Well, I have seen quite few really good gnoblogs on here, and seen friend's frequently updating incredible gnoblogs; and so, a Tyrant gets to the point where he can't put off creating his own one any further! And so, here it is!!! :D :D

The first thing I suppose I should do, is try to come up with a name... I find it so hard to name Ogre Tribes; the names I come up with either sound really dumb, or just plain stupid... Yes, I realise they are both one and the same thing ;)

Anyways, I will think up a name today, and post it tonight, or tomorrow, hopefully accompanied by my first bit of fluff :D

Photos should follow in a few days, but my photo taking skills leave an awful lot to be desired!

Josh's Ogre Kingdoms Army Fluff - Part I

Just for reference, until I have had sufficient feedback from the Name poll, I will ommit the tribe's name in my fluff; till I have a suitable name, they will just be called The "Name" Tribe. I have finally decided upon a name, and thank you to all those of you who voted, and helped have an input on my tribe :D

Just South of "The Fallen City", and North-West of the realms of "The Celestial Dragon Monks", lies the not-so-ominously named, Ice Pass. At the head of this mighty ravine, lies a series of foothills, precursors to the gargantuan Mountains of Mourn. Amongst these highlands, a group of barbaric nomads have made a shanty settlement.

This eclectic bunch form a Tribe of Ogres, The Bloodgut Tribe; an amalgam of the many outcasts and misfits of the Ogre Kingdoms. Any Ogre shunned by it's kin, forced to eke an existence as an exile, and excommunicated from their tribe, can often find a home within the confines of The Bloodgut Tribe.

Nurghreg Eyegouger heads the Tribe; but, unlike practically all other Tribes, who are nought but debased, degenerate cretin, The Bloodgut Tribe are governed by a "Council", of sorts; who influence and guide the Tyrant's decisions. However, at the end of the day: "Wot Nurghreg sez, goes!"

Comments and criticism much appreciated :D :D

I chose Bloodgut for these reasons;

Ladz of the maw- Sounds Orcy

Gutmaw- sounds unoriginal

Bloodrinkers- sounds like Vampires

Bloodgut- Sounds good :)

My votes on bloodguts too... sounds cool and really easy to convey on the models by simply painting all the teeth on maw symbols red and/or adding some red warpaint maw symbols

Kinda combines the best 2 into one cool sounding name. imo

lol yes. Bloodgut!

The fluff; I like it but the beginning is a tiny bit longwinded about where you are in the world, and (obviously) it would make an easier read with the actual tribe name put in. To make it even more interesting, perhaps you should include details of a single ogre in the tribe and how he got there and what he found, or perhaps tales from Cathay of the mysterious tribe and the things they have done/accomoplished/demolished.

Hope that's helpful!

The name is OK. The fluff part is OK thus far. Will you do any converting on your models, something to make them differ from other tribes? Or it's just going to look like almost any other ogre tribe (beside having red gutplates)? Since the tyrant's name is Eyegouger, you could give him a necklace of eyeballs round his neck.
@ Nightmare: I convert practically every model in an army; even if it is as simple as a weapon swap, or extra armour. So, yes, I will be converting some of the army. As for the eyeball necklace idea, is it okay to borrow it?

Borrow it? Of course... it's not like I'm the first one ever to have come up with that idea. But I can't really say I've ever seen it done on a miniature (and I've seen loads of minis). I bet it would look cool.
Oh okay :D :D Well, I've never heard the idea before... :D So, in my mind, it's your idea ;) So, thanks for the go ahead :D

It has been absolutely ages since I last posted in here, so I thought I'd just drop a few bits of info :D

I still have no photos to present to y'all, however I have a few updates on the models front :)

I have put together, undercoated, painted, and based:

- 1 unit of 3 Ironguts, including standard
- 1 unit of 3 Bulls
- 1 unit of 3 Bulls

All done in about 1 days painting, on and off :D

And, I have on my painting station as I write this:

- 2 slavegiants; one almost finished, the other converted, and being basecoated.
- 2 rhinox riders; one almost finished, the other not even undercoated.
- 1 leadbelcher, nearly finished.
- 2 more ironguts, part done.
- 1 tyrant (acting as Bruiser), with a few areas basecoated :)
- 10 Daemonettes, not even undercoated.
- 10 Bloodletters, being undercoated.
- Skulltaker, being hand undercoated.
- 1 Herald of slaanesh, just having the last few touches done to the sculpting.
- 5 Flesh Hounds of Khorne, basecoated.

EDIT: I also have an Imperial Guard Vulture Gunship sitting on my painting station, rather alluringly :| lol!

That's about it for now, however, expect photos of my completed models by the end of the week :D

I have also decided, that instead of making an entirely seperate gnoblog, this will also act as my blog for my Daemons of Chaos army aswell :D :D

In light of which, an update on my Daemons:
- I have bought, and put together; 10 Daemonettes, 10 Bloodletters, and Skulltaker.
- I have converted a Herald of Slaanesh, carrying the Hellfire Banner, and Etherblade :D
- I really dislike the new Flesh Hounds of Khorne models, and as such, have converted my own, from LOTR Warg models :D I have 5 of them, including Karanak :D I basically just fill the holes on their back with GS, sculpted some fur, and am painting them up in deep reds :D Karanak, on the other hand, is another thing entirely :|
- I have Epidemius (bought for me by my loving girlfirend; who went all the way down to our local store, and bought it for me as a surprise :D ), and three bases of nurglings, but haven't yet put them all together

However, I do not plan to keep this solely as a Daemons only army, from modelling and painting perspectives; but for gaming purposes, I will field it as daemons

Yeah :( I do... But, I have even surprised myself at the speed that I am knocking out units at the moment :D So, if I carry on painting at the same speed, hopefully, things should be done quickly :D

Quick update, I have put together a base of nurglings (not the boring ones, but special ones I have collected from every corner of the hobby :D ), and have put together the puzzling beast that is Epidemius (to be lovingly referred to as Epi from here on in ;) )... Took a bloody lot of work. Half a box of Milliput, a tube of superglue, 23 pins, two broken drill bits, a snapped scalpel blade, and severe glue and knife wounds later, and he now stands proudly on my painting station :D :D :D

To keep us going on, at a semi-reasonable rate, until the ever elusive model photo shoot, I will post a quick update :D

Right, my Ogres have come to a bit of a standstill recently, what with the arrival of DoC and all :| But, the DoC have been steaming on wonderfully, especially after my most recent trip to my local GW, where I managed to blow £120 in under 10 minutes :shock: :D Worth it though :D Here is the recent goings on:

- All Nurgle components of my army (that I currently possess) have had custom bases sculpted (by moi :D). I chose to keep them pretty simple, and just sculpted a boggy/quagmire land surface, with popping bubbles and stuff :D
- Bought 3 more bases of nurglings. 6 bases of nurglings in total, (3 per base, 18 nurglings in total) put together, and they have been based.
- Epidemius is now based, and awaiting undercoat :D
- Karanak is finally converted, using a LOTR warg body and head, and head from an OK sabretusk :) I chose to only give him two heads, as I hate the idea of three heads :| Although the fluff is great :)
- I have bought a plastic Balrog, ready to convert him into a Bloodthirster of Khorne :D Work will begin as soon as he arrives, hopefully mid-week :D
- I have another Balrog coming at the end of the month :D And he will be converted into the Bloodthirster special character, Skarbrand.
- Bought WHFB BRB :D Learning all the basics at the moment :D
- Bought, and put together 5 Horrors of Tzeentch
- Bought 2 Bloodcrushers of Khorne, gave one to my Girlfriend (Jess :D), and put the other together. Got rushed to hospital when a small metal fragment flew off the model, and lodged itself in my eye :| Spent 3 days with an eyepatch  :pirate:
- Bought 2 The Masque models :) Gave one to my Girlfriend :) Put the other together :)
- Started painting my Herald of Slaanesh :D
- Finally, I am in the middle of converting a command group for my unit of horrors :D

That's about all for now guys and dolls :D

yep:
make bigger units:
first you want to have some space and not units standing behind eachother.
second the units benefit from the loci.
third for tzeentch: if 2 times 5 horrors are gone, you lose two levels . (from two units of 10 leaving no unit as a magic caster)
if 10 horrors are gone from a 20 horror unit, you still have a L1 unit left.

I like the tactical set up for the slaanesh units and fear the beasts of nurgle even on the screen ( love to see a picture of that, but we demand that from eachother right? pictures :D)

Wow! 12000 plus points. What size table would you need to fit that on? And how many days would it take to complete the battle.

I can just imagine running an absolute horde of Zombies against that. So 500 is points for characters, then the other 12000 pts gives me 3000 Zombies, minus a few for Banners and musicians in the units.
Hmm, 100 units of 30? or 50 units of 60?

And that many zombies huh? You'd certainly be getting the combat resolution bonuses on outnumbering, and rank bonus... But you'd probably get slaughtered :twisted: espcially with each unit of Beast of Nurgle kicking out a potential 70 hits each :D And that's just three units :D And, in legendary battles, you are allowed to run a "Monstrous Horde" of 12 Greater Daemons, and they are allowed to be a mixture :D Mwahahahaha!!!

Just a quick update today :) In a 2,000pt match last night (list to follow soon), I pitched a mixed gods DoC army, against that of my Girlfriend's Ogres... Result, I lost horrendously :| I don't know how, but the pivotal moment was the challenge between my Bloodthirster of Khorne, and her solo running Tyrant :( I was overly confident, and thought it'd be a walk in the park, but the Tyrant beat my Bloodthirster in the first round :|

Bloodthirster
Firestorm Blade (+1S, flaming attacks.)
Armour of Khorne (3+ AS)
Immortal Fury (Hatred?) (Re-rolls to hit in CC)

VS.

Tyrant
Tenderizer (+2S. Unsaved wounds become D3)
Mastodon Armour (5+ AS. Roll 2+, restored to 1 wound.)
Two sword gnoblars (2 attacks at S2, WS5)
One luck gnoblar (Re-roll 1 AS or ward save per battle)

Quick low down on how it happened...:

- I declared a flying charge with my BT, against her Tyrant. My range guessing was a bit off, and so I fell short by 5 inches... Still being totally confident that should I get charged, I'd still win the combat, I opted to go for the flying move. This left my BT exposed to a charge from her tyrant next turn, but what's the worst that could happen...? :|
- Surely enough, next turn, her tyrant charged my BT, and was in range (due to my shortfall last turn).
- She strikes first due to the charge, so 5 attacks at Strength 7. 3 hit, 2 wound.
- My armour save becomes 7+ (not possible to pass, is it?). My ward save becomes 9+ (again, not possible to pass, is it?)
- 2 unsaved wounds. Roll of D3, both end up being 3 wounds each :|
- One dead BT :(

Lucky dice rolls, or BT just didn't stand a chance?

Comments please :)

You are right about the armor save- you can't roll anything higher than a 6+, so a 7+ means no armor save. However, ward saves are not effected by strength, so your BT's ward save is always 5+, no matter what (unless the opposing character has some special rule, which tyrants don't).

Ooooh inter-forum relationships  :|

I like your 12,500 point list Josh, however, the main probelm I see with it has been mentioned, you have no large units at all. Legendary Battles, a large unit is worth it's salt. And if I had 20 Plaguebearer models I'd be never leaving home for a 2,000 point game with them.

Also, if you can bundle things into bigger units (not horrors IMO flexibility of small units to minimize the amount in a single combat and maximise targets) the heralds locus rule have much, much more effect as you know.

Also I HATE Daemon Princes using the new rules, I can't see a use for them. For forty points CHEAPER than the daemon princes you presented you could have a standard Greater Daemon...

I'd like to hear more about this battle ogres vs dameons anyway to see what went wrong good friend

Yeah, don't worry, we met loooooooooonnnnnnggggg before the forum ;) And it won't affect the way we are on the forum either :D

I am considering bunching the units together a bit more :) As you said, it makes the locus rule much more effective.

As I said, the only real reason I am taking a Daemon Prince or two, is because at 12,000pts I have the flexibility to go for a bit of variety in the army, instead of loading it to the rafters with Greater Daemons :) Sure, Daemon Princes might be shit, but what the heck :)

I plan to write up a battle rep soon :) No piccies from the game though :| And, my pictures will finally be up today :) Yayyyyy!!!

@ Jess: I am glad to hear that you are starting a gnoblog at last :) I will follow it with great interest :) And as for recording the amount of times you win against me, that is gonna be one inactive gnoblog :P

Here's a tiny bit o' fluff for my DoC army, and more specifically, my Nurgle Herald :)

Günter Von Rast was the very epitome of a Trading Merchant of the Empire. Ostentatious, and very excessive, his life was filled with gluttonous luxury.

That was until pestilence rested its hand upon Günter, and he began to succumb to Consumption. Blood ebbing from every orifice, and internal organs bloating to unnatural dimensions, his faith in the God of his land, and his prayers, were directed at much more insalubrious patrons.

