Nice looking unit. But I agree that they do look plain, and this has alot to do with the lack of embellishments on the armor. There aren't any army emblems, unit markers, good luck charms, or really any sort of character on the armor.

They look awesome, but perhaps a tad 'samey' as previously mentioned. Maybe a few armour panels should be slightly different colour as unit markings or the like...just some ideas.

I think they're awesome And, I do not think that their "all-the-same" look matters, because the fluff, and story behind the models more than sets them aside from other models IMHO

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.
And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.

Or maybe add some extra wiring and gears, and small repairs and retromods to represent that these armor suits are stolen/retrobuilt. The British technology for these suits wasn't up to the Nazi standard when they came into use so it makes sense that not everything would work exactly as it should.

I've decided not to add any differant coloured armour panels or particularly overt markings as I don't think it's in keeping with the fiarly monochromatic and bland aesthetic of the WWII british army. But I am going to add a coloured gemotreic shape (probably a triangle outline) similar to British tank markings of the period. I'm not sure where though as my first thoughts were shoulder pads and kneepads, both of which remind me too much od space marines!
the universal transporter should be finished i nthe next few days
Thanks Corai

I think they look a little samey because of the lack of pouches & skin to break up the colour... that being said i dont mind the large expanses too much
i agree that shoulder would be a bit too similar to space marines but knee would probably be fine, particularly if you put it on the models left knee as most marine markings are right knee
Took me 2 weeks to realise i have a trade gnoblar, Squinky ->

photo-less update (I know, I know, I should copywright 'photo-less updates' as I make them so often!). I've finished the universal carrier and as soon as the water effects dry I'll get some pics up. I've also begun work on my large mech. I was going to paint some more infantry next but had so much fun with the last vehicle I thought I'd press ahead with the other big model in the army
Thanks corai

I finally managed to finish the universal/Bren carrier I started work on a few weeks ago. It's a bolt action mini resin carrier with a Westwind head on the drier, and a westwind crewmember who used to be loading a mortar and who is now (although it's not too clear in the photos) brandishing a crucifix to ward off all those german nasties that are bound to be chasing it around
This was my first attempt at the sponging technique and I'm pretty happy with the results. I'm not sure I'd carry the technique over to pure sci-fi models but for (pseudo) historical minis it gives a nice, drab, gritty look that I think is in keeping with the setting.
I was so impressed with the speed of the sponging technique for period vehicles that I also went ahead and painted the Hellsing pattern kitbashed mech I built a few weeks ago. It's been rebased since the last time I posted it to put it on a 100mm lipped base to match the rest of the army. I'm planning to add some more layers to the water effects and reallly take advantage of the depth available on a larger base, but I need the big guy dry o take to the club tomorrow so these will have to wait
Thanks Corai

This game is just so cool. Is there by any chance an RPG for it? Great work on the minis by the way. Your bases are really becoming as impressive as the rest of your models.

I love the new update pics I especially love the universal/bren carrier How'd you make the little crucifix in the ex-mortar crew members hand?

Not at the moment at least, although it wouldn't be too difficult to mock up from some of the existing RPG's out there

He was already holding a mortar shell so I cut that down and filed it square then added a cross bar from plasticard

