The Army of Varga Daemonslayer (lots of pics, dial-up beware)
Well, I showed pics of my Tyrant a little while back but here he is again in his own Gnoblog!
This is his army so far. I'm taking part in the Tale of Fantasy Painters over on Warseer so am completing approximately 200 points a month. Half way to a 2000 point army painted now.
Here are shots of the individual units.
Here are some pics of the Ironguts I've just finished. Doing 4 of these guys for December's target.
I think that will do for just now. Any questions please ask! I may post my army list soon once I find it again... Oh, and the background!

Butchers go with the Ironguts. Tyrant goes with Maneaters.

I started my Maneater conversions today. They are at a very early stage but here are some pics.
He's an Empire Pistolier style Maneater and will eventually have big puffy sleeves and some additional leg armour.
The other one I started doesn't really have much of interest to show yet.
I made a little progress on the first Butcher.
As a random aside I felt like converting a Gnoblar. Here you go!

They definatley don't come with the ogre sprue. I think they are from various Empire boxes (most likely the pistolier/outrider sprue) but couldn't be sure.

Thanks for the kind words everybody.
The Butcher's bonesaw is made from one of the Bull scimitars cut up and stuck on to a club handle. The gnoblar's rifle is from the Empire Handgunners box, the repeaters are from the Outriders. My next Maneater has a longrifle and pistols...
The strap on the Butcher's apron looks awful so I'm gonna remove it and just have his apron pinned straight to his moobs. Problem solved. He needed random stuff stuck through his skin anyway...
Reg: Nobody actually plays Mordheim. We all just make cool warbands and wish we could find people as enthusiastic about playing as ourselves! I can never find a campaign that lasts longer than the first week. People just stop playing.
My Mordheim project is purely for fun and may eventually be submitted to Specialist Games. It is Ogre related so will appear here but isn't the same as all the other Ogre Warbands people have done. Not very competitive but will have lots of cool models.

Great looking conversions the Gun-toting Gnoblar is just ace. Well done mate the Mordheim stuff sounds very intresting I shall stay tuned.
i should start mordheim.
or not.
SC
Like the man said everybody starts it not many people finish it, the campaign structure is not very forgiveing on loseing warbands and people soon lose intrest when the winning sides get so far ahead so early. Saying that though the game can be used to create one off scenarios and great skimish encounters. Blu Blu.
I Fought the MAW but the MAW Won.
Catferret09 Dec 2007
Thanks for the comments guys.
BluBlu is right about Mordheim. It tends to be dominated by 3 warbands. Dwarves, Undead and Skaven. They have either cheap effective troops, unkillable characters or both. I hate Dwarves. T4 is bad enough but couple that with all their immunity to damage abilities and skills that make them hard to take out in a fight and you lose a battle of attrition. And to top it off they get a bonus Wyrdstone every game! Undead have a Vampire for damage dealing plus cheap throwaway infantry that cause Fear. Skaven are fast so can get into combat fast and use their numbers to swamp you, or they can go the slinger band route where they run up close and lob lots of pebbles at you.
Still, I love the game. I have played Marienburgers, Pirates and Norse over the years. My next project will be an Ogre Hunter warband. I can feasibly see a Hunter heading to Mordheim to try to take down a load of weird mutated pitspawn. While a loner, he is still going to get followed by a load of Gnoblars. I intend to make the hero gnoblars ( ) similar to the gnoblar types in the Gnoblar Army List (desperately trying to track down the article, any help would be appreciated). All the henchmen will be pretty generic gnoblar fighters.
It's definitely going to be a fun rather than competitive band. I just wanted an excuse to convert the Hunter and a load of Gnoblars. Hence the Gnob with handgun. He's a hero.
My Gnoblog
Reg0610 Dec 2007
I love the game immensely. I've played nearly every warband, but the Norse, Pitfighters (the shitty style on for some reason, I just like it) and Beastmen have always been my favorite. I could definitely see a group of young hunters trekking off to Mordheim "together" in search of dangerous things to kill, or several apprentice butchers investigating the possible Maw there.

Catferret09 Jan 2008
Right. About time I updated really...
Army so far looks like this.
December's work included the Ironguts I have already shown you plus these two. They are a little rough because I was busy and had to rush to meet schedule.
Still, I like the blood effect on the hammer and the rotten wood on the 2nd guy's shield.
I have also been working away on Butchers and Maneaters. The bangstick butcher has a new bigger belly but the pics were blurry so I'll take more some time. I got hold of the Pirate Maneater model 2nd hand for free so am now using him instead of converting a 3rd out of plastics. He has his parrot gnoblar replaced with thge powder monkey from the Empire plastics. No real reason other than monkeys are cool... Pics also blurry so you'll have to wait.
Finally, Butcher 2 is progressing slowly. Still no Skullmantle but that will be done after I do the rest. For the moment, here are pics of his new belly.
Played a couple of games recently. Both against High Elves. The first one was 2000pts and I lost mainly due to horrible dice rolls arther than anything else. 2 turns of combat and my Tyrant scored 1 wounding hit... One of my Butchers miscast and stopped either of them casting Trollguts. Oh well... Gnoblar Trappers killed a Lion Chariot with sharp stuff though!
Game 2. 1000pts this time. I wiped them out barring a unit of Shadow Warriors. Take that puny Elves! My lone Maneater clubbed a Great Eagle over the head repeatedly. Bruiser and Ironguts took a charge from Dragon Princes losing one Ogre, then killed 4 knights and ran down the rest. Gnoblar Trappers killed 10 Phoenix Guard and Caradryan with sharpstuff then took a charge from the remaining champion. No casualties either side, gnoblars won by outnumber and ran him down. The same Gnoblars also repeatedly passed panic and psychology checks in both games.
I have now altered my army list and added 2 more Trappers and promoted one to Snarefinger in honour of there achievements. I love Gnoblar Trappers. I am sorely tempted to add a Hunter just so I can have more!

really good models there they look dead evil and really strong i would advice you to battle them against other people.
A quick non-picture update (flatmate took the digicam on holiday).
Both Butchers are finished being converted.
I have slightly converted the Pirate Maneater model and am nearly finished painting him.
I have abandoned the other Maneater conversions. The plastics just weren't working out in my eyes. I am going to convert the Imperial and Arabyan Maneaters instead because they are far bigger and more impressive. The Arabyan will become a Kislevite and the Imperial one will become the Pistolier style I tried before.

Got a new job and it is leaving me with sod all time to work on anything model related. Been rushing stuff unfortunately. Good newsw is that I'm down to the Butchers and Maneater to complete the army so I can take it fairly easily now. Once I hit the 2k points mark I can think about expanding the army a bit. Add in another character or two, coupla Gorgers and some more Ironguts.
Probably a Slaughtermaster, Hunter (I really like the model) or a converted Battle Standard.