Father Nurgle heard the plea, and felt a cruel parody of pity, bestowing regenerative gifts upon Von Rast. As the pestilent kindness of Nurgle began to reinvigorate Günter’s body, it was mirrored outwardly. Flesh began to rot, and hang limp from the bone, buboes formed across lacerated skin, bone began to protrude through disease-ridden cuts, and pus oozed through gaping wounds.

Whilst in the early stages, Von Rast was able to persist in his flamboyant lifestyle totally unadulterated. However, as the symptoms of plague began to become nigh on glaringly obvious, he was no longer able to indulge in his hedonistic past-times without outside interference.

With righteous zeal, of which epitomises their order, a small contingent of Warrior Priests, led by the Witch-Finder General, Marius Leiftval, stormed his Manor House. What they found, they could never have prepared for… A mortal parody of Nurgle’s very own Palace of Pestilence!

Squeaking, gibbering Nurglings perched in lost corners, shambling Plaguebearers, a mockery of the Household Servants they were. Black flies, bloated and sluggish, clung to the walls. A thick, cloying, sweet scent hung in the air.

Once they had traversed the plague-ridden halls, and fought back hordes of malignant Nurglings, they finally came unto Von Rast’s bedchambers. Casting the doors wide open, a strong odour struck them, immediately preceding the soul-shattering images of a being at the furthest point from abstract normality… Still possessing a large proportion of his former compassion, fear, and arrogance, Günter opted to flee, and made a swift exit, leaving his mindless servants to preoccupy his would-be pursuers.

Fearing nowhere to be free from persecution, he continued to flee northwards. Trees passed into mountains, mountains into icy tundra, snow-blasted plains into chaotic wastes.

Was this absolution?

Days spent wandering the Realms of Chaos; his steed having passed away not long after crossing the border; had begun to drive him to the point where sanity is nothing but a distant memory. As he slowly trudged the wastes, he began to draw all manner of daemonic manifestation, to his side, all intent upon feeding upon the stench resilient determination.

Now, wandering the Chaotic lands, a devastating horde, of gigantic proportions, treads a war-march in his footsteps...

I love the way most models look mate, especially the Bloodthirster who came out even nicer then I would expect since he's from LotR.

The only thing I could say at this time is that the pole that the Giant is holding is to thin.
I don't know if you were planning on thickening it with GS but I think you should.

@ Aza: Cheers for the compliments mate! :) I thought the BT looks rather good :) I wanted, originally, to sculpt armour on him, but my sculpting skills aren't quite up to it, and I didn't want to ruin the balrog! :D So, I left it as it is :) I think it looks quite good as it is anyway :lol:

Yes, paint is a must. Is the giant going to be green, 'cos it looks like it's been stripped at some point, and I can't quite tell. Has it? :?
Paint is an obvious :) And in my humble opinion, coming on reasonably well :D

On the topic of the giant, yes it was a darkish green, something like Catachan Green :shock: And so, I began to strip it using surgical spirit :D I do plan for it too look a very pale green though :D

I've been soaking a couple of miniatures in vinegar for over a year (metal ones). Does surgical spirit work well for stripping?
Erm, well, surgical spirit works well for stripping plastic models, as it isn't corrosive (or corrosive enough to melt the plastic of the models anyway!).... But for metal models, you should try something called thinners :D You leave the models to soak in it for a few days, and then get a toothbrush, and rub the paint off. It may take two or three soaks before it is sparkling clean, but I normally just do the one. Thinners is too corrosive for plastic models though! :)

I've heard others raving about stuff called simple green which isn't meant to give off any fumes and is safe for metal and plastic.
Yeah, it's basically turpentine (sp?), and I have heard of it, and seen it in use in Industry, but have never bothered to buy it, as it is rather expensive, especially compared to thinners.

1. standard dirt and grass bases: really good for bright coloured models to give more attention to the models.
2. lava bases: lot more work but look great if executed well.
3. don't do snow bases, they are done sooooo many times
4. rocky surface (witch cork) always looks great, but does make your models higher (though that does not influence lign of sight)
5. an all skeletal base (basically buy a box of TK warriors and use them as the basing asif skulls and bones are everywhere) takes some time to stick it to the base and if you don't have an alternative for TK warriors it might be more expensive but painting is easy and it looks awesome

Right, just a worded update today, nothing really justifies taking pictures at the moment :| :lol:

- Herald  of Slaanesh, with Etherblade and Hellfire Banner has been painted, although the skin looks awful through the lens of those mischievious devices known as "Cameras" :| lol!
- After receiving a bunch of Hell Dorado Daemon minis in a trade over on Barter Town, I received a model called Samael, and he was too reminiscient of Slaanesh himself, not to be used as a "count as" Slaanesh Daemon Prince :) He is barely taller than a regular man-sized model, and his scale/dimensions aren't different really at all, but, with Slaanesh being such a twisted parody of divine, and what-not, I thought, "what the heck?!" :lol:
- I got my "count as" Slaaneshi Daemon Prince painted up. However, the lil' bugger of a camera has made the skin look as awful, if not more so, than the skin on the Herald :| Not to worry, it isn't bad IRL :)
- I have painted 1 of 5 of my Flesh Hounds lol :) Woo! 20% done :)
- I have also got a "count as" Herald of Khorne from my Hell Dorado trade :)
- I have started doing a few sketches for plans for conversions I have for my second Slaaneshi Daemon Prince, a few fiends of Slaanesh (I hate the GW models; tongues, boobs and antlers flying everywhere :| lol!) and Kairos Fateweaver :)
- Last, but most certainly not least, I have got Ku'gath Plaguefather currently being sculpted by a commission sculpter :)

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
The guy who painted this lives near me and he wanted to show me on the net.

Now all we need is the 7th edition rule that said if the models are killed they don't get to fight and we WOULD be a broken army! lol

Ogre achievements: 41/101
Nothing much to report, and I am sorry for the lack of pictures, but just to confirm that my Forgeworld order has been placed, and due to the size of the order, will be shipped Express Delivery, 48 hour service, free of charge :)

Expecting the models by Wednesday, so hopefully should see some actual progress on them by Friday/Saturday :) You have no idea how excited I am to get to work on this army...

Well, after much waiting, and many impatient grumbles on my part... My HUGE box of resin goodies turned up yesterday! Like a giddy Japanese child with a new Pokémon release, I was overwhelmed with the prospect of so much awesomeness in one box...

In short order, I have feverishly begun assembly on the army, and made decent progress...

That's four characters, a command group and three K'daii Fireborn so far... And, much more to follow tomorrow :) there will be a noticeable dip in activity over the weekend, as I'll be viewing properties to move out :)

Latest Chaos Dwarf progress. The K'daai are finished off, and I have gotta say that a unit of 6 does like pretty mighty :)

Next up will be the rank and file, then the Magma Cannons, then the Prophet on Bale Taurus. Need some Green Stuff before I can put the Destroyer and Tamurkhan together :)

Easy, mostly dark metal, or black with red cloth bits and a wash or two. Highlight with original colours and boom boom pow. Army. They're tiny dwarf models so actually shouldn't take too long to paint! ;)

I will be giving the speed-painting a go on Friday/Saturday, to see if I can't find a good recipe, to get this army table-ready asap :) If not, I will be going the time-intensive approach :)

I am getting seriously disappointed at how hard green stuff has recently been to get hold of in my local area. I went to my LGS Friday, and then my local GW, both of whom hadn't got any available. Lame... I am rather eager to put together my Tamurkhan and my Prophet on Bale Taurus, but without something to fill the (horrendous) gaps, I can't :(

Been playtesting the K'daai in a couple of mock scenarios, and they have really put to bed my fears that they are overhyped...

In one round of combat, they output 13 Strength 5 Flaming Attacks, a further 5/6 (on a normal frontage infantry unit) automatic Strength 4 Flaming Hits and have enough Wounds and Toughness to live it out, with a 4+ Ward (increased to 2+ against Flaming). So far, they've performed reasonably well in every match up I have put them in... :)

Chaos Dwarves aside, I am tempted to build a new army, using one of the fan-mades found here...

http://warhammerarmiesproject.blogspot.co.uk/

Leaning towards Araby, Cathay or Halflings. I already own a decent sized Dogs of War army, but have put them on hold because the old Pikemen models are a nightmare, with their pikes being so flimsy... Haven't found a good alternative to replacing the pikes... :)

A friend of mine once replaced all the pike shafts with brass rod the same diameter. Just cut the pikes at the hands and drilled them out and slotted the rod through. Pike heads were then glued back on top!
Worked a treat (as long as you didn't accidentally lean over and impale yourself on them! LOL)

HG
Haha! Brilliant idea! Someone on here suggested that a few years back, but I never did find someone where sells the brass rod. Where did your friend get it? :)

Lots of places Online that do it, do you happen to know what diameter the pike shafts are?

1/32" is just under 1mm diameter and would probably be perfect, and at that price you can afford to experiment! :D

Yeah, I think they are 1.5mm :)

As an aside to Pikes, you can get 36" strips of Green stuff off ebay for about £8. There are several sellers (shops) that sell in this quantity. It should be enough to last a fair few weeks.  Generally can be sent and on your doorstep in under 2 days. Just a thought.

On the subject of metal/ brass rods; most model train shops sell this stuff in various sizes.
If that helps

A quick update, just whilst I have the time, and the serenity of mind with all the crazy sh*t that is going on at the moment...

I have been thinking a lot about my Dogs of War army recently, particularly about how neglected they have become; relegated to the darkness of under my bed. They have always been one of my longest loves in the hobby, not only being characterful, but an army with something for everyone. I guess the reason they were left to fall into obscurity is that the pikes on the pikemen (the mainstay of the army) were an absolute nightmare to do anything with... They bent in a soft breeze, and were always being put out of shape. Not so bad when they are bare metal, but when you have spent hours lavishing paint on them, it would be infuriating...

Well, it was obvious to replace the pikes with brass rod of some sort, but hobby stores are few and far between where I live, so I let my laziness take over, and other projects became a priority. That is, until I found these online...

http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/northstar/northstar-accessories/wire-spears-and-pikes/prod_11309.html

£4.50 for 40 of them! A total bargain, that I couldn't pass up... So, I will be picking up two lots, and hopefully work will start on them soon. Also, I'll be picking up some green stuff and some more super glue tonight, so I can finally press on with those pesky Chaos Dwarves :)

It is an absolute nightmare, because they are from a time when GW used soft metal to make their models. So, literally the slightest knock and the pikes bent out of shape. Too much reshaping and they became brittle. Honestly, a total pain. Unfortunately, they didn't have of the pikes in stock, so will hopefully order them online instead.

Sorry to hear that not everything is as it should be in life in the real world. Hope you're ok buddy! Keep smiling! :)

Another shameless plug for my Blogger blog, with a few new updates, including a review of Bioshock: Infinite, a review of Scrubs and a look at the 5 things I am most looking forward to in the next 8 months.

http://transmissionfailedagain.blogspot.co.uk/

In other news, I managed to buy myself a copy of the Star Wars X-Wing game, and will probably be modding the X-Wing that comes in the box. Maybe just a repaint, haven't completely decided yet.

Also, I finally found the motivation to press on with the Chaos Dwarf army, and assembled the K'daai Destroyer (Fire Elemental). It was awful to put together, and remarkably fiddly for a big model. Nonetheless, with Gavin and Stacey running in the background, it was a pleasant 8 and a bit hours nonetheless... Pics hopefully soon :)

My K'daai Destroyer in all its glory. I shortened the spear and left one of the lower components out to make it appear less like a staff and more like a weapon of total potency. I was originally going to modify the model a little, to make it less like the stock, and more like the Destroyer fluff, but I actually quite like the look :)

Thank you kindly Chris :) I can't say how happy I am to have been given the honour of representing the Guard... As for the finances of changing projects regularly... Sure, I've been a little remiss in updating this of late, but that is mostly because I have done nothing hobby-related to update you on... I can safely say that's changed, having spent two days (yes, two whole days) building Tamurkhan and his Toad Dragon. Honestly, it is a beauty, and one of those models you are truly blessed to own. It was a bit of a beast to put together, and used half a bottle of super glue and 7 inches of green stuff, but it was totally worth it. My only grievance was the lack of a base supplied, but he is now built, based and undercoated, ready for some base colours later this week :)

Finally made a start on my Dystopian Legions, Federated States of America section. They will be converted and painted up to be a BioShock: Infinite based Necromunda gang... Three members done so far :)

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
Josh, I was just wondering (as FW don't actually say) is the Tamurkhan model aloft the Toad Dragon the maggot lord in Chaos warrior form or is it supposed to be in the Ogre Tyrant body? I only ask because I was toying with buying this model but changing Tamurkahn slightly. How is this model comparably to an Ogre tyrant?
If this is FW vision of Tamurkhan as an ogre tyrant then it is a bit lacklustre, and I may get it and "re-work" him. If not, then it just needs some "Ogre love" to make him come alive.
What are your thoughts?
G_H
I'm fairly certain (from the artwork) that it's meant to be the tyrant version, but due to the model's special rules (taking over a new host body) I think it could represent either. I believe it's the only weak part of the model as the toad dragon is pure awesomeness! I look forward to seeing how JJ progresses with such a mahoosive project! ;)

I have to disagree with you both... Like so many things, the photos in the FW website don't do the model justice, but Tamurkhan is every bit as good as the Toad Dragon. I think he's been designed to be ableb to represent either host, which is a nice touch :)

I would say, that the model carries way too big a price tag for you to be unimpressed by any part of it...

