2000 point army list with maneaters

original thread ↗

In my recent spate of trying out my lesser-used unti again, i built this list, of which I really like the symmetry possible with the deployment.  It's disruption light, but harder in combat.

1   Tyrant
   luck gnoblar
   heavy armour
   brace of handguns
   tenderiser
   wyrdstone necklace
   longstrider

1   Butcher
   dispel scroll
   bangstick

1   Butcher
   dispel scroll
   dispel scroll

1   Butcher
   skullmantle
   seigebreaker

3   Bulls
   bellower

3   Bulls
   bellower

3   Ironguts

3   Ironguts

9   Trappers

3   Yhetees

3   Yhetees

2   Maneaters
   heavy armour
   brace of handguns

the maneaters are joined by a butcher and the tyrant, are flanked by the bulls units, which are flanked by the ironguts with the other butchers in them, which are flanked by the yhetees, with the trappers running interference.

something a little different :)

Hmm, I had to look, but now I know what I don't like about it:
I think 2 maneaters is too little.
as long as they exist nobody will panic, but if they are gone...

Why not drop one unit of yhetees and get another maneater and 2 leadbelchers for it?
(Bet I'll hear now, where my errors in thinking are.)

Now all we need is the 7th edition rule that said if the models are killed they don't get to fight and we WOULD be a broken army! lol

yep! :)

the 2 maneaters, with the tyrant and the butcher are a 4-wide unit that still takes 6 wounds to force a panic check - and with the addition of a bullgorger is capable of 5 S8, 10 S6 and 3 S5 attacks in combat, and it then stubborn :)

making the maneaters bigger make it more than a bodyguard unit for the tyrant and his butcher pal.  This is a hammer unit of the first order.  The 3 brace of handguns in the unit can come in handy to as this unit won't be marching first turn, but setting up for a counter charge while the bulls on either flank of it race forwards.

My usual setup sees me use a single bull unit, 3 irongut untis and the 2 yhetees.  this is 1 bait unit, 3 hammers and 2 bait/hammer flanking units.

This version has 2 bait units (the bulls), 3 hammer units (2 IG and the maneaters) and 2 bait/hammer units (the yhetees) - allowing me more tactical flexability and a better chance of setting up a counter charge.

To do this, I lose the pinning ability of the gorgers :(  so it'll ahve to be tested to see if this works better.  Certainly it will be a little more relaible as I'm not dependent on those gorger rolls either.

I can't see a unit of leadbelcehrs helping this unless its guarding the rear from flyers...

I thought so, but I'm not letting go... yet! :P

With three maneaters you'll even have more chance of not making a panic test and especially against dwarves and empire (both notorious for their multiwound warmachines) it'll take your opponent longer to get rid of the unit.
though I understand your way of distributing wounds.

The advantage with 3 maneaters is that you'll have a longer period of being able to have bull charge or be able to break a unit and with just two characters it's more of a coin flip.

I've been playing one time against a RAF with Khorne and I really missed a shooting unit.
Also last tournament the leadbelchers seem to lose and only have one model standing, than panicking half of my army.
They served the roll of bait, sacrifice and shoot at small threats unit very good.

Tenacious Lexy!  :)  The bulls will be screening the maneater unit from the flanks when they move forward their 12" - and can even be deployed in front of the maneaters if I fear not getting the first turn.  This should protect them long enough.  I don't intend marching the maneater unit right at an organ gun :)

The butcher in the unit will be charged with getting trollguts off - then replacing it with bullgorger when the unit makes a successful charge.  The extra maneater would be good, but not worth giving up yhetees to get as they have even more uses in this army.  If I lose a maneater getting across the board, but arrive with my bullgorger in place, I still have:

5 S8 attacks from the tyrant
5 S6 attacks from the maneater
3 S5 attacks from the butcher

that's only 1 less attack that a tyrant, butcher and 2 ironguts would have - and the maneater attacks at a higher weapon skill.  Basically the same as my usual tyrant hammer.  If I get across the field intact, then I have a super-hammer to hit them with :)

going to 3 maneaters would garuntee the super-hammer, but would cost me tactical flexability and the ability to co-ordinate units...

Okay, I see your point, but I still would do it differently (shows that great minds don't always think alike ;))

You've given me a new boost for getting some maneaters done.

no problem at all :)

I tried this army tonight and was plesantly suprised.  the maneaters were joined by the tyrant and a butcher and got the bullgorger on them.  they got the charge on a unit of 10 inner circle knights led by a hero (the general) and beat them (the general losing in a challenge to the tyrant) - they then got charged by a unit of 10 other knights in the front (having not overrun far enough running down the inner circle), lost 1 maneater and still won the combat - running that unit down too.  I also got a round of shooting off and a stand and shoot reaction - all to some effect in the game.

I did miss my gorgers when the pair of cannons was busy sniping 2 of my butchers, but I only lost them and one maneater all game :)

I'll try this setup again :)

Hi Wildcard!

Im so glad you posted this list... ive been playing with ur standard list for the past two weeks with much greater success...

Maneaters were the always my favorate models and look the most intresting im glad to see that this list might actually be competitive too! (btw my gorgers hate me they almost always show up on turn 4 and 5)

Anyway im getting ready for an Aussie Tournament cominging up called the Levithan first day is 3 games of 2250points army and second day 2 games of 2500pts army.

I would very much like to take this setup u have here...

But i need some suggestions as to what u think would be the best options? for +250pts and +500pts

Of the models i have to make up these poins are

2 maneaters

3 Ironguts

2 Leadbelchers

2 Leadbelchers

21 Gnoblar fighters

+1 - 5 Trappers (to exisiting unit)

1 Slave Giant (They seem to be crappy too bad we cant take the dogs of war giant)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...
for the plus 250 I'd be wanting to add in the 2 pairs of leadbelchers with bellowers - that's be a real nice touch for the force.

for the +500 I'd definatly have another maneater into the bodyguard unit to make it a little more survivable.  I'd keep the 2 pairs of belchers and with the remaining 170 points I can't see much wrong with having the 3 more ironguts and maybe using the other points for upgrades :)

Thanx for that   :D :D :D

Innitialy i was thinking for 2500 to go for 2 units of 2 maneaters but i think ur right

x2 units of 2 Leadbelcher (bellowers)

+1 maneater to current unit

x3 Ironguts

with the 26 pts left over ill give both units of  bulls additionhand weapons for a total of 24pts
yep - that's what I'd do with those extra points too :)

good luck and let me know ow it goes :)
