Tribe of the Dragon's Mountain (a little update 19.11.11.)

Along with Agonel's horde (which is hybernating at the moment) I'll be making a heavily converted ogre army.
When you see the first model, you'll get the picture of where I'm going with the theme.

My greystuffing skills aren't too great, but I'll get better. Anyways, I present to you :

Irongut Bellower (who used to represent the tyrant):

Now for real: I had to look a few times to see if there was a GW ogre used.
Especially with the confrontation picture underneath.

Are there maw symbols on the pants? it looks great.
I really like your painting it looks very real ( not like my more comical painting.)

You, my friend, are taking a shot at legendary status here.

Ogre conversions with orc heads = instant win in my book.  The man looks rock solid, from his blue fu manchu down to his lil' booty feet.

Now I want to see the khan's underlings.

The bellower looks really cool, and his ironfist is awesome. The loin clothe appears to have fingerprints in it, or are is that a pattern you put there purposefully?

The fingerprint on the loincloth was not put there on purposely, but I thought I could leave it cause it would look like rough cloth when painted. So, the answer to your question,Reg06, is BOTH.

I've made an armylist for 2250 points. The tyrant model I've made will be degraded into an irongut bellower. I'm thinking about a better model with an apropriate Tenderizer to represent the mighty Őrüg-Khan. You've given up alot of other choices for 5 scrolls...which is way over the top imho.  Hellheart, cookbook, thiefstones and skullmantle are all good choices and far more flavorfull.  Also far less likely to make your army take a comp hit tourneywise.  Otherwise pretty solid list.

Those enemy hands should go really well with the floral print.

Hmmm, I agree with Talonz. Five dispell scrolls is a bit over the top. Also, I noticed in my own games that 2 is a bit too small a unit size for leadbelchers. With another model, they have enough numbers to get that importent bull charge. But besides that, it looks like a good list.

Btw, I've converted a butcher out of a bull yesterday. Pics when painted.
Those spiritual leaders this tribe are mutated because of the powerful gut magic they use. Their deformity is a consequence of minor miscasts in the past. I should start writing some more fluff these days...

Where are you going to use the luck gnoblars on your butchers for?
They don't work at any dice you know?

For trying to prevent them being killed by the enemy. If they're gonna die, it should at least be by their own miscast. 
I don't have much experience in gaming. Are you trying to say the luck gnobbos are no good?

They help for rerolling saves, but not for other things as I recall.
As they don't have saves, the items are useless, though very fluffy

SHAMANS (BUTCHERS)
Ulgchi, Urus & Gaikhatu are shamans, spiritual leaders of the Tribe. They are a disturbing sight to behold- their bodies mutated and bloated as a result of wielding raw and primitive magic.
They brew potions which enhance stamina, resillience or have healing effects.

THE BAHADUR (IRONGUTS WITH BANNER)
They serve as the Khan's personal bodyguards. They collect hands of their enemies, wich they display as trophies on their banner and which they nail onto their plate armor and shields.

THE KASHIK (BULLS)
are young, aspiring warriors who haven't yet earned the true warrior status.

BLACKPOWDER ENGINEERS (LEADBELCHERS)
have stolen the technology of blackpowder weaponry from the Cathayans. In battle they succesfully wield great cannons.

Great sounding fluff. I like the twist you've put on the butchers, and the ironguts should prove to be awesome looking.

NUMAI- RONIN (MANEATER)
served in the Nippon for 30 years as a dog of war, thus being assimilated in their culture. He is hardened and scarred veteran feared by most of the other tribesmen.

WARRIORS (IRONGUTS)
are the core of the horde. Hardened fighters clad in traditional leather armor enforced with small metal plates.
They wield brutal great weapons, and after imbibing the potions of blood, honey and mountain herbs prepared by the tribal shamans, they become even more fierce and dangerous.

I haven't thought of anything about yhetees. Not sure what minis I'm going to use for them nor any fluff. Any suggestions?

Now, some fluff about the race:

ABOUT GREAT ORCS:

Grear orcs are brutal, ogre-sized creatures, more dangerous even than the biggest black orcs. Judging by their phisical build they may seem slow and massive, but as soon as you see one of them fight, you'll change your opinion. They are surprisingly agile and their stamina is incredible. Even without the shaman's potions, they are able to march for six days and nights with minimal rest and absolutely no sleep. That enables them to cross vast distances in a small amount of time. They are also far more disciplined than their smaller brethren and are less  likely to start fighting among each other.
With the Great Orc culture, the goblins coexist succesfully. Goblins usually dont fight, as they are not able to keep up with their large masters, but some of them work as fast cavalry using wolves as mounts. Such wolf riders also serve as scouts.

