Steam-Punk Khorne Gnoblog

original thread ↗

Hey all! New member to the site, not to the game. Have browsed around before a few times and decided to start up my own Gnoblog, mainly to help motivate myself in completing a task/army.
Just a bit about me : I'm BIG on conversions, and fluff and always willing for a challenge. Have played a number of armies, last project was Chaos Dwarfs and just got bored with the army list so switched it up to Warriors (mainly so I can still use mu Hellcannon  8) ). Hopefully the new book will have some 20mm units to be able to use so all those Chaos Dwarf conversions wont be going to waste.

Super shorted fluff, till I've written it fully -

     - At the eastern base of the World Edge Mountains, a small Khornate tribe thrives. Due to a raiding Orc WAAAGH! their Lord Sko'Tor was slain in battle. The tribe itself began to fall apart and split into factions until one Aspiring Champion dared to take control of the situation. He demanded that Sko'Tor's body not be sacrificed to Khorne, but handed over tho their Chaos Dwarf neighbors in an attempt to salvage his spirit in any way.
     - After the long trek to the Chaos Dwarf's gates of Zharr-Naggrund the young Aspiring Champion had to strike a deal with the mighty Sorcerer's Council. In return for Sko'Tor to be "revived" the tribe would be in debt to the Chaos Dwarfs until 1,000,000 slaves have been brought the the great obsidian gates. Desperate to keep the tribe together, the young Champion agreed and the tribe would be forever entwined with the Chaos Dwarfs untill their sentence was served...
The List-

Daemon Prince - 380
Nurgle (not fluffy I know... but I REALLY don't want a flying frenzied Lord)

Blood Priest - 125
     (2) Scrolls

Aspiring Champion -130
Khorne, Barbed Steed, Collar of Khorne, Sheild

(5) Chosen Knights of Khorne -230

(2) Chariots of Khorne - 230

Hellcannon - 270

(17) Khorne Warriors - 295
     Halberds, Sheilds, Khorne

(18) Khorne Chosen - 400
     Great Weapon, Shield, Khorne

(10) Mauraders - 70
     Flails

(10) Mauraders - 70
     Flails

(5) Hounds - 30

(5) Hounds - 30

Total - 2260.. Needing to build this up to a 2500 list so C&C and ideas would be very much welcome  ;)

Now for some Pictures...

Hellcannon - Done

Chariot of Khorne - Wip

Daemon Prince - Wip

K-NIG-HTS - Pip

Warriors with halberds THEN Chosen of Khorne - Wip

Finally, just putting up a stunty up 'cause I like 'em  8) - Dome

C&C welcome! Along with any questions, I'll be glad to answer!
Welcome to the Stronghold Donum Agri.
And great entrance. The painting is great, and man that hellcannon is awesome. But what the heck is with all the CSM stuff? I know they have heavy ties to the chaos dwarves, but that is unabashedly 40k.

If by RAW, you mean "Reg06's Audacious Whims", then you'd be right.

I like the painting, and love the stunty conversion ;) I love the hellcannon, but am really not a fan of the base! I was wondering, on things like you daemon prince, warriors, and knights, how are you representing this steam-punk thing?

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
@ Reg06 - Thank You!! Both are WIP. The chariot isn't completely finished, nor really all that close. I still need to get one of the Hellcannon crew cast for that, hence the lack of 'em with the painted beast. The chosen are not finished either. There's no back to the atm but I'm working on getting some of the needed bitz for them from a friend that promised 'em, just needs to come in town. If you're talking about Stunty over there, alot of my converted Chaos Dwarfs have fantasy warrior's helmets, so I snagged the 40k one that looked similar and sweeter  ;)

@ just-josh - Ty very much  :), is it the hellcannon one you're not fond of? The Daemon prince is there because I had the model lying around so built him up till the real one is done  ;). Mainly it's so I don't proxy.. On the warriors I don't have too much built. I have Imperial Guard tanks (I only have 20) coming in and dozens of different wire. Just tryin to think of where to put it on the warriors, Chosen I know exactly where those tanks will go, and some will receive small smoke stacks. For the Knights, it'll be a while till the new one's come out, but right now I plan to wait for the new plastic kitz. But, my mind changes constantly so we'll see

