The possessed villagers: A daemon blog [7/7 -08 Ideas and army list]

original thread ↗

July 5th 2008, Gnoblog started

In some northern parts of the Old world the boundries are thin. Most people who live in thin places have different customs, they pray to different gods. Sometimes these prayers are answered.

This is a gnoblog of daemons that has possessed the people in a village in the far north. One of the reasons for this is that I'm not very fond of all the daemon models that GW released, another is that I really do like modelling, converting and themed armies.

Here are some early test models and a glimpse of the feeling I want. Let me know what you think, I need your honest opinions!

Plaguebearer.

Bloodletter.

Seeker of slaanesh.

More fluff, ideas, armylist, random gibberish and conversions to come. Stay tuned.

I think it's fantastic.

What is the mount you've used for the daemonette.

All of the models ooze character so far! I'll follow this one  ;)

I personally think that they are fantastic! i would also like to know what the seekers mount is :D keep up the good work.

regards
Wayne and Garth, the gnoblars.

Everthing looks great do far.  Good job!
wonderful models! could we get a few more pictures of the plague bearer? also the pleasure seekers mount seems to be a lizardman could one with the scales shaved off.

Never kick the sleeping ogre, unless you dont care for your head.

Besides petesamd my other title is moemoe king of the catfish.
also the pleasure seekers mount seems to be a lizardman could one with the scales shaved off.

Dead on! I shaved off the scales, the lizardmen glyphs, the bone protrutions on the head and removed some of the claws then filled in the gaps with greenstuff. I might remove the the front legs and replace them with tyranid claws, not sure yet.

Thank you all! I guess I'll go for it then  :D

And some more pics of the plaguebearers as requested:

It's scratch built, dirt cheap and was painted in a few minutes. I'll post a how-to later on.

Sounds cool :D Personally, I love the new daemon minis, and find it hard to understand how anyone could not like them :P But, after seeing your models, I see that yours are a great alternative :D

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
WOW...i LOVE that idea for the daemonette mount!

It all looks very good. My only comment is that the Slannesh rider looks a bit like she was just plunked down on top of that beast. You might consider filling the gap under the models with a lump of GS for the animals back, or maybe a rudimentary saddle of sorts? Barring that you could bend her legs back a bit?

She just looks very bow legged.

Excited to see where this army goes! A great start to a new Gnoblog.

All looks cool.

I'd take off the front legs on the cold one though and if possible, the reptilian snout and instead model a tube with tongue.
Plaguebearer looks creepy, like it better than GWs.

I like everything. However, I don't think the bloodletter works. It looks like a marauder- it needs alot more work in order to look like a daemon. Do something to hide the fact that it is based on a human, like drastically changing the species.

Randroid: Indeed, the steed was much wider than I thought and that made her sort of bowlegged.. dont know if I can make it thinner without looking wierd but I'll try to pose them a little crouched and with their legs extended backwards (more like the original mounted daemonettes).

Chugger: Well, that would just make this into a lame attempt of copying the original model. I want to be different :)

Reg06: Ehm, as the title may suggest they are possessed villagers which means they are supposed to look like humans that has gone daemonic (I haven't posted all of my fluff yet so how are you supposed to know..), that's the whole idea of my army and the entire reason I choose marauders.

Ideas so far:
General (herald of Nurgle on palanquin): A marauder with only one eye and and open cloak standing on top of lots of nurglings, arms extended. A book in one hand and a scythe in the other. Maybe sores and magots crawling all over.
BSB (herald of Nurgle on palanquin): Probably another marauder with cloak and deceased look holding some sort of icon. Also standing on top of lots of nurglings.
Herald of Slaanesh: Daemonette on mount with a sword instead of claws.. Not sure how I'll make it stand out, maybe reposition the mount or something. I could go for something entirely different like a male herald, I'm open so suggestions.
Herald of Khorne: Scratch built chariot with something warlike on it, possibly based on a plastic orc with a great fiery blade.

PB's: Well, you've seen them. They are supposed to be possessed farmers.
Bloodletters: Possessed warriors as pictured.
Furies: Possibly bats from the bat swarm.
Seekers: As shown, probably with legs extended further backwards and crouched to indicate speed. Maybe some sort of reigns on the steed, can they hold reigns with claws? :)
Flesh hounds: Not sure, maybe something based on the new plastic dire wolves, suggestions?
Fiend of slaanesh: Maybe a daemonette torso that extends into a long snake coiled up on the base.
Beast of nurgle: Maggot/tentacle that opens up on the "belly" into spikes and nastyness (think The Mist)

And here is the armylist I'm considering, need some feedback on this.