I will get started on painting it ASAP. I'm away visiting a friend at Uni, so am a little too worse for ware :)

Hey don't get me wrong, it is really hard to see (both from FW web site and available pictures) how detailed or what size Tamurkhan is. As you paint him JJ, could you bung him next to a Bull for a bit of size comparison.  The model looks awesome (toad dragon) I was just a bit dubious as to the Tamurkhan bit of the model, but you have it and I don't......so if you say it's the business then I will assume that it is dude! I trust in your opinion.  :)
Now, parties or Uni visits aside, lets see some brush love on Tamurkhan and Bubebolos and see some colour on this putrid lord of decay.  ;)
Sadly been away from Fantasy in my latest hobby dalliances, having bought this guy at the weekend, I had to put him together today... I decided to cut down on extras and frills, streamlining him as much as possible. Not thought up a name yet, but his back story is a rogue Tau, turned bounty hunter, joining the Corinthian Liberation Crusade on the tail of a mark :)

Also made a start to my HElf army, bought the AB and a Loremaster, who is already put together now :)

Well, doesn't time fly by... I swear it was only a week or so ago since I last updated this. Lo! It was almost two months back now... Shameful  :oops:

Anyway, unsurprisingly a lot has changed in the last 7 weeks, so I will just give you a quick recap here, before hopefully putting up some hobby stuff this weekend!

- Capitalising on the high I felt from getting the first model for my High Elf army, and putting him together, I actually went out the following week, and bought the full 2,500 points to go with him, in one fell swoop. I could almost hear my wallet crying!  :cry: Have put the two Phoenixes together, and one of the Skycutter Chariots, and will push on with the infantry asap! I'll post the list in another post after this one.

- Already working towards buying my next army. I bought the Lizardmen Army Book on release day, and immediately set to playing around with a DinoMash list, which I am now quite happy with. I am hoping to get down to GW and pick up all the models I need for that one, which should be some point inside the next month.

- In typical Josh fashion, I got bored of the Night/Forest Goblins for now, and have moved onto my much-dejected Imperial Guard army. At the moment, I am content with creating the bases for the 400-odd models I have, which will be a simple cityscape theme.

- Getting all the components together to start my addition to the Stronghold Legacy Army Project, which along with the standard Bull, will be a Maneater modeled after yours truly! :)

That's pretty much where I stand at the moment, in terms of hobby stuff. Sadly, real life stuff (new job, new post as an official game reviewer, new social life etc) has become a little bit of a drain on my time, directly affecting the amount of time I can afford to spend on hobby. With a week off just around the corner, hopefully I can make a small change to that :)

As promised above, here is the list for the High Elves, which tallies to just under 2,500 points. I have all the models for this list, and a couple more besides, to offer a little flexibility should I ever need it... 2 Anointed of Asuryan, 1 Lothern Sea Helm, 1 Battle Standard Bearer, 2 Mages etc.

* Loremaster of Hoeth; Book of Hoeth, Talisman of Preservation

* Mage; High Magic, Level 2, Dispel Scroll

* 25 Archers; Hawkeye, Musician

* 40 Lothern Sea Guard; Musician, Sea Master, Standard Bearer

* Lothern Skycutter Chariot; Eagle Eye Bolt Thrower

* Lothern Skycutter Chariot; Eagle Eye Bolt Thrower

* 40 Phoenix Guard; Keeper of the Flame, Musician, Standard Bearer

* Flamespyre Phoenix

* Flamespyre Phoenix

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The Lizardman list I am toying with, is a lot more rough, as I don't have the book to hand, so the points are rough, but it gives you the general idea for what I am aiming for :)

Old Blood on Carnosaur; Blade of Realities, Shield, Light Armour

OR

Slann Mage Priest; 4 Disciplines

Skink Chief on Ripperdactyl

Skink Chief on Ripperdactyl

55 Saurus Warriors; Spears, Full Command

3 Ripperdactyl Riders

3 Ripperdactyl Riders

3 Ripperdactyl Riders

OR

Bastiladon with Shooty Gem of Death instead of one unit of Ripperdactyl Riders

Troglodon

Troglodon

Whatcha think? :)

It's been a very busy Bank Holiday weekend... Glad to have found time for all the things I've been meaning to do, like family time, an "Alien" marathon and finishing "The Last of Us" on Survival mode. But, best of all, I managed to do a load of hobby stuff :)

Finally got round to undercoating Valkia, ready for some paint next weekend!

Got Harley Quinn cleaned up, put together and undercoated. Gonna paint her up next weekend following the Arkham City style...

Dug out the Vostroyans to get them finished, so based this guy and undercoated him. These guys are beautiful models!

Painted up my second Flamespyre for my double-Phoenix High Elf list. This guy took even less time than his buddy next to him. Just under 2 hours :)

Bought this Gorgon HAPC for a bargain £25, due to the extremely poor paint job and sloppy assembly. A soak in bleach, and some careful cleaning, and its starting to get to a stage where I will be happy to undercoat it...

A half decent picture of the base colours for my Chaos Dwarves. Developed a real nice method for painting silver that I'm using across the whole force!

For now,

Been planning a Battle Standard Bearer for my Chaos Dwarf army, for some time now, and have even had a solid concept in mind since the army's humble beginnings as little more than an idea on a scrap of paper...

The image of a Bull Centaur hauling the army's Standard ahead of a host of stout, grim Chaos Dwarves just seems too cool to pass up. Unfortunately, Forgeworld saw fit to pass up on the opportunity to allow us hobbyists that awesome modelling opportunity, and therefore the Bull Centaur cannot be taken as a BSB. Oh well, I like the idea, battle legal or not.

I got most of the components together, but had been missing a couple of the more vital elements, and as a result the project had been left on the back burner. For some reason, that is beyond my ability to explain, I felt compelled to press on with the conversion earlier when I actually sat down to get some painting done on my two Troglodons sitting on my desk... Fruit of this afternoon's labours below;

Okay, so this is what I have settled on for the concept colour scheme for my mid-Heresy Emperor's Children Space Marine "army".

As you can see, I have gone for the more traditional pink of post-Heresy Emperor's Children, with Black contrasting. I had originally liked the "Imperial" purple of their Great Crusade days, but wasn't too keen on painting that much purple (a colour I have always found myself being a little picky over it's finish), and figured they'd probably be pretty quick in ditching their pro-Emperor garb for something a little more Slaaneshi.

Have also been giving the army's fleshing out a lot of thought. At present it stands at one Legion Praetor, five Phoenix Guard Terminators, five Palantine Blades, five Kakophoni Heavy Weapons, five Tartarus Pattern Terminators, and a Dreadnought. Not really wanting to expand this that much beyond the 20-odd marines it already is, but am considering adding a squad of three Centurions to it (Yeah, yeah... Boo! Hiss! I get it...), heavily converted to carry the sonic weaponry of Noise Marines :)

Hopefully gonna get this lot put together asap, then buy the Centurions, and have it all painted by Christmas (time frame reliant on hobby concentration not being stolen away before then!) :)

For now, ciao!

Hi all,

Okay, so I spent most of my day of yesterday (once the Virgin Media installation guy had left!) building the Emperor's Children Kakophoni set I picked up at Gamesday. They were one of the worst kits I have ever worked with, due to fragility of the weapon cabling and the level of detail, not to mention Forgeworld's casting wasn't up to their usual level of quality. That said, once they were put together, they really are something special. Easily one of the nicest Heresy kits they've put out yet! :)

I haven't taken any photos recently, due to working on stuff so not having anything to actually photograph yet. Hopefully will have the Children put together over the next few days, so will do a group photo shoot soon! :)

In the interim, I figured I would compile a list of open/current/planned projects that I have got on the boil or plans for. If for no other reason, than for my own reference at a later date;

- Emperor's Children mid-Heresy army; small force, roughly 30 models tops. Pretty much fully purchased, with the exception of 3 Centurions. Colour scheme is figured out, will aim to be fully painted by Christmas.
- Chaos Dwarves; entire army has been purchased, with optional extras should I wish to switch the list up a little. Colour scheme is deep purple, black and mirror-shine silver. All but the infantry is built, but progress has been halted due to lack of motivation.
- Dogs of War; bought the army years ago, pretty much every unit in the army book, up to 30-strong in each unit. Almost entirely unbuilt, and no colour scheme is in place yet. Pretty much no motivation for this project until I find somewhere that sells suitable metal rods to replace the pikes across the whole army...
- Pirates of Sartosa; got two models for this army (a Lord choice and a Rare choice), but wanna put together a 2,500 point army list to work from. The rules are really lovely, and think they could be a fun army to play with. Have planned out the basing and colour scheme for this force; white and blue maritime colour scheme, with decked bases...
- Night/Forest Goblins; Got most of the models for this army, although may need to buy one or two more characters, a few more Spider Riders and definitely need the dual Arachnaroks. Colour scheme is pretty much prescribed in that they are green, but will be going with a black/purple cloak and usual Forest Goblin colours. Basing will be forest floor with heap loads of cobwebs and the like.
- Vampire Counts; this one is tricky, in so much as I have almost all of the main stuff, but missing almost all of the Core. Colour scheme is the Red and Purple of Sylvania, with swampy/quagmire basing. Need to get the rest of this lot before I can even be half-motivated to start on it proper.
- Empire; Empire were one of my first loves in Fantasy, and I have owned several iterations of the army, but never really had one sizeable enough to say I was totally happy with. The theme is the inverse of my Vampire Counts, basically the standing army of Sylvania before the days of Vlad. Same colours, same basing! Just need to get the models now. Have probably 1000pts of them sitting around in various stages of construction, but would ideally be looking to get it to around the 6K mark.
- Skaven; I have been collecting Skaven since the laast Army Book released, but only add to them as and when I came across a bargain to hard to refuse. I don't have much in mind in terms of where I want to take this army, and the colour scheme. I have had a theme since day one however; the army of Clan Mors, fighting in the depths of Karak Eight Peaks.
- Daemons; upon their release back in '08, these guys became on obsession for me. They were all I played for the best part of 2 years, and all I built and painted. The project slowly fizzled out as they lost their way in the gaming scene, and I had no real motivation to press on in terms of having no theme to adhere to. Then, about a year ago, I developed a speed painting technique for anything and everything Nurgle, and began to press on with them. They took a back seat with new projects coming along, but will pick them back up just after Christmas most likely.
- High Elves; these were a fairly new project, coming about just before the release of their 8th Ed book. I decided I needed a new gaming army for 8th Ed, that would sit well beside my "power gaming" Chaos Dwarf army, and these guys fit the bill in terms of balance and fun. The theme is pretty standard for High Elves; protecting one of the Gates in Ulthuan. Colour scheme will be Crimson and White, with muddy field bases. The 2,500pt dual-Phoenix army list can be found earlier in the blog!
- Warriors; the rare occurence where I love the fluff and gaming style of the army. I have been adding to this army piecemeal since the 7th Ed release, but am still a long way off putting it together. Torn as to what sort of army I wanna run; all cavalry, all Troll or a mixed list. No theme, and not sure on bases yet either.
- Ogres; I have collected Ogres since their Q4 release in 2004, and have always had a soft spot for the fat bastards. I once got a very good deal from a friend on here, where I came by the bulk of my army, already quite well painted. I was rather taken with the outlandish colour scheme (can be seen very early in the Gnoblog), but have since had a total change of heart, and the stripping of the paint job is a herculean task. Will give these guys the back burner until I find the motivation to carry on. Will put together all the new kits I have bought since, and will test out a new colour scheme on them, just as a prototype for when I fix the old models.
- Imperial Guard; also known as the "Corinthian Liberation Crusade", this army has been in the works for almost a decade now. I have collected it over the years, with a squad here and a squad there. It is an Apocalypse army, which means a real mix of models; mostly Imperial Guard, but with Space Marines, Eldar, Tau and Inquistion thrown in for good measure. The theme is a destroyed cityscape, so bases to match. The colour scheme will follow the traditional scheme for each squad.

Other stuff that could be a project, but I haven't put enough thought into yet...

