Hi all, starting another 1 and a half armies and have decided to put them all together in one big blog, mainly to keep me inspired, get new ideas and to make sure i spend the right amount of time (and money!) on each of them.

i do have long school hours, though so my aim is to update this blog once a month with at least one, preferably two updates.

Death Guard
Re-painting all my CSM to this scheme. They will be in pre heresy colours, looking dirtier and dirtier as they get more alinged to nurgle.

however the new half part to it is loyalist marines. many of these will use old MkIV armour, from forgeworld or the collectors range. they will be painted in the same way and will be either preheresy or post heresy loyalists led by Garro in an Inquisitorial dreadnought( or a converted grey knight termie if prehersy) these will be mixed into my chaos marines to provide extra men or diversity and options.

all my fluff is pretty sorted out, check wikipedia or something. the only extra bit is for post heresy loyalists. they are led by Garro (posibly in a dreadnought) who remained loyal to the emporer as his legion fell. after the drop site massacre he went off and supposedly founded the Inquision, along with other loyal marines from heretical legions. Presumably he has died in the course of 10,000 years and has been placed in a dreadnought, who fights for his remaining loyal marines as well as deamonhunters. as such i'll probably have to have him in the form of a master, venerable dreadnought and inquistor along with his retinue.

overall i'm working towards a deathguard centuary, 20 termies, 60 marines, 20 devs/havocs.

Things to do:
1) Repaint everything!
2) get some loyalists (and convert them)
3) keep updates coming.

Nidzilla

This is my completely new army. I've been on the verge of colecting them since i started and have finally given in due to my love of the carnifex models. Therefore i decided to collect an army of almost entirely of them! Although it's very beardy i'm not doing it to win, i just love the models. Most of them will be magnetized, but most of the time it will follow the normal Nidzilla list (hive tyrant, flyrant, 3 dakka fexes, 3 sniper fexes) with the occasional close combat list thrown in.

My fluff needs work, however. Please help me fill in the blanks! i'll list my ideas below

Splinter fleet (1)_____ of hive fleet leviathan was part of one branch of the force. most of it was planetside when the imperium inflicted exterminatus on (2)________ however some rippers had buried them selves under ground and members of the carnifex genus were able to survive the action (see codex: tyranids on the two way nids have survived exterminatus ) and repair themselves. A couple of hive ship survived as well as their cargo on board. these manage to salvage the tyrants, carnifexes and rippers that had since destroyed (2)______ Thus the larger nids had survived and such were in a much greater ratio with the griblies.

my only idea for (1) is Deinos, greek for terrible. however all the other fleets have had english names for old monsters, so it doesn't really fit.

the idea is to explain why such a large amount of my army is big, but still have a decent amount of griblies for larger games.

another thing is my paint sceme. im divided between white, black and green:

and grey, blue and blue or grey green and green (the second blue/green being a lighter trim)
ive just spayed a few guants to test out my schemes on, so hopefull i should be able to decide!

Things to do:
1)get more fexes!
2) magnatize them
3) get a paint scheme

For the Nids, I think you'd be better going with the name of a mythological creature/monster in the same manner of the other hive fleets (e.g. Scylla, Charybdis, hydra, wyrm etc).

As it is a Nidzilla army, perhaps you should go with names of mythological giants. Examples off the top of my head are Hive Fleet Polyphemus (the cyclops Odysseus encounters), Hive Fleet Ymir (the first Ice Giant in Norse myth) or maybe Hive Fleet Surtr (he chief Fire Giant in Norse myth). Alternatively on the theme of norse myth, you could go for a non-monster alternative: Hive Fleet Ragnarok.

thanks guys, ill probably go with a mix, but i can't find one! the other fleets dont sound partictularly greek, or norse but i'd like a name of a big gaint-like creature, maybe titan?

nearly finished my tests, pics tomorrow probably, if not then this weekend.
for my fex, as i'm magnetizing it, how do i spray it? the magnets are easily strongenough to work through the paint, but im not sure whether to attach them before or after spraying, or maybe assemble it then spray it? on a side note, is their any trick to white spray? when i used it, it seemed very liquidy, even after shaking it for 15 minutes! any tips?

It's a shame you don't have pre-heresy armor to match the pre-heresy scheme.

