones like my suggestion above!
Let's see an Eyebiter spell where a butcher chows down on some fresh eyeballs and blinds the enemy unit, forcing them to Always Strike Last.
I am betting on a new Vortex spell. Not as powerful as Purple Sun or the Cataclysmic one, but a Vortex still (as Goblins and Tomb Kings received).
A movement spell... as the Bestial Surge - move d6+1" ... Man, how often have I hungered for a movement spell? It would be so awesome...!
I like the idea of making Braingobbler cause ogres to frenzy and thinlings to TREEEEMBLE.

Correct me if I am wrong (entirely possible) but I don't think I have seen this paint job before.  Could this guy be Finecast?

oAF

I, personally, think this is the Butcher in Finecast. I mean, look at this:

The difference is outstanding. Also, I can't help but think some of it has been resculpted, like the skull and the "fang" like thing piercing his skin.
I miss the Tenderiser...
I used to be called "Ghlezgar", if you want to know.

I don't think anything's been resculpted, the arms are at slightly different angles and the quality of the painting on the second one helps accentuate the dimensions of the skull better. That said, the detail is definitely much crisper and to me that definitely suggests Finecast.

Yes, I agree.

I have just finished painting two Butchers (one week ago), and I took the exact same options as this one for one of the two. I can assure you my Metal versions aren't as detailed as that. The hammer, the face, the fangs in the skin and the skulls aren't that nice on the metal version.
i think u guys are right, that butcher looks great and like a finecast version. does this mean we will also get a finecast tyrant instead of the rumored plastic characters if thats even still a rumor?
A little tidbit of info which excites me.....

A contact of mine, who does not BS has seen an Ogre boxed set, he said;

'It's a Tyrant (or looks like one) on a huge Rhinox'
He mentioned that he's not sure if they intend to change the style of Ogres a little, because this chap looked very feral and had 'battle damage' like he'd been fighting for a looong time, same with the Rhinox.

Not sure what that means myself, maybe he's a special character, maybe just that he's detailed.
However, it definetly (in my mind) means Rhinox will be in there.

He also said that he reckons Sisters of Battle are being released, then he'd be shocked if the Ogres weren't next, late Sep, Oct.

Nothing about the actual book content (i.e. rules) seems to be filtering through, which is a little annoying.

'It's a Tyrant (or looks like one) on a huge Rhinox'

Wouldn't that be a special character, like Gorbad ?
Maybe, but still it might be used for a Tyrant on Rinox afterall.

Kobby, the Writer
I happen to know some snippets of the forthcoming ogre book. I registred for the sole reason of posting what I was told, but still take with a pinch of salt:

Phil Kelly is author.

Plastic kits:
Rhinox Riders (on regular Rhinoxen) (box of 3, Giant Bases)
Scraplauncher/Skewer-slinger (Similar to Warp-cannon/plague-claw in design)
Great Mammox with three ogre crew and plastic tyrant option (Same base as Arachnarock. Imagine a cross between a musk ox and a Mammoth. Absolutely the most astonishing plastic set yet produced by GW!)
Yhetees (More gorilla-like, and and no more 80's hairstyle manes. Really dynamic for a plastic kit. Includes really awsome frozen Gnoblar-bit)

Litterally a small unit of Gnoblars can be made from the extras in these kits alone.

Finecast:
Jahred The Red
Golgfag Maneater

Old models redone in finecast: Goldtooth, Skrag, maneaters (box of 3, female, ninja and pirate discontinued), Tyrant/bruiser, gorger.

Rules:

Bull Charge will work always, even though you're less than 3 ogres and charge less than 6".

All ogres except butchers gain a basic 6+ save from their gut plates.

Ogre Clubs negates parry save, and is a general rule for all weapons like Choppas in OnG.

All army restrictions and max caps gone, but gnoblars do not count towards minimum core.

Weapon options for units cheaper, and minor point reductions across the board. Bulls will stay same base cost.

Magic will be standardized. Most spells will stay similar (augments with low casting values) but with greater range, and can be buffed to affect more units. May also be cast on Yhetees and Gorgers.

Rhinox Riders are super-hard. They get regular stomp and D3+1 Bull Charge, and also has Devastating Charge. (Special Choice). No mention of Bull Rhinoxen.

Scraplauncher, same but moves to Rare, does D6+1 impact hits due to Rhinox's horns.

Rhinox and Mammox are mount options for Tyrant.

