Rating System
**** Excellent
*** Very Good
** Ok
* Rubbish

1. Shields
Used with single handed weapons only in combat. Disadvantages cannot use other Magic Armor items with the Magical Shields.

Enchanted Shield**** This is now very cheap and can be combined with Mundane Heavy Armor to give a 3+ Armor Save (AS).

Charmed Shield*** (one use only)  Cheap 5/6 chance of discounting the first hit, a nice anti Warmachine save.

Shield of Ptolos** 1+ AS vs shooting has to be good, probably best on a Hunter or if soloing a character.

Spell Shield* +1 to AS, but more expensive than Thiefstones so not recommended for Ogres.

Iron Fists* The problem being it can only be used in combat and prevents Magic Armour being used, also can only be used with a hand weapon.

2. Armour

Mundane HA*** The Ogre characters come with Light Armour so this up grade only gives +1 to AS. However when combined with certain Magic Items might be useful.

Glittering Scales **** This stacks nicely with the Greyback Pelt for a -2 to hit the character wearing both these. Add a weapon improving WS and your character is hit on 6's. Very nice!!!

Tricksters Helm**** Combine this with HA for a 4+ AS & Mawseeker T6, any wounds against the wearer must be re-rolled. The higher toughness makes this item more useful. Another possibility is using the Mountain-eater Big name so the opponent misses on 1's and 2's.

Armour of Destiny*** HA with a 4+ Ward Save quite a nice armor option. Could be good with the Death Cheater or Mawseeker Big-names.

Armour of Silvered Steel*** A 2+ AS is nice, maybe combined with a Talisman with a Ward Save.

Armour of Fortune*** HA with a 5+ WS. This is very similar to the HA & Wyrdstone Necklace build but more expensive, however it won't wound the character. A cheap option for Tyrants (not using the Wyrdstone) who pay 8pts for the HA upgrade.

Helm of Discord** +1 to AS so with HA gives a 4+ AS. An enemy character in base contact makes Leadership test if failed cannot attack and is hit automatically. This could be quite good vs. Low Leadership Characters or if combined with the Skullmantle/Brahmir Statue.

Gut Maw*** Combined with HA for a 4+ save, add the Wyrdstone or Talisman of Preservation or Talisman of Endurance and you have a character who can regain their wounds if they win a challenge.

Greedy Fist*** With HA & Wyrdstone, Tali of Preservation or Endurance and you can destroy opponents Magic weapons.

Great Skull*** This causes miscasts on 1's, 2's and the usual 6's. This item could therefore help protect a unit from Magical attacks, however Thiefstones might be better. Also the discussion as to it affecting our own Buffs on the unit?

Dragonhelm** This item can be potentially very useful but also very situational great vs. Flamers, Salamanders, Dwarf Flame cannons, etc. Otherwise treat as a +1 to armour save.

Gamblers Armour* HA & a 6+ WS is not that good.

Enchanted Shield is definitely four stars in my book, my Ogres don't go into battle without it.
Actions speak louder than words, unless your eating a mime of course.
Can't you combine magical shield and magical armor?
Death ain't nothing but a next meal away

- My Ogre's saying

My first pet Gnoblar. Let it's name to be The Thinny One
No, what you think you read is actually referring to the act of combining a magical shield with mundane armour or magical armour with a mundane shield.

important note: charmed shield does NOT block a wound, it discounts a HIT - that means you roll to see if the shield works before checking to see if the hit actually wounded.

a sword gnoblar could deprive you of its protection.
x105 - keeping pace with my wins!

Ogre achievements: 65/101 latest: maneater (play in 5 different venues)

Latest Fantasy Result: ogre kingdoms vs. high elves - 1500 points - win!

I was born and bred in a briar patch!
Ty WC I will fix it

Another good reason for taking Sword Gnobbies!!!

I think it is quite good on a solo character (that first hit could be a cannonball!) but not so great for a character in a unit. In that case I'd take it if I had 5 pts and nothing better to buy for the points.
First post, found the site whilst looking for painting tips for the skin!

Been playing Ogres since 8th came out, and my Tyrant is yet to be killed in HTH. Usual kit is Sword Of Anti-Heroes, Tricksters Helm, and The Other Tricksters Shard.

Bit of a challenge machine. Kit out is somewhat circumstance, but as he leads a Horde unit of Bulls (SO HARD!) I usually end up with a lot of enemy characters in BTB to contribute those lovely extra attacks. Extra S doesn't hurt either!
I thought that we cant take magic shields as we cant take normal ones... Or am i just crazy?

Yes, crazy.
This rule does not exist anywhere in 8th edition.

Only casters that dont have the specific armour option in its entry.