- Elves of Rivendell; Never been a huge fan of the LotR game, but love some of the models, and always get a fresh twang of hobby need whenever I watch the films. Having watched the death of Haldir in the Two Towers this weekend just gone, I have a fresh desire to put together a High Elf army, but maybe basing and building it in a WHFB style.
- Necromunda; I have always been a huge fan of the game, and thought it a terrible shame when it was finally discontinued earlier this year. For a long time now I have wanted to put together a number of gangs - namely Van Saar, Redemptionist, Ratskin Renegades and Enforcers (Arbites), Tau Renegades - but have been deterred by the cost of such an endeavour. This has only worsened with the ceasing of production, so this is indefinitely relegated to the backburner...

That'll do for now, so will stop rambling :)

Sounds like you'll be keeping yourself busy for the foreseeable future! Good luck on such an epic endeavour.

I know what you mean about Necromunda- I've always been a huge fan of Mordheim, and felt the same way when that lost official backing; the fan community is usually very capable of keeping things interesting, and helps me to maintain an interest, so perhaps there's something similar for Necromunda?

I have to say that since Mordheim was discontinued it's always been more interesting to me to find and use unusual/ alternative models for it, so that I can customise each warband to it's full fluffy potential. If you can't create gangs based on the original metal/ plastic models, I'm sure there are plenty of good Imperial Guard kits and kitbashes you could use to create a lot of flavour for a much lower price :)

Ha! Cheers buddy, it certainly manages to keep me entertained and busy :) Just need to start making noticeable headway with it!

Yeah, I could convert a lot of it up. Some will be easy enough (Tau Renegades as an example), but others will be a little tricky. The Specialist Games as a whole have taken a massive hit in popularity since GW decided to drop them though, which is a big decider on whether it would be worth it. No point if I can't play :)

Okay, I knew of these guys a few months back, but never really stopped to look at their range in any level of detail. I simply knew of the female empowerment vibe they were being praised for, and hats off to them, because they range has gathered a huge following. This morning, whilst browsing Warseer, I saw a guy who was buying heavily into the range, so decided to do some research.

I cannot tell you how impressed I am with the quality and level of detail of these sculpts, and they have inspired in me to create as much of an Imperial Guard army out of them as I possibly can; or at the very least add a huge female contingent to my existing Guard force :)

They even make some really beautiful female Fantasy models, which wouldn't look out of place in an Empire army... Shame my is very heavily themed around a male heirarchy, but still might get them just for painting;

Gonna spend as much of my money on these models, as soon as they become available, and I have the funds to do so! :)

Okay, I've not done much hobby of late, owing to a mixture of immense workload and hours, sickness and general hobby tedium.

That said, I did manage to get a little painting done today...

Base colours done on the Troglodon.  Calling him the "Pale Horror", hence the muted, washed out colouring. I quite like it :)

Finally put some paint on Harley, but it's gonna take a while; she's so tiny, the detail is practically microscopic :|

JJ I have been "away for a bit" with my head buried in a mountain of 40k orks, but now I am back I was wondering if you ever put any paint on Tamurkhan and his toady steed? As you may/ may not remember I was also starting a CD army and was using your progress for inspiration....which is why all mine is unbuilt and still in the bags/ boxes!  :D

Anyway, I have another question; where does the book for the pirates of Sartosa come from? I have looked out for this book, but never heard of them as an army....which got me to thinking:

If this army is somehow a made-up (non official) army, then are you in a club that will let you play with this army? Do you intend to build the "pirates.." as a playable army or just a paint project? Are there more of these unofficial armies, and if so, where can I find info about them? Oh and lastly, is this the only army of this type you have (thought of..."2 models does not an army make") built?

So about all the questions...but I am intrigued by the idea of building an army that you may never be able to play.
G_H
Whoa, a lot of questions to digest there... :)

1. I got some base colours on Tamurkhan himself, but none of the Toad. I am hoping to get an airbrush soon, which should make that task a lot easier and more enjoyable.
2. It's from a site called the Warhammer Armies Project. The guys there have produced a whole range of fan - made army books for those races mentioned in the fluff but never realised by GW. Google them, and check the site out; well worth doing! :)
3. My friends will play any rules, official or fan-made, and my club are the same, but require notice so that they may review and digest the rules, so it's all good. And the beauty of the Pirates of Sartosa army is that it can easily be made to play as a "counts as" Empire army.
4. I have a Cathay army, the makings of a Halfling army and a few other bits lying around :)

Went into work today, feeling sorry for myself; got sent home sick 10 minutes later. I dosed myself up on flu pills, and have since been painting :D Nothing major achieved in terms of progress, but loads of little things done :)

Group shot of the boys... These are the last 6 to get done to finish the unit. Just finishing details need tidying up :)

Decided on this as the metal colour for my Troglodon. Will lighten it up a bit, but like the rusty, dull look :)

Base colours getting there on my Skaven Warlord. Need to go and grab a "foundation" white/cream colour, to make more progress on this guy. Happy with where he's at though...

Lastly, made some progress on this little guy, mostly cause I fancied painting green...

My luck, I'd be so drowzy from pilks my models will scare kids on my block away for Halloween!  :lol:
Anyway, very nice painting on your blog there! Very crisp and clean!

While you no doubt will do them justice, pink SM are just wrong in all possibles ways.
My hood is my castle...
I used to feel the exact same about them matey. Then, one day it just all changed :) I appreciate the compliment though buddy! :)

I know I've been awfully remiss in updating this recently, but between long work hours and other nerdery, I haven't had the time or topics to update on... Till now :)

Needed to treat myself last weekend, and couldn't decide on which. So picked up loads of things I've been after for a while... In case you were wondering, that grey thing is a Qi wireless charger for the Note 3 :)

I've got a new work space at home, in the spare room, which has already had a profound impact on my inclination towards hobby progress...

Yes... More (different?) Chaos Space Marines. This time, Black Legion. I know, I can't help myself...

Picked these little guys up cheap on eBay. Gonna fix the paint job, then capitalise on the saleability of Squats :) Help fund a new project; partially at least!

Another post, another project... This time back to my Daemons, as I add my third Exalted Chariot :|

Lastly, there was realistically only so long I could resist the temptation of adding some of these behemoths to my Emperor's Children... Got a set of 3 of them to add; starting with Sergeant Hesh (extra geek points if you know the name reference!)

Well, another adrenaline fuelled week in recruitment ahead, with the weekend of the year to follow, so may be absent for a week or so :)

WARNING! Picture heavy post incoming... I've been on a real hobby binge ever since Christmas, and so I have a lot of photos of where I stand on some of the myriad projects I have on-going. Without too much preamble, I'll dive straight into each picture, and a little explanation!

Some of the more long-standing readers amongst you, may remember me mentioning my Dogs of War on several occasions. The project kinda ground to a halt bercause the mainstay of the army, pikemen, suffer from the integrity of the soft metal they are made from, and their pikes are forever being bent out of shape. Which is a real killer when you've painted them to excruciatingly high standards, only for it to flake off when the pikes bend (or worse, break!)... Well, I had long planned to replace the pikes with brass rod, but it wasn't until recently I managed to pick up some tailor-made ones for reasonably cheap from my local indie hobby store...

So, immediately set to work on the first unit, The Alcatani Fellowship, and am cranking out 5 of them every night after work. This is the unit so far, and a comparison shot of the old pikes against the new ones....

Also starting a new project; a voodoo-bayou-themed Gatormen Hordes army. Which is quite exciting for me really, as I love these models, and the theme is something I've long wanted to do... Just put them together so far;

This mode in particular, Snapjaw, was a total beast to put together, owing to the weight of the metal and the joining points on the model... But, he is a very nice model, and I am looking forward to painting him up!

Picked up the dual-Arachnarok for my Night/Forest Goblin army. Not quite sure how they'll pan out, but I like a theme, so I am gonna stick with them. Very nice models to put together too as it goes :)

Finally got round to putting some paint on Bubelos, the Toad Dragon. I know some of you have been bugging me for a while to get this done, so I am glad to say I am making good progress. Going for a crocadilian style on him, hence the green. A lot more work to be done, but happy with it so far!

Also managed to make some more headway on getting Tamurkhan sorted. Nothing major again, just base coats mainly;

And did some more work on the base for him; pretty much just darkened the earth a bit more, added some snow flock, and a few patches of grass. Nothing fancy;

Another project, I have managed to get myself rather heavily involved in Malifaux recently; picking up Gremlin, Viktoria, Ten Thunders, Resurrectionist and Guild crews... So far, I've only put together the Death Marshals I picked up, but I plan on sinking some serious time into these over the coming weeks;

A random photo of my second hobby spending spree for this month;

Finally started work on the project I have been most excited for in a very long time; my Emperor's Children, during the break out of the Heresy. I had originally planned on going for a pink, but I have instead opted for a rich purple. At first it was a bit too deep for my liking, but now it has grown on me;

Also been working on my Orks, just for something fun to convert and the freedom of it all;

Sorry for the pic heavy post, but I've been on a hobby buzz recently and wanted to get this blog up to date with it all. Also, ignore the shoddy backgrounds in the photos; I'm not much of a photographer, and kinda take them on the fly :)

More painting done this weekend, which primarily resulted in me finishing my first ever character model... Have had this guy since his release, pretty much in a base coat status, so finally decided to remedy that.

Managed to get a few other bits done - namely the metallics on a Skaven warlord, the base coat on a Crypt Horror and some base colours on my Valkia conversion -  but nothing worthy of photos.

Nice work with the Chaos character. This model is a very popular sculpt as I think I have seen a thousand incarnations of it....yet surprisingly I don't have one myself. Allot of the efforts are not painted as well as this one, so good work mate.
G_H
It is an enduringly popular sculpt, but I guess for so many reasons. For me, it is how well it captures the very essence of corruption, decay and corpulent being.

Thanks for the compliment though mate, it is very much appreciated! The work that went into him seems to have paid off :) Just need to maintain momentum and finish my next project :)

Bored this afternoon, at work, and wanted to do something vaguely hobby related so I began plotting out more ideas for my mid-Heresy Space Marine project. Namely, I am going to be now doing a split Emperor's Children/Death Guard army, adding Grave Wardens, Death Shrouds and Typhon.

That lead me onto the below, when I decided that the army was imbalanced and it needed more on the Death Guard contingent. I thought that these guys would need very little by way of modification to become good "Nurgle" Terminators;

Excuse the truly awful Paint skills, but you get the jist! I will be adding Scythes and guns; not sure what yet :)

Another hobby-heavy Sunday, with loads of projects getting some attention, in the constant chaos that is my hobby butterfly...

Got a little bit of purple on my Emperor's Children Dreadnought;

Also got some more work done on the first Terminator, mostly metallics and small details. Last thing to do is block in the white shoulder pads;

I started my Empire army at the time of their 6th Edition army book, and immediately had a theme and colour scheme in mind. I tried the colour scheme out back then, but honestly my painting skill wasn't up to it. This is my first attempt since then, and so far I like where it's going but it is hard getting hard edges and clean colours;

Some of my favourite plastic models ever, and really opened my eyes to the quality of Wyrd's plastic range. Just had to get some paint on my Death Marshals, starting with this one. The base coat for all browns are done;

Been WiP for way too long, but made good progress on it tonight thanks to having masses of brown paint left over...

Finished unit of Plaguebearers, which I really love when ranked up. They just look amazing. Eventually need to get these guys up to 60-strong...

This guy has been a work in progress for like three years, but have just never been quite happy with him, so never had the motivation to carry on. Finished him today, and quite happy. The skin tone I wish I could alter to mirror the Plaguebearers, but alas...

Did you sculpt that GUO yourself? I see a few resemblances to other models but I definitely don't recognize the model itself
It's actually a sculpt I got from a friend, who was an indie sculptor (resin stuff mostly) for about 5 years. The GUO was a limited run of 250 casts, and I grabbed one cause I liked the detail on the back of the model (boils, exposed spine, open wounds etc)... :)

How the hell do you work on so many projects at same time? When ever I have more than three things near my painting table I just drop dead :roll:
Ha! You're not the first person to have said that... Erm, in honesty it is the number and variety of projects that keeps me going. I used to get distracted if I had too many things on the go at once, and I would lose motivation. Then, I just learnt to use the distraction as a good thing; a change is as good as a rest :) I take a break from one project, move on to another and I find myself refreshed :)

Not much of an update, but hopefully will have a more structured, more in-depth one this weekend!! :)

I have an airbrush presently winging it's way to me; replete with compressor and gravity-fed chamber. I am hoping that once I get the basics nailed with this, it will not only speed up painting models like the Toad Dragon, the Gorgon APC and St. Gabriel's Fury (Baneblade for you young uns!), but it will massively help in getting the fundamental colours down for armies - looking at you Space Marines!