Mammox can thunderstomp everything, like the SoM Bonegrinder Giant. Insane stats, but expensive (like 290 points base.). Crew can have leadbelcher swivel guns.

Hunter greatly improved. Move and fire with harpoon and monster-killing special rules.

Yhetees as in SoM, but with options for 2HW or GW.

Leadbelchers auto-hit, and can fire every turn, but only S4, no AP. Don't come with Light Armour.

Maneaters have massive point drop, and even more crazy weapon options. Can take a Special Character champion (Golgfag).

New Cauldron-altar rare unit for butchers, no new model. (Use Skrag?)

Lots of new special character. one with an insane magic weapon. Greasus now LD10 and completely rewritten (Stats, rules and items similar to Gorbad Ironclaw).

Magic Items:

Big Names Gone.

Half of items are Magic Weapons.

Tenderizer and Siegebreaker will stay.

Halfling Cookbook grants Loremaster.

There's a banner granting the same frenzy Minotaurs have.

Plastics will be out in October. Finecast in November.
Thanks for sharing all the information and the salt.  ;)

Bulls will still cost 17.5 gnoblars? OK, I'll say it plain: That'd suck, no matter the fact rumour that Bull charge always works and that there is going to be a 6+ base save. Screw that.  :(
What I do not like about the rumoured new club rule is that my opponents always know they will face ogres, so as far as they can they will just leave the shields at home and put the few saved points into other things.

The more I hear about the Mammox, the less I care about it.

Great to hear some "solid rumours" (there's an oxymoron for you). Thanks for posting. I'm disappointed to read about the points for bulls. The parry thing is actually better for the tourney player than the club player as Tobi hints. It will be interesting to see if clubs stay AP too - I had heard rumours that ALL ogre attacks would be AP so that + no parry wouldn't be too bad. Still leaves bulls overpointed IMO unless there is more to come (eg easier to Buff with GM or some other synergy/rule as yet unknown).

The Mammox rumour and skewer rumours are consistent with previous hints so I think that is gaining credence as does the plastic RRs and the fact they will become 1+ for many lists.

Big names are a surprise. These had been suggested to remain but not use up items points, I will be sorry to see them go as I thought them to be quite characterful.

No nods on any new infantry though. Hmmm.

Thanks for the news Zephyr and particularly for making the effort to sign up just to share. We will consume with appropriate Salty Comestibles!

Here's hoping the mammox has T10 so it at least has a chance of not being cannon-balled to death on the first turn.  Why should Empire be the only army to have a T10 unit (steam tank)?

If true, sorry to see big-names go.  They've been a blast, especially failing my stupidity test 3 turns in a row.

Awesome stuff! Some of it just sounds like stuff we've been saying for a while (glad to know someone's listening). I think the thing that got me excited the most was negating the parry save. I never did see how holding a shield could -stop- a club the size of a man from mashing him into anything but a well-rounded paste.
No matter what I'm going to be let down if they don't at least give us a plastic kit for tyrants.  Our characters are so dynamic and incredibly important to our lists - we deserve a nice kit like Empire/OnG have.  Though I suppose once the current metal kit goes finecast it won't be too big of a problem to head/weapon swap it...  Still.  Glad to hear about the Mammox.  This one actually sounds fluffy and not like a ridiculous longshot (I'm looking at you Warsphinx).  The Phil Kelly bit also makes me kind of nervous, though that's mostly bias on my part.  Apart from that, all the little buffs and additions like skewer-slinger, and gut plates saves sound great.  I can't believe its not even August yet...

Some great news there. Thanks for posting.
Nice to hear about the bull charge, ogre club, and gut plate all over due.

I'm surprised about the bulls staying the same points, I'd have thought our core infantry would have earned a decrease in points, if only for GW to sell more models. I'd like to put more bodies on the table.

I'll miss the big names they add some nice color.

Looks like we might be heavy in Rares if there is the giant, maneaters, alter, scrape launchers, Mammox, and gorgers.
I still think that Yettis are over priced in SOM when compared to trolls in OnG. but the extra hand weapon and buffs may make the useable.

Overall I'm excited, seems like a lot of the tweeks I was hoping for.

Cookbook makes you loremaster? Aren't the Butchers loremasters already?
Does this mean we will be able to field some lvl 1's (at lower cost)?

