Monthly Painting Challenge ((December 2010))

Im going to go ahead and kick this off a few days early To give everyone a fighting chance against the beast that is the Holiday Season..
So.. Borrowing from other modeling forums like the Waaagh and Privateer Press..
The idea is, you make a promise to paint and/or convert a given number of models at the beginning of the month, and report back with your progress, if and when you manage to complete it. From here on out we will refer to this as your "Pledge"!

The Rules:

• All Pledges will be frozen After the 10th Day of the Month. There is no changing of *any* pledge after day 10. Pledges are still accepted after the 10th of the month, but they can not be changed once they are made.
• When you finish your pledge you will be rewarded by the bronzing of your name on the List of pledges below. If you would like You can then go on to add a Bonus pledge and look really impressive. However, your name can not be bronzed before the freezing of the Pledges on the 10th. Any additions to your pledge made before the 10th go onto your initial pledge and will not count as a Bonus pledge.
• We need to know The number of Models when you post your pledge. 3, 8, 10, or even 100.. Saying "A unit" is not acceptable..

*Please* post The progression of your work ((pictures if at all possible)). One of the best things about this thread is watching everyone's work come together. It's perfectly fine if you don't post any photos, however. Feel free to make your own separate Thread, and then link it here so that others can comment directly in your thread ((Either here in the Butchers cauldron or posted in your ongoing Gnoblog)).

FAQ
Q: So I can Only do Ogre Kingdoms or GW Minis, for my pledge?
A: No. There isn't anything stopping you from building and/or painting anything you like, However this the Ogre Stronghold, I think most of us would prefer to see Ogre models. If you're working on one of your other Armies, and/or any other Models please feel free to make a Pledge.

Q: I need to change my Pledge!
A: well.. You have until the 10th day of the month.

Q: What if I don't have a camera?
A: We operate on the honor system. If you say you did it, we believe you. There are no prizes, so you only get the satisfaction of lying on the internet if you choose to do so.

Q: Will you do one of these every month?
A: That's the goal... We will do one of these close to the beginning of every month...

Q: What if I finish my pledge but decide to do more?
A: Paint away! If you mean, can you get a head start on next month, I guess so. But it's not as big of an accomplishment  to make a pledge with 75% of the project painted at the start of the month...  Thats not to say that sometimes the last 25% of the project your working on Is not more than worth being a pledge of its own..

Q. I have not completed my Pledge for the past Few months, should I still enter?
A. You bet! The idea behind a painting challenge is to develop some discipline as to  what you're going to build or paint. Part of the challenge is to learn what you can complete within a given month, and what you can't. If you find you're not able to complete your pledge for the month, then reduce the size of it.

Q. What if I get my Pledge done early?
A: Well, if you get it done early, you can try to make a Bonus pledge where you can add an additional challenge only after the existing work is completed. No bonus prizes to be won, but you will get the respect of everybody. Additionally, this can be a way to make sure you don't overdue your original pledge..

I pledge to build and Paint 10  of my counts as "Marauders" for my throgg list

I know its a bit of a slim challenge.. But I have Hip surgery on the 6th.. That + the holidays = Im not sure how coherent Im going to be...

I have 10 ogres to paint for a tournament on the 11th-12th December, guess I should put it here!

Love the idea, I like to set myself deadlines anyway, making them more public will motivate me more

My pledge is to "Paint up 1 Warp-Lightning Cannon and 8 Slaves"
Should be tricky as I have a Tourney leading up to the deadline and this is the busiest time of year at work, but I can aim high

My pledge is to paint 13 ogres (6 bulls, 6 guts, Butcher) aswell as assemble and paint 45 gnoblars.

I'm in! I want to paint my unit of 40 gnoblars (sight) I need them for a tournament.

2 kids, holidays... hmmmm...  No Ogres to go currently...  hmmmm... 

I pledge to paint Typhus, Herald of Nurgle and my Doomsday Device (made out of a hacked up Drop Pod). 

I'll finish up Typhus' personal Land Raider too, but it is almost done, so I don't think it should count...

Since I have to paint the models soon, I'm down for 10 Dark Sun minis.

I'll make a pledge.

I'll paint a unit of 30 swordsmen.  I need to get them done for a friend and this might help me get my butt in gear.  I have something in mind for the bonus, but I'm not committing to that yet...

I'll paint a unit of 10 Wyches.

I'm aiming for much more than that, but i dont wanna fail.

This is pretty rad.

I pledge to get at least two more Ogres for my BB team painted. I am finishing up my Nurgle and could probably do more but I also have to get the next issue of the Bellower done.

The base of the Warp-Lightning Cannon has been started and the Slaves are yet to be undercoated.

I'm in!  I have a redicilous number of models to paint for a tournament at the end of the year (29.-30.12.) so this could be nice piece of motivation too. 

So, I have to paint 40 Gnoblars, 9 Bulls and 8 Ironguts (+ 1 Gorger).  Yes, it's a terrefic amount of models but I'm known as a fast painter (and the school is out at 18th day  ) so why not to try?

And now I'll get my paint brush and start finishing my Gorger.

Well I just found out about a painting comp I would like to enter the first of the year.. Soo.. since its not the 10th yet Im going to amend my Pledge really quick.. 
Instead Im going to do a full Mini sculpt and paint + a Display base for competition.. If I manage to get that done in time I may just try to knock out some more marauders..

It looks like I failed as well. On the plus note I failed because I started a new job working 12 hours shifts, and I finished my last paint commission job! So its clear sailing now.

I have mine done but I need to get a picture up!

I failed too. Sister is in town for the Holiday. So close too, only had a gutplate and four bases to do.

I slept in *really* late on the last day I had to paint, and fell a model short. I'll see about pictures.

I have to fess up and admit my failure. Lots of little reasons but will bow my head in shame..and then lift it again and attempt to get them done asap and pictures on here.

They're a bit rushed (plenty time spent on me Gorger...) but they'll do.

Still messing around with my new light box. I think I got the lighting better this time around and the pictures are much clearer. Color looks good too. Not too jazzed on the composition (the Ogre is standing a bit wonky) but here are pictures from my Ogre Stronghold December painting pledge:







There! One Ogre done for my Blood Bowl team. I am pretty happy with how he turned out overall. Spent more time on the skin tone on this guy and I also worked hard to make the blood look "realistic" without being too overpowering. Can you make out his gold teeth under the gore? I also worked on my first ever "battle damage" on the numbered shoulder pad... wanted to give it a worn look. I think the results are pretty good.
