Hi i just started out OK with a Tyrant and a Army book, but now my question is, im getting bulls soon, so how should i equip them so i dont mess up my models? Also, shud my tyrant have great weapon or 2 hand weapons?
Grokfol Elfchomper04 Jan 2006
It's really all your preference - you want them to have shields in close combat? Ironfists! You want their attacks to be Armour Piercing? Regular clubs! You just want a simple additional attack? Give them another club then! It's all up to you!
As for the Tyrant - it's the same thing! If you want extra strength, take the Great Weapon, but if you want another attack, take the additional hand weapon! It's all up to you!

As for bulls, if yu're not going to use magnets for interchangeble hands, go Iron Fist, as you could specify this as and IF, or AHW.
For your Tyrant a great weapon is probably the way to go, as most of the Magic Weapons are Great weapons...

To answer your second question, it doesn't matter which gut plate you use on your mini. Just pick the one you like the look of most

When equipting your basic ogre, it depends on the opponant, if the opponant are great at c/c go for ironfists, and everybody else, well ironfists.
The reason i say this is because an ogre which is equiped with an ogre club and ironfist, he can choose either to use it as a shield, giving you a 5+sv or as an additional weapon so giving each of your ogres 4 attacks and your champ 5. Really nice
So when in doubt, Ironfist
Also because of the ammount of attacks you could slaughter a whole unit with one charge,
Bull charges + c/c = lots of dead models.

No, it's not that, the IF is like you said an iron glove, some have spikes on, others have blades coming off them.

No, that's a Mantrap that you can use for the Champion (that's the command sprue), the Ironfist is the nasty iron glove with all the spikes ^^

Oh ok, but: so its completely WYSIWYG to use ironfist as a additional handweapon or shield? also, i noticed there are both clubs and swords on the sprue, and the profile says ogre CLUB, so would it be more "fluffy" or wysiwyg to take clubs on all^^? and another thing, should i have full command? If ido, how i equip my champion?
Grokfol Elfchomper05 Jan 2006
Well, the Ironfist rules are like this: at the start of a combat, you decide whether to use the Ironfists as additional hand weapons or shields (same for ALL MODELS in the unit). You must then go with that choice for the entire combat. The Ironfists may NOT be used as shields against ranged attacks, ie arrows, bullets etc.
AND, the Ogre Club bonus ONLY applies if you don't have any additional upgrades - so if you have an additional hand weapon, you benefit from one extra attack, but your attacks are NOT armour piercing.
And, lastly, that depends - if it's a strong hand-to-hand unit (ie, six or more models), definitely take full command. If it's a diversionary, 3-model unit, only take a Bellower (for that extra rallying bonus). As for equipping the Champion: Champions always have the same equipment as the unit they're with, only characters can have different weapons than the unit they're with. You can equip your champion with a trombone and a wedding cake for all I care, he still counts as having the same weapons as the unit. ie, he's model-wise equipped with the mantrap and a club. But if the unit he's with has Ironfists, he counts as having a Hand Weapon and an Ironfist.
Hope that helps ^^

6 bulls, command group, ironfists!
Piriripak05 Jan 2006
Ok, also, is it more fluffy&wysiwyg if i use the Club weapons on the sprue rather than the sword? Also how i equip the champion?
MisterHeavy05 Jan 2006
You can equip your champion with a trombone and a wedding cake for all I care, he still counts as having the same weapons as the unit.
lol. Fear my wedding cake of doom!
In general, 2 HWs will kill more when fighting lightly armored troops (mostly 5+ or worse, though 2HW is still marginally better vs a 4+ save). 2HW and OCs will net you the same kills vs 3+ armor, and OCs are slightly better against 2+ and 1+ armor, so the type of unit you plan to engage with the bulls can make a difference. If you plan on fighting lots of cavalry, don't bother with the extra weapons. If your main opponent is orks or skaven, then you may consider investing in another HW or IF.
More than that though, you should consider the overall purpose of the unit. I don't personally use my bulls for heavy killing. I leave that to the ironguts and rhinox riders. My bulls are there to screen, flank, and flee, so I run 'em naked with a bellower.

Ok, i seem to understand now, so if i equip them with a secondary weapon, i loose the armor piercing? Does that count for ironfists too if i use them as shields? Do i still loose my armor piercing or is that only when using it as secondary weapon? Also, where in the book does it say what ironfists does:I icant find it lol.. But if thats the case that i DONT loose my armor piercing with Iron Fist i might make em that way with ironfists.
Grokfol Elfchomper05 Jan 2006
Yes. You ONLY get armour piercing if you have ONE HAND WEAPON, even if you use Ironfists as shields some of the Ogre's attention and strength goes to blocking blows, and so he loses the strength in the club's blows that were previously armour piercing.

Ok i c, ive come to this conclusion.. giving them a second hand weapon is useless, so its between ironfist, or only club=P And btw, i wonder why are there Swords on the sprue when it says ogre CLUB=P? Anyway, so now its between ironfist or nothing as its only 1 point more and u can choose how to use it=P, Anyway, should i also take athat trapper thing u mentioned on my champ?
Grokfol Elfchomper05 Jan 2006
Give them Ironfists! ^^ They have S4, that generally at least lowers the armour save a bit... And, there are swords because GW are deluded
It doesn't matter, I think it looks good but I don't have a Champ because I have a Bruiser in my Bull unit, but if you like it, do! ^^

Note that bulls can be equipped with IF or AHD, but choose to use only the ogre club giving them armor piercing.
I would model your figures with club/sword (same difference) and an IF. That way you can always call the IF an AHW if you want in your list or use an IF. IF's, combined with light armor, can give you 4+ AS in HtH, which is great against Strength 3 troops (all three elf armies, brets [not on the charge], empire, orces and goblins. The IF and light armor really works well against high initiative armies as it can be truly detrimental to lose one ogre base before striking that turn.
T0MaHaWk05 Jan 2006
For me there only to choices when it comes to equip bulls. Fully kitted or naked. The IF with just one point more than AHW and offers a much better alternative than the AHW. For just one point you can give a 5+ AS in CC when you need it. AHW is no option, but I strongly advice to get LA when you first have invested a IF in your Bulls. Fully kitted also.
The other possibility is to give your bulls nothing. Have 3 bulls in a unit and give'm Bellower. After all 7 LD is not much, and your going to need that extra LD when you flee. A naked bull regiment are cheap (at least in the OK book) and can be a good sacrifice units i you need it. Or it can handle small units well, and act as a flanking unit. After playing some games with naked bulls I have the feeling tha naked bulls can to as much as the fully kitted one for less pts.
That of course depends on how you play your army, but I tend to use more IG's than Bulls because i find them better. The Bulls in my army act as bait and sacrifical units, while the heavier IG's and Maneaters take the real fight with Bulls as support if they aren't fleeing though^^.

GW includes sword options for the club hand because, once you pick an AHW or IF, the club becomes a Hand Weapon for all intents and purposes, so any hand weapon is equally appropiate.

A question: when you're only equipping them with a simple Ogre Club - are there any empty hands on the sprue, because I haven't seen any, or am I gonna have to convertamafy?

You have to make a hand by cutting off the AHW and make it looks natural.
BTW I have swords and clubs on my naked bulls. I don't think that anything to say. It's good enough "WYSIWYG".
Grokfol Elfchomper05 Jan 2006
What does WYSIWYG mean btw?