Also - I know this is "kinda" off-topic:

"You can just hang around outside in the sun all day, tossing a ball around, or you can sit at your computer and do something that matters!" - Eric Cartman

Would that be a reference to the most beloved game BloodBowl by any chance

It's not Warhammer-related. I'll narrow it down a bit and say it's a Monty Python sketch, but an obscure one, only a true fan would have seen it!

Looks like we might be heavy in Rares if there is the giant, maneaters, alter, scrape launchers, Mammox, and gorgers.

Indeed, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the existing rares were moved down to special and Leadbelchers found themselves in core. Heck, depending on what they do with Maneaters I could even see them in core ala Longbeards.

The current Gut Magic system is going out the window, expect the spell selection process to be the same as it is for everyone else. No more loremaster all round.

It just made me laugh

'Oh, really?'

'...But vee are losing big names.'

Gutlord Inquisitor: FORUM FIGHT! Me, I'm betting on the stronghold. Sure, they're outnumbered with thick skulls, stubborn bull-headedness and an inflated sense of self-worth, but hey, they're Ogres.
But that would break the Butcher's character; the very reason they're Butchers is because they serve a god of eating. Their magic is even more primitive than Beastmen, Orcs or Goblins and that should be reflected in having access to a single Lore.

No, you know what? Make Butchers function like Sigmarite priests. Dispel Dice, and Bound Spell "prayers." But that's just me.

I really hope they fix the model kits. It's bad enough buying a box of only six bulls, but I've made peace with that. I still don't like forking over the same amount of money for two fewer bulls and only get some great weapons or leadbelcher cannons in return. Bad form, GW. Let's see a six bull kit that comes with a sprue for great weapons and cannons and let us decide how we make the things.

And I want everyone to calm down now. Maybe we're losing Big Names, maybe not. But we're not going to be left out to dry. They'll include something to replace them that we can work with. An armory of unique weapons, or maybe they'll change it so that we get warpaint options or some such.
“Old models redone in finecast: Goldtooth, Skrag, maneaters (box of 3, female, ninja and pirate discontinued), Tyrant/bruiser, gorger.”
Nothing about a new butcher/SM?  Or just an oversight?

“Weapon options for units cheaper, and minor point reductions across the board. Bulls will stay same base cost.”
Might be ok what them now having a better gut charge and a +6 gut plate save, although I'm a bit unsure about Ogre Clubs negating parry saves, as it will only be of any good if they're using hand weapon and shield against us. It hardly compeers with O&G's choppas.  Will point reduction be for the command group as well? After all spending 50pts for a full command is just plain nuts.

The Mammox is something I'll have to see both the state and model before I can decide.  With the scraplauncher going to rare it makes me worried of how rare heavy we'll be, but it could mean we'll be getting new specials. Also are there any hints about a unit that can do long range shooting or do we have only the scraplauncher for that?

Other then losing big names it's looking on the up and up. I can hardly wait for the new book.
Come over for dinner, we're having... YOU.

He mentioned that he's not sure if they intend to change the style of Ogres a little, because this chap looked very feral and had 'battle damage' like he'd been fighting for a looong time, same with the Rhinox.

Just had a small epiphany. Over on 'Seer Zephyr said that Jhared the Red rides a Rhinox (I presume he accidentally missed that wee bit of info when posting here), which would suit FF's description perfectly.

The only real limit on the effectiveness of gnoblars is the owner's tolerance for painting so many of them.

My bet was that scrappie would go to rare, and Maneaters redone in some king of elite infantry and go to Special, I've said that before. Like every other army.

EDIT : Also, nothing on Sabretusks ? T2 on Gnoblars will hurt :(
And people on Warseer talk about a cost increase for the lil'buggers...

They won't make Gnobs T2 AND up their points.

Normal gobbos are 3 points and they have T3 S3 IIRC.  I can see them doing one of those things to Gnobs but certainly not both.
There is only news.  There is no good or bad.
So to sum up about Gnoblars :

If they don't count towards Core points, they go up in price.
If they don't go up in price, they could be T2.

"Hunter greatly improved. Move and fire with harpoon and monster-killing special rules."

HKB maybe? Shoot the creature in the heart with his harpoon? Been thinking about modeling up a ogre with the BT prod from the O&G BT. I got like 10 ogre bodies waiting to see which way to go with them....

Really hope the base bull price goes down so too put some more bodies on the table. But then again they do that and then raise gnobs cost so evens out and your still stuck with the same number of ogres.... :|
ONLY IN A COLLAR CAN A OGRESS TRULY BE FREE....
I'm not so bummed about the cost of bulls that might stay the same.