I am spending a lot of time planning my Tomb Kings army at the moment. Looking at one of two themes;

- Mixed Tomb Kings and Necrons army, the dead and their star-faring "Gods", drawing inspiration from Wildcard's blog below;
http://www.ogrestronghold.com/forum/index.php?topic=6214.0

- Tomb Kings army with mixed living and dead models

I have put together a test model for some "Royal Guard" for the first theme, which I will hopefully load pictures of later :)

The TK army sounds interesting; I look forward to seeing some of the models to get a full vision of how this project will pan out.

I am assured by friends that are better painters than me; an airbrush reduces the amount of work by half the time and gives amazing effects once you have mastered the basics.

I can't afford one (well, can't afford to get a new set of paints and the periphery stuff you need to go with it) so I doubt I will invest without a lottery win  :(

Mind you, knowing how fast you paint anyway...do you really need to speed up at all? At this rate you will have painted 500 Night Goblins before breakfast! (and chucked in 4 or 5 units of Skaven Clanrats just for fun!)

glad to hear that we may (one day) see the unveiling of Tamurkhan and his "ride" with a full compliment of colour!
don't really need to say "keep up the good work", as I doubt the very gods themselves could slow you down  :D

This is the converted Necron. Just basic weapon swaps and shield combo. Had to shave off the second hand on the shaft of the weapon, and pin it in place. Not sure if I want to de-SciFi these, or just rust them up a la Wildcard... I personally love the hench, bulky look of this model;

Some loving for my Ogres too, in the form of this gigantic "war hog", which is the standard "Gracie" model from the Malifaux Gremlin range. Such a fantastic model, and going to make a superb mount for my Gnoblar Scrap King for my future Bartertown Gnoblar army...

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
All I've got to offer you at the moment is the above test model. I can't decide whether to go full blown Tomb Crons, or to only use them for select (read: elite) roles in the army...

I appreciate the compliment! Admittedly I am getting a bit better at speed painting, but I can't help but think an airbrush would speed things up exponentially, not to mention cutting out some of the more mundane and tedious steps in my armies; particularly block colours and bigger models. Perhaps even help me crank out 500 Gobbos before breakfast :P

I promise to you, here and now, that the first model I will finish with my airbrush when it arrives is Bubelos! Not even the Gods shall stop me! :D

Josh, I'm not sure what look your exactly going for with the TK build bit I have to say this guy does look pretty sweet as a more "special" character.

looking at the other TK models (and playing against a TK army on occasion) the thing I would be looking at myself would be losing some of the armour lines on the legs and smoothing them out with GS. The reason I say this is that I think this is the thing that makes the dude look "metal" rather than dusty dead.
For me (and it's just me) I would dance between the Necron and TK look by losing the robo joins and hinting at "could be flesh...could be metal" if that makes sense.
Now this is in no way a criticism, like I said; for me I would be dipping a toe in both camps.

On the plus side here, the guy looks epic....but my mind doesn't work like other peoples so my immediate question is; what shield is that and is it a standard cheapo component for a Necron? The reason I ask is that it looks like it has a spine down the middle and if it's just a cheapo plastic bit, then that could come in handy for other projects and a quick cheat for "making a spine" rather than banging one out of GS!

Lastly..the pig! Wow  :o that model is awesome! I love the idea of Barter town Gnoblars and an army of peasant/ pikey/ thieves for Ok would be awesome...this I can easily picture in my head and almost want to go make one myself. If you go with this idea I for one will be glued to your Gnoblog hungry for updates...the whole concept just sounds awesome to me.

My thoughts exactly; I am thinking of only including Necrons for the more high profile roles in my army - characters and perhaps Tomb Guard. I definitely want to retain the metal look, but perhaps a very rusted version much like Wildcard did in his Gnoblog. I will remove some of the symbols and stuff, but the metal as a whole is something I want to keep :)

Sadly, it's not a cheap component from the 'Cron range, but actually from one of their Elite boxes, the Lychguard/Praetorians (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat700003a&prodId=prod1380038a). It is well worth buying the boxed set though, because not only do the shields kick arse but the sprues actually come with "spine" components necessary to build one of the variants :) They'd be perfect for what you need them for!

What's even better is you can pick it up for around £7 and it is easily one of the best plastic models in terms of detail and character I have ever worked with... The Bartertwon army is something I have had ideas for, for a while, but just not really put together. It's not necessarily an army I will actively work on, but I already have models converted for - not many mind you!

Okay, new day, new project... It was inevitable really, but since the new Dwarf releaswe I have been fighting the temptation to start up an army of the little guys... Well, no longer!

Initially, I tried to be logical about it and use my Chaos Dwarves as a dual-puprose army, being able to be fielded as either Chaos or normal stunties. But, where is the fun in that?!

So, I am aiming for a non-gunline army, with one or two big Hordes, supported by some smaller MSU-style units. Admittedly, I don't have the book yet, and have only browsed the shop copy in my LGS so nothing is set in stone yet for the army composition as I'm not wholly clued up on the good, the bad and the ugly of the new book.

Currently thinking;

"Unkillable" Dwarf Lord

Rune Lord

BSB

10 Quarrellers

10 Quarrellers

10 Quarrellers

10 Quarrellers

40 Hammerers

40 Slayers

OR

40 Ironbreakers

1 Gyrocopter

1 Gyrocopter

1 Gyrocopter

1 Gyrocopter

All three characters will bunker in the Hammerers, although I would probably aim to fit the Runelord in the second rank where he can still provide the bonuses he confers, without getting smacked around unnecessarily.

Clearly some things will have to be cut in order to make the points work, but you get the general idea :)

Looking really good! It's a nice change to see some 40k models every now and then :)

I like the poses on the Necron model, but the "pig" does take the spotlight. I really can't wait to see that model finished! :D

The Dwarf amiers sound fun. I'm not a fan of gunline armies either. My Empire army has only 2 Cannons, 1 Mortar, 2 Heblasters and 1 Helstorm. And mind you, the army is around 6k in points, maybe even more (haven't counted in a while...) :P I'm going with a Middenheim theme, and the followers of Ulric aren't that into all the black powder stuff, so most of my handguns and cannons will be from other provinces, mostly Nuln. Got to get those Ironsides! :D

Keep on painting and posting, as these ideas and pics are a real joy to follow :)

I've only got one very bad pic (due to the window behind the table) of the whole army, and only part of it is painted... That's my one failing hobby wise. I've got a lot of huge armies, but only a fraction of all the models have been painted :D It is not that bad in the end though, as my hobby enthusiasm is extremely mercurial so I have a lot of choice when my interest changes :P
But I'll try to get some more pics of the army and upload 'em. I'll add the pics I have now to my Gnoblog! Check in an hour or so :D

And yeah, I use quite a lot of smilies :D I think it's all down to being a kid from the '80s, who's lived through the dotcom-bubble days and used IRC ;) Writing the symbols that make the smilies comes relatively naturally in the end... But maybe I should put that quote in my sig :P

Hey mate, an epic amount of work going on. Good work

Any chance of a pic of the pig next to a man sized model? Could be a nice addition to hide in my empire army :)

Empire
Ogres
Hey mate!

Appreciate the kind words, particularly from a hobby hero like yourself :)

Yeah, of course;

As you can see, scale isn't great for Empire, but for Ogres or maybe even Orcs, it wouldn't be too bad :)

The pig is Gracie from Wyrd's Malifaux game; such a fantastic model, I just had to pick it up! It is modelled as a real pig, but glad in make-shift armour, formed from every day scrap metal including a teapot, frying pans, cutlery, and various other household items. It's truly bonkers! :)

Im going to give some serious thought into getting one of those. I really do have a love for pigs. Out of the pan and in it.

The idea of an ogre with a big crossbow sitting on top of that running with mournfang just makes me very happy

I adore pigs too! I had one as a pet for a short while, and plan to have one again :) Like bacon too, so yknow!

Pigs are fun creatures :D And even when butchered, they're useful: bacon! :P
Similarly, boars are fun as well. Not to mention extremely delicious. Liked the animal ever since reading the Asterix and Obelix comics when I was a kid. One reason why I'm at some point going to add some Boar Boyz to my Orcs & Goblins :D

This weekend's purchases;

As you can see, getting started on my Dwarf army which is great. Will probably buy the rest in one lump, to get it all together.

I also caved and bought a Mega Paint set. Partly because they are now unavailable from GW, but mostly because I am tired of buying my paints retroactively. Now, I will be stocked with any paint I should happen to need :)

Lastly, the only Simpsons boxed sets I was missing :)

A great haul! :lol:

The Dwarf models are gorgeous, and I'm thinking about getting some at some point in the future. Right now I actually want to get one of the new Imperial Knights! :D They look absolutely amazing :)

However, I'm resolved to getting my Ogre army up to at least 3k before I start a new army. Most likely up to 4k :D

The Mega Paint set is a good thing, as now you don't have to think if you've got some paint or another. I've got the same set (and the old version) and it really is great to not have to think about having to go and buy a paint. Unless you run out of course ;)

I have wanted a fully customised and heavily detailed gaming board pretty much since the very first time I ventured into the hobby, but due to a mixture of time, cost and inclination it has never materialised...

Well, I contacted (arguably) one of the world's premier gaming board designers to gauge the cost of having one tailor made. I sent over some rough plans (basically, wanted a roughly Shire themed board with some flat land and agriculture), and they came up with a phenomenal blend of 3D renders, previous work and sketches. Oh, and a price tag of £3635...

Unfortunately, I couldn't justify paying almost 4 grand on a gaming board, no matter how badly I want it, so I have elected that this year will be the year I make my own. Using a mixture of the pictures they sent me over, and my own amazing (LOL!) MS Paint skills, I have drawn a rendition of what I will be aiming for...

Whilst it may be of little use to you, I would suggest getting in touch with some of them "Model train nerds".

When building some of my 40k boards I noticed that to get a "realistic" look to the scenery it was no good taking cues from wargamers. Realistic is not really what we do per-say. We recreate battlefields but with a hint of the fantasy (be it Sci-Fi or fantasy) about them. These train nerd dudes are amazingly good at re-creating "real-life" style boards for their trains.

This seem's to work in the same vein as; the guys who build or recreate historic dioramas of tanks and WWII battles are much better than us at weathering stuff.

With this observation in mind I have bitten the bullet a few times and headed off to one of these model train conventions and directly asked these guys about re-creating boards with realistic earth-works and terrain. Whilst I don't fully get the whole train-love thing, they have often been really helpful in sharing techniques when it comes to making terrain that actually looks like real countryside.
One of these guys re-created a stretch of track/ scenery in the county I live in that (once photographed) was impossible to tell from a photo of the real thing. I have to take my hat off to these train-nerd types; when it comes to terrain they do know their s**t! (this is if you can survive listening to the difference between a mallard steam carrage and the DC174 intercity coach bus....etc etc blah blah blah....worth it in the end if you can keep smiling!)
Same goes for the Tamya military model makers; what they don't know about rust, mud and weathering isn't worth knowing....when in doubt ask these guys and they come up with products and tecniques that are amazing and helpful at the same time.

Just don't hang around long enough for them to realize you play with Dwarfs and elves and start making jokes about child's toys and inferior hobbies!

Oh...the reason I say this is because the guy who re-created half of the countryside like-for-like near me made this MASSIVE board all for about £200....which considering what it looked like (a photograph) was damn cheap, and allot bigger than 6x4!

G_H
Scratch making scenery is something I've always wanted to get into but could never quite get my head around.  I love that realistic look that this kind of board has with heaps of different textures and little details that you could stare at for hours and still find new stuff.  I definitely agree with G_H though, train modellers seem to do display boards at a whole different level.  So will it be an actual gaming board or more display orientated?

I'm in the UK Jimmy :) It is a daunting project to undertake, but one I am quite looking forward to nonetheless. I am hoping to get it down to less than a sixth of that price, but we will see :)

I'm definitely going to be talking to a few model train enthusiasts on the basis of your recommendations :) I am already pricing up a lot of the finer details through model train suppliers, which is great stuff, and reasonably priced!

You would be surprised wat 100£ will buy you when there is no citadel logo on the box/pack/bag/can. For example, for the prise of those little tub of citadel sand, you can get a 50 pound bag at a building material suplier.
Where I live, I just can pick up 10 pound pieces of slate from the side of the road. Where soms trees have been cut, look for bark, great for imitating rock.
Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it
Josh; something else I would consider is looking into model train forums and shops that sell on second hand stock.
The reason for this is; their interest is always 100% the trains (track, points systems, power supplies, cabling etc etc) they don't really care one iota about the board it's on.
This is useful because whilst they put a high price on trains and other stuff, some of the boards are almost throw-away.
I have picked up no end of stuff in the past from people "breaking down" a train track board so they can make a new one for a new train from a different period or different location.
They will happily rip out trees, bushes, land marks, fences, bridges, tunnels etc etc and bung them your way for next-to nothing if it is something that doesn't fit in with their next board.

like I say, the trains are really their thing so bargains on terrain can be found with a little digging. It is worth it in the end because, like I said above, these guys really know their stuff terrain-wise. Just a pity they have to mess up a good board by putting trains on it.