I love the great orc fluff, and it is only natural that there would be such. As greenskins fight they get bigger (and as far as I know they only stop growing once they die, though I believe I'm getting that mostly from orks, which are basically the same) and it only makes sense that eventually a strain would evolve to start out large.

These guys rock. Always nice to see Orcy-ogres! That butcher is actually a frightening prospect and I love the work on the Tyrant. Love the bone in his hand, and though I like the effect, why did you just cut off the bottom jaw? I like it don't get me wrong, but you could've perhaps cut off the front part and made it look like they were coming from his throat. I don't know i'm tired my brain hurts

Huh.   I really dont get why you would convert your butcher like that?  So far your theme seems to be mongol orcs, which is very cool.  And suddenly your butcher is this nurgly/cthulu like mutation?  Great conversion, just doesnt fit your theme at all I would think.

I absolutely love the butcher. I won't call myself an expert on Mongolian lore in any way, but I think  the model fits very well. Asian cultures have/had some very scary monsters, and this one is frightening. I think the model is perfect, and ears are an awesome touch.

By now I've finished Khidr(irongut bellower), Merg-Ghazan the Black Maul(irongut), Ulgchi(butcher) that makes 4 models finished (along with the first one who used to be the tyrant, but now is a bellower).
 2 tooth gnobbos are done too.
Isao Bearfist (irongut bellower) and Numai Ronin (maneater) are sculpted and are just being painted.
Two more ironguts are being converted.

Till I manage to make decent photos, here are some concept doodles:

Everything looks amazing. I'm glad you are using the old tyrant as a bellower, because as good as the model looks it just isn't tyrant material. After the butcher, my favorite is Khidir. But they are all excellent.

Nice spearstaff conversion, I just may nick that.

Cool conversions. I really like the irongut holding a caged gnoblar. The tuskson Khidir are also a nice touch. How long does it take for you to convert an ogre?

Other stuff I really like are the Butcher(disturbingly good in a weird way) and the Gnobbo named after your friend.

I like the concept art as much as the models and am interested if you are actually going to try and pull off an 'Engineer Leadbelcher'?

@ BigD: If I have the complete concept before I start converting, and I stick to it (like I did with Khidr), it takes me an hour or so, Note that I always have a handfull of those tiny armor plates finished and ready for conversions.   Without concept, it might take me several hours.
 
@ Fantasyfreak: Thanks for voting (haven't won any of those competitions, unfortunately). He's not a tyrant anymore, in case you've missed those news.
And, YES, I actually am going to try pull off those engineer leadbelchers.

Brilliant work Nightmare, you continue to put out my favorite ogres on the Internets.  Orcy ogres are the way to be, would have done all of mine that way if I had encountered the possibility when I began

The butcher is unhinged, and I like the direction on all the new stuff to come.  Glad you'll be making a suitably gigantic mongol tyrant in the future

The fig I intended to use as a tyrant at first, and which is now an irongut bellower, finally got a name: Öz Giantbreaker. As for the tyrant, Örüg-Khan, I'm working on a new mini:





I used greystuff to make him taller, and he'll have more detail than the ordinary troopers. 
I also gave him bigger tusks and a cute pet vulture. He's gonna carry his tenderizer in one hand, but I have no idea what to put in the other one.

Looks pretty impressive for an irongut.  A good bruiser perhaps?

Can't really say much other then SUPERB! Lovely theme, conversions, paintjobs, ideas...well, you name it!

These Orc-Ogres (that's what they look to me) reminds me of the Foundation..? not really sure of the manufacturer but they remind me of some orcs and those kicks *ss!

If that model is going to be your bellower, you might consider giving him an instrument (like a big horn or wardrums) since he doesn't look like he's bellowing much.

Right on Night, more great stuff.  Gut with the über-weapon is very sweet, the standard (right?) is nice and understated banner-wise (but the tatters get the point across IMO), and the tyrant is shaping up nicely.  I like everything thus far, but particularly his bigness, his tusks and his little bird

Look forward to his tenderizer, and for the other hand perhaps a fist holding some skulls by the hair?  Seems a fairly mongul thing to carry around.  An ironfist is another option.

Actually, that's not really a banner. It's just a decoration on the great weapon. The other guy in the same unit will have the same weapon and that same bannerlike thing on it, so the opponents don't mistake it for a real banner.

Well the old tyrant could make a good irongut champion then, or a hunter?

How did you do the vulture on the new tyrant?

