I'm guessing that those are not it's natural tusks, just stone blades that the ogres jam into it.  It would be impossible for that thing to eat otherwise.  Unless it eats nothing but chest-high...er building-high walls. Or coconuts.

I doubt it.  While that crossbow may be big, it doesn't look like something that can take out Mammox.  Plus the model on the Mammox doesn't look that "Huntery."  That also means that whatever the Hunter is getting will be HUGE!

Looks like the Scrap launcher and the cannon are on the same chassis. I would be willing to bet that this will be an "either/or" kit like the Skaven Hellpit Abom. and the Tomb Kings Sphinx thing.
Either way, I see a lot of Ramen in my diet come the fall.

Here is the thing from my point of view.

I have been playing this game since 2005. (I know not as long as some of you) I left warhammer when 7th became poofy! But came back as soon as I read the new rulebook. In the past I played with Vampires, Tomb kings, high elves and dwarves. My favorite army was dwarves played them for 4+ yrs. Loved them. But when I left playing in 7th, I sold all but the dwarves.

8th comes around, and I decided to start again. I always wanted to try Ogres, and decided to sell everything I had left and to go for it! I bought the army book and a whole bunch of models and started to build. Only after I had started to play the game did I actually read the fluff. Since then, win, loose, draw I don't care as long as I am playing with my Ogres!

No looking at these new models, I can help but feel both ecstatic and let down. The models are all extremely well done and all look good in one way or another. The problem is that they don't fit in with the fluff!

I can maybe see a tyrant coming to battle on a Stonehorn, and I can see the scrappy, but I can't really see the rest happening!

1. Ironcannon thingy, Ogres don't build the contraptions, gnoblars do. Gnoblars get there supplies from looted battlefields. What battlefield does that cannon come from?
2. Those Cat Cav just look stupid for Ogre Kingdoms! What self respecting Ogre would ride to battle on one of those? Non I tell yoi! What self respecting ogre would eat one of those? All I tell you!
3. That Mammox, it does look good, but again, since when were Ogres so organized thay they could have this howdah thingy on a beast? And intelligent enough to bring one to war, steer it, not try eat it etc.

I just don't see that they fit. That is of course unless they change the fluff completely!

I Love my Ogres as they are. With a few corrections here and there (cheaper points, fix hunter and leadies, remove restrictions.), I think they would have been perfect. Maybe redo models, in finecast type stuff etc but beyond that, I would have been happy with just those changes.

Looking at these models I can tell you that my fear is that they completely change what it means to be an Ogre!

I don't really like the look of the cat cavalry,  something about it just doesn't look 'right'.  Maybe it's the short legs of the riders.

Apart from that I'm really exited about these models, gonna get all the rest for me for sure.

Kalel, I don't believe these mini's are so much 'out of place' with our current fluff as you claim. (except the cat cavalry, I'll give you that one)

IIRC Greasus is kinda our fluff 'go to' guy, and his tribe is so big and just keeps getting bigger.  IIRC our fluff even stated that they are no longer a nomadic tribe, more like the start of a small empire. (with trade and all that)  If that's the case then it would make sense that they might start using mammoths for war instead of eating them.

The Cannon thing can just be a few LB's who had a cannon they couldn't carry, so they just 'confiscated' a scrappy from nearby gnoblars and strapped the cannon to it.  They didn't have to build the thing themselves.

I think these pieces (except the cat cav) fits nicely into our fluff if they continue with greasus and his 'kingdom'

Erm... The text on the image itself indicates that the cannon is a Sky Titan cannon - therefore it was confiscated by Ogres when they defeated and ate the Sky Titans.  That's hardly a leap of imagination there.  Plus as MaanNaam says, strap it to a confiscated scrappie (after you've eaten the Gnoblar crew no doubt) and you're done.

I don't normaly make negative comments about Citadel/Forgeworld miniautes. But this 'cat cavalry thing' is not ok!

