Magrut's Ogres

original thread ↗

Okay, after a year or so of not playing I will finally get this army finished. Today I finished the first ogre model, the others are on their way!

Here he his, a plain old simple Ogre Bull

I have LOADS of models to paint so expect a lot of pics ;)

Hey!

Thanks a bunch! Yeah, I do like the blueish, Shadow Grey is probably my favourite colour along with Dark Angels Green :)

More pics will come of the others when they are done, I seem to be missing some colours so can't finish them until tomorrow when I have a trip to GW Gothenburg 8)

Not bad, not bad at all. The extreme highlighting on his pants makes his pants look like they're glowing, and the skin also has a little lumenescense.

If by RAW, you mean "Reg06's Audacious Whims", then you'd be right.

I am liking this paintjob a lot. Keep the models coming!

That's very cool, really stands out with the skin and electric pants

Possibly the one thing I don't like is how he's offset on his base, but that's pretty much nothing (and maybe somebody BIG stands next to him and needs space) ;)

Thanks! :)

Actually I don't know why he's glued like that? Maybe I dropped on of his shoes with glue on it and I just didn't want to get rid of it (I have really strong glue from Saab) so I guess I just pressed it there, haha :D
It looks alright when next to the others though ;)

Another few days have passed and here is my WIP Ogre Bull unit, I use two of these at 1000 points and three of them at 2000. I prefer Bulls before Ironguts as I value more attacks before high strength.
More pics will come when they're finished :)

They look very nice.?
great weapon is in statistics better then extra handweapon, but sometimes I like bulls models better.

Now all we need is the 7th edition rule that said if the models are killed they don't get to fight and we WOULD be a broken army! lol

It may be, but considering 8 points more per model, and the £10 extra to buy the same amount of models, I still prefer these. Or maybe the reason I prefer these is that I have 12 of them and no Ironguts :P

These are the models I plan to finish within a few weeks, and this is the current armylist I use against my friends Vampire Counts and Night Goblins. Any suggestions on what to add/change for the remaining 30 points?

Bruiser Magrut - 174
Heavy Armour
Mawseeker
Jade Lion

4 Ogre Bulls
- 190
Ironfists
Bellower
Standard Bearer

4 Ogre Bulls
- 190
Ironfists
Bellower
Standard Bearer

2 Leadbelchers
- 120
Bellower

2 Leadbelchers
- 120
Bellower

Slavegiant - 175

Total: 969

I know not a lot of people don't like the use of Slavegiants but I know nothing in the world of Warhammer that is as much fun to play with. My Giant almost always makes it into combat and is really great fun once he gets in there, "jump up and down" has to be a favourite :)
Leadbelchers always cause a great deal of damage, sadly can't fire twice in a row but I usually either charge with them or keep them stationary for a turn to reload. I was thinking about removing them and adding yhetees and trappers instead, what do you guys think of that?

Cheers!

The skintone is nice and orginal, but in my opinion, the green of the pants don't really fit with the blue of the skin. It clashes to much.

About the list, I guess I would drop the bellowers from the leadbelcher units, and have only a unit of 3 instead of 2 units of 2 and have some gnoblar trappers and if you can spare the points, also a 20 strong unit of gnoblar fighers.
- The trappers are excellent for confusing the enemy line and prevent them from  marching (so that your ogre units can get a bull charge)
- The fighers are there either for defending a flank, claim a table quarter or go after smallish missle fire units
- I prefer to have leadbelchers in units of 3. If you plan to use these for charging, you can have bull charge with 3.

I agree with your point on the slave giant. He is fun to have around  :D

BigD
- 5 fighters and 1 trapper; the beginning of a vast gnoblar army. A gnoblar revolutions is at hand!
I would say, you should try to have at least one unit of Ironguts in there. Also, your Bruiser could do with either a great weapon or a cathayan longsword.

Nice unit, looking good and bashy all together :D

One thing though, only the leftmost ogre has any brass on his gutplate and ironfist.  I'd consider dropping the brass entirely and painting over his brass elements, or adding some brass to the plates / fists of the other bulls.  Oddly enough, my ogres have boltgun + brass plates themselves ...  But in your case I'd suggest dropping the brass entirely and redoing the first dude.

On your list, way to be original!  Very cool as is, but could use to lose 2 leadbelchers and gain some hitty power.  I would suggest pushing in 3 ironguts for the high strength beatings, and would be fun to model too, get to make your blue bulls but with extra smashiness.  Here's my tweaks:

Bruiser - mawseeker, jade lion, great weapon = 178
4 Bulls - ironfists, standard, bellower = 190
4 Bulls - ironfists, standard, bellower = 190
3 Ironguts = 144
2 Leadbelchers - bellower = 120
Slave Giant = 175
------
997 points

I like this a lot myself, could give it a try once I get some more stuff painted ;)

GW on the bruiser makes him much scarier to knights or chariots or whatever, and dropping the armor is fine with the T6 on him.  The guts are there to obliterate things and generally do your heavy lifting, and you really only need 1 unit of 2 belchers in 1000, to run up + shoot, then flee and rally/reload the next turn, then repeat.

On an unrelated note, can I ask how you get such a crisp white background on your photos? Are you magic-wanding in photoshop?
Thanks a bunch guys! Great to get comments and tips on lists :D
I will most likely take you advice with using Ironguts and only 2 Leadbelchers. I am going off to get two battalions later this month as I need everything in them, and one can never get too many bulls :D
Painting has been standing still for about a week or so but more pics will come when I get it done!

Cheers!

I photograph against a white base and background then make it whiter in photoshop so that the models stand out more.