Other hand could be a fistful of laurels in case you take the item.

Orc heads work very well in place of normal ogre heads. Just imagine the pea-sized brains inside .
I wonder what an orc head on a giant would look like. Any chance of making that happen? You could just cover the join with straggly hair made of GS.

Always cracks me up to check in and see new stuff of yours, especially after such a long time. I'm loving the freehands on the banner, the dragon looks great and smells of orcy somehow (perhaps the ears, hair and eyes?) although his moustache could use a bit of work - at first glance it looks like some weird horns or curved teeth. Perhaps erasing the line that seperates it and the upper lip could help. It is a moustache right?

The wolves look undescribably badass, especially the normal one. Where did you get it if I may ask?

The ordinary Bahadur looks schweet, especially diggging the little imprisoned goblins at the back. Priceless.

Brilliant, I love it all! If I had to nitpick I'd try to say that perhaps the banner bearer seems a little...empty on his right side. but honestly that's just being irritating for the sake of nothing at all.

Hello.

Green thugs with ogre-sized bodies and orc-sized brains are back!
There will be a new list, new color scheme, and all new models. The entire army is getting redone.

Let's start with the first 3 ironguts, shall we:




As you can see, their appearance has quite changed. Their skintone is much lighter. There's less armor than there used to be. I'm paying more attention to bits making sense on the models, instead of just throwing them on like I used to. There will be at least seven of them.

Coming next, a gorger:




Converted from the new plastic minotaur. The gorgers are represented by great orcs who have overdosed with the shaman's potions and turned to these deformed and brainless mountains of muscle. Hulk smaaash! There will be another one.

Yhetees were in my list before. Not sure whether I'll be using them now. They are the children of the Dragon these orcs are worshipping. Old river trolls were a great starting point for the conversion. Here's one of them (PIP):

 

Also, here's a goblin made from a skaven clanrat and a grot head. This is how I think goblins should look like. He might end up as a sword gnoblar.



I'm plannig to make a new tyrant, a BSB, SM , butcher, a unit of gnoblar fighters (30?), a scraplauncher, 2 gorgers, a medium sized unit of ironguts, two medium sized units of bulls, a small unit of leadbelchers, 3 Yhetees and some trappers. I'll be asking for help with armylists soon.
Now you can ask questions and tell me what you think about the new models. 

I really liked the old style, with the layers of bits. But these are still quite nice.
What's with the shoes though? You definitely have the skills to make an alternative to the iron soles if you decided they didn't work. Right now the feet just look off.

I liked your old stuff a lot BECASUE of the random stuff layered on!  I like that orky touch of "collect everything in case I needs 'et" thta thye had, and the dark, muted colour sceme gave them a gritty, girmdark sort of feel that I felt was the best part of them.

Thats not to say I don't like the new way as well, it's still amazing, but I'd say darken the skin down some more.

Good idea on the skaven gobbos.

They will probably all get iron soles. As for the gnoblar, I've decided to make all my gnoblar warriors and trappers out of clanrats and goblin heads. Wish me luck...

Thank you.   The gauntlets are heavily converted ironfists. I had to make them thinner and sculpt the fingers.

I sculpted the yhetee's head myself. The idea was to use the lion heads from the white lion chariot, but in the end it came out it was simpler to sculpt my own then buy them.
As for the fluff question, all I can say is: "How awesome is the Bellower? I can't wait for the next issue."

Oh yes please  The Alchemists of Dirz are my favourite team! I just got the starter set and the paint set and also some undead and guess what just ordered the Grande Crane that giant skeleton leader for the undead, i love confrontation

Is there any way to get some non painted pics of your clan rat/grot combo?

Oh yes please  The Alchemists of Dirz are my favourite team! I just got the starter set and the paint set and also some undead and guess what just ordered the Grande Crane that giant skeleton leader for the undead, i love confrontation 

Well, I dug up some old photos. Some are better, some worse. The same applies to the paintjob on the minis. They're old.

There's a beastman shield there, and given how large the section of scales shown must be (based on how much of the shield is visible), I don't think that is a gut plate (also the flat plate would be weird). There doesn't appear to be a curve to the scale area, so I don't think this is on a limb. So its a large flat area of hide (I'm guessing that the scales are the skin of the creature, not armor), with armor. Some sort of Rhinox? Could this be a cousin of the dragon from the mountian as a rhinox?

You're doing great. It's difficult because it's a little misleading. So here's some help. Let's see what you can find out from these two pictures:

There we go. Gutplate, and the green stuff, I'm betting, is musculature... probably a shoulder.
This leads me to believe that the final model is a hunter (because you might still intend to do one) or a tyrant, probably wearing a greyback pelt.