Kids put oversized solidier toy on a mount and that cat cavalry thing is like that! Both rider and mount are nice models as seperate but when they are combined...not good not good....

And about fluff thing...Ogre riding a dire cat......well i prefer ogre riding a dire rhino.

About all other minis, they are great...but BIG.... new scraplauncher is great by the way

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE these models! Just don't think they really fit. But I still want all except Catox.

On a side note, the Ogre on the mammox with the crossbow, is he picking his teeth with an arrow head?

Plus I'm thinking about building the Stonehorn, and modifying it by putting the mammox horns on it instead! Might look supergood!

And on yet another note, the way the ogres are standing on the catoxen is not so strange. If you look at all of the models, the ogres are always standing.

Anyone else notice that they have changed the skin tone of the ogres?  Most of the models in White Dwarf the last year or two of Ogres have been painted like this instead of the usual gray, but it is interesting to see it on studio models.

I'm with you Oqlanth. I had no expectations for the models/new book but I'll be honest,I just don't like the vibe of the models. Seem too chaos(ish). And like everyone else here,I'm wondering what is up with the 'cats. On another note,having seen the size of these models,I'm getting afraid of the prices these will cost. Please don't take this post as whining,because it's not,just my first thoughts. ''Look like chaos mercs" and "Wow,these aren't going to be cheap."

There are quite a few new models here, something we're not too used to here in the ogre kingdoms. We are also not very used to big monsters. I think these may take a bit of getting used too, there are certainly some major conversion possibilities here, and with your own paint schemes, there will be some awesome outcomes.

I can personally see good things in all these models and look forward to the book release. Then we'll really see if ogres will become a more competetive army!

Alright Clans...I'll take the bullet (cannonball, mortar shell, warpstone) on this topic...I love these new casts!

GW Marketing 101 has hit the nail on the head with this new line of Ogre Kingdom miniatures, and it appears they are all the rave on every other forum except Stronghold. This is not a good or bad thing, because when the smoke clears from the battlefield, it's all about profit.

The die-hard Strongholders are already sold on their existing Ogres, and to be quite blunt, they do not need new marketing to keep them sold on their armies. What this new line of miniatures does do is lure (and hook) in a whole new generation of Strongholders who will absolutely fall in love with the new miniature line, the new fluff to accommodate these miniatures, and the joy of modeling/painting an absolutely stunning (and frightening) army to match the new Warhammer Fantasy Battles direction of horde units and large centerpieces. While we all saw the change in unit size/cost when 8th edition became official, it would not surprise me one bit if the new Ogre Kindoms army book adopted new rules to bring back the MSUs, and make these a competitive force organization against the "horde armies".

To all those that say these do not fit with fluff:

Fluff by definition is a history in a moment in time. For all we know, these "catox" are a part of a specific tribe that was brought into the fold by Greasus.

Also why is it that everybody assumes the Ogre Kingdoms are stupid like Orcs? That they can't build, or are technologically unsavy? To be able to eradicate a populous (sky titans), rule an area without impudence (mountains of mourn), and evade capture (Cathay/Chaos), in my eyes makes them more than capable of subjugating a Stonehorn and installing a (crude at worst) saddle, to bring them forth into battle.  Remember "Might makes right". The sole belief that those who are strong rule...by whatever means necessary. Wether it be by big blocks of Bulls, or huge Banmothxes (), all that needs to be done is the job.

Oh and I love ALL the models. Will I buy them all? Maybe, maybe not, but I do see at least a Stonehorn in my future. What I can't wait for (good or bad) is to see how my fluff integrates within any new fluff that is proposed. Then I get to tweak and change it for the better...hopefully

Because the army book quite clearly says they are.

Few sentient creatures can survive the mountains of mourn. Also, since the ogres are already entrenched there it would be very difficult for another race to settle there.