If these rumours end up to be true, a 35 point bull will have cheaper weapon options, and comes with a 6+ save.

That means you end up with a 4+ AS 6+ wardsave kitted out bull (LA, shield and gut) for LESS points than a 5+ AS 6+ ward save kitted out bull.  (And the 4+ one negates parry saves)

I am definitly running them with hardware if this is true, then the naked bull price doesn't really bother me.
There is only news.  There is no good or bad.
Just had a small epiphany. Over on 'Seer Zephyr said that Jhared the Red rides a Rhinox (I presume he accidentally missed that wee bit of info when posting here), which would suit FF's description perfectly.

That sounds very plausable and is more than likely what my friend saw.
I was thinking that nothing was mentioned in the rumours about my friends sighting, but this could be it, it certainly explains the 'feral''wild looking' and wartorn image he described.
I did think hunter when he was talking about it, but thought Hunter on a Rhinox was a bit different.

Maybe Rhinox Riders will all be Hunter-esque, having tamed the beast or broken them.
I think that's definetly plausable but I'm a little less pleased with Jhared being on a Rhinox in a fluff respect as I'm sure in the fluff it talks about him being raised by Sabretusks and being part/leader of the pack.....not having a faithful Rhinox Mount  :?

One big problem with hunters is that they compete with a very limited 25% for heroes, and if you take a BSB and a butcher you usually don't have any point left for a hunter. "Just use a SM and no Butcher you say ?", but then I need both a Tyran and a SM in my lord points, and in average games at 2000~2500 points I might not have the points available (unless of course they get reduced costs themselves)

As it is now, I would rather see the hunter as a rare choice with only the basic options.

This was only speculation, I wouldn't worry about it. I don't see how anyone would reach the conclusion that they'd go up in points without a considerable boost, regardless of whether they'd count towards the core requirement or not (Which is a disadvantage, surely?). I wouldn't worry too much about what'll happen to them.

It is rather annoying when they do that though - a character has a great story, awesome background, coherent rules and fluff to reflect it...then in the next book its like "No wait! That never happened...here's the REAL story!"

So I am going to say that I hope they do not put Jhared on a rhinox at all, he is a hunter and he should come with the only means to get an in-game sabretusk pack outside of SoM - after all, he has the most affinity with them, right?

Sadly the local tournament I really want to attend, North Star GT, is right off the bat in November. It happens on the 5th-6th and unfortunately the rules state, "You must use the current edition of any army book released before October 1, 2011." You need to get the puny thinling stuff out of your head. An Ogre is far too big for a horse and would give even something like a Griffon a hard time. Think instead of vast beasts which can cross leagues with a single thunderous stride!

I don't. I love my bulls. Maybe they're not the most powerful, but they're one of the few Core Monstrous Infantry available; unlike other armies where they are Special or Rare (and thus can be excused for having some advantages). On the other hand, few armies can field more than 3-4 Monstrous Infantry in a unit, whereas we can field blocks of 6+ bulls easily.

So if the rumors are true, a fully upgraded unit of 6 bulls will have:
- A 4+ armour save (gutplate, light armour, ironfist)
- A 6+ parry save (ironfist)
- An auto-hit Impact Hit with a +1 strength bonus from the bull behind him and an auto-hit Stomp
- 3-4 attacks per turn.
- He'll cost about 21.5 Gnoblars.

Most armies would pay that much just to have a champion of that caliber in a Special unit, and Bulls are our most basic Core choice.
I agree that bulls will be still a good unit to have. I just what to no what other think.

Ok another thing. Do to Bull more or lest get light armour at the start and  Leadbelchers losing light armour. I'm the only one that think Bulls will lost the options for light armour?
one thing worries me, those rhinox i belive they will be small ones on 50x50 not bull rhinoxes on chariot base,i am little dissapointed as those models will be now useless.
A release of smaller rhinox riders does not nessarily mean the bigger ones won't be in the book.
isn't the Juggernaught of Khorn on a Giant base?
The big Jugs are a comparable model size and use.
juggernauts are on 50x50 bases.
They are only on that size, because most bases of units, you'd put a juggernaut in are 50x50 or 25x25

Hi All,

Been roaming this great site for some time and finally decided to chime in. Super looking forward to the new ogres release. Absalutely cannot wait.

Not sure if it has been highlighted already, but in the latest issue of White Dwarf, page 107, states the new ogre book was written by, as quoted:-
"...and a fantastic new army book penned by Jeremy Vetok and Jervis Johnson.".