But I guess I'll find out pretty soon.

Your modelling, and painting, is great in all aspect. Even better than great, kind of fantastic in its own right. This Gnoblog is a great read, and I´m keeping my fingers crossed for it!

Anyhow, the mainreason why I created this account instead of looming around as a guest is more or less because of a couple of questions I would like to asky you (or anyone who might be able to answear them!)

1.) First one is about a certain deatil above this guys bum/behind. Those small Imp-ish creatures in small lanter-like cages... where did you get those?? Can´t say why, but they ...they ...they are spellbinding (@,@)



I also love all the work on your Ogres, and if I wasn´t sick of painting Orcs I would copy you right away! I´m epsecially fond of all the little stuff you got on your IronGuts. I know you´ve gone over to a style with less parts on it, but I thought I´d still tell you about it ^^

2.) Here´s the real 1000 pts question! These models are, according to me, perfect in every way to represent sabretusks (considering alternative cat-models is mostly /puke). Someone else asked you the same question and you gave them some info, but I didn´t get to ´em! I was kind of eyeing the wolves från Gamezone, but after seeing this I can´t settle for less!

Anything additional you (or anyone!) could possible tell me??

Ah, let's see... The mournfangs aren't awesome, but they're good enough. I've got a box of them. Their heads are the biggest problem for me, especially the tusks. They're hideuos and just wrong IMHO. So I've converted the head a bit. The saddle sort of has to be that high because of the way mournfangs' bodies are built. To prevent it looking too weird I put some cargo behind the saddle, and it looks ok now (to me at least). You'll see a few WIP pictures in my next post, so you can judge for yourself.
The thundertusk/stonehorn kit has some very cool bits in it. But I'm not all that crazy abouth either of the beasts themselves. The stonehorn looks undead/demonic, and doesn't fit into my vision of ogre kingdoms (or my great orcs). The thundertusk is much better, but still... something's not quite right. I guess I could make something cool of the kit if I bought it. But if that's ever going to happen it won't be soon.

They should be pretty difficult to come by these days. Unfortunately, it's the same with my wolves. The one on the left was converted from a Wolfen head and this, with some fur added:



The right wolf has behind it a story more complicated, which I will tell you via personal message. (It's a legality thing. )

The gnoblars are great.
I like your mournfang. The squatter, more bear-like face works much better for the body, and for the lore.
However, I think the head is a little short for the neck. It feels like it should be just a bit taller, maybe more of a beard and a thicker brow will be all that's necessary.
Also, in the picture from the right side of the orc the gap under the chin sticks out like a sore thumb.

Your Gnoblog is just ace. I'm relatively new on the Stronghold, so I never saw it before... Now there is so much awesome input to be found in here, I cannot even say what I like the most! 
The Far Seer is definately one of my favourites, but the Gnoblar conversions are great as well; so simple, yet so effective!

As a newcomer to the Stronghold may I just say how stunning your OK/orcs are...

Awe-inspiring and giving me lots of ideas to borrow - after all, they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! 

I would love to see what you can make of a Thundertusk, although I agree that there's something not quite right about those tusks and face...

@Reg06- Thanks. Don't worry about the rider, he's still in an early stage of conversion. It's quite probable he won't even keep this head. I haven't got a slightest idea of how he's gonna look in the end. I won't be doing any modifications on the mount's head, though. For me it works, and i like it. But I'm planning for the next one to have a much different head (a totally different species).

I have a couple of mournfangs incoming and I have to say your conversion looks mighty tempting! Have you done any greenstuffing on his face, or is it simply the fangs that has been shortened? O.o

EDIT: And the hobgnoblins are very cool aswell! Have a friend on the brink of starting up a Chaos Dwarf army, and I´m showing this to him to push him

This is an inspirational work!  I have several of the rackham orcs that seem to inspired this effort (assumed from page 1 reference), and I love them fiercely.  Especially the warriors of the wind.

My favorite piece, however, is your child of the dragon.  That yhetti is beyond awesome!

@Omaeshin- Thanks! Yes, the face of the mournfang has been greenstuffed. The entire muzzle has been resculpted, and the front teeth too. Also, I added the nose-ring, for extra badass look.
I just want to mention this, since you can't see it in the pictures: Its ears are pierced and it will have thin rope tied through the holes in the ears and going up into the ogre's hand. That's how he steers the beast. Must be painful. 

@anvalous- Thank you! Yup, the Rackham orcs were my initial inspiration. They are awesome.
