"Counts as" model usage (New Skaven)

original thread ↗

New Skaven models are coming out, and the ones I've seen look pretty darn good. I've always been kind of fond of Skaven in general, but I picked Ogres as my first army and I want to stick with them. Limited time and money keeps me from starting a second army, but I had an idea: could I use Skaven clanrat models as units of Gnoblar Fighters? I kind of like the mental image I have of ratmen, ogres, and gnoblar hunters marching into battle together.

Is there some obstacle I'm not realizing? Do the base sizes match up, or perhaps is there some rule I've forgotten to take into account, or fluff that'd be contradicted I'm not aware of?

Well you could always use rat Ogres as your Bulls/Guts and have a Rat Ogre theme for your Army overall.

Ratties manning the scrap-launcher etc...
WC's Achievements  36/101 = 36% completed
Ogres  7:0:0 (New Book) vs. Dwarves, Empire, HE's, VC's, WE's, WoC, and Skaven.

I may do just that. Maybe not completely, but here/there as the odd model out.

Well, now that you mention it, the ogre list would make a good base for a Clan Moulder army...

More on to what you're talking about, I have a hard time seeing skaven being compliant with ogres... if you modeled them in chains and stuff, you could just call them enslaved skaven?

Man or Astro Man? vs. Ogres
Enslaved Skaven are an idea. Others I'm toying with are temporary partnerships of convenience, or a "mercenary" band of Ogres that still do things their own way, and a few unlucky clan rats are left to "oversee" them...

either way (and both fluff ideas are good) - using the models as "counts as" is fine - even in tournaments.

I was born and bred in a briar patch!
The Tribe of Shrewed Fulg.

This tribe has particularly strong ties with Clan Moulder. It would make perfect sense for him to trade some of his rivals to the master mutators of the Skaven in exchange for some slaves or weapons. It would be a very interesting tribe to do with the mixtures of skaven and ogre models. And the conversion for Fulg himself would be a fun challenge.
you could use teh clanrats as slaves teh ogres have taken, being forced to fight in return they dont become lunch.....fluff wise this is good to as skaven have slaves

rather then a scraplaucncer you could use a warplightning cannon that is rusty and falling apart, as well as being faoulty so it only shoots out balls of lighning rather then a stream, also manned by slaves?

maybe you could have your ogres as escaped rat ogres taht are travelling teh land causing hell led by a big clever(ish) rat ogre, this could be a great chance for conversion!
I'm glad you all seem to be behind this idea! Now I just have to wait for the models to come out. (November, from what I've heard, right?)

November.
I like the idea a lot (im also a big fan of skaven, almost as much as ogres). I would do the entire theme in an ogre-skaven mutation army theme. Add a few gnoblars in between the rats, with a tail and some extra hair(to show the different stages of mutation). And the ogre-bulls, IG with tails, and generally harry (ofc.  add some real rat ogres in between to show different stages of mutation again). Beast-mum is doing a chaos themed ogre army, and one of my favorite bulls has a tail.. It looks great on it, all ogres should have one!!

With hard work, it could be an excellent idea!

Dark Elves to me just seem like emos.
This guy is really awesome looking, but I'm not sure how to use him in an Ogre Kingdoms list yet. Possibly as a Snarefinger?