CHARS
250 - Herald of Nurgle. General
- Lvl 1, Nox vapour, Slime trail, Palanquin.

325 - Herald of Nurgle. BSB
- Lvl 1, Nox vapour, Slime trail, Palanquin, Standard of sundering.

195 - Herald of Slaanesh.
- Lvl 1, Robes, Torment blade, Steed.

215 - Herald of Khorne.
- Armor of khorne, Firestorm blade, Chariot.
(985)

CORE
247 - 16 Plague bearers; FC, Seeping decay. (General goes here)
247 - 16 Plague bearers; FC, Seeping decay. (BSB goes here)
120 - 10 Bloodletters.
60 - 5 Furies.
60 - 5 Furies.
(734)

SPECIAL
210 - 6 Flesh hounds.
163 - 5 Seekers; Std, Mu, Siren standard. (Herald goes here)
(373)

RARE
55 - Fiend of slaanesh.
100 - Beast of nurgle.
(155)

(2247)
Power: 5
Dispel: 5
Models: 74

Pretty standard list I guess, using "the great wall of nurgle" to anchor the center and some fast nasty stuff to deal with enemy supporters. I don't think it's too cheesy being that I have no shooting and almost no magic. I's based mostly on what I feel like I want to play with and what I want to convert. I probably won't include any tzeentch but other than that I'm open to all sorts of suggestions.
Winter Born
I got that about the possession, but it looks to me like a converted marauder and not like a marauder converted into a bloodletter.
The list looks good. However, I don't know about the size of some of those units. A single BoN might be effective, but I'm worried it will get shot down/get CRed to death too fast for it to make a good tarpit. And with the PB's, I found that even with the regen and 5+ I was losing a good chunk of them as I crossed the battlefield. With just the M4 you might end up in combat with just one extra rank of PB's, which while tough as nails don't have that much CR.

for the seekers reigns what about so both rider and steed have a bit, for that slaaneshi feel.
just listen to that little voice that says 'do it'
I don't really like the Plaguebearer. It looks to much like a lump with a scythe.

The Daemonette rider is fabulous however.

And what are the Daemonettes supposed to be in your fluff? The housewives gone psycho? :P

Great theme you've got going there! :D

"Needs Moar Manowar"
I dig the Bloodletter and Daemonette mount (awesome idea, de scaling a cold one) but I'm afraid I agree with Manowar on the Plaguebearer, looks like someone threw some tarpaulin over a Goblin. If you after cheap (ish) PBs with a robed look, how about Flagellelants? Make em all disease-riddled and good to go.

lol!

Anyway, the converted marauder looks a liiiittle bit like an ungor as well...which is also a human morphed into something else, so a little rethink may be necessary here in my opinion.

16 is indeed an odd number o PB's. I use them myself. However Reg06 the Heralds that will be accompanying them are on palanquins and therefore take up four model slots in the unit. This gives the unit 4 full ranks effectively.
(Any other reading of how the palanquin should fit int he unit is just annoying and looks ridiculous but hey)
So he shouldn't lose that many ranks.

my 2 cents!

Got some textual evidence to support that? I *know* it's right (because to read it anyother way is just silly), but my opponent refuses to let something as foolish and pointless as common sense effect the way he RAW rules (or not, if it helps him).

You should check the discussion on "Deamonic Legion" that is going on on how a herald on say a Jugger or Palanquin affects ranks. If I'm correct RAW says that you need 5 models and not 5 base worth of width.
Now although I agree with the fact that it should be 3 models + Herald on something to make a full ranks since all the other models behind it are 5 wide, you have to admit that it's bending the rules. Especially if you look at Ogres (which we all play I presume) who are affected alot by the 5 models rank rule.

In the end there isn't any rule made by GW that supports the "Herald on something is worth 2 spaces wide" and we end up in the rule fight untill a FAQ or Errata comes up (which Deamons need by the way, just look at the problem with combining gifts and armor).

Past It's Sell By Date - Win a game using ogres vs. Tomb kings
Eat Your Greens - Win a game using ogres vs. orcs and goblins
Got some textual evidence to support that?

I know textual evidence is sparce :( which sucks. And I have read the discussion on the Daemonic legion.
The rulebook does indeed state that a rank must be 5 models wide, but the problem comes if for instance you have 4 ranks of plaguebearers, because the rulebook also states that a rank must be complete before starting a next rank...and having 5 Plaguebearers + Herald on palanquin in the first two ranks would result in this

PPHHPPP
PPHHPPP
PPPPP
PPPPP

which begs the question of should the third rank have 6 models in it to be called complete...?

i have NO idea what is right here, but I personally would play it the way that looks right and would hope that nome of my friends had a problem with it. They do need a FAQ though...
