i think sabretusks on there own wouldnt work as an ogre cavalry unit (why would they do anything you wanted if the hunter wasnt there to smack them)
and i dont think gnoblars riding sabretusks would work because wat sabretusk wouldnt just eat the gnoblar rider.
what about gnoblars that ride hogs/pigs? it seems like the kind of thing they would ride (I dont mean like orc boars, somthing smaller and more pig like)

I think rhinox riders are just fine for our cavalry. Gnoblars on anything besides sabretusks would start to get too close to O&G territory. I don't like the idea of gnoblar cavalry for two reasons, 1)it implies that gnoblars are useful troops, which they aren't (gnoblar cavalry is far too militaristic for the little blighters to be accepted in an ogre army), and 2)I don't think we need it in our list.

If by RAW, you mean "Reg06's Audacious Whims", then you'd be right.

Why even bother with the Gnoblars? The only reason to put them on cavalry is the humor factor.
Mv8, WS4, BS-, S5, T3, W1, I5, A2, Ld6, Sv6+, WSv-, US2. Fast Cavalry, Cause fear on charge. Can only us leadership of hunter, not tyrant, when in 12".
Cost: 24 points. Unit size 5+.
Not quite as nice as the Wild Riders from the WE list at 26 points each. But better than most of the older fast cav at 17-22 points.
i just love the idea of gnoblars riding pigs! the models would be great and i can just see them following my rhinox riders in to battle im not saying they would be good, just another unit 4 getting killed insted of your ironguts. A M7 cheap unit would add something to the ogre amry.

Just an idea:
Gnoblar Skunk Riders
The large skunks in the area are the only beings in the Mountains of Mourn that most ogres stay away from. Not only does their spray stink, but it also stings at very irritating levels and is even known to eat through boney materials. Gnoblars have found the skunks are relatively tamable.
Weapons & Armour: Spear Special Rules: Fast Cavalry, Skunk Spray, Bicker
Skunk Spray: Each skunk sprays a S2 shooting attack at a 12" range. Skunks may 2x multiple shot, at normal -1 modifier. Due to it being a natural defense, spray is treated as a thrown weapon and may always stand-and-shoot. If a unit takes a wound from the spray; that unit must immediately take an Initiative Test. If failed, the unit is -1WS and -1BS (this affect does not stack). The effects of the stink will linger until the unit chooses to forfeit their movement and shooting for a turn (while not engaged in close combat) to thoroughly clean the stink off.
I came up with the above a while ago. As with all gnoblar units, it's funny and cheap. Basically, I thought that any other animal either the ogres would eat (pigs) or....would eat the gnoblars (sabertusks). And since skunks in real life are tamable, it seems plausible to have M7 giant skunks in the Warhammer world. Plus, S3 gnoblars on the charge!

i like the idea hardyworld (good way to stop the ogres eating them) but i think the skunk rule would be better if it was just -1 to hit or -1WS in HTH combat.

I think Gnoblars that ride furry little grumpy pigs would be pretty funny. I would actually keep them at M6 though and put them on 25mm bases. Might give them the same rule as rhinox about being bad tempered. Can you imagine the little gnoblars being unwillingly carried into combat by their mounts?

yeah bad tempered is a rule i think they should have (gnobars couldnt control anything propaly) pig= M6 or 7 to keep up with your ogres. WS 2 S 2 T 3 W 1 I 2 A 1 LD 4 gnoblar with spear. Rules= fast cavalry, bicker, bad tempered, LI. no sharp stuff (to hard trying to hold on) Pionts= 11?