They didn't evade capture from Cathay- Cathay summoned a frellin god-asteroid to destroy the ogres, and they were pushed West. The ogres are naturally resistant to the defiling powers of Chaos, and the armies of the Dark Gods normally wander around in warbands looking for glory, which is a bad way to go about waging war against even the primitive ogres.

Remember "Might makes right". The sole belief that those who are strong rule...by whatever means necessary. Wether it be by big blocks of Bulls, or huge Banmothxes (), all that needs to be done is the job.

"Might makes right" does not be that the strong should rule by whatever means necessary. It means that the strong rule because they can crush any resistance. To rule by any means necessary is conniving and sneaky, and that is the Skaven modus operandi.

The new models represent a change in direction for the ogres. The new mounts are lean, and fast, and agile looking- an ogre is none of those things (neither are rhinoxen, which is why they are so much better than those cats). The ogres don't build things more complicated than a club. And they don't use instruments- they shout loudly.

All that said, the models are still nice (mostly. I don't like the cats).

They do have cannons now. Or now they had them in past. Which does make the toppling of their castles impressive. However, the cannons were probably unimaginably rare. The titans didn't really trade with the smaller races, and aren't built to be able to mine, so black powder would be almost non-existent. They would have certainly used the cannons to defend themselves, and given that we now know they had this technology it is safe to assume they also had very finely made steel weapons and armor.
I always imagined the sky titans not as peaceful old hermits and shepherds, but more akin to the Viking age Scandinavians- small communities in an inhospitable environment, tough people, with small flocks of livestock.

indeed...and since we only have a history of one army book, making minor fluff changes isn't a big deal

edit: Basically.....I would welcome a fluff change that takes ogres from gibbering idiots with barely the brains to nail two boards together into a club to a race that while not all that advanced makes sure every resource they have is fully utilized with little waste. IE, what they can't eat they make into something useful.....in this case apparently something useful is a bloody cannon mounted on giant mammoth tusks and wheels which works damn well for me.

I could see the Stonehorn being an everyday part of Ogre life, but the other thing??  I think that the sculpter forgot proportioning when they sculpted the head.  What The Hell is that?!  A chaos terminator's helmet?  No wonder ogres can control it; it has the brain capasity of a snotling.

Sorry, just don't like the beast... the ogres riding it, those are nice.  If heroes and lords have the option for a crossbow, we can pump out almost as many shots a HE (well, I can dream, can't I?).

The only thing missing, IMO, are gnoblars hanging off the sides or "helping" the riders.  Loving the scrappie!!

Ehhh... hyenas are feliformia, a Suborder than also includes cats (as well as mongooses). So they aren't actually cats, but the two families are closely related (the hyaenidae and the felidae).

I think they will expand on the existing fluff of greasus overtyrant and him building an ogre empire for himself.  With that in mind all of those models would fit in nicely.  If you have an empire that is active in trading (raiding?) with other races/kingdoms then you don't have to eat every single thing that crawls out of the ground.

I think they are all amazing! The Stonehorn especially! Given the hunter is such an important person in the tribe I have been looking for a way to make his presence suitably felt on the battlefield - I am definitely going to get one of those.

I also really like the Sabretusk cavalry, I think the Ogres need this type of unit and I am happy they didn't go chariot sized as I think this will play better. I also appreciate the bit of humour of having a big Ogre on a somewhat undersized cat!

I choose Ogre Kingdoms for their character and that they are an exotic army. The new models have exceeded my expectations in this regard! 2012 is going to be the year of the Ogre!

That's not ogres though. Or at least it hasn't been. Ogres are funny in the same way that getting hit in the face is funny.
But you like them, and that's actually what matters.

Just an FYI, the 'mammox' is supposedly called a Thundertusk (via EB on Warseer).  I'm still waiting on frontal pics before I decide how much I hate the thing's head and love the rest of it.

Also, my biggest hope now is that the cats come with rhinox head alternatives.  I've decided that's the part I really don't like.  If this turns out to be the case, I will be very happy indeed.

