I got a 4000point battle vs HE comeing up and i need some help.
I'll be faceing alot of bows and 2 or 3 big units of swordmarster and white lions plus a few chariots.
I know my oponent and he never moves forward with any of his armys and its getting on my tits so i was thinking of going scraplauncher crazy on him. I'm going to hang back in cover or out of bow range and hit his big exspencive units with 3 scraplaunchers over and over so he is forced to come to me.... Will this work? If not what tactick do you think i should go with?
charge as fast as you can for as long as you can and dont stop for any reason

You don't have to go crazy with the ScrapLaunchers but one or two would be nice. They can be good for killing Shadow Warriors and for causing some casualties to Spearmen units. I used to have it written down somewhere but I had a really good unit matrix for HE v. OK. Look through your units there really are a lot of good matchups for OK against HE. You are going to have to go after him. Against an army that is not going to move towards you and just wants to shoot a Refused Flank tactic usually works best for me. He won't be able to get all of his shooting centered on you and you will have a solid base of Leadership to prevent panic from the shooting that does. Properly using your Gorgers will be pretty important. Also while ScrapLauncher shooting is nice make sure you have a solid amount of ManEater handguns so that you can kill off his fast cavalry that wants to slow you down. Also keep some Gnoblars in your ranks so that you can kill them up. I'm undefeated against HE with my OK. I just find that there are a lot of good match ups. Good luck against his dragon though. Those things are a pain without a lucky Harpoon from the Hunter.

I would direct the Scraplaunchers at the sword masters.
Magic missile the cavalry.
You may want to use some Leadbelchers, Trappers and Gnoblar fighters.
Melee troops IGs & Gorgers mainly.
Try to make use of the Ogres impact hits if you can.
Challenge with the Tenderiser Tyrant when you can.
Charge the RBTs with bulls etc...

Fully agree here.
Magic missile the cavalry.
Yeah great in theory, not as great when you consider the sheer amount of mages he can field, their inherited +1 to dispel and 20pt dispel scrolls...Though, if you can get a magic missle through, I fully agree to target it at the cavalry. Just make sure you deny them the armor save.
You may want to use some Leadbelchers, Trappers and Gnoblar fighters.
Fully agree here, though one can never rely on leadbelchers to actually kill something. They are a great psychology weapon, though
Melee troops IGs & Gorgers mainly.
Well, considering the Elves have double the special choices allowed, their high WS, strenght 5 at least and that RIDICULOUS ASF rule, they´ll pretty much chop all you can field in close combat, even IGs and gorgers won´t stand a chance against anything else than mere spearmen.
Try to make use of the Ogres impact hits if you can.
fully agree here, though this is rather difficult, as the elves have their basic M5, and can field lots of marchblockers we cannot deal with...
Challenge with the Tenderiser Tyrant when you can.
Just be careful about those pesky swordmaster champions bearing a 10pt magic item that lets them reroll pretty much everything, including your saves once a game. With three attacks hitting on threes and with rerolls, not even your tyrant is safe.
Charge the RBTs with bulls etc...
Well, if your bulls ever make it into charge range of the boltthrower, the elf player is doing something wrong, or has bad luck with dice...But otherwise, a nice plan. Though A gorger is better for this kind of stuff I think

I'm going to completely disagree with you on two points bob.
Magic missile the Sword Masters and just club the cavalry is the way I would go.
ScrapLauncher shooting at the Swordmasters is not likely to decline their fighting ability. You are either shooting at a unit of one rank which makes the template useless or you are going to kill a few models from the back rank and the unit is still completely viable and scary.
Crunching them works much better because you can do more serious, reliable and quantifiable damage especially when combined with some handguns.
Clubs are amazingly good against T3 2+ save knights. All I need is two units of bulls to put a real hurt on some dragon princes.

An amazingly effective strategy for High Elves against Ogres is to use their shooting and magic to pin 2 wounds onto every Ogre unit without killing anyone (or kill a model completely and then put 2 more wounds on the unit).
What this allows them to do is greatly decrease the amount of Ogre attacks in any combat by only inflicting a single wound. As an example, If he puts 2 wounds on a unit of Ironguts, when the Ironguts charge in to combat, he only has to do a single wound to kill an Irongut before he can attack, denying you 3 less attacks.
It's a vicious combined arms approach that makes the most of their Always Strikes First rule and really makes Spearelves, Greatswords, and really anything with ranks nearly unbeatable as it often chops down a third or a quarter of your attacks and hence your combat resolution. The end result is essentially that any fight without your Tyrant is a losing fight.