Sorry about some of the pictures, one bulb blew out and all I had was soft light bulbs, which i didn't realize till the pictures were done. I really need to go out and get some white light bulbs, but we'll see

Anyways, I played a game with these bad boys. Maybe if I get time or the willpower I'll post up a battle report.
Yeah, the hellcannon base :) It's just not to my taste :) Doesn't mean that it's bad in any way though :D I am looking forward to your conversions mate ;)

Cool stuff :) Looking forward to see your chariot done:)
I'm talking about the defiler as a chariot, and the very CSM looking chosen. They just look much more 40k than they do steam punk.

As I said they are a WIP, not even near to being done. Also my painting style is going to tone down the futuristic style. I'm deffinately up for a challenge in my painting ability  ;)

The Chariot is a "Kolossus" from CD fluff and will have the appropriate crew to man it.

Thanks for the comments  8)
I guess I'll weigh in here as big supporter of steam punk chaos (and indeed using 40K models  to accomplish that ;)). I really like the chariot's beginnings, but it does look a little futuristic for steampunk. I'm sure you'l steam it up, from the looks of it now, I think it's missing a boiler and smoke stack, some odd pipes and a ludicrously convoluted control system of levers and pullies ;) But I look forward to seeing what you do with it. It seems a shame though that the knighs and warriors don't reflect the steampunk aspect in some way (Although I can see how you could justify this with your fluff)

thanks
corai

*** (I like my Smileys) ***

I knew the moment I saw the Temple Guard Placed down dead center that a Slann was going to join. So I planned to blast that unit with the hellcannon and tear it down in Combat res to take out the Papa Toad. I screened my Chosen and Warriors with the Mauraders and Knights with the hounds to prevent missile file and magic or from charging head on.

Turn 1-
-----The Dark gods were on my side from the begining. The Lizards were to get +1 for going first, but when you roll a 2 odds are still against you. I elected to go first wanting to get into the right combats as soon as possible. I sacrificed a unit of hounds and went as far forward to the sarus cav as possible, relying on statistics. Knights stay back as does the Daemon Prince, aiming for the counter charge. Chariots lumber their 7" forward aiming straight ahead. Mauraders still screening the real combat monsters. Magic.... I play Khorne no need for such foolish fairy dust!! The hellcannon guess a bit to short, killed one saurus and made the Temple Guard and a Saurus unit take a Terror test, but they loved their LD 9..
-----His turn one, charges the hounds , and moves saurus warriors up but keeps that Toad back.. Move the skinks and salamanders so they can shoot. his Magic Phase comes, with 13 Power Dice. I have 3 DD and 2 Scrolls.. I only worried about the spells he directed towards the Chariots as the rest were helping himself and hurting Mauraders? The 70 point units can take allll the damage they want if it means saving the bigger and badder things. No panicing, I'm set! Then comes the Shooting phase.. Shot at chariots with salamanders, but rolled a 4,5,5,6 for armor saves. Once again shooting Mauraders and hounds, so I'm happy  ;). Combat comes, i just take off my hounds w/o rolling. He persuses THE AVERAGE 10'  8) I'm thrilled because he is now less than 5" away from my Chosen Knights!

