I have been considering using a bruiser for the army general. Is the extra wound, int, attack, leadership and WS worth the 70 points?

And the option of an extra 50pts of items! And he allows the ability to field a Slaughtermaster rather than a buthcher! And extra Ld is NEVER a bad thing for us 'cause we stuggle in that department!
IMO hes worth every penny.

On paper the difference doesn't seem that great, but if you have the option take it. It really is invaluable. It's the little subtleties like that that take time to get used to with ogres. Seriously that tiny bit extra is incredibly useful!
Belch!

I think the LD itself is almost worth that much.
I'm not a Tyrant. I'm a lone Hunter.

The extra attack is also extremely important. Because of the low WS (which is also improved) higher attacks means higher wounds.

I will always go a Tyrant over a Bruiser as mentioned above the extra Leadership 9 as opposed to 8. I play 2250pt games so a Bruiser would be viable at lower points Battles.
The extra wound on the Tyrant gives him a better chance of surviving and you give away extra victory points if you lose your general.
100pts of Magical equipment means you can give him the Tenderiser aswell as protective gear. I haven't played a game with my Ogres where I haven't used the Tyrant and his Tenderiser, its an awesome weapon.

If you can take a tyrant, DO SO. I cannot stress this enough. Just the extra wound and leadership makes the tyrant upgrade worth it. The wound puts him into that almost-impossible-to-kill-in-close-combat category, and the extra pip of leadership, while it seems like it can't matter that much, makes the difference between life and death just about every single game. And then you add to the pot that a tyrant can take the Tenderiser AND protective items. The additional attack and weaponskill are nothing to scoff at either.

I agree with Reg the Ogres leadership isn't the best so Tyrant is essential.

Is a tyrant worth it? - OMG YES!!!!!!!!
IN the ogre list he's in a class of his own and able to mix it with the biggest and baddest in teh warhammer world and come out on top most, if not all, of the time.
ask about and you'll find that people very rarely have tyrants killed out under them - generally only losing them to being run down when dice go wrong. It wouldn't be totally wrong to think of them of a nice chunk of points denial!

Even though I roll horrible with my Tyrant and he typically "wiffs", I would never not take him. Last night he wiffed in 2 rounds of combat in a challenge against WarDancers. One wound caused...oh Ward Save made.
I did finally kill him and got my first Gut Maw extra wound..that was cool to have a Tyrant with 6 wounds. Tyrants rule

How interesting: 1+ Attack is 25 points, 1+ Wound is 35, 1+ Weapon Skill is around 10 I believe, and 1+ Leadership is invaluable (nah, rather around 35 I think). He gets 105 points of bonus for just 70! However, he also gets the added flexibility of being able to take 100 points of magic items.
Conclusion (as if everyone didn´t know already ): Tyrants are good!