These are the models we are getting. "Fluff" is irrelevant since since what WAS will change to what IS. Very little GW has done to its FICTIONAL setting has stayed the same no matter the army or game. HELL the ADDITION of the Ogres was a change to the WFB world fluff.
These arguments always sounds to me like sci fi, err..."enthusiasts" nit picking over continuity issues in old Star Trek episodes. Even if you are right, you still kind of lose.

(pretty sure the current time-line doesn't makes sense for that explanation though) Was there another twin tailed comet that sky-titans revered? it doesn't really make sense to me. The model is still awesome though.

I noticed that too.  The only thing I could think of is maybe the Skytitans saw the Maw in comet form and used that as a symbol of war and doom on their weapons.  The twin-tail thing is very strange though.  Who knows...

The titans were killed between 2500-2700 years before Sigmar was born... so the sky titans were prophetic?

The twin tailed comet has appeared over the Warhammer world on multiple occasions, one of which marked the coming of Sotek and the victory of Lizardmen over Skaven for instance (i.e. it's not always Empire related), so the Sky-titans could indeed have revered the twin tailed comet too.
I can also see why powder kegs would have Empire symbols, as those have probably been looted.

That's likely the case. There have been other twin-tailed comet sightings after that too though, and for all we know there could've been some before! Perhaps when the Sky-titans met their demise they passed exclusive rights to twin-tailed comet merchandising to the men of The Empire

   New User here just wanted to note a few people seem to think the new Ogre models are standing on the mounts, they are not there is a saddle under all of them its just as tall as their legs so it makes them appear to be standing.

PS So glad I found the Stronghold I have been playing Ogres for a year or so and not having much luck with them till I started reading tactics here.

That is an ogre glyph, which I believe refers to food, or the Feastmaster tribe.
I've looked some more at the cannon, and it looks almost like the cannon is covered in pictographs that might tell a story, or history.

Welcome to the Stronghold Keerplunk. I also wondering about that, but then realized humans riding horses have legs than sometimes hang almost vertical and it thus didn't matter.

The beast are all a little doctor Seuss For my taste.. But its nothing a minor little touch up cant fix.
The Gribbly kit looks fun. And face it we just Plain NEEDED a new scraplauncher.

Cant wait to see the new character models. One in particular I really want a look at.. See how it stacks up.. 

Head swap looks good, but it's a bit expensive isn't it?  Buying a Scrappie for every 2 cat-cav model! 

I mean, you could buy a couple of scrappies to use as Scrappies and have the 2 spare heads, but after that...

Personally, I like the cats.  But if I didn't, I'd have to REALLY hate them to want to shell out that kind of cash to change them!

Bits stores and Ebay are your friend.. Im sure if I needed them I would be able to find Rhinox heads for under 2$ a piece..

You coudl always buy some of the rhinoxes from bits stores/ebay and use them to mount the riders on if you want rhinox cav

Wow I didn't notice the photo shop job you did on the cat mount at first! I think I will be doing the same on mine though (for personal use only) I may just cast a few extra rhinox heads instead of buying a bunch of scrap launchers.

Very excited, since getting WD i've reread the inside back cover a dozen times and all it says is 'wait a month'.

I don't like all of the new models though, I hope those 'cat cavalry don't turn out to be our rhinoxes, they are just too skinny in the flank. The cannon is great though and it does seem to be  on the scrappie chassis, I was at games day UK in 2008 and one od th Golden Demon finalists was a very nicely painted leadbelcher riding a rhinox and titles 'another kind of scrap launcher'. As soonas i saw the cannon i thought of that and I do wonder if it was an inspiration.

From a game play point of view that kit looks exciting too, it will mean we have two types of 'heavy' artillery, both of which go off like chariots when things stray too close. sounds fun.

I will say that i do think a few of WH's beasts and monsters are getting to junky and ill concieved, both cat things and mammox's are examples as are a lot of the storm of magic monsters, and I'm not sure I like it, it also is changing the game, whereas 8th swung it back to being about armies of troops recent developmnets are making it all about the uber monsters. Not necessarily a bad thing, unless you are in Australia and the uber monster kits are going to cost over $100.00 ...