Gives a bit of weight behind the rumours Eastern barbarian has been saying me thinks (or maybe this is old news so forget what I just said... for my very first post :D).
Big Boned, I missed that part!!

(About Games Day) "If you're quick, you might be lucky enough to get your hands on the limited number of brand-new plastic kits and Citadel Finecast Ogre Kingdoms miniatures."

Wow! Do you think this means the GD that happened today, or the one in September?
Pah, Stegadon? Tenderiser, we have work to do.
Unfortunatly, I believe September
Ah, now I think about it, pictures would be already over the web if it was today's.

Not to sound mean at all, Big Boned, but can anyone else confirm this? Kinda came out of the blue considering plenty of others seem to have missed it.

Excellent first Gnoblar...how should I cook it
Oh, definately boil it in elf blood. Brilliant.
Pah, Stegadon? Tenderiser, we have work to do.
Hmmm, by the point you add enough sauce/seasoning to combat the lack of actual flavour in a Gnoblar, you might as well not be eating it at all. The choice is yours, of course, but I find letting him take Luck-Gnoblar duties is helpful once in a while (unfortunately, he'll be helpful only once).

Oh, and cheers MacVurrich.

Oh, and one last thing - what dates did people pick up their August White Dwarfs? I've got a theory I want to try out.

Indeed, it's today in fact. I don't know whether or not there's a preference for showing new stuff at any particular GD, but I would be surprised if there weren't at least some snippets. Today could be the very day we set eyes upon the new stuff....
Actually, GD shows off a LOT of models frequently that never see the light of production. I remember seeing new Eldar Jet Bikes years ago that look like Eldar versions of the "new" Dark Eldar Jet Bikes. So, they do have quite a few really cool models so nobody should get overly excited about seeing X Y or Z.

Just a random thought... Assuming leadbelchers get redone so they can shoot every turn and automatically hit at S4. 10 of them deployed 2 lines deep? Now that would put on the hurt! Especially if they keep the artillery dice for number of hits. Assuming they do that would be an average of 50 hits... BOOM! hur, hur, hur :D

It's also 550pts assuming they stay the same cost and you'll probably get 2 misfires, resulting in 'only' 40 shots and a dead Ogre. If they do indeed gain autohit (we can't really be sure of anything regarding Leadies at this point) I'll probably use about 3 on a flank, scaring the snot out of skirmishers, cavalry and other small support units.

Actually they'll get an average of 6 hits per ogre with 1/6 chance of misfire. Already calculated that one into the mix :) So 5 hits per ogre on average. Even if they lose one or two ogres they should be able to mop up the remains of the target unit on their own. And what's life without risk? :P

I love taking leadbelchers. I got 18 shots off in a unit of two in my last game. My opponent was freaking out until he realised I had to roll to hit. Four shots hit. One wound. He was scared though.

You're looking at 50 shots a round from 10 ogres, and about 2.8 wounds to yourself (average hits per misfire/2*10*16%).

What are these things ? Where did you get these pics ? Sky Titans Cannon ? I really hope there's no Rhinox Rider only because they already have the minis, and that they'll be in the book... BTW, really, what ARE these mounts ??

I'm not very fond of everything... I do catch the "Mammoth meets Bantha" thing though. Still undecided of I like it or not...

Ditto on the WTF. Actually said "Whaaaaaaaatttttt?!?!" quite loudly so lucky I was at home and not work

Also can't work out if I should be very excited or rather disappointed.....

Rhinox seem to have gotten a little cartoony, kinda remind me of the minotaurs.  The colour choice is hmm I like the white beasty but not the orange one.

Though the baby rhinox is a bit cute.

Not liking the angular horns.

Kinda hoping its not real and that the real ones will be better. Undecided.
I pee'd a little. I am digging this absolutely outlandish concept they're going for here! I can see why there's been confusion over 'big cats' and 'rhinox'.

For anyone doubting the authenticity of these images - they're legit.

Those are the big cat cavalry minis I've been banging on about (yes, I know they're not quite cats, but really how would you describe them otherwise?!) - although when I posted the rumour I hadn't seen them myself and was relying on my mate's 'cat' assessment.  I've seen them since though, and that's them.  Hope people will now believe the other stuff I've contributed.

