That is a awesome model you have made i really like it, it really stands out with the paint making it stand out good choice of colours and the snakes on the base make the model look even more scary. And welcome to stronghold i hope you put more stuff up here soon.

/agree, though I don't really have a thing going on for CD. Lizardmen were my first love too; I really love your stuff. The fat skink, the FSOD (though I wouldn't make it a priest, rather a chief with blessing of Sotek and two handweapons, for mage/artillery hunting), the KROXIGOR... Though I have to be honest and say I like the GW Slann better, I love the way yours really looks like a big frog with bloated cheeks.
And I love the strigoi too, which (imo) is better than your banshee though it does look a little more... messy. I love the strips of flesh that hang onto his right arm in contrary to the dude from the other forum.
And the progress you make, which really shows through all of the pics from first to latest sculpt. You a Disciple of Rikard?
WarplockMonkey13 Apr 2008
Thankyou muchly for all your positive comments!!
Thumper: A chief you say? But with the lore of metal (sacred host), i can make all artillery obsolete, reduce heavliy armed unit's weapons to dust, plus hawking a big glob of molten silver, doing 2d6 s4 at a single model! I still post my stuff up there, but i hardly get any feedback
But for now, my reservoir of inspiration has dried up, help me replenish it's potentially fruitful waters!!!

Yes, well, I was part of that site too, but I stopped going there some time ago... instead going here and TWF far more often then I ever visited TPV. Indeed much more/better response on other sites than TPV.
And concerning Rikard... If there's anyone that can sculpt LM (especially Nakai) like Hell's Patron, it's Rikard. I think I do see some of his influence on your work.
Concerning the FSOD vs Lore of Metal; don't you have to roll that spell? And to take a Slann to teh battlefield just for flinging Molten Silver at artillery, is a little expensive ain't it?
Anyway, I haven't seen a JSOD yet, the Kroxigor is just dying for some mates (I can tell ) and why not give Nakai another go while you're at this level? Or try sculpting a new Vargulf; instead of something bat-like a werewolf (I like werewolves)? Or a vampire with a Fly power (instead of the silly one-winged vampire). Or maybe, while you're at this site, something like a Tyrant, or inovative Giant, or some awesome Maneater?
See, ideas all around.
Ghworg13 Apr 2008
Awesome Skink, and the Strigoi Vamp on your CD blog is stunning. Also, in the inspiration category of things, you could make reptilian centaurs counting as Cold One Riders seeing as you have such great success with Bull Centaurs!

Ahhhhh yes the vargulf...i'd forgotten completely about that...i've always wanted to give one a go..., i would sculpt more kroxigor, AND Nakai, but i put so much effort into making one kroxigor, let alone 2 more, plus you need a hell of alot of putty..

Boss_Salvage14 Apr 2008
So good to see converted lizardmen, don't see that too much. Helps that yours are some rock solid conversions, great stuff all over. The quetzl saurus may be my fav, followed by the Nikai and your krox. Excellent work throughout though
- Salvage
WarplockMonkey14 Apr 2008
Boss_Salvage: Yeah, it's a dire shame that you don't see more Lizardmen conversions, as a miniature range they don't have too much converting potential, but with a little imagination it can be done!
It does help that you can sculpt at least a little bit, there are many great ideas out there but very little people have the expertise or the drive to do them. IMO, if done well, on the table a well painted or converted Lizardmen army is a sight to behold!
I just hope one day i'll be able to make an army, i'm one of those sort of people who concentrate on one or a few models at a time, i have never done an entire army before!
My goal is to do a heavily converted 500 pt force, i have my character (may do another saurus), i am working on my unit of quetzil saurus (test-paintwork started on a few), i suppose ill have to do some skinks (i have never liked large batches of models )...any veteran Lizzie players out there that could give me advice on an army list?
Also, it is strange how so many people like one of my first models (Nakai), i suppose one day, if i have the time, motavation and putty, ill re-sculpt a new one, and see what difference a few months of practice has done!
Once again thanks for the support, in this short time this website has by far given the most feedback,i hope you will be so encouraging with my future work!!
Stay tuned space fans!

Sorry for the long wait me lavleys...
Here is my Scar Veteran of Quetzil, Boq-Gar, entirely sculpted from scratch!
To stand him out as the leader, i have made him larger than a normal saurus ,i'm a firm beleiver of the orc rule 'He who iz bigga den dem ova buggers getz tah boss 'em around' or in the case of Chaos Dwarfs, he who has the biggest hat
Also, i've given him more scales, to show hes the Spawning of Quetzil, and his left eye is missing, to show he's a grizzled old veteran..
I consider this one of my best yet, and the pics REALLY dont do it justice!