Depends how into the fluff you are I suppose. New MK armor was issued after the heresy, so any pre-heresy schemes wouldn't be on the new MK armor. The only army that would have both, most likely, is the Space Wolve's 13th Legion.

the three famous tyranid fleets are all named after sea creatures from greek/atlantean mythology. Leviathan is a giant sea snake thing, like an eel or dragon without wings, kraken was a giant squid and behemoth was some sort of shelled crustacean like thing.... you could always go down that line, as corai suggested Scylla and Charybdis are both from Homers Odyessy being a 6 headed female monster and a whirlpool respectively.

there is a pattern emerging in all of these, sea/ocean going monsters. Others include...

    * The Aspidochelone, a giant turtle or whale that appeared to be an island, and lured sailors to their doom
    * Coinchenn, from whose bone the Gae Bulg is made in Celtic mythology
    * Curruid, the sea monster who killed the Coinchenn
    * Iku-Turso
    * Jörmungandr, the Norse Midgard Serpent.
    * Proteus
    * Yacumama, South America

as for Power Armour Mks... you have

Mk I Power Armour: Thunder Armour.
Mk II Power Armour: Crusade Armour. -  used extensively during the great crusade and into the heresy
Mk III Power Armour: Iron Armour. - also known as siege armour and a precursor to "terminator" tactical dreadnought armour.
Mk IV Power Armour: Maximus Armour. -  Most widespread armour variant just prior to the heresy
Mk V Power Armour: Heresy Armour.    -  Just began entering service during the heresy, heavily favoured by the traitors due to the forgeworlds that produced it turning traitor
Mk VI Power Armour: Corvus Armour.
Mk VII Power Armour: Eagle Armour.
Mk VIII Power Armour: Errant Armour.

any of the mks from 2 to 5 would be acceptable for use in a pre heresy army, depending on your fluff time frame. if its close to the beginning of the heresy i.e. istvaan  (deathguard were present) then any of the four are good to use but especially MK IV, but if you want to keep to a strict fluff then the further you get away from the beginning of the heresy then the less you should use the later marks. 2 and 3 would be best.

thanks syc, yeah it might not be strictly pre-heresy, too much money! just the Mk IV FW armour because it looks so cool! probably corvus mainly with a bit of aquila and the occasional errant for sergeants.

Plenty of Greek Titans to choose a name from! Two possibilities are Cronus and Hyperion. Alternatively you could take the names of Greek Giants, for example, Porphyrion, Ephialtes or Mimas.

thanks syc, i've already got my magnets (they're really cool!) but the problem in i dont know whether to skick on the magnets before i spray it as i dont know if this could damage the magnet in some way. however if i skuck them on afterwards the metal would really stand out...

Ah i see the dillema... are they thick magnets? or like sheets of paper? round or square? If you have access to a rotary tool or such like then you could drill out holes for the magnets in the carnifexes arms and arm sockets, effectively hiding the magnets from view...

Why not test the paint thing....paint is easy to get rid of on the metal of magnets as you can scrape it off with a sharp knife, so why not spray 2 of them, see if they stick to gether after the spraypaint is on and then compare the magnetised strength to unsprayed ones....(id assume and hope thered be very little or no difference at all.)

Im working off the top of my head and on 3 hours sleep as some idiot broke my bed while we were playing Gears of war and i have to sleep at a 45 degree angle because my bed has no bottom legs, just one at the head, (you get the picture....) so excuse me if these ideas sound completely wacko!

I know the feeling- a friend of mine put his hand through a dresser because of that game...

Anyways, in terms of naming your Hive Fleet, go with some sea monster, or at least mythological monster/giant. I like Norse mythology, so I'd chose a name from there, but for you I suggest just picking your favorite mythos and finding something from there. A name I do like is Tiamat (The Babylonian goddess of the sea, often depicted as a sea serpent or dragon), which has a nice ring to it- Hive Fleet Tiamat.

cool thanks guys. there would be test pics but i only finished them this evening and now there is no light... so pics sometime next week.  I am also going to try leviathen, but those tests will have to wait until i can get liche purple.

got some things sprayed, so maybe ill get a marine or two done. anyone know where to get those pens in the tut above?

Are you unsure of which color scheme you'll use for the 'nids? I'll assume that's what the two models are for. I prefer the yellow and black/red one. The first is nice, but the second has more contrast, and will have more visual impact on the field (and if the yellow is smoothed out it'll look even betteR).

aaargh! i didnt update last week!
well, i didnt actually do anything last week so...
anyway, a few things that ive been up to:
my nid battleforce has STILL not arrived, after a month!

my first proper death guard marine has been done:



i have finished all my plaguers and here are the two newbies:

also, my campaign is not going to well. the scores were even at one game all until last week, when i failed completely at rearguard, which is the most unfair mission ever!
but tomorrow is a garanteed victory as all i have to do is turbo-boost off the table!
