Servants of Decay, 2250pts of Nurgle Deamons.(Updated 7th may)

original thread ↗

Well since my ogre project is nearing the "end" (like an army is ever done, hehe) I got tempted to
start something new. Since a friend of mine got the spearhead for the new deamons I just had to go
for it, and since I am a old devotee of nurgle (with death guard and a mortal army already behind me)
the choise was made. Some might think of a mixed army of chaos powers is the way to go but not me,
I prefer to theme it in a some way...but then again I might build a khorne army after this one,
who knows.

As usual I will start with an army list. Now I know alot of people havent had the chanse to read
the book yet and might there for not know what somethings are but I will however write down names
for items/gifts so that those that have access to the book can se what I got, and of cause the
rest will once they get the book (or borrow).

One funny thing about the deamon book is that it does not mentions any restrictions for icons,
that is banners, for units and otherwise it states that the same gifts can be taken by different
characters. So in principal you can have the same icon (standard) on any number of units.

> NEW REVISED LIST FURTHER DOWN THE THREAD <

LORDS AND HEROES

Great unclean one, 620pts
Lvl 3 wizard
Trappings of nurgle
Slime trail
Pestilent Mucus

Herald of nurgle, 250pts
Lvl 1 wizard
Noxious vapors
Slime trail
Palanquin of nurgle

Herald of nurgle, 250pts
Lvl 1 wizard
Noxious vapors
Slime trail
Palanquin of nurgle

CORE

20 Plaguebearers, 295pts
FC
Icon of eternal virulence

20 Plaguebearers, 295pts
FC
Icon of eternal virulence

5 Chaos Furies, 60pts

SPECIAL

5 Nurgling bases, 175pts

RARE

3 Beast of nurgle, 300pts

So deamons armys with greater deamons become quite small, but now that you can actually customise
the big boys I feel that I got to have one.

Got an order out for the plague bearers and nurglings, the beasts are going to be scratch built since
I am not a fan of the model it self, neither the style or how it is put together (put one together for
a friend). Then I got lucky and a guy at the club said he had most of a great unclean one collecting dust
at home and that I could have it. What I got was legs, body and right arm (with the sword).

The rest will have to be built. So first I got rid of the sword since he actually have a flail these
days. After that I got to build the head and the left arm.

So to start you all of here are some WIP pictures of him:

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
So you're making the nurgle army I've got planned, except with 250 more points ... more power to ya :D

Love the GUO so far, can't wait to see more of the rotters.  Good luck, do me proud

It's looking good. Very good in fact, but the teeth are far to clean and neat for a GUO.

Agree, but it is a WIP :)
Some grinding and in the end paints should fix that...

So as I wonder what to do with the left hand I built another model, a beast of nurgle.
The reason for this build is due to one simple fact, I so hate the new beast model :)

I like the beastie!  Just ... how big is it?  That's a 40mm I'm sure, but compared to say a plaguebearer ...

Great to see a daemon Gnoblog starting up! I myself am building a pure Khorne legion and just love the new book!
Just one thing, you cannot have multiple Icons, gifts you can, but icons is a no no, so you'll have to change one of the PBs standards.
Also, you need another unit of PBs as you only have two core units at the moment. I would advise in removing one herald and splitting one 20 strong unit into two 10s, then the herald that's left joins the big unit. Furies don't count towards minimum core requirements.
Other than that, looking good!

doh, how could I miss that about furies :)

How ever there is nothing, that I found, that indicates that you can only have one of each icon
per army. How ever since I don't own the book my self yet I can't have a look atm.
Do you have a page reference for the rule?

As for the herald I think he stays since I REALY want that regeneration for as many units
as possible. That said I cant swear to it :) Gonna have to think about it...thanks for
all the comments :)

Hehe, easy mistake about furies, I find it a pain though! Would rather have two big blocks of letters than three smaller ones.
Icons, it's not mentioned in the book however it is mentioned about gifts. Either they thought it was obvious that the same rule applied to icons, or they want us to interpret it as magic standards. I would rather not have two icons than later be found cheating when a FAQ is released ;)

Send me a PM if you are interested in the book, let's just say I know a lot about it for now, "do you want to know more?" (Starship Troopers quote ;)

Cheers man!

Your army is off to a great start.  I love the sculpting, especialli the beast of nurgle.  I can't wait to see more.
The BoN is awesome, and the GUO will be awesome when you're done as well the potential is def. there...the eyes are freaky enough as it is now!

I'm looking at the book now and I still can't find any restriction on the icons thing it states:

The Battle Standard Bearer and some unit standard bearers can carry a Daemonic Icon at an additional cost, as indicated in their army list entry. A Standard Beraer may only carry a single Daemonic Icon

Not that I would take many or any of them, that makes me lean strongly towards the "dude I can def. take more than one" route.

Well I like the idea of getting more combat resolution from poison attacks so I will definitly stick with the icons unless someone finds a rule agains it icon_smile

BTW, since the list hade to be re-done and the fact I played a similar army and even tried it
this is the brand spanking new list:

LORDS AND HEROES

Great Unclean One, 600pts
LVL 2 wizard
Nurgling Infestation
Trappings of Nurgle

Herald of Nurgle, 350pts
LVL 1 wizard
Palanquin
Noxious Vapours
Slime Trail
BSB
Great Icon of Despair

Herald of Nurgle, 250pts
LVL 1 wizard
Palanquin
Noxious Vapours
Slime Trail

CORE

16 Plaguebearers, 246pts
FC, Icon of Eternal Virulence

16 Plaguebearers, 246pts
FC, Icon of Eternal Virulence

10 Plaguebearers, 120pts

8 Furies, 96pts

SPECIAL

4 Nurgling bases, 140pts

RARE

2 Beast of Nurgle, 200pts

and thats it so far, and it ends right on the mark 2250pts.

Some might object to the size of the plaguebearer units, but the two with 16 in them
will have the heralds making it a even 20. These units will also be 6 models wide.
More attacks that way in many cases and 3 ranks is not needed so far.

I played agains a nurgle deamon army with my ogres and the plaguebearer units in that army
got though the game almost unharmed (5+ ward, 4+ reg does the trick most of the time) and
the same goes the other way around when I played with them, not a single plaguebearer got
killed (thanks also to to the heralds since they get to hit before anything else and have
alot of attacks).

Nice list and excellent GUO, love the plague flail and bag of tricks :D

On your list, Icon of Despair = -2 Ld in X"?  And vapors = no ASF?

Awesome GUO and I'm impressed at how this army is coming along. Seems an awful lot of work for a fury though...they kinda suck lol - but the model you've made is really cool so that makes it ok :)

I really get inspired by your work. I have worked on a nurgle army on and off for about 15 years, and I have decided (after the new book came out) that now (soon at least) is the time for it to be finished.  like the fly. Is it scratch build?
By the way: It seems that many ogre players also have a nurgle army :)
Never trust an unpainted model!

Props on the fury conversion, when sticking non-nurgle units into a nurgle army it's always nice to see them converted to fit :D