Howdy-Ho!
Well guys, i shall start with the bad news...
The paintjob on the saurus went TERRIBLY, so i decided to soak it in some paint stripper to get all of it off...
Unfortuneatly it melted the entire model!
However, the good news is, i've got some more do-lallies for y'all!
Firstly my new slann, i am VERY impressed with this model, i think it's my cleanest sculpt yet!
My next is a Nurgle herald i'm doing for a 'customer', its just about finished though methinks it needs something...any ideas?
And last but not least, a few months ago i bought some poorly POORLY converted and painted bull centaurs off ebay for something like 99p, they were basically toy cows, with roughly hacked 2nd edition dwarf bodies blu-tacked onto where the neck used to be on the bull, and painted by someone who has the skill of a four year old...yout hink im joking? One of them had green skin on the dwarf, and yellow spots!
Well, i worked the old 'Warplock' magic on one of them, and came up with this guy!
I've had this guy done for a few months now, just never got round to taking any piccy-atures
So waddya think?

Good job on the saurus. I also like the tiki mask slaan, but I think it is a little skinny. On the Herald, the face could use more definition. At the moment it is a little messy and hard to make out what exactly is going on. But over all it is a good sculpt, and I would be pleased with it. On the bull centaur, the body is waaay to long/big for that tiny dwarf torso.

The hook is now even more crooked, and i've hadto replace the second section down of whip with some chain off a black orc banner, i've also added some spikes to his gauntlett, and a brace to keep his hook in place (happy now Randroid?)
Paintwork shall start as soon as i pluck up a bit of courage (i REALLY don't wanto mess it up!)
Next projects are a tester hob-goblin for my warband based on a plastic plague monk, and a commision i'm doing for a friend, a bit fat Clan Pestilans dude

I think the body of a rat actually fits the Hobgoblin rather well. I like this over the original ones alot.
Maybe a small thing but on the pictures it looks like the hand holding the bannerpole isn't really holding it but rather resting the banner against his wrist. Maybe he need to be holding it as in having his thumb on the other side.
But this is just a really, really small thing

The hobgoblin's alright, but what I would have done is cut the feet off the plague monk body and make the legs slightly longer- you know, so you can see them a bit. I think this would add to his "hobness", because to me, apart from the hobgoblin hood, he looks like a night goblin.

I like the new slaver. The chain in the whip makes the whip look more Mordheimy, like it got split and had to be repaired but there was no leather on hand. Likewise, the new spikes and the revamped hook look better. Also I like the hobgoblin, but it really just looks like a night gobbo. And what rules are you using for the CD warband?

Going into the profession of Music theatre and studying that at the moment - the thing that interests me most (though I regret to say so) is the school musical you are in and the lead role you are playing and even more so how you are finding it?
On a side note - glad to see this resurrected i was starting to wonder what had happened to this gnoblog! The Jabberclyth (?) looks great so far!

The musical we did was "Sugar", a musical adaption of the feature film Some Like It Hot, I played Jerry/Daphne, one of the two main male protagonists if you havnt watched the film. I REALLY enjoyed it, it was the first time iv been on stage, but i loved every minute of it, even if it did mean i had to shave off my beard and wear high heels
Everyone who saw it absolutely loved it... iv been stopped in the street in my local town a few times, and had many many hollers of "Orite Daphne, get your t*ts out! Wheyyyyyy" haha!

Jabberslythe = Basically the new replacement in the Rare Choices section for the Shaggoth. It is a linebreaker, and follows the trend of all the latest releases... Dull to say the least. Abomination or Hydra anyone?! The only difference is his fluff is a little interesting. Some faceless horror that embodies the Beastmen desire to burn all civilisation...

I like the LoC but the wings look ... small. Kind of accentuates his big chicken-ness.
The Abom is looking pretty gross but I think it needs more texture on the front belly and the tail. Did they send you any Rat Ogre bits? The fluff claims they work the best when building the thing so it would be cool to see some of those parts hanging out.

Belchfist - The Hellpit Abomination is a creature in the Skaven rulebook - a huge mutated creature, fashioned from the various parts of lots and lots of other nasty beasties, with a bit more gribbly thrown in. I havnt read the rules yet, but its basically nigh unkillable...

This looks honestly brilliant - and will be a far more imposing sight on thebattlefield than the other beastlords, will it be nurgle themed in any way (or is he just portly? )

Loving those horns, and the tuft of hair/beard coming from his chin, really give him the status he would need to lead the Beasts to war!

Again, just impressed by the sheer talent. The pose is great, just a little distracted by legs... for example the 4th pic down (Model's right hand side) they seem a little collapsed under his weight. Looking forward to the finnished piece.
Chugger - Well, he IS rather heavy, so theres going to be some compression on the old hoovies
And I have seen some stuff from that guy... a long while ago now... and even now, i still have a long long way to get as good as him Practice makes perfect though, and i sojourn on
Anyway, the Beasty Baby is just about finished:

Hey man, great work, keep meaning to comment but never quite seem to get to it as often as i should
Only criticism of the beastlorsd i have is the legs look a little stumpy and the gut a little too pronounced... but, the overall look is still amazing and the quality is fantastic, keep it up
Took me 2 weeks to realise i have a trade gnoblar, Squinky ->

Looks great. Can't wait to see it with some basecoat on it just to really see the definition - not half as much as I can't wait to see it painted though warplock!
Perhaps it is missing a tiny bit of armour/ The beastlords tend to have a little armour or chainmail...