Okay, so I booked a day off today to recover from post-St.-Patricks-day hangover. But, having drop out friends meant no one to get stupidly drunk with - not being the drinking alone kind - and no hangover. So, with a day to spare, I stuck some of my favourite dvd's on the player and finally did some painting...

Some small progress on the below, basically tidying up and adding in a bit of colour. Small progress is progress nonetheless!

Queek Headtaker;

Skaven Warlord;

Crypt Horror;

Dwarf Master Engineer/Special Character. Very happy with this guy, probably my best paint job to date. Tried a few techniques I haven't done before, as well as tried many new paints from my paint set. Most pleased with how he went from grey plastic to fully painted in a mere few hours. Speed painting for the win! Just need a basing scheme now...;

First fully finished Emperor's Children Space Marine. As you can see, I finally decided on white shoulder pads, both to fit the fluff but also to break up the richness of the purple;

All in all, not a bad day's efforts and finished not one but two models in the same day, which is some kind of miracle for me. Also finished my first ever 40k model, and a Space Marine no less... :)

Looks good mate! :D

I can't wait to see the Skaven models and the Crypt Horror painted. I think Queek is an outstanding model, and the Island of Blood set is just gorgeous! Not to mention that these models keep my enthusiasm to paint the hordes of Skaven and Vampire Counts models I have lying around in various stages of assembly and painting :P

And seriously though, check out local DIY stores. Sand is dirt cheap (pun intended :P ), and you can get it in more 'sizes' than the extremely fine GW stuff :)

Since getting some decent progress done this weekend, I really have the painting bug but will probably have to wait until this weekend, due to it being too poor light when I get home from work in the evenings :( Hopefully will get to try out the airbrush this weekend finally!

I know the feeling mate. Getting armies (or even units) from the WIP stage to the finished stage can be difficult :D

I used to design an army and then get most of the stuff at the same time. Not surprisingly, huge amounts of models that are similar do get a bit monotonous, so they were left alone... I now took a new step, by keeping only some morels on the desk and only putting them away when they're finished. And not getting new models out before the old ones are finished :P Time to get some stuff done! :)

I am the very same! I always plan an army, by it all in one go and then wonder why I am bored by the monotony and routine of painting the same models over and over :P Hence why I take a less structured, more eclectic approach to painting nowadays :) Keeps things varied and interesting! :)

Well I for one am hoping that this eclectic approach and potential airbrush unveiling will result in some love for the beast that is Tamurkhan on Toaddragon!  ;)

:lol:

Only problem with the current situation is that I can't, or well, more specifically, won't buy the new Knights yet. I really really want a few of them, but I just can't justify getting even one as I have so much unpainted stuff lying around :P Will have to see about that when the birthday's coming around again :D

Ha! Don't we all mate. I still have 150 Night Goblins that need some love, a Scibor butcher, a stonehorn, two firebellies and another 20 bulls to do, an ever growing number of (extortionately priced) old Chaos Dwarf models slowly stacking up and would really like to get my hands on a new giant. I love painting Giants (and would really love to get that big a** bone giant from FW; what a beauty!) but just can't justify buying anything else as I have soooo much stuff still to do.

More painting this weekend, plenty of minor updates so I will skip the words and get straight to the pictures...

Another finished model to add to the year's tally, a Crypt Horror. The style it's dark and grimy, befitting their fluff. Particularly happy with how the blood turned out, replete with stringy bits;

Obligatory Ogre post. Working on my third Thunderlord on Rhinox. I'd forgotten just how much of a ball ache individually highlighting fur could be...

Decided to start work on my next Marine, even though I was gonna wait till I had the airbrush figured out. Although already a convert on these guys, I think the purple does then great wonders;

Despite thinking he was done last weekend, I was internally unhappy with him and felt there was just something missing. He felt unfinished. I've drybrushed some of the armour and axe, and added some more gold just to make him seem a little more "individual". Much happier now;

Got a more solid colour on this guy, although I will probably be highlighting it a fair bit... Finally got to paint one of my custom bases too;

More work done on Harley Quinn, having done the grey as a basis for a more solid black to follow. That said, kinda torn on the grey, and tempted to not bother replacing it;

My Marco Colombo mini diorama. This was just an exercise in trying it the GW texture paints, and because I had spare red paint to use up...

Finally, layering the brown on my Werewolf themed Varghulf. From the front he's got a bit if a drunken lean going on, but the FW resin is too fragile to try to rectify it...

All in all, a very happy and productive painting session. Tried even more of the new paints and a few techniques. The paint set is one of my favourite ever purchases!

Josh, so many projects so little time! looking good there mate, though I am the worlds biggest hater of Space Marines.
I am glad you have popped up a picture of that gun-toting dwarf; I want to grab up one of these guys for a CD conversion. Looking at your model there doesn't seem to be too much Dwarf iconography that would need to be shaved off...add a chaos beard and voila! CD gun toting nut-job!

Keep 'em coming Josh

G_H
Thanks for the kind words Al!

It's funny, I've never been a big fan of Marines either. I always saw them as the GW poster boys, and they were just too vanilla for my tastes. Along came Forgeworld with their fancy Emperor's Children, and BAM! I was converted... Had to buy all the sets they made, but it didn't really tote up a full force so I grabbed some vanilla Marines to bulk it out :)

In truth, the dwarf dude has next to no one iconography bar the odd symbol on his banner pole. Easy conversion really :) Even the beard would beceaay with a little greenstuff to make it look a little more dreadlock-y :)

After weeks of putting it off, I finally decided to crack open the airbrush, and you have no idea how glad I am that I did... The results look great - in my humble opinion - not to mention the models below were done in in under 3 hours; base colours, washes,drying time between each and the process of cleansing the airbrush with each change of colour.

So, I decided to rig up a "spraying box" for my initial forays into airbrushing. It's crude, but it performed it's function admirably. Turns out, you don't really need it once you get to grips with the techniques, but it was a nice safety net when spraying paint in a room that houses about £6k worth of technology...

I had previously painted half of Bubelos by hand, which took in excess of an hour. I base coated the whole model, and washed it, in under 20 minutes... Gnoblar_Herder, thought you might like a progress shot ;)

Had plenty of leftover green paint, so decided to do all of the below. Basecoated and washed; pretty happy with how they all turned out.

Lastly, decided to base coat and wash all of the built Marines I had, who were undercoated. This whole process took about the same amount of time it took me to finish the base colours on the first marine I painted a few weeks back. Particularly happy with how these guys turned out;

I cannot recommend an airbrush strongly enough. It already has revolutionised my painting - allowing me to speed up my painting several thousand times - and I can only see more improvements on the way. Anyone tempted by one or slightly curious, I can only suggest you go and get one now! :)

So many things to say...where to start?

First; Bubebolos the toad dragon...what an amazing model! I would love to be able to justify spending the money on that beauty...but as I don't have a Chaos army I just can't. One day it will be a build of mine, purely so I can run a Tamurkhan army. loving seeing this rotten nurgle beastie getting some love.

Airbrush; ahhhhh, I wish. It's not the actual airbrush that worries me, it's having to buy all the paints, cleaning materials, compressor etc Whilst it may make painting big models quick and add amazing detail and blending to smaller ones, it just seem's like an expense I can't run to. Could I be cheeky and ask; how much did your airbrush and compressor cost? Are you using airbrush paint, or thinning existing paint? I would love to add an airbrush to my painting arsenal, but unless I can convince my missus that life would be impossible without it, it seem's unlikely.  :cry:

Orks look great...always nice to see Snikky and the freebooter. The latter is a beauty of a model to paint. It's one of those "surprise" models. I mean as you paint it more and more little details come to life and you see more and more of the model. The kind of "I thought I had finished...but then I realized he also has this, and this, and another one of these...etc" great model. Is your the Finecast version?

Great work here mate; just think tanks and other larger vehicles can be banged out in a few hours, blending work no longer presents a problem. Very lucky dude. I don't suppose the new addition is a Badger is it? I am told the patriot is an exceptional brush...doubt I will ever find out unless a lottery win comes my way!

G_H
Thanks for the feedback dude! So glad someone still finds time to read my humble blog... Of course I don't mind answering your questions! The airbrush and compressor were bought together for the grand price of £60, which actually included two airbrushes. It was such a bargain! They aren't the world's greatest, but every review I have read says they are a fantastic middle of the road brush, and an amazing airbrush for newbies :)

In regards to paint, I am using the existing GW range. I had planned to buy the Vallejo air range, and one day I shall, but right now it's an expense I can ill afford. The only thing I did need to buy was medium, to assist the fluidity of the paints. Roughly £20 for 500ml which is a lot, so not bad :)

Unfortunately, the Freebooter is the metal version, bought way back on release day. I love the model, but do wish I had waited for Finecast because it keeps toppling over due to weight :(

More painting on the way today :)

Thanks Belch! Great to see you still popping in on my humble blog. The Marines are probably my favourite project to date, but I am enjoying the task of painting one of the largest models I have ever painted :)

Some more painting done today;

Basecoated in grey to make for a good base for the metal to follow;

My conversion is complete on my opinion of these guys, having now painted one. Just wow...

Dread is now basecoated. This model is amazing, and is a perfect example of why FW is worth the little extra cash.

A scale shot to show you just how massive the Centurions are;

The precision work I am now attempting, as seen on the banner. The other half will be a deep crimson.

Basecoated the K'daai Destroyer;

Today was nowhere near as easy or delightful as yesterday's session. Mostly I had issues with the brush keep clogging, resulting in dismantling every few minutes. It hasn't disheartened me, but it has taught me two things; never use cheap paints in your airbrush (keep them for hand painting!) and correctly thinning your paints is key to success. I have set myself the task of ordering some Vallejo Airbrush Thinner this week, which will help. Just need to ensure I get the mix between Paint, Medium and Thinner right now. Practice makes perfect they say :)

Looking good mate! I've never used an airbrush before, apart from the GW one which is more like a paint hose. Good for basecoating though! :P

Yeah, the GW one is great for laying down a lot of paint quickly, but it struggled in terms of having use as a reliable method for detail. I still have mine, but it's been relegated since the new one came along! :) Thanks dude! The K'daai was a short term fix until FW brought their one out, but I kinda like how it's turning out, so I think I will stick with it now.

Hopefully more painting this week, but more likely to be the weekend now!

loving seeing the Bale Taurus and K'daai (incarnate) getting built and painted...these things always inspire me to get my thumb out my butt (and my cash out my wallet) and get on with my own army.

If you airbrushed the banner man then; well done! That it neat and sharp to say it's a spray.

I have little to say about SM...the centurion thing is big, but then it wants to be for the money they charge for them. I am sure the conversion stuff is good...though I don't doubt that you may have to check and triple check that it is the right mark whatever armour for the right unit, in the right century etc etc yawn.

Nice work though none-the-less.

G_H
Thanks mate!

Admittedly, they're both in a pretty early state. Just the grey basecoat for the steel colour to follow. But I am happy with how they're shaping up, and it gives me a boost on getting the army under way.

The Empire Standard Bearer was done entirely using an airbrush and a lot of patience... Thanks :)

Yeah, I'm not sure on the historical accuracy thing. It had originally occurred to me, but I'm not sure I have the diligence to sit there and work out the correct Mark of armour etc. I'm probably gonna wing it and go with the stuff I like. As for Centurions, I got three for £20 including packaging because they had been taken out of the cellophane. Couldn't argue with that :)

Definitely know how that feels! I had a terrible time choosing which Legion I wanted to do. Switched from Iron Hands, to Iron Warriors, to Dark Angels, to Blood Angels and back again. I finally settled on Emperor's Children, not for their colour scheme or fluff, but because of their Legion-specific models being ace (Palatine Blades and Kakophani in particular!)... :)

Absolutely why I would be doing Emperor's Children. I love the Thousand Sons pre-heresy fluff most, but EC for model potential is just incredible!

Your airbrushing skills are indeed formidable. Having never picked one up myself, it's difficult for me to truly evaluate how difficult it is, but I imagine it ain't easy!!!

Again, the wonders of seeing several projects advance at the same time is arguably one of the main draws of your 'humble' gnoblog (humble being in quotation marks not because you or it are/is not humble, but because it is now quite mammoth and an integral part of OS). So long may it continue.

