Monthly Painting Challenge ((January 2011))

The idea is, you make a promise to paint and/or convert a given number of models at the beginning of the month, and report back with your progress, if and when you manage to complete it. From here on out we will refer to this as your "Pledge"!

The Rules:

• All Pledges will be frozen After the 10th Day of the Month. There is no changing of *any* pledge after day 10. Pledges are still accepted after the 10th of the month, but they can not be changed once they are made.
• When you finish your pledge you will be rewarded by the bronzing of your name on the List of pledges below. If you would like You can then go on to add a Bonus pledge and look really impressive. However, your name can not be bronzed before the freezing of the Pledges on the 10th. Any additions to your pledge made before the 10th go onto your initial pledge and will not count as a Bonus pledge.
• We need to know The number of Models when you post your pledge. 3, 8, 10, or even 100.. Saying "A unit" is not acceptable..

*Please* post The progression of your work ((pictures if at all possible)). One of the best things about this thread is watching everyone's work come together. It's perfectly fine if you don't post any photos, however. Feel free to make your own separate Thread, and then link it here so that others can comment directly in your thread ((Either here in the Butchers cauldron or posted in your ongoing Gnoblog)).

FAQ
Q: So I can Only do Ogre Kingdoms or GW Minis, for my pledge?
A: No. There isn't anything stopping you from building and/or painting anything you like, However this the Ogre Stronghold, I think most of us would prefer to see Ogre models. If you're working on one of your other Armies, and/or any other Models please feel free to make a Pledge.

Q: I need to change my Pledge!
A: well.. You have until the 10th day of the month.

Q: What if I don't have a camera?
A: We operate on the honor system. If you say you did it, we believe you. There are no prizes, so you only get the satisfaction of lying on the internet if you choose to do so.

Q: Will you do one of these every month?
A: That's the goal... We will do one of these close to the beginning of every month...

Q: What if I finish my pledge but decide to do more?
A: Paint away! If you mean, can you get a head start on next month, I guess so. But it's not as big of an accomplishment  to make a pledge with 75% of the project painted at the start of the month...  Thats not to say that sometimes the last 25% of the project your working on Is not more than worth being a pledge of its own..

Q. I have not completed my Pledge for the past Few months, should I still enter?
A. You bet! The idea behind a painting challenge is to develop some discipline as to  what you're going to build or paint. Part of the challenge is to learn what you can complete within a given month, and what you can't. If you find you're not able to complete your pledge for the month, then reduce the size of it.

Q. What if I get my Pledge done early?
A: Well, if you get it done early, you can try to make a Bonus pledge where you can add an additional challenge only after the existing work is completed. No bonus prizes to be won, but you will get the respect of everybody. Additionally, this can be a way to make sure you don't overdue your original pledge..

I pledge to Paint my 3 massive man-eaters, and finish converting my 2 "iron-guts" and finish my bull champion at the very least.

Ok my first monthly challenge pledge! I pledge to start and finish the Dreadstone Blight tower I got for Christmas.

Quite suprised I actually managed to finish painting to a deadline without rushing or stressing!
Brilliant, as December was a very busy month 

So on to January's.
I've already picked out what I'm going to be doing, it's "Paint 10 Slaves and a Warlock Engineer"
Should keep me going for a while and will be challenging to get done, but I'm aiming to get a bonus pledge in too as I really need to pick up pace on knocking Skaven R&F out.
We'll see

Ah, I managed to finish my painting challenge, so I guess it's best to try again can I do it twice. 

I'm going to paint:

- Bruiser
- 8 Wraiths
- a Dwarf
- a Necromancer on a steed
- 5 Spirit Hosts

Yup, I ran out my Ogres so I have to move on other things. The Wraiths, the Necromancer and the Spirit Hosts for my undead army, the Bruiser for my Ogre army. Finally the Dwarf for a competition on Warhammer Forum.

I'm taking a bit of a break from Fantasy for the moment, as I've not figured out what I'm doing for my next tournament yet. So my pledge this month is to paint one model for my new War Machine force. I'm not specifying which, as it gives me more freedom to try a few things!

If I do ever figure out my army for the Swiss Cheese in Feb, I may also have some extra things to add to this...

             convert and paint 5 chaos warriors

I want to add Necromancer on Steed on my pledge list, I found him yesterday from my shelf and now he's almost painted. 

Edit: And I want to replace the Zombies and the Gnoblars into 5 Spirit Hosts, I decided it's best to paint all my ghosts at once.

I do solemnly swear to paint a Rhinox Thunderlord model (which I'm using as a Giant, despite thinking they suck the big one...).

I love the model but unfortunately I suffer from 'If it's painted it's bloomin' well gonna be used!' syndrome....

For my January painting pledge I am trying to have my Amazon Nun Blood Bowl team done to at least a three color standard for an upcoming tournament this month (Put A Ring On It - 1/15 near Chicago). So far I have started the black. Just a skin color, white, red (for some cloth), and gold to go!

Wow, those wraiths are great. Very good job on the blending. Very eerie.

Even though Im supposed to be fully medicated and on Crutches till the 17th.. Fearing I would go INSANE, I stopped using both about a week ago.. And I really just need to get back to work...
