RSS Feed

what exactly is this??? is it how a forum works???

RSS is a way of checking for new topics without actually loading the page.

Normally when a site offers RSS you can simply click on an icon in the adress bar (in firefox) to add the RSS feed to your bookmarks. But dunno what Hragged have done. I cant get it to work thats for sure

Funny stuff tho, it's not more than 2 days ago I thought about suggesting putting the forum on RSS.

Hmm, maybe that link is supposed to work in mail programs like thunderbird etc.  

Is that button in the address bar an extension Metheon?

I'm using Sage here, I just bring up the Sage sidebar and click Discover Feeds and it seems to be working fine...

I dont use any extensions in firefox that "enhances" rss. Which might be why it doesnt work for me :p All I get is a XML sheet but that's pretty much useless..

Yeah the button just usually carries a link like the one I posted above, I just haven't got round to getting a button on the forum yet

These are the CNN RSS feeds for example:
http://www.cnn.com/services/rss/

You usually need to paste the RSS feed link into your RSS reader/aggregator.

Weird, my firefox doesn't have that...

I'm using 1.5.0.1
I'm guessing you run a lower version of firefox as they enhanced the RSS part in 1.5 (IIRC).

I've been behind the tims with my Firefox updates

Yup, much much better Hragged.. Only one thing missing. It says "RSS feed" on all topics so I guess you need to something about that so we can see thread title

You can take the feed from specific sections of the forum, so if you take it from this thread the only feed you'll get is from posts made in this thread.  If you take it from the index, you'll get feed from every post on every forum section.
You can take it from specific forum sections too, for example if you go to the Butcher's Cauldron section and click the button in the address bar you'll only get feed from there.

Working perfect now Hragged. This is perfect. Lately I've been RSS'ing most of my fav bookmarks and seeing this site going RSS too makes you happy, doesnt it

Hragged, been using the RSS for the past two days. One small tiny thing bothers me compared to clicking "view latest posts". When you click the RSS link you're brought to the newest post where "view latest posts" brings you to the latest post you viewed. Possible to do that to the RSS?