Personally I love the look of the new stuff - especially the improved scrappie.
I realy like this new feral look of the army... unexpected but overall I like the new look and new kits. I am only not fond of new cavarly, esspecially mounts. What is that? Half sabertusk half rhinox... how those animals eat with those tusks? As I said overall this will be very good release.

Thanks for the pics murmandamus!
Love the hanging bits, the ogres, the scrappies and with a different paintjob the big gribblies.

Not too fond of the cats TBH and would rather have seen Rhinox Riders there.

But overall excellent stuff - the cannon and the gunner is just the most awesome GW mini to date IMO.
My hood is my castle...
The cav beasty on the right of the pair kinda reminds me of the grinch but with big teeth.
Thanks for the pics Murmandamus!

I echo most sentiments on here. Undecided as to whether I like the cavalry or not, they look a little bit awkward, both the physique of the mounts, and the positioning of the Ogres, but I dare say I'll warm to them when I get a view from other angles.

The Scraplauncher/Ironblaster looks nice, its re-assuring that when I get to the point where I can add the fun stuff, the Scraplauncher will be plastic and not metal. The Ironblaster cannon looks like it could be pretty devastating too, so fingers crossed on that.

Lastly, the Stonehorn/Mammoth. This is the thing I'm assuming will take most getting used to for Ogre players, in terms of it's aesthetics. I may be wrong mind.

Whilst I like the kit, I think the choice of the dark stone colour for the horns on the Stonehorn don't help it. If the colour was a slightly lighter stone colour, I think it'd look better.

The only thing I don't particularly like on the mammoth thing is the tusks. They seem to be made of/plated in metal, whilst I think they'd look much better if they were similar to real mammoth/elephant tusks.

On the whole though, some mighty fine looking models with plenty of detail. For example, I LOVE the State Trooper hanging from the Mammoths' 'Howdah'!

Also, does this crush all hopes of plastic Yhetees? I was really, really looking forward to those!

Anyway thanks very much again Murmandamus!
"Might makes right"
- Yep that's certainly the impression I get from these new models.

Whoever expected these (without having seen them beforehand, Difisher) put your hand up.

Nope, thought not.

I suppose 'wacky' is the word that springs to mind, not something we might normally associate with the Ogres, apart from the Scraplauncher. It'll take some getting used to, but asides from the tiny rear ends of the beasties it's not in anyway bad. I KNOW I'm getting a Stonehorn.

And it looks like human skin tones are here to stay.

Right, I'm going to start trimming the original roundup a bit.

What I like:

Raygun of Doom/Scraplauncher. The first name is just a guess, naturally. ;>) ...and my invisible pet gnoblar Edit just told me it is "Ironblaster")
The brown/red Mammox thingie. I'm SO gonna buy it, oh yes, and ask about the rules later.
The look of the new ogres.

What I don't like:

The white mammox. Too heavy tusks.
The cavallry. Too heavy in the chest, too tiny in the waist.

If there isn't going to be some kind of Rhinox, I'm gonna buy Rhinox nevertheless as "counts-as".

Kobby, the Writer
New Ogres look really... horn-ish... (is it a word ?) There's big tusks, big horns on the helms (the rightmost rider on the "Cat-cav"). Hermut is right : how do they eat ?? The good thing is they're mounted on chariot bases as far as I can see.

I like the Ironblaster! The Stonehorn reminds me the Yhette monster in "Empire strikes back" (well, at least the head). Do you think the big white thing is an upgraded Stonehorn ? Like a Bull Rhinox for Rhinoxen ?

I'll get used to it. Unless they totally ruined the Ogre fluff, I'll still love the fat lads. What can we see on these pictures ?

Fat Ogres : checked
Gutplates : checked
Sky Titans allusions : checked
BIG monsters : checked
Gnoblars : errr, not a single one ??
Big weapons : checked (now THAT is a crossbow!)

Damn it.  Was about to raise my hand as well.

I can honestly say that these are not exactly as I was expecting.  But I was told to expect massive cat-like cav and a really big monster that would be used as a character mount.  So I was expecting something like these...  Though initially I was expecting the cat cav to look a little less hyena and more lion.

Still haven't seen our new Fire-caster or the plastic kits...  Really looking forward to those now.

Is now a good time to raise the point that the guy who told me about the cat cav also told me Rhinox Riders are not in the book?  *ducks*

Pleased overall.
I heard that the mammox base was bigger than the araknaroc?
I find the stonehorns a little Chaosy, especially the one on the left with the barbed tail. A snow colour scheme will probably help as others have said.