There's just something about the models released for the EC, that seems so much more involved and developed than the other Legions to date. It was a close second for Death Guard, but I couldn't get behind the concept of them ever being Loyal :)

Thank you kind sir! But, I must say that it looks far harder than it actually is. Once you get the hang of thinning the paints down properly, and get a mastery of trigger control, it really isn't too bad. But, I shouldn't really be saying that, for fear of my work seeming less impressive... ;)

Thanks mate! I taped the banner, to stop any overspill onto the area which will eventually be red. The body was however painted without. I just lowered the PSI right down, and also kept the nozzle quite a bit closer to the model than I would normally. It's not clinically neat, but can be tidied up when doing the red :)

Glad to hear the FW models generating such a buzz :) Will have more work done on them this weekend, and most of next week too!

JJ, some fantastic work coming together here sir.

Firstly I love the Toad Dragon model from FW, thinking about getting it for my brother for a birthday/Christmas present seeing as I know I'd end up painting it for him anyway!  :)

All the marine projects are coming along well and just the variety of your painting projects adds so much to the gnoblog section.

Do you tend to just do a tiny bit on models and keep jumping around until they're all complete?  I've only got very few models in partially painted states, I'm a bit OCD and can't put something in the display cabinet until it's fully complete.

Second to this I'm really trying to stick to my guns this year and focus on completing everything I have (and use) before purchasing any more models.  Going to be tricky but I'm confident I can break the habit, I've even got a small kitty still from January that I was suppose to make some purchases from but I'm holding off.

Looking forward to seeing more.

I cannot recommend this model highly enough to anyone! It's a beautiful model, and easily the nicest model I have ever had the pleasure to build, paint and own. It's massive, and no small project, but don't let the price tag put you off. I finally took the plunge almost two years after it being released, and it was the best hobby purchase I have made :)

A few people have been saying this recently, and it really is flattering! Thank you guys! :)

Do you tend to just do a tiny bit on models and keep jumping around until they're all complete?
That's pretty much my patented method. It comes froma  mixture of lacking a decent attention span and having so many models needing completing that it just makes sense to work on more than one at a time. I pretty much pick a colour, paint any and all models that require that colour, then move onto the next colour, if that makes sense? :)

As for the Empire models, yeah, the Ironsides aren't as cool as the Manann's Blades, but they'll fit in with the Nuln contingent of my army. At the moment, the only model of that 'detachment' is a Master Engineer on the Robohorse, so he'll need some help :P I'll be getting the Manann's Blades as well, since they are gorgeous models, and I've got loads of Swordsmen bits lying around :)

That sounds exactly like me :D I'm a mercurial person when it comes to hobby interests, so I keep painting models from different armies. I'm somewhat surprised that I've managed to keep the focus on Ogres for over three months now :P However, the odd dash of some other models (like the Clanrats last month, and the Fists this month) do keep me from getting bored. That said, I do have numerous armies which have only had a few models painted up (my Vampires, for one). Need to get around to painting them as well :D

Very true! That's my only issue with the Empire range from FW, is that it's a lot of money for what is effectively conversion sets. But, those Manann models will make a great addition to the Marienburg/Pirates of Sartosa army I am putting together... Slowly :P

How well I know that feeling! I've got more part-painted armies and projects than I dare think about. But, I will get round to them at some point. Particularly now that I have the airbrush :) I think it's great how you have maintained motivation on the Ogres for 3 months - it's probably helped interspersing it with the Clanrats and Marines?

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
Oh definitely! I for one don't stay with one army that long, so doing other models in between has made this Ogre interest keep :) I heartily suggest doing the same to everyone else as well, since it helps keep you interested in one project. However, I'm not sure if I'll be painting yellow Marines that much, unless I figure out a quicker way of getting the basecoat on the model. :D And no, I never undercoat in white :P

And yeah, the Empire FW range is just conversion kits. But then again, they do use stuff that I've got loads of extras anyway, so it's not that bad :P

Good point :P But what I mean is the basecoat of yellow... I don't have problems with basecoating in general, but getting good coverage with such a light colour is a pain in the rear :D I'm dreading the time when I'll start painting my White Scars army...

Looks like I'll have to start looking for a good airbrush :D

I'll have to browse more then... The only art store that I know has an airbrush on the shelf is demanding around 100€ for it. And that's just the brush... Probably need to forget art stores and go to DIY stores that sell the same thing for third the price :D

Then I'd only need a place to use it. I don't think the gf would be too happy with colour spots on the walls :P

It's funny actually, I spent all that time building the cardboard "chamber" for spraying into, but was very surprised by how unnecessary it is. I spent all of last weekend using it, quite excessively, and there is no extraneous paint anywhere :) Amazing really!

Despite having six days holiday booked, I have some real world stuff going on that has put a serious hold on any major hobby progress.

That said, I have bought a new display cabinet which I constructed, and have already filled with a mix of new and old projects, finished and unfinished;

Been toying with "pure" - as in non-Heresy era - Chaos Marines for a while. Had some spare FW bits lying around as well as a WHFB Chaos Lord going spare. Finally got to paint it up. Not happy with the blood, but I'll have to fix it at another time;

Wanted to do a Loyalist Marine chapter for ages, which was always gonna be Iron Hands or Dark Angels, but they'll be pre-Heresy. Wanted something a bit more contemporary, so I tried out Space Smurfs, and am dead happy with the results;

No secret that I am a huge fan of the Death Korps of Krieg, and own several thousand pounds worth of them, but few are anywhere near painted mostly due to not being able to decide on a paint scheme. This guy being a Commissar bypassed that issue;

Lastly, this is a commission piece for a friend. I took it on mostly cause I enjoy painting Dwarves, I also enjoy painting Limited Edition models, and it gave me practice at painting both orange and Slayers;

Love the DKoK guy, I have always liked the look of these models, but not the cost that would be needed to field a decent sized army of them.

We all need to step back from the hobby from time to time as stuff slows us down, a few days holiday would be a luxury for me...hope you enjoy yours. Always looking forward to the latest editions to your vast army.

Great work mate :D

Do you have any close ups of the models in the cabinet? Looks like some really good work there, but I can't zoom enough ;)

Death Korps are a stunningly beautiful army. A friend of mine has a large force of them, and it's a blast to play against the army as the models are just so good-looking :) I've dreamed of an army of them, but I think I'll be going for an Elysian army as the idea of Drop Troops is just awesome. Probably have to go for both at some point :P

And those Ultramarines are looking great as well. I really like the highlights you've done. Slightly more subtle than the extreme edge highlights that I see too often :P

Keep 'em coming, even despite the break :D

@Gnoblar_Herder; Thanks buddy! An army of DKoK would certainly be pricey, especially considering they're a horde army. But I'm almost there now!

@Randroid; thank you very much! I did indeed do the base as well. It's one of the better bases I have done. I'm not wholly happy with the snow mix, its a new recipe.

@Loran; Thanks mate! I will try and take some close up shots of the cabinet, but some of it is just unpainted and stored there to remind me that I need to get painting. I too want to do Elysians as well, just need to get the DKoK done, and I can move onto them! Thanks for the compliments on the Ultramarines, its high praise indeed from Marine Master like yourself. I went for subtler edge highlights as I feel it works on some Chapters, but I feel it looks a little more ludicrous on the Smurfs!

I might have some more stuff to come later!

Awesome, can't wait! :D

And I completely forgot to mention the Dwarf model :oops: That is one stunning model, especially the base! The muted colours of the base and the white snow compliments the Dwarf very well. Great work :D Btw. where is the daemon head from? :)

The daemon slayer and daemon head are meant to go together. It's all part of the same model from Gamesday back 6+ years ago(I think). I have one of those as well just waiting to be used.

If it's any use, there is a way of bulking that DKoK army to epic proportions without spending a kings ransom...my friend PJ has just done that very thing and they look awesome.

Hey Jimmy,

Yeah, of course. It's simply Baking Powder (or whatever you choose to call it) mixed with about half quantity of PVA Glue, mixed into a paste and applied liberally. It looked great in the article I borrowed it from, but now it doesn't have the level of realism I am looking for :/

The icicles I would love to say I made, but are actually bought from a model train store. They sell long strips of them, and I just cut a few off at a time and applied them with a small dab of super glue :)

Interestingly enough I've also used that snow technique and many years later it certainly starts to take on a yellow tint to it unfortunately.  Nowadays I'm mixing the woodland scenics into a paste and applying that and it works well so far.

I'll have to look out for the icicles.

I have made icicles before out of flying stands and water effect. This seem's to work quite well. Take the stem of a flying stand hack it about a bit with a craft knife then soak it in water effect and hang it up to dry as the water effect runs down.

If you do it with the base still on, then you just hack it off at the base and attach it to whatever you want it for. It does work better for buildings and terrain though. If you want a nose-drip icicle then I am guessing (unless it's for a giant) the flying stem would be too big!

Just an idea.

Recently picked up the Daemons book again, after a long time of disenchantment with them. I blame it partially on a cheese overload from last edition, as well as the relative ambivalence I feel towards them since they got beaten over the head with the nerf bat... That said, I've been listening to some podcasts lately, as well as chatting to the Warhammer tournament players, and I've had some really cool ideas for new and exciting ways to play them whilst retaining a very competitive edge.

Below are two lists I quite like the idea of, and have plans to trial over the next few months. Hopefully will trial them, and is they pan out, one or both of them will become my new tournament army.

Okay, so this first one I like to affectionately refer to as my Speed Daemon list;

+ Heroes + (240pts)

* Herald of Nurgle (115pts); Battle Standard Bearer

* Herald of Tzeentch (125pts); Level 2 Wizard (35pts); Lore of Tzeentch

+ Core + (695pts)

* 20 Pink Horrors of Tzeentch (260pts)

* 30 Plaguebearers of Nurgle (435pts); Full Command; Banner of Swiftness

+ Special + (1020pts)

* 6 Beasts of Nurgle (360pts)

* 3 Fiends of Slaanesh (195pts)

* 5 Flesh Hounds of Khorne (225pts); Ambushers

* 3 Screamers of Tzeentch (120pts)

* 3 Screamers of Tzeentch (120pts)

+ Rare + (550pts)

* 5 Plague Drones of Nurgle (275pts)

* 5 Plague Drones of Nurgle (275pts)

The concept here is simply to get in your opponent's face as soon as possible. The Plaguebearers are slow, but with the Banner of Swiftness it should help them get into combat quicker and mean they can tarpit early in the game. The two units of Drones will be deployed on opposite sides of the table and will be support charging my other units. The Screamers are effectively performing the usual chaff/redirector role, but with huge reach, the ability to do fly-by's, and worst case scenario are a cheap speed bump. I have 5 really quick units and I think that could be a handful for anyone to handle at once.

The list is missing the obligatory Skullcannons, and you'd think that would ease up the comp score but the big block of Beasts immediately brings it crashing back down again, but I think the trade-off in what they add to the army is totally worth it.

Its very character-light but I like it and don't feel the list needs too much support.

I'd break the Beasts up into two units for a bit more flexibility.

Ogre Battles!

The other is a pure Slaaneshi build, going for a slightly more "MSU" style which is certainly the new vogue in competitive Daemon play. I wish the Slaaneshi LD Bomb was still a viable thing... *sigh*

+ Heroes + (575pts)

* Herald of Slaanesh (185pts); Exalted Locus of Beguilement; Level 1; Lore of Slaanesh

* Herald of Slaanesh (125pts); Level 1; Lore of Shadow

* Herald of Slaanesh (125pts); Level 1; Lore of Shadow

* The Masque of Slaanesh (140pts)

+ Core + (650pts)

* 35 Daemonettes of Slaanesh (430pts); Full Command; Banner of Swiftness

* 10 Daemonettes of Slaanesh (110pts)

* 10 Daemonettes of Slaanesh (110pts)

+ Special + (830pts)

* 3 Fiends of Slaanesh (195pts)

* 3 Fiends of Slaanesh (195pts)

* Seeker Chariot of Slaanesh (110pts)

* Seeker Chariot of Slaanesh (110pts)

* 5 Seekers of Slaanesh (110pts); Musician

* 5 Seekers of Slaanesh (110pts); Musician

+ Rare + (440pts)

* Exalted Seeker Chariot of Slaanesh (220pts)

* Exalted Seeker Chariot of Slaanesh (220pts)

I really like this list for how "pure" it is. I'm not sold on the Lore's on each Wizard, but my thoughts were the obligatory Slaanesh Wizard, with the two Shadows to support.

The Herald with Locus will go in the big block of Daemonettes, who will be a Horde. The other two Heralds will each go in one of the smaller units. The aim is to get across the board as quick as possible, and into close combat. There are enough units to always make supporting charges, which without Slaanesh daemons tend to fail.

@Jimmy; the way the current meta is, Beasts only excel as multiple units of single Beasts or as a big block. I like the idea of two units of three, but they seem to lose effectiveness too quickly. What makes you say three's? :)

It's exactly the same principle as Ogre bulls for the Beasts, in my opinion. To have any impact by the time they reach combat, 6 is a much more viable option. Or split fire and have multiple single beasts as you mentioned JJ.

