Small alterations for ogre units in the current army list for friendly games

original thread ↗

I really like the current OK army list, but I've slightly tweaked the ogres army list, only adjusting minor things which I think won't overpower the army, but make it a little more balanced, and make more sense in some cases. Let me know what you think  icon_wink

impact hits regardless of distance

ogres are thick-skinned, getting a 6+ AS

all ogres have armor piercing

big names do not count towards maximum points allowance, only 1 big name per character - butchers and slaughtermasters can't get big names

tyrant: causes terror

hunter: move & fire with harpoon, can move through difficult terrain without penalty, this also applies to the sabretusks.

bruisers: can get kineater, which is increased to 12". BSB gets same wording as other armies' BSB, but can use his standard as great weapon. When you have a tyrant in your army, the BSB upgrade is free.

bulls: now 3 points cheaper

ironguts: 0-1 per bull unit. You get an extra unit if you have a tyrant in your army.

leadbelchers: point cost remains, but get hits instead of shots (how can they miss with a cannon full of sharp stuff?  icon_confused), can get reload gnoblars for +2 pts per model, not requiring reloads. "BOOM engineering" can be bought for an additional 8 points per model, granting misfire rerolls.

yhetees: 5+ daemonic ward save , +5 points

maneaters: now T5 and W4, otherwise remains the same cost. Can have BoH in addition to a close combat weapon.

gorgers: ravenous includes being able to charge on the turn they appear - making it more fluffy: they are very hungry after all.

I think those are all very reasonable, and not uber pwning changes. Well done!

I do not think that gorgers need to be made that much better. They are already pretty useful on their own.

Likewise, I think those Maneaters would be absolutely awesome with their rule changes. They'd practically be a unit of cheap bruisers. I think those changes are just too good.

You also essentially quadruple the leadbelchers' fire output for a mere four points per model. I think that is a bit unnecessary.

I'd take this new version of Kineater in every army I design; that's never a good sign.
Though fluff-wise most of these make sense, there's a good reason that these rules weren't put into effect. No matter how fair the points are made, it's rediculous to have such elite and overpowering units (with one or two exceptions).
You may be right on the points issue... I'll see about adding points or removing rules