Turn 2-
-----Obviously I finish up the trap I started and Charges His Saurus cav with my Chosen Knights and Aspiring Champion. Daemon prince attempt to charge a lone Skink Priest, but escapes the beast's charge by inches. Have to charge with my chariots due to Frenzy, but hey, that was the plan. The 2 Mechanical Chariots charge one of the smaller Saurus warrior units. I move the rest up and "feed" his shooting units my Mauraders and Hounds by placing them right up in their face. Magic is for pansys... Hellcannon shoots again, takes out 5 temple guard. Knights tear the Saurus cav up, over run the AVERAGE 10".. Chariots roll snake eyes for impact hits .. But all is good in that now Chariots of khorne have 8 attackseach.  So even with the wiff on impact hits, they chase down the Saurus and have a chance to hit the Temple Guard. One of the chariots was so close to the edge of the temple guard we rolled a D6, but the Old Ones blessed him that day.. the othe was an inch short
-----His turn started with charging the lone chariot. then he failed to rally his Skink Priest as he ran off into the jungle. Then some non important moving.. Magic I fended off most, minus the few aimed at mauraders. Had to Scroll a Uranan's Thunderbolt aimed at the chariot out of combat. More shooting at Hounds/Mauraders. Combat came around and his temple Guard chose Halberds to try to take down the chariot faster and dealt 4 wounds.. Praying to the Dark Gods as I rolled, I watched the dice come up as a 5,5,6,6 ignoring the wounds. This proved VERY worthwhile as I won combat by one point

Turn 3-
-----Charged my Daemon Prince into the rear of the other 12 man saurus unit, forced to hold or be run into the chosen as an appitizer. The othe Chariot was just out of line of sight for a charge so set up for a next turn charge on the Temple Guard. Charged a unit of Skinks with 3 mauraders and 4 hounds, can't stand & shoot. Position Chosen w/ Gw to face the Temple Guard next turn and Regular Warriors for the 12 man unit/Temple Guard if the Saurus couldn't handle the Daemon Prince. I don't care to spend my time playing with unicorns or dandylions in the magic phase, I like skulls  ;) Hellcannon when on the fritz and evry magic user took a would with no save. Told ya it was good for notin pile of flowers .. Won the Temple guard by 1 again and the DP against saurus. Mauraders and hounds wiffed..
-----No charges, just moving. He finishes off a Maurader unit in magic, and I dispell hit Uranan's from damaging the lone chariot. Shooting he was out of range with javalins, in combat with blow pipes so salamanders shoot at chosen, but the 2 shots bounce off and 5 handlers are eaten. Everyone stayed in combat..

Turn 4-
-----Charge the TG with a chariot in the flank and Chosen in the Front along with Knights in the other flank . the regular warriors decided they had to join in with the Daemon Prince's fight. Magic isn't real. In the shooting phase the Hellcannon could only shoot at the salamanders and skinks, killed 3 salamanders,4 skinks and both units fled in terror. The saurus warrior unit was eaten alive. The Temple Guard had no chance. 7 impact hits at S5, 27 S5 attacks, 9 S4 attacks and 21 S6 attacks . 31 wounds, no Saurus left Slann needing snake eyes rolls box cars. Dead Slann, no ranked units lefts. It was looking interesting..
-----Even though he knew the battle was lost, he want to do as much damage as possible. The salamander unit wasn't able to rally, and the skinks failed to and fled off the board. With one Skink priest left and an engaged unit of depleting skinks, he was willing to play it out. Magic I scolled Uranan's and he failed the other. Combat had the skinks fleeing into Warriors.

Turn 5-
-----Claim my table Quarters, then declare a charge with the daemon prince on the Chicken with a Cloak of feathers.. He flees but not off the board. Go straight to shooting and roll a Misfire 6 AGAIN wounding all magic users on the field once with no saves. Killing my scroll caddy, and the frail little lizard too, proving that magic stinks!

It was a fun game for us both, he agreed he made a few mistakes by taking out the small units first and moving up  his saurus blocks, but ya learn more when you lose. At first I was positive I would be decimated in the magic phase, but was able to hold my own, even with a mere scroll caddy  ;) He learned more than me, which is always a good thing if someone learns. I only got a stronger feeling of proof in that Magic is a good for nothing ability  8) Even my magic user died for his abilities!

Proof! Combat > Magic
I'd love to have actually watched this game :D Sounds well exciting :D I know I have learnt one thing :) You are slightly adverse to magic :P

You need to get updating again.  If I finish my Dogs of War before you, that will just be silly.  Or the Skaven I just started today :P.