Good to see that after my over-a-year-hiatus there are some things that haven't changed. I've been shaking my head in disbelieve at your models for the past 30 or so pages I've missed, you're still as awesome as you were.
Very nice, I applaud you.
WarplockMonkey23 Mar 2010
Slash - Glad to have you back man! And thankyou for the praise!
Anyway, not much to really show here, just the start of my latest commission, Kholec Suneater

An interesting start. I hadn't nailed down my own imagined image of Kholek in my mind yet, so the large jutting teeth seem a little extreme to my mind's eye but I'm sure you'll come up with the goods! 7- pages and not a failure yet haha! Will he be armoured as the artwork in the rulebook suggests?

I'm with Belchfist, i'm not too sure about the teeth yet but have confidence that you know where you're going with it, love the rules/artwork/background enough for Kholek that i'm stoked to see a model get sculpted

WarplockMonkey27 Mar 2010
Hey guys!
Thing is.. i didnt actually know there WAS a piece of artwork to go with the character... so you can imagine how p*ssed i was to find it was nothing at all like the model I was making Hahaha... ahh well, iv tried to salvage it, and here is what iv got so far:
I'd imagined him more like a massive, knarled version of the GW dragon ogres... not TOO much armour, but with lots of thick scales and hide and such... but after looking at the artwork... I dont think it would suit the model if it was covered head to foot in armour... where would a 50 foot tall creature, alive since the beginning of time, manage to get a full suit of armour anyway? The guy im doing it for has given me quite alot of freedom with the sculpt (Thank Sotek ) so hopefully he should like it
I also have something a little bit different to show you...
Its my A level Fine Art exam in a month and a bit, and we have hadto pick a topic from a list set by the exam board to base a portfolio on, and eventually a final piece. Seeing a possible opportunity to include some of my sculpting, i decided on a topic called "Altering the Scale". For this, I decided to make a miniature based on the idea of a tiny gnome-like character living in a normal-sized world. This is what i have so far:
Still alot of work to do, but I hope you like it so far
Thanks!

It's great as always to see your stuff Warplock Monkey. I love the Gnome rat rider!
Belchfist Beastkiller31 Mar 2010
That gnome rat rider (tm for speedygogo) is aaaaawesome! Can't wait to see what you do with the gnome itself! Definite win for your art module. That's the final piece you say yes?
On the Kholek front - If you've been given the freedom to do as you will with it (thumbs up for Sotek) I would ignore the artwork completely - go for the different approach you had in your head, as any attempt to 'salvage' it as you mentioned by bringing what you had in line with the artwork will most likely have devastating thematic consequences resulting in one of those pieces where it looks like it was made by two people and they disagreed! I know you would manage it, but go with your imagination - it's pretty darn good in general

Belchfist - Aye aye, its my final piece... i still haveto finish it, AND paint it... and i havnt actually done much for the 'work up' as i basically knew what i was doing from the start
Anyway guys, not much of an update I'm afraid... i need various gubbins and such to complete the model... so im going to postpone it 'till i get the parts from the bloke
Thanks!

Hey guys!
The Shaggoth has been put on hold due to pieces from the bloke not arriving yet... I have been working on something else... but thats a secret
But here is something to keep you going... another commission: the start of a Slaanesh Warshrine
I know you cant really see it, but the 'zombies' i have 'de-zombifyied' so that they look like impaled slaves pulling the shrine onwards

Work has carried on with the warshrine, but nothing really picture-worthy yet...
But here is a little something that im working on... a little experiment...
The start of a Warplock Monkey! Its nowhere near finished, but its just a quick model im doing so i can practice casting... so nothing serious

Right, positive first... I love the Warplock. Instantly recognisable as to what it was Truly awesome. I can imagine a few people actually being interested in one of those Experiment or not...
Now, sadly, negative; I really don't like Kholek. He is too scrawny for a Shaggoth. He looks rather comical in facial terms. Lastly, he is meant to be an absolute behemoth; dwarfing even the most large of regular shaggoths. He is the sire of the entire Dragon Ogre race. I may be wrong, but yours isn't all too big to be honest.

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.
And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.

You are insane by the way (at sculpting and what not ), but just suggesting Vampire counts conversions? I realize your already busy, but with no model for the Abysmal Terror and such, I believe that would be an excellent job for you. Can't wait for Nurgle Shrine either, looks great