The thing I don't understand is how stone can be part of an animal (The horns). I wonder what they would look like painted as bone.

Our bones are mostly made up of calcium. I want to say 95+% if I remember correctly but that was a long time ago. Calcium is like one of the top 10 most numerous elements in the earth's crust. Animal horns are basically a bone protrusion with a covering of keratin, what our hair and nails are made up of, on it. So the "stony" part is typically covered up. Antlers on the other hand are made up of bone that is exposed.

Now, if a creatures "bones" were made up of a denser mineral than Calcium and didn't have nearly the amount of pockets in it that ours do, but were denser it could be very much stone. The crystals growing in the horns are indicative of the creature growing them. They would seem to be more antler than horn but "Stoneantler" just doesn't have the same ring to it. :)

As for the horns made of stone the Warhammer world has stone elementals in it so its not much of a stretch to have stone animals especialy from up north near the chaos wastes.

I'm pretty certain that isn't our mammox. Maybe it got reported to be, but it appears to be an alternate build for the stonehorn.

Overall I'm not sure how I feel. They are most definitely some of GW's best sculpts in terms of raw talent. But the creatures themselves aren't very ogrey (a rhinox shares alot physically with an ogre, this agile, elongated creatures don't), and the photography didn't show case them well. The "cats" in particular are either really, really poorly conceived or really, really poorly photographed. The skinny waist thing isn't working for me.

If by RAW, you mean "Reg06's Audacious Whims", then you'd be right.

I'm pretty certain it is - I was told one big gribbly with 2 build options.  But as always, I may have been misinformed (but he hasn't let me down yet).
It looks like the two build options are similar to the two build options that stegadons get- same creature, two different usages.
At least I hope so. I think you might be right, but I hope there's a real mammox in store for us. Because seriously, that would be some serious suck if that is our mammoth.

Is anyone else getting a massive "Shadow Of The Colossus" feel from the stonehorn and the other thing?

From what I hear at warseer. It gives killing blow.
Now that i have cleaned myself up after the initial viewing...

Wow.  I am so happy with all of these models.  I mean we have been waiting how long?  GW did not disappoint.

I nearly crapped myself when I checked the forum today and found this...  The mammox is nothing like I expected really, and I much prefer the stonehorn...  But wow.  Nice models!  Very detailed.  Perhaps a bit too detailed...

Looking at the pictures I noticed the sabertusk riders mounts only have 3 toes on each foot. Maybe it's also a multiset thing with rhinox and sabertusk heads.

looks to me as if it almost shares the same body as the the scrapalauncher rhinox so you could be right

C'mon, the problem is not only the head! :) Do you imagine the same mini with a Rhinox head? Rhinoxen have big butts!!

As I look at them more carefully... Am I the only one to find that the standing of the riders is awkward ? Like the'yre on a big flat saddle rather than on a huge hunched Cattox running wild ?

The only real limit on the effectiveness of gnoblars is the owner's tolerance for painting so many of them.

And then it snaps off as you pack it away.

I love the Mammox drivers boobies and the frozen chicken.

My ogres are staying blue/grey/bone. Human skin is for eatin.

I also noticed that. I really hope it is just a terrible, terrible angle, because otherwise it looks like the catox had its entire rump cut off, and the ogre is somehow standing on its front shoulder with the sides of its feet.

Regardless of the name, the big beastie that's been at the forefront of the rumours is undoubtedly the Stonehorn. I'm 99% certain that the other gribbly isn't supposed to be a Mammoth.

Looking at the pictures I noticed the sabertusk riders mounts only have 3 toes on each foot.

Look like hooves to me. Not particularly surprising, the world's largest terrestrial mammalian carnivore had hooves.
I don't suffer from mental instability. In fact, I enjoy it immensely.

And some shall call him Tim... and this one Conor. This one is Fluffy, Tim's right hand gnob.
Still looking at details, the gutplates presented on the second pictures of Stonehorn make me think that it is definitly a mount option for characters :D

I'm digging the Ice Age feel to the beasties.
Though I question why it makes the Ogres look kind of like "Big Orcs."