I really like both lists. My favourite is the first one (despite my love os Slaanesh's theatrics) due to the screamers which are still some of my favourite creatures in concept. Hopefully these army lists will become additional modelling projects for you very soon! :)

I really like the idea of 6, and run most 40mm based models as a minimum of 6 just as a matter of course. But, I am intrigued by the prospect of running them as 6 single units. It would add another 5 drops in deployment, add more targets to soak up cannon fire, and make them less of a liability when one gets dropped by gun fire or combat. Hmmm...

Both lists are quite expensive to get the models together for; I have some of the first list, but would be totally from scratch for the second list. Might run the numbers and see if it'll be the last project for me, for this year.

Talking of which; I will be becoming a lot more "normal" in regards to hobby project work load moving forward due to a need to cut costs and reduce hobby expenditure over the next 9 months or so. It's my birthday next January, and I will be throwing a somewhat huge and expensive party, and the whole thing is currently weighing in at around £3k, so I need to really watch the pennies... To that end, before I can buy any more models/armies I will have to paint twice the equivocal value first. Just a motivational tool really :)

Just leaving this here to come back to...

+ Lords +

+ Heroes +

* Master (107pts); Battle Standard Bearer, Hand Weapon, Heavy Armour, Sea Dragon Cloak, Shield

* Master (92pts); Dark Steed, Hand Weapon, Heavy Armour, Sea Dragon Cloak, Shield

+ Core +

* 5 Dark Riders (105pts); Light Armour, Musician, Repeater Crossbows

* 5 Dark Riders (105pts); Light Armour, Musician, Repeater Crossbows

* 40 Witch Elves (470pts);  Full Command

+ Special +

* 40 Executioners of Har Ganeth  (510pts); Full Command

* 7 Shades (146pts); Bloodshade, Musician, Repeater Crossbow, Great Weapons

* 7 Shades (146pts); Bloodshade, Musician, Repeater Crossbow, Great Weapons

+ Rare +

* 10 Doomfire Warlocks (250pts)

* 10 Doomfire Warlocks (250pts)

Looking at making this my tournament army for the rest of the year. Need to play-test it a bit more, but currently running W6-D1-L1, so fairly happy with it...

The Dark Elf list looks pretty solid :)

Can't say about tournament efficiency, but a W/L/D of 6/1/1 can't be that wrong :D Do you have pics of the army? I really need to get to grips with painting my Dark Elves. Need to strip paint off some new Execs (the old models) I bought from eBay :D

It's a nice build, and the nicest to use that I have put together so far. Better than the Dark Rider spam or Cold One Knight bus. My only issue so far was a fairly mobile Nurgle Daemons list, similar to the one I posted above. It just shut down my mobility, and that many Plague Drones is a ball ache to deal with as a DElf player...

As for pics, unfortunately not, due to the games all being proxied at the moment to get a feel for the best tournament build :(

A couple of quick updates, which will pretty much act as a bookmark for me to return to.

Firstly, I received a fantastic box of goodies in the post from Gnoblar_Herder, which was unexpected and very pleasant. Thanks buddy, you're a gentleman and a scholar! :)

One of the most exciting bits in the box for me, was a Cadian Command Squad, which I have never had the pleasure of looking at. The amount and variety of bits is fantastic, and I really felt an image forming in my head of how I wanted them to look, and the character they would portray. I immediatley set to work putting them together, and now possess a ragtag posse who I have even come up with a background for (see below!). Unfortunately, I have no photos right now, but I will take some soon! :)

The Regimental Command Squad of the Royal XXII, better known as "The Wardens of Corinthia", is of a slightly unorthodox composition lacking a Standard Bearer, Vox Operator or Specialist Weapons. It is led by Major Constantine, with secondary leadership responsibilities falling to Lieutenant Grant.

All five men grew up together on Corinthia, in its maiden city of Georgiana; developing a strong group bond from an early age. Attending standard and higher education - as well as doctrinated into the Astra Militarum - together, there is a loyalty and camaraderie that is unparalleled even within the ranks of the Corinthian Guard regiments - people known above all else for their brotherhood in arms.

Spencer Constantine is a naturally charismatic man, exhibiting signs of initiative and leadership whilst still a child. The leader of the group throughout all of their formative years, Constantine has continued what has always come naturally, having ridden an astronomical rise through the ranks. He has the full support of his friends, and his men adore him. No better leader has Corinthia ever born.

Abraham Grant is a strong, but quiet man, happy to watch things from a distance and only intervene when asked or truly necessary. He assumed the role of "right hand man" to Constantine early in their relationship, and it is a role he fulfils to this day; providing counsel and advice to his oldest friend. Cold and calculating, Grant is acutely aware of everything, and his orders are carefully followed by those below him, through both fear and unerring loyalty.

Jonathan Jacob Hughes is a "salt of the Earth" kind of man - honest and unassuming, but always ready to fight to preserve what he believes is right. Fiercely loyal to family, friends and Corinthia, Hughes would lay down his life to save what he loves, and when the Imperium came calling, he stood up to be counted. Now a veteran of many of the Imperium's wars, he's a hardened and dogged man, and there is no one else Constantine or Grant would rather have by their side.

Doctor Alec Smith was always the brightest person in any group he was in. And for this, he was always an outcast. Freakishly smart, gifted with an intellect that is once in a generation, Smith's aptitude was something Constantine recognised and valued from the very first day they met. He welcomed him into their brotherhood with open arms, and his quick wit and medical knowledge has repaid the kindness in dividends. Openly recognised as the greatest surgeon on the whole of Corinthia, the XXII's resolve is strengthened knowing they're in safe hands.

Luther Michaels is, and indeed always has been, an oddball. When he was a child, other children often gave him a wide berth choosing to play with others and leaving Michaels to his own devices. He has always been quiet, emotionally ambivalent and even a little cold. Not much is known before his tenure in one of Corinthia's many foster homes, but once Constantine reached out in friendship, history was written. Michaels excelled in marksmanship training upon entering the Guard, and his company was formally request by Constantine as the greatest marksman of the modern era. There is no one the squad would rather have watching over them - and, from his perch up above them, he is their guardian angel, wreaking smoking vengeance on any who should attempt to smite his friends.

It may not be the most exciting, or well written, piece of fluff. But, I like the characters I've created and they really fit the models. I'm happy :)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On another note, back to Fantasy, and I am really intrigued by the current Wood Elf release. I'm not sure I could ever play the tree-huggers, but love the models. What I have since considered doing is creating an army amalgamated from all three races of Elves, and then be able to play them as any one of the three... I just can't see how to tie in three disparate looking "micro forces" :( Any ideas?

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.

And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
Glad you got the stuff and you like it.

On the subject of the Elf races (Elves) this may sound a bit dim, but why not just paint them the wrong colours? It would be enough to make them look "not" like the race from which they come.

If it helps my woodie playing friend has painted all his models using the colours most would use for Dark Elves. This has not only created a unique looking army, but at the time it helped him as he like the woodie models but wanted a Dark Elf army. When I first saw his army I actually thought they were DE until I looked up close.

Wouldn't this work? Black, Purple and (brown washed) silver HE, would surely make them look less like traditional HE.

(oh, almost forgot...love the fluff for your command group; now don't you go all Blanchet on us! Or better still; DO!)
Alright JJ, I will give you my opinion on these elves. Elves are Panzy leaf eaters. You sir are an ogre. Put aside these festering thoughts of elves and eat a 62 ounce steak, paint an ogre and then send a strongly worded letter to GW to make some more ogre models.

I got to 40oz and started dying from meat sweats... I'm not cut out for this Ogre lark! That said, I have almost finished my Maneater for the paint 'n' trade event, so I may share some sneak previews soon :D

Is it that bad? I wasn't sure if two units of 10 was competitive or not. But judging on when I run the two units of 5 and they wreck face, I can imagine this is pretty hard to counter. With 4 units of fast cav, this list is my favourite I have play-tested so far :)

Okay, so it's been almost three months since I was last around these parts. For that, I can only apologise - it wasn't planned, and completel unforeseen. In truth, it's been a bit of a nightmare few months - in short;

- I was made redundant around the end of May, and without a job I had a few financial issues
- Spent two weeks looking for a new role, and fortunately secured one relatively sharp-ish
- Have had a rocky time settling into my new role
- Had an absess beneath several of my teeth, which I had to take a long course of antibiotics to sort out
- Broke a tooth the following night, and have now waited 5 weeks for an appointment with my dentist to have both teeth seen to
- Had several financially-heavy months, with birthdays, events and what not to contend with

So, without the minute and personal details included, it's been a frantic few months and my hobby (particularly it's digital side) has been well and truly on the back burner.

Alas, I am back now - albeit in a slightly reduced capacity compared to before, for the foreseeable future. In my absence, I have slowly been getting back into the painting and have some pictures for you all:

First off, I decided I needed to have a clear out of dead projects, and this was batch one of the stuff I wasn't sure on;

Next, I played a small WHFB intro game, and I took Vampire Counts. I needed a unit of Black Knights ASAP, so dcided to give them a quick and nasty paint job to get them done. At first, I wasn't convinced but they served the purpose. Now, I like them so much I will be doing all models like that;

Also been getting some work done on the Dwarves - this is an ex-LotR model, and I was just trialling size and a new purple I have bought;

More work done on this guy - mostly the white trim to break up all of the brown;

More work on this little dude - will be my first painted Greenskin, like ever...

Managed to pick myself up a Realm of Battle board from a GW contact for £100, which gave me a bit of a kick into getting some terrain finally painted up. Here, you've got the before and current shots;

Also, got the airbrush out and gave a first lick of paint to one of the Arachnarok's, for my dual-Spidey list;

Had some spare balsa wood lying around, so started creating unit fillers for my VC Zombies, because - let's face it - I will need a bucket load of them...

Just got into Infinity as well, in a real big way, so have bought a few minis to test out colour schemes and the likes;

Lastly, painting Marines in batch is the best way

Obviously, almost everything here is Work in Progress, so there's plenty left to be done before they are anywhere near what would resemble "finished". But, just to give you guys an idea of the limited hobby stuff I've been getting on with since being out of the hobby for a bit :)

Anyway, enough rambling, I should probably get back to work...

Nice to see you back Buddy! All the side projects....how did you get rid of them? Was there a "sale" that I missed?

G_H
Thanks matey - it's good to be back. I've missed this place!

I didn't get rid of much you'd be overly interested in truthfully mate - still got some of it lying around. It was mostly to ease the pain of being unemployed, as well as to fund my rather expensive dental treatments this coming Friday :(

Hey Jimmy!

Thanks matey - it's very good to be back. Gotta take it steady and not burn myself out, with everything else going on but I am eager to get stuck in. The spiders will be a side project for me, for now, just whilst I try to get this scenery out of the way. I am super keen to get my gaming board up and running, so it has become somewhat of a priority for me :)

Welcome back mate, nice to see other guys returning as well :D Sorry to hear about the real life difficulties though, that sucks. But hopefully things'll turn out for the better sooner than later :)

Can't wait to see new work! :D

As always, wonderful to have you around my ever-smiling partner in crime here at the Stronghold!

Life has it's tough turns (we'll share tales over a drink one day!) but just think of them as the autobiography times. The bits that will make your life story all the more interesting for it's challenges and hardships. They will make the victories all the sweeter.

Your airbrushing always makes me envious, as does your ability to sustain enthusiasm for multiple projects. I look forward to seeing that little bit more of you! (even if it's just words on a screen really!) :)

Why, thank you my ever-present, thespian fellow Maneater :) Its great to see you still around - you've been the only true constant in my hobby, or certainly the digital side of it. Thanks for that man!

Your words of wisdom are certainly reassuring, and I'm sure we will have great tales to tell one day over large mugs of ale and copious amounts of food. Speaking of which, we really need to hang out for a game someday soon! :)

Thanks for the kind words my friend. I've put in a lot of work, bettering my airbrush technique, so I am glad to hear it's noticeable. As ever, I'm keeping up steam on the hobby butterfly behaviour :)

Thanks! That's probably the most enthusiastic greeting ever! :D

And indeed, it is great to be back. It really did bother me that I didn't have the time to check up on everything in a proper fashion with time, but it also made me realize how much an effect the Stronghold community has on my hobby :) Just by being able to pop in and post in the Word Association thread has been a great help to keep up the enthusiasm to get the move and renovations done quickly. Now I need to get the boxes unpacked and the apartment sorted out to get painting again :D

Thanks Rich! :) It's great to be back - yeah, things aren't quite there, but they are back on track now.

I'm looking forward to getting some more work done on the various projects on my desk, and being able to share it with you lot :)

I am considering selling some stuff off, purely to finance other projects, to get myself back on track and to sort out this damn dentistry lark. That said, I am really still undecided :)

Well, whilst that's unlikely for now as they're my competitive gaming army, it did occur to me that you'd get first refusal matey :) Even though it goes without saying!