I just  noticed the ogre skin colour. I am assuming these pictures come from or can be traced back to GW or the studio, so does this mean they have dropped the grey/green colour as ogre standard? I didn't notice at first as my ogres are brown skinned anyway,

The tusks on these... catoxen... like the other models, are strangely segmented. Almost insect-like. Haven't seen horns like that in nature! If I get those, I'll be smoothing down and making them a little less over the top. I love the tyrant mounted though!

I can barely justify neat things in my army now vs nekkid bulls, I certainly hope for some points reductions so I can actually take some of this stuff.

Like so many others i don't like the new cat riders. Was hoping for more of a "FW" Rhinox rider plastic kit. But GW can´t satisfy all of us "old ogre bulls" out there. Try to make the most of it. I like a challenge, and will try to make them fit into my army.

I have to agree with most everyone else, the cat cav models look unbalanced and somewhat off (and they're not Rhinoxes......), but I'm going to hold overall judgement on them 'til we get a look at their rules, along with the big white gribbly (which looks like something out of spirited away i think).

That being said, I LOVE the look of the stonehorn. It's practically screaming "Let me at the biggest, nastiest thing they've got in their line, I wanna grind it into paste", and the extra bits could be used to convert a wicked hunter/tyrant/bruiser/etc. Like the giant kit it has all those really nice characterful bits like the Empire trooper in the cage, and I can't wait to see the sprues for it. The Ironblaster brings new meaning to the phrase "BOOM hur hur hur" and I'm glad to see that it's multipurpose with an updated scraplauncher, I'm definitely taking as many of these as I can afford

i think we reached a point where redundancy is key.

kinda like in 40k. You need to have redundancy, and stay in combat at least 2 round, so you avoid getting shot at... not as easy with fantasy, but those monster seems to want us to get that approach.

The cat cav would look cool as just packs of cats, I think the riders are too large for the slender behind of the cats however diffrent shots of the models might make them look better. Still not sold on the un organic look of the horns, would prefer them to be bone to be fair, on the stone horn that is.

I think this is a fallacy that has cropped up from too many tournament-based podcasts (Bad Dice particularly). There are only 2 armies in the game that have cannons, and only 4 that I can think of that have Stone Throwers. Out of about 15 different armies. There are going to be plenty of games where your Stonehorn is at worst going to face some bow fire or a Bolt Thrower on his way across the board.

Please don't think that monsters are worthless because they get killed by cannons. If they don't have cannons, you're on to a winner!

Ok, you got me, there's our new cannon thing too.

But we have no idea if that is going to be a traditional "cannon" for killing big stuff, or a much larger version of a Leadbelcher cannon. Personally I have a funny feeling it will be the latter. We have Tyrants for killing big monsters, after all!

I managed to take down a full-wound Araknarok in 2 rounds the other day with just the Tenderiser and 2+ armour save. Good times.

I love the Stonehorn and the Scrapy but the Cats will NEVER join my ogre tribe. The look totally out of proportion and don't even remotely look like a cat.

The cannon is a Special choice, Scrap launcher might be moved to the Rare section, leadbelchers to Core...I present to you the Ogre Gun line!  Never thought I'd say that.

i think the stonehorn's going to be a line breaker while the thundertusk fills more of a support role, word is its gonna be something of a living stonethrower. and apparently the ironblasters will be able will be able to move and fire with those gigantic cannons

I was thinking the same.  Maybe with more angles, different paint jobs, and tusk-clipping they could be decent models.

with all these new models i began to wonder what will be the contents of the new battalion. my gues: 4 bulls, 4 ironguts, a scraplauncer kit, and 24 gnoblars

I'd expect the mournfang over the scrappie, if the cavalry is plastic.
But really there's no need to change the battalion.