Had a game of secrets on Thursday night against one of the playtesters/developers for the game. Needless to say I was somewhat hesitant of my chances going into the game. This was compounded by the fact he was playtesting a new platoon type allwing him to take german para drop troopers (like my steel troopers but with the ability to deepstrike) as his basic squads.
I had: -Dr Lazarus _Maxwell
-British Rifle platoon _Body Armour
__Command Squad ___Medic ___PIAT D
__Rifle Squad ___PIAT D
__Sniper Team
__Anti Mech Rifle Team
-British Steel Armoured Squad __2 Anti Mech Rifles
-Bren Carrier __Anti Mech Rifle ___Crewed by mech rifle team
-Heavy Mech __all the trimmings
And my opponent had, IIRC -Para Drop Platoon __Command Squad
__Para Drop Squad
__Para Drop Squad
__Para Drop Squad
__Mortar Team
-Platoon specific Sniper team
-Jet Mecha
We played the alien tech scenario from the rulebook. I didnt have much to target in the first turn, with his snipers hidden and command squad all but out of sight. My opponent got the initiative and attempted to land a mortar shell on top of the objective I was defending in my deployment zone. It missed and scattered, but to my dismay, it landed right on top of my command squad who were hiding behind a building. It killed my radio operator, private and medic outright and floored my staff sergeant, leaving only the lieutenant unscathed. Needless to say the mortar had to die.
Unfortunately as it was completely out of sight and using the radios of other models to target me I wasnt going to be able to draw a bead on it with any dedicated weapons. As there were no zombies or (at that point) mechs on the table I decided to use the bren carrier instead and powered it up the right flank with the intention of running them down in the next turn! He then opened up with one of his snipers hitting one of my steel troopers (Four Leaf actually) who lived up to his name by escaping with just a flesh wound! I passed my command check to spot him and he had to place the sniper on the table. My own hidden sniper then returned fire, getting a 6 to hit (headshot!) and killing the pesky german. Unfortunatley my other sniper met with considerably less success, achieving little more than firing his gun up in the air and revealing his location. With no other targets I raced one of my fire teams (accompanied by lazarus and Maxwell in mist form) forward to try and nab the central objective.
At the end of turn one I had scored 1 point for holding the objective in my zone and my opponent had scored zero.
Turn two brought a nasty (almost) surprise as the rest of his army arrived. The paratroopers cut a bloody swathe through my army killing most of the fire team holding my objective (although one guy remained on his feet to contest it!), damaging the main gun on my mech, killing every member of Lazarus fire team (except the good doctor) and clipping one of my steel troopers. The Jet Mecha landed and proceeded to miss Lazarus with all of its shots! Alas, the near invulnerable mist-form-maxwell was killed outright by a gout from a drop troop flamethrower.
My Bren Carrier survived a hail of fire from the mortar team itself to do a donut through their emplacement, killing one and flooring the rest. Poised to back over them next turn I moved on. Both a twin linked rocket launcher and a heavy flamer carried by some drop troopers failed to even scratch the paintwork on the drive-by-mobile! My mechs machine guns (its main gun refusing to function this turn) , both snipers and the remnants of my command squad opened up on the drop troopers who had landed near my objective. All but one either died or was grounded (unfortunately the one who was contesting the objective survived!) My Steel Troopers split their fire between drop troopers who had killed lazarus squad (packed LMGs) and the enemy mech (anti-mech rifles) managing to do little more than rip a close combat weapon off the mech. They were considerably more successful against the paras and, combined with lazarus twin pistols, managed to knock them out of contention. Lazarus made a bee-line for the central objective and managed to scrabble on top of it.
At the end of turn 2 I had 2 points and my opponent still had zero (having missed the objective in his zone with a unit of dropping paras). In turn 3, my opponent got the initiative again and proceeded to move some paras onto the objective in his zone. The same squad again failed to damage the bren carrier with dedicated anti tank fire, although a stray assault rifle shot obviously clipped a fuel line as it exploded (on the plus side, the blast took another mortar teamer with it.)
I managed to make good use of the firepower available to me and took down the rest of the paras who were contesting objectives with me. Lazarus stubbornly refused to die and picked off another para with his crazy pistol fun!
My Mech took another beating, this time loosing the use of its legs, leaving it stranded in the open. There was generally more bloodshed around the board as more toopers on both sides fell.
At the end of turn 3 we had to call the game for time. I had 4 points accrued and my opponent had only managed 1 so it was victory for the brits!
Thanks Corai

That's neat that you're tight with the game designers themselves. The match sounded crazy, well done Brits.

I had another game of secrets last night, this time against a friend's Spanish army. (technically there is no Sapnish order of battle at the moment so he was using spanishminis with the german rules, missing out some of the more nazi 'weird' stuff, restricting himself to only zombies above the basic platoon). And boy were there zombies. 50 of them actually. It was a fun game with some real highlgihts as I tried a differant list. I've got an appointment to get to now but I'll try and write up a abtrep later today
Thanks Corai