I'm guessing these models are gonna fill out our Special and Rare choices. Now let's see that Army Book!
I really doubt that Ironguts will get a strength upgrade and I don't see why they would get Cathayan Longswords either as that would imply that they are being armed by Cathay who are there traditional enemies/food scource. Also I don't see where the idea that they will get an increased strength came from, essentially Ironguts are just Bulls with better equipment. An increase in weapon skill would be nice though.

i love the new pics im just hoping that we do still get rhinox because i loved the rules and it goes perfectly with the fluff and i agree i hope we do get an even bigger gribblie than what they are showing cause that stonehorn just doesnt look 2 big

I agree with you about  Ice Age feel to the beasties but I dont get what you  mean by "Big Orcs."
To me the guy at GW has been play Monster Hunter when they where coming up with this models.
Also I don't see where the idea that they will get an increased strength came from, essentially Ironguts are just Bulls with better equipment.
Ironguts are given a young rhinox as children. They then have to lift that rhinox above their head twice a day until they come of age.

Is it only me , but none of the riders seem anything special . Maybe they want hunters more active in the new book .

And if it´s what I think then the Tyrant´s mount will be even more grand . But following the other army books , mostly heroes or magic-users have big mounts . So maybe the Tyrant will have "only" a big rinox-bull like the forge-world one .

But even so , I think we are in for some very expensive autumn .
I think that 3 mournfangs with banner of eternal flame should be an exellent response to enemy hydras and abombs. Let the ironguts deal with the enemy main line.

Did you feel that 3 maneaters were enough for the purpose? I am also considering scouting/swiftstriding maneaters with ahw and a banner with gleaming pennant to take care of panic tjecks. I was considering throwing in as many as 6 maneaters. What is you opinion?

A new bit of news which I didn't read at the summary; heared from a local GW-er that gnoblars have a command group.

Seemed reliable to me, because he also tolded that the giant is the same as in the Orc and Goblin book and that trappers are upgrades like netters for night goblins.

BigD
- 5 fighters and 1 trapper; the beginning of a vast gnoblar army. A gnoblar revolutions is at hand!
That matches what has been said before. And all GW stores should have their books by now, or get them today at the latest.

Interesting setup with the wizards. Though you are a braver man than I to go into battle without a BSB.

The one Break Test I took I was not steadfast and needed to roll Snake-Eyes to stick around. BSB wouldn't have really helped there. He is great for when you roll a 10 and needed a 9, but when it was all or nothing(stupid Abom) he wouldn't have done much.

Yep - Gnoblars definitely have a command option (if your eyesight is good enough, you can make it out in a picture in the current WD - it's on a left hand page and shows the 'core' page from our new AB - the text is tiny and a little blurred, but it is readable).  What they don't appear to have is actual command minis - new gnoblar box has same contents as the old one (based on the box art showing actual minis - none of whom are command models).  So you'll be converting them if you want them.

Expensive. 6 should eat up a normal sized unit fairly quick. If you did I would go 3 with X-HWs(or pistols) and 3 with GWs. Your second rank will only get 3 attacks so make them count.

3 was pretty brutal against Clanrats, but I wouldn't charge Warriors of Chaos in the front with them.  As it was the Clanrats managed 3 wounds on them the first combat and my armor soaked up 1 so I got all my attacks and stomps. He was still steadfast and just in the 12" range of the General ~and~ BSB and so stuck around. Had he not I would have been past his line ready to blast through the back. As it was he stuck, and I was flanked by slaves. It was a testing ground though and I wanted to see what they could do to a unit with armor and shields and not slaves so I smashed the Clanrats.

3 is enough for me and for that tournament. There is comp restriction on points put into units and being 2.2k I want to squeeze in all the special things I can so I kept them a bit cheaper. The other thing is that with 6 I'd have a much bigger footprint and couldn't have squeezed them in out of his charge arc like I did so he would have to spend the turn reforming to face me.

Reading through the book I'm liking some of the changes. I love that Gnoblars have lost bicker and that Leadbelchers don't hurt themselves anymore. As well as maneaters and the mournfang cav. Also, loveing the Firebelly and the loss of some restriction.

However, I can't help but notice that the magic weapons seem sucky, and the runemaw seems expensive as well as the special characters seem way overcosted. Also, the big names needed to be re-written and some are just useless. I also don't like the restriction of having to take a wizard with the LOTGM ,as well as the fact Hunters still can't join units except cats ?

Also, Yhetees need a save / extra attack and still look stupid with flammable, which I stated when SOM came out. I also think that as the Gorger went up in points cost it could've gotten a save or the option to ake one.

Overall though I'm happy with changes made and it makes an OK army more viable, but I'm disappointed with some of the changes though.
You served us well rumours topic! Thanks for your excellent work here Eg (and other rumour posters)!