Well here is my reasoning for targeting knights with Magic Missiles.
S2 no AS for the Knights (normally a 2+AS) so killing Dragon Princes good cheap kills.
Sword Masters I would rather use the Scrappy or Leadbelchers.
Scrappy S3 KB and sword masters 5+ AS admittedly there may only be a few SM's under the template, but if the Sm's are in 2 ranks should still kill a few.
Leadbelchers no AS for the Sword Masters.
Gnoblars S2 worth throwing at Sword Masters, if you can get the SM's to charge the Gnoblars even better for setting up a flank charge.

Nasty, but I don't really see how this is a strategy per se, but rather a thing to keep in mind, due to the random nature of causing wounds.
That an Repeater Bolt Thrower or an archer unit shooting at an Ogre unit statistically causes two wounds is all very nice and good, but in the end, you will be aiming to cause three wounds, with the Bolt Thrower, not two. That you should be satisfied with two wounds is not really a strategy in my eyes (but then again my definition may be horribly wrong).
I am not even sure if you should be satisfied with 2 wounds (depends on how much firepower you would have to use to get the third wound). The third wound gives a panic test, which is infinitely useful.
However, I agree that removing one model from every Ogre unit makes them very vulnerable to Always Strikes First, and makes pretty much every battle an losing one.

The tactic Godhead is referring to is quite nasty.
What it means is that Ogres (units of 3) will almost always only get 2 models attacking if wounded prior to combat due to the ASF rule.
So effectively 6 attacks from the Ogres instead of 9 (unless carrying XHW or IF).

Beyond reading this; http://ogrestronghold.com/forum/index.php?topic=3884.0, I reccommend taking leadbelchers. People may talk about their chances of destroying themselves, but the really scary elf choices come in small units, with low toughness, and low armor (except for the white lions, which are my least favorite Helf choice. I think they are one of their best units) and leadies can really tear them up, even with just average rolling. Scrappies are good, but I'd use them primarily for their combat ability, not shooting. d6 S5 impact hits that go before ASF can really put down a hurting, and if the elite Helf unit only comes in 1-2 ranks you can reduce the number of attacks coming in. When the Helfs come back around to attack the scrappie it has 5 T5 wounds with a 4+ save, they aren't doing much (and any wounds they do deal won't decrease the number of attacks it has like for ogres). Then you follow up with 2 S5 attacks and 5 S2. BRR are also great, because they are nearly untouchable in combat with Helfs, and have those great impact hits and plenty of high strength attacks.

Bullgorger on IG for chariot destroying.
Good sized unit of trappers sharpstuffing dragon princesses always seems to go really well for me
Watch out for the vortex shard it's really rather annoying.
Maneaters with BoH might help with the dragon.

I find my gnobblars really shine against HE. Don't give up and play agressively, i have been losing badly and able to bounce back.
I don't see the value of taking 2 wounds off a unit instead of killing a full ogre??? 3 Ogres get a bull charge and won't be taking panic. I would be very happy if my opponents stopped at 2 wounds .

3 ogres won't get a bull charge off against a decent opponent. In fact, no amount of ogres will get the bull charge off- it's a nice bonus, but it rarely ever comes into play. A panic test is a nice thing to inflict, but there is no guarantee (and in fact, there's a good chance the ogres won't flee, or that you, the ogre player, will care). The reason to leave the ogre at 2 wounds is so that the Helf player can target a different unit and do the same, that way when the ogres charge into combat there is almost a guarantee that you will lose at least one ogre (they have ASF and are likely to cause a wound, through either a large amount of attacks or with high strength) and thus be down 3 attacks, rather than simply causing 2 wounds in combat against an untouched ogre unit and taking the full allotment of attacks back. This means the Helf player can spread the hurt around and make all of your units suck, instead of just taking one unit out.

I find the Skullmantle is pretty amazing against HE, especially if they're playing in their own deployment zone. Elves have good leadership, but if you put the Skullmantle on a Butcher that's away from the HE general, then you can cast a bunch of Braingobblers with a pretty decent chance of running some elf units off the board. Yeah, you'll fail sometimes and yeah, he'll pass some Panic tests, but seeing a unit of Swordmasters panic off the board is worth a couple turns of effort, IMHO.
<--- I will name him Tardy, since it took me over 3 months to realize that I had him.

Yep, I won a game once by panicking a large unit of Swordmasters on the same turn I flank charged my opponent's Phoenix guard with 3 Maneaters with BoH... the Swordmasters were Xfired by the maneaters and the rest is history.
