i've finally decided to start a gnoblog here. i didn't intend to start playing ogres, but i liked the models. so a couple of months ago, i decided i'd buy a box of ironguts just for the fun of painting some. the thing is, i liked painting them a lot, and soon 2 batallion boxes, a butcher, a tyrant, 2 gorgers and 2 maneaters followed. i'm in the progress of painting my army; so far, i have 8 out of 9 bulls painted, 3 out of 15 ironguts, with a 4th one in progress, and my bruiser/tyrant. i really didn't like the greyish GW skin tone; i really wanted my ogres to look like oversized humans. that's why i gave them human skin, and non-rusted weapons. they all wear red pants so the cows don't have to scrub out the bloodstains too hard when they return from battle i won't be using anything really converted (i do have a gnoblar sticking out of a LB cannon though), because my converting skills aren't quite that good. the 2 maneaters will almost always be used as butchers - i bought the pirate and the one with the trenchcoat because i really like the models, but i don't think i'll ever field them as maneaters. i can easily explain this to an opponent though; the pirate is a cook from a pirate ship, and the one with the trenchcoat is a stylish butcher who keeps his special ingredients locked away inside treasure chests
here are some pics of one of my bull units. i'll post more and better pics of the rest of my army when i find the time

It's actually his brother. He was the tyrant of the tribe, but after an unfateful encounter with an experimenting empire mage when raiding a trade caravan, he was shrunk down to the size you see now. Grwargh killed the mage, ate his guts like spaghetti (this is where he got his name from), but while he was enjoying his meal, a hidden empire guard was sneaking up on him; the shrunken ogre, still having an ogre's appetite, rushed to the guard and started biting on his ankles, alerting Grwargh of his presence, after which the guard met his demise at the heavy end of a club. He's kept his brother by his side as a good luck charm ever since then.

While waiting for the undercoat on my rhinox riders to dry, I started assembling a leadbelcher with some random parts I still had lying around. Meet Grargh Boomarm. He lost his arm during a fight against the empire while working for chaos dwarves. A cannonball landed right on his lower arm, tearing it off, and leaving his face and body scarred. Fueled by rage, ignoring the excrutiating pain, he stormed the cannon battery, and proceeded to club every last crew member to death. He took the cannon as a trophy, and the chaos dwarves made a proposal - they would attach the cannon to his arm if he would work a little longer for them. Grargh liked this proposal, and the chaos dwarves proceeded to attach his sinews and muscle tissue to the cannon, and revive his arm with dark magic. Although he needs something to take precise aim (like a big skull, or an unfortunate gnoblar), the damage he can do with the cannon is immense - as well from a distance as hitting thinlings in the face with it.

Sorry for sounding harsh but we have a proverb in dutch that goes: "de pot verwijt de ketel dat hij zwart ziet" , meaning as much as "Look at yourself before judging others" (there is an english proverb with words like kettle, black, etc... but I can't seem to find it)

Maybe you've been staring at that label too much? . Maybe some of the ogres' victims were drinking bass as well while the ogre picked them up, and you know ogres - the thinlings were held upside down with their beers clutched in their hand. The ogres liked the symbol which makes thinlings taste even better, so decided to make a tattoo out of it

and here's the unit in all its thinling-stomping glory
I'll take some new army shots very soon

Rhinox unit is big, scary and looking rock solid. Rest of the Redpants are also quite nice, a blubbery army to be proud of

Thanks for the comments. I'm quite proud of my "blubbery" army - but they keep telling me they're just big-boned . I'll be painting my first unit of yhetees soon, just have to correct the undercoat (i.e. paint the parts I missed when spraying), which is something I don't like doing . I just hope I can get our icy brothers to work for me just as well as they do for you Wildcard

Lol the squished gobbo is fun you made this out of greenstuff? Keep the good work going

Well done arisen, I love the sqished gobbo. Those coloured yhettes I like kore than the white. Maybe beacause I'm in to darker colours, but very well done. I all ways like to see your work. Thanks, Malekith

having just eaten a month supply of beastmen and knocking enough skeletons down to make a month supply of bonesoup, the redpants tribe decided to take a journey through the lush plains in search of more food. They stopped long enough on a wooden board to allow me to take pics . Natural light is just so much better for taking pics it seems.

too bad I was too much of a sky giant for them to handle, and I continuously threw 6s ... I picked them all up and... stuffed them all in a carry case.
In case you were wondering, I will be rebasing some of them soon. I'll put new sand on all the ones where it didn't stick very well (they're from when I used a generic glue for basing: now I use woodglue for basing)

Boss_Salvage28 Apr 2008
Great army shots, the natural light makes them look even better Lots of nice stuff going on in the army, and I don't remember seeing the really dark gorgers, they look good as well. And the rhinox unit is definitely large and in charge

That truly is an army to be proud of Out of pure curiosity, what inspired the Gorger alternative colour scheme???

This made me laugh

This really made me laugh Despite the advantage of obvios size differences, surely they woulda got a good Combat Resolution score, based purely upon them outnumbering you, hugely... What with rank bonuses and all

After all, painting 100 night goblins is something you do in the morning just before you are off to work.
And I think you missed a 0 when you wrote 11 armies. The correct nr should be 110 armies I would think, based on your painting speed.
arisen28 Apr 2008
I didn't like the really pale gorger paint scheme GW gave them. I also didn't want them to look just like skinny ogres with the same skin color. After some thought I decided to paint them very dark because they spend most their time underground, and their skin turns ever darker to blend in better with the surroundings in the cave.

Awesome That's a great idea I am of a similar school of thought to yourself, as I too, hate the pale complexion gorgers of GW haha!!!

Threadomancy ahoy . Some here may remember me, but most won't . It's been a long time since I've done anything relevant to my OK army; I already made banners and a BSB when 8th came out, but haven't gotten round to painting them yet. but now that we're effectively an 8th edition army with all the goodies that has brought, I've decided they need to be "upgraded" and expanded. Now that I've revived this topic, I'll feel a lot more compelled to complete them.
Here's an updated IF bull just to get the ball rolling again
Having finally updated my entire existing army like this a few days ago, it's time to paint all the other stuff that needs a coat of paint; a shortlist;
-slightly converted BSB bruiser -slightly converted Golgfag (no banner, cape closed up with GS, "fancy blades" - my tyrant's not a fencer, he's got "fancy blades" , making him WS 10 ) -slightly converted GW-wielding hunter on stonehorn with a rhinox head as part of his pelt -2 firebellies -butcher -Gutsman -5 standard bearers (3 for IGs, 2 for bulls) -1 IG bellower -4 IGs -8 bulls -4 LBs -1 sabretusk (to complete the feline trinity) -8 mournfangs (2x4) -2 ironblasters -thundertusk -another giant

The wood is pretty plain, and the gutplate could use a bit of dirtying, but it looks good. I really like the way the base turned out.
